i have done research and i basically nail down the problem. i did search around and found options to resolve this.
one of it is using RUU options, i tried several times, but due to slow booting, the operation fail.
i try to use OTA, to update to 2.50.707.4, however, when it reboot, it stuck in the HTC black screen instead of white.
My problem problem is same as the one is found:
" powering up takes about 30 minutes - 20 minutes just black screen(so I thought phone completely broken), then HTC logo with approx 10 mins vibro, approx 5 mins silent, boot to android and then - working fast as usual. USB connection not recognizes, reboot to bootloader takes eternity and locks up in menu(maybe its just makes a move onse an hour, I dont tested so long)
Any advises?"
my problem came when i did the "one click eng s-off" as i wanna flash a new radio. after i have done the "one click eng s-ff", my device reboot and i am having the above super slow boot. i assume the hboot screw up or conflict with what i have done.
please please advice...
edit: however, i am able to go into bootloader and recovery using adb command (which take ages). my recovery is 4ext or something like that. i have a backup of my previous downgrade version before i flash the smartdroid. what should i do?
my backup after downgrade version is 2.37.707.3. what else i need to do?
edit: SOLVED
i revert back my hboot and everything done, very risky to have eng s-off.
from what i read, you probably have a device shipped with 3.x, and downgrading hboot causes that super slow booting. its a known problem...
actually, the problem is not caused by downgrading. this is what is did : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403 "one click ENG S-OFF"
i just revert back hboot settings using the terminal and code provided from the thread, and problem gone. yet, i don't know what's go wrong. i think this problem is very rare as it is NOT due to downgrading process, as before i do the ENG S-OFF thing, i already downgrade the device and even flash smartdroid ROM in it with no issues.
actually i am helping my friend to root his phone. well, i own a samsung galaxy s2. i don't have to go through all the pain to root.
The issue happened when you flash the older Eng bootloader on a device that came with gingerbread.
Since the Eng bootloader is older(from froyo) it is as above hosted. Downgrading your bootloader. Its not as rare as might think. A lot of people have been in this spot

there might be a lot, but trying to search for this solution is as rare as i can describe. or should i say, i couldn't even search for it? i have to click one by one to search for it.
can you enlighten me with a link or steps to get eng s-off? coz all the search topic i found is actually quite technical, as i am sgs2 users, it is actually very hard to understand the term used in htc.
i might as well quit helping my friends with more rooting/hacking on htc as it is too risky and almost different from sgs2, and i don't wanna pay for any damages.

Their is no need to have Eng soff. It only causes issues for newer devices. Regualr soff is more than enough to flash a custom recovery, custom roms, radios, bootsplashes.
For example with engineering bootloader many people will use.the fastboot command to flash a radio(you guys might use modem). With soff to flash a radio it needs to be packed in a flashable BOOTLOADER zip file. We call them PD98IMG.zip. that's essentially the difference. Eng one can use a PC and fastboot to flash radios, while regular soff we pack it in a zip and flash in bootloader

so confusing >.<" anyway, my fren came back to me, he sent his phone for warranty. seems like the bootloader is giving him trouble again (back to very long boot up thing). i don't think i wanna touch HTC device ever.
Hi guys,
Hoping someone can help, have bricked my Australian Optus stock One X. I have tried to follow all threads related to loading stock or custom roms from fastboot and am unable to. I still have CWM recovery 5.8.2.7 touch installed.
I had previously rooted it and installed Android Revolution HD 5.1.0 and seemed to be fine but was unstable and would crash and reboot in certain apps. In trying to revert back to stock I stupidly formatted the SD card, DUMB ASS!
I have downloaded stock rom 1.29.401.7-DUO, all-in-one rootkit, and the ARHD ROM and have tried to either:
1) flash ARHD with bootloader still unlocked, doesn't work
2) follow reflashing stock process ie flash stock recovery, relock bootloader, then flash stock ROM, and am getting stuck on just reflashing the stock recovery. When I try to open stock recovery it takes me to a black screen with a red ! in a triangle, this is with the bootloader relocked.
If anyone is able to help an enthusiast noob like me I'd be very appreciative and would also be more than willing to donate for the trouble.
MAKE SURE you have exactly the right RUU for your phone, whatever the rom was on you were using, ie, 1.26, 1.28, 1.29, you need the same version of RUU, i discovered the problem trying to flash RUUs and after 2 days finally got the correct one, thats when i realised, unlike on other phones, you cant downgrade the One X and when recovering it seems to prefer the one that matches what you were using.
Also make sure youre cid is supported in that RUU, ie, HTC 001, TMOB 054, etc etc, mine can only accept 401 roms, so they must match exactly, until we can get S-Off this problem will remain, dont worry about recovery, so the guide on in case of disaster, you cant go wrong with it, relock your bootloader and get your RUU installed, from their update it to your latest ics version and then if you must reflash your cwm and root it.
Thanks for the info, graemeg. After downloading an RUU that was .exe file, I felt I was getting closer, as it was an AU Optus RUU. But it turns out that my current version is 1.28.980.10 and the RUU version was 1.26.980.3 and so yes I met with the non-downgrading issue.
It seems that there is not currently a stock 1.28.980.10 RUU at the moment, so might be using this as an ornament for much longer than I would have hoped/thought. Bummer.

You can get 1.28.980.10 from htcdev downloads. I would link but I'm a new user, just filter by One X, Optus, and it's there.
Thanks again for the help. I have seen those files on htcdev website, but don't know how to use them
I don't know how to load a RUU that is not a .exe file...if anyone is able to assist, again, I would really appreciate it and will donate once up and running again.
Edit: I just wanted to add that I have tried to follow the thread that explains how to load/flash recovery and boot images via fastboot in command prompt, and have not been able to. So I don't think I'm a complete dumb ass, but do need someone with the knowledge and patience to guide me through it. Please!
First thing first, do you have the right RUU with you ?
If not, maybe this is the one for you : http://hoxroms.serveftp.com/RUU_END...Radio_1.1204.103.14_release_258004_signed.exe
second: do you have fastboot directory set up on your pc ? and htc usb driver too ?
Just starting the download now, I think that could be the RUU I've been looking for. Yes I have the drivers and fastboot directory. Will give this RUU a go and let you know, thanks for the quick reply, ckpv5!
Most important before you run the RUU, you need to:
1) have a stock recovery flashed to you your device first (I believe you already have one)
2) relock the bootloader - fastboot oem lock
3) run RUU, it should work.
THANK YOU!
ckpv5, thank you for the link to the updated RUU. Phone is functioning again, stock. Donation coming your way. Thanks for all your help. agentorange82.
Hi guys...
I am losing it here....pulling my hair out...
I have rooted and flashed roms on a Gnex and a HTC Incredible S and I have never encountered so many dam problems doing so...
The DHD is a pain in the rear. I have GB 2.3.5 and I tell you what...GRRRR haha
I gave in and went with the HTCDEV (Official Method) and I'd like someone to tell me what the F*&K that actually does....I thought it unlocked your bootloader....nope...
Theres a big UNLOCKED in the HBOOT but it means jack... I can flash recovery, then I try and flash CM7 for example and the thing wont boot...WTF??? So do i still need to go S-OFF anyway?? IF so, HTC WTF??? Whats the point in this stupid "unlocking" crap....so annoying... If anyone could help me understand this I would be much. much appreciative...
Thanks in advance...
you have to get ENG S-OFF before you can flash custom ROMs. Relock your bootloader and use AAHK (search it on Google, attn1 removed it from xda) to get super cid (SIM Unlock), root, CWM & ENG S-OFF

You don't need eng S-OFF to flash ROMs, S-OFF is OK. you need to flash the boot.IMG for the ROM separately when flashing ROMs on a HTC dev unlocked device. That's why I doesn't boot after flashing a new ROM. Relock it and use the advanced ace hack kit.

Thanks guys....
*sigh*.... I've been on this now for like 30hrs straight... I actually have root an everything and it still wont s-off.... I'm trying to downgrade now and that wont work either....goldcard and everything... I've looked for the Hack Kit too... I must be looking in the wrong places... I cant find it or I'm just too annoyed to see straight...haha
Just want to say i really appreciate your answers guys...
Sorry, I wouldnt normally ask but I'm just spaced...can anyone point me in the direction of the kit...probably not as its a little sensitive I know...just putting it out there...
Thanks again guys... I feel sort of lost now...like wtf ya know... haha
Cheers.
EDIT:
I did find something and it looks pretty bad...haha (Slow your bootloader??? jam you up?? I dont like the sound of that...haha)
Do NOT attempt to install earlier ENG HBOOTs on these models. AAHK now has Hboots that safely support fastboot image flashing.
Doing this WILL severely degrade bootloader performance on Inspires and DHDs and causes issues trying to install RUUs. In other words, it WILL jam you up. (Note: Issue confirmed on later DHDs – ignore at your own risk).
Sense 3, including those with RELOCKED HTC BOOTLOADERS (NOTE: NOT UNLOCKED – MUST BE LOCKED OR RELOCKED) is auto-detected in hack step. Option is given to download a GB RUU and downgrade or abort. This WILL wipe data.
6 days ago I decided to unlock my phone with HTC dev and I tell you what, that is useless! Fortunately I found a guide that save my life! Firts relock the phone then you have to downgrade with AAHK and finally always with AAHK you can unlock the phone and root it. That's what I've done, that was my first time so I apologize with you if I wrote something that you already know! Sorry for bad English!

QUestion. How do you relock your phone after HTCDev unlock? I love to know because I too ave spent too many hours working on this dam phone...
Anyway a work around for this is to find the rom.img of the rom you want to put on your phone and put it in your pc file where you have fastboot. Then flash the new ROM onto your phone normally. Then go into bootloader, fast boot and make sure you have fastboot usb set up. Then you neeed to open the cmd window and navigate to the folder with fastboot in it anf type in fastboot flash boot boot.img . Once this is done reboot the phone and your new custom rom will work fine.
However if someone can tell me hoe to rook and then use aahk I would prefer o use that and go o s-off....
HTCdev has instructions on relocking the boot loader. Basically the same step where you types 'fastboot oem bootloader unlock' or something like that, replace unlock with lock and it will lock it. If you want to use AAHK to get S-off, I suggest you run an RUU and get your phone to complete factory state before doing it. I don't know if it'll work by relocking an unlocked bootloader, so RUU seems to be the safest method (recommended by AAHK).

Hello all!
I may be new to XDA, but i lurk a lot... And over the years this is the first time i've ever needed to post.
Right.. So today i bought an "HTC Desire HD" or 'Ace'
It was on Froyo (2.1?) S-ON and hboot 0.85 or something
I tried using AAHK - Which is fine, I've used it before successfully on my other DHD.
This time it was upgrading/downgrading a radio, error'd and quit.
It then restarted and bootloooped.
I tried Factory Restore did nothing
I then tried using many and various RUU's but i always get Error 131 or Error 190
I tried making a GoldCard to boot the phone still nothing
I also tried the PD98IMG.zip in the SD card (Tried with GoldCard too) Still Error 131
GoldCard does work as have tested it on another phone.
Currently sat staring at HBOOT wondering what the hell i can do to get it too switch back on!
The phone is locked to Orange UK with S-ON
The file that i believe to fix my phone is called "RUU-Ace-Orange-UK.18" something, but it just doesn't exist. I've searched all of google and only found dead links.
Just a little motivation, I'll donate to whom ever provides the fix for my phone my old Xperia Mini e10i! Thanks
AAHK is retired, and the server hosting the files it needs has been pulled. Without S-Off you can't flash radios. Are you just trying to root? If so, you can unlock your bootloader, flash a recovery, and flash a rooted ROM from there. You can't flash radios, but you can flash custom ROMs. The link in my signature has more detailed guides.
EDIT: but you will first need to update your hboot.

Please link me to hboot update, I've looked around but all links give me "downloadmanagerS.exe" :/
EDIT: I found the file for RUU Ace Orange UK (My phone is on Orange), but it's not finding my phone. And when i took the ROM out of it, and put onto simcard it's giving me an Incorrect Model ID
I believe that because your hboot is too old, you need to create a gold card to flash a RUU that supports hboot unlock. How to do that is beyond the scope of my knowledge, and due to the fact that the guy who used to handle all this stuff (glevitan) is no longer active here, you may just need to hope someone else shows up. You could try to look through his posts for that info.

So my phone is dead then D;
Basically you need to create a Goldcard and upgrade your bootloader.
I also have a Orange DHD and i am S-Off'd using another methord but the difference is that i have sense 3.0.
But due to your phones CID being ORANG001 you'll need the goldcard as there is no orange RUU firmware only HTC generic firmware.
Shot a PM if you still need help.
Ok, so I have recently switched to a HTC One M8 and I am puzzled by a few things regarding unlocking the bootloader and flashing ROMs. Coming from a Samsung Galaxy s4 I have never really needed to worry about unlocking my bootloader. I have looked up on the subject and have found that with unlocking the bootloader using HTCdev you have to flash boot.img everytime after flasing a ROM on the HTC One. Does this also apply to the HTC One m8 ? If so does anybody have a better means of unlocking the bootloader without needing to do this after every ROM flash.

You don't have to replace hboot unless you want to get rid of certain firmware messages, like the tampered flag. Unless you are sending your phone in for warranty work, you won't likely care about it, since you only see it in fastboot/hboot mode. The only thing the token does, besides unlock the boot loader, is remove certain preloaded apps, like the flashlight, which will screw up further OTA updates.
However, I would suggest you look into going S-off, as it makes locking/unlocking the boot loader possible without contacting HTC at all, and without messing up OTA updates. You also gain the freedom to change your CID (if you ever want to convert to stock Developer Edition), SIM unlock, and revert to older firmware if necessary (such as restoring an older RUU to go back to stock) However, S-off is "security off", so there is an increased chance of bricking the phone if you aren't careful.
Ok so what i understand is: To install a custom rom I first have to get s-off, then unlock bootloader, root and install custom recovery and I am good to go? Please help me if I have missed anything.
I am used to flashing a rom every week on my Samsung. This is why I am so worried that I might do something wrong.
Edit: I have also found this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618 please tell me if it is the correct way to do it.

I would suggest you use this guide.
Im going to use it this friday to root my phone.
Ok so if I understand correctly now...using that guide I will not need to use htcdev and it will not be neccesary for me to flash boot.img after every rom flash?

Not quite. To flash a custom ROM, all you need to do is unlock the bootloader, install custom recovery, and flash a ROM. In addition, I highly recommend you make a nandroid backup before flashing anything
S-off is only needed if you want to avoid the bootloader unlocking method via HTCDev.com (and HTC therefore having a record of you unlocking by IMEI); or to flash hboot, radio, firmware, or a few other things (such as SIM unlock). S-off is not needed to flash a ROM.
One caveat, if your phone presently has older firmware, you will experience some severe bugs on any Sense 2.x based ROM (long boot times, broken WiFi or Bluetooth) and having S-off is required to manually update the firmware. So, while in literal terms, S-off is not needed to flash a ROM. But if the above applies to you, you need s-off to manually update the firmware and get the ROM to work correctly. Alternately, you can OTA to the latest firmware before modding the phone. You will need to list your phone's hboot and present software version for us to tell you what firmware you are on.
Also, its not necessary to root before flashing a custom ROM. You will be rooted after you flash a custom ROM.

Definitely not correct. That guide is for the M7. Be careful what device forum section you are in, and stay in the M8 section.
Hell, I feel like a noob again. Ok so no boot.img flash after flashing a rom is needed.

Nope, not needed. Boot.img will flash automatically along with the ROM. Don't assume that anything on the M7 applies to the M8. These things change as the hardware changes, and every device has its own subtle differences.

Correct, no need to flash boot.img separately when flashing ROMs, if you unlock the bootloader via HTCDev.com (or by the S-off way).
