Try formatting it to FAT and using this program https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount&hl=en
I know that app is for the Nexus series, but I've used it with good results before so it's worth a shot.
EDIT: I meant FAT32

You basically have to start to delete stuff you don't need. Go to system settings and storage and start from there. You can actually move apps to the sd card. There's a hack in the development section posted by zedomax. I haven't tried it but you can check it out. Make sure you carefully read the instructions.

I've used the default filer app and Total Commander successfully.

Check what file system you are using. If it is NTFS - then an app might be needed to remount ext_storage as writeable, not sure, but check google play.
Might be the filesystem of the USB stick. I had 32gb stick in NTFS format, and it worked read only. After formatting to fat32 I could write to it.

Yeah The linux kernel only has support for ReadOnly NTFS by default, If you want to keep the filesystem as NTFS you need to use NTFS-3G which has Read/Write support, Although I've never fully trusted Linux's NTFS functionality it just feels a little flakey to me, the best thing to do is uninstall windows reformat all your NTFS Drives as ext4 and use Linux LOL. Then you wouldn't have this problem. Failing that there's a guide knocking around XDA about NTFS-3G it'll be buried deep in a forum somewhere.

I've used also ext2 successfully on ICS ROM. This allowed me to write files larger than 4GB on to my SDXC card.
So I did a fresh install of a tw rom and its saying I have used 5.4 gb Ive factory rest like 3 times already ... whats the deal thanks.

Your system and recovery partitions use a portion of the 16gb that the phone has. Kind of like if you do a fresh install of Windows on you PC, the system files take up part of the hard drive. There's no real way around that.

Are you saying the device shows total available internal memory to be ~9GB? If that is the case, that's the way it is with the way it's partitioned. If you mean there's 5.4GB missing out of the ~9GB it's supposed to have, then there's a problem.
your backup is in the external, can't see it unless you're in recovery. I figured out the hard way.

If you are using CWM and have made a backup (or two) check /data/media/clockwork. It's the root of the phone, not of the internal memory partition or SD card.

Hey guys, just received the OTG cable I bought for me nexus but it doesn't seem to recognise it, I'm rooted Nd has stick mount pro installed but the tablet isn't responding when I connect it to my n7. My s4 i9500 is also rooted with stick mount pro but it works great, the phone recognises it no problem, so is the pin connector different on the n7 and s4 or is it hardware issues on my n7?

That's simular to what I used to format mine. I never had the 32gb issue so it could be a windows format thing. I used cmd to format mine to fat32 using a script I found. I have it on my laptop at home but I'm not sure if the instructions were in the zip. I'll post it later when I get home from work.

What 64GB cards are everyone using? I just picked up a Sandisk Ultra 64GB Class 10 UHS-1 card and it won't work with my e980. Just curious if anyone else has used this or a similar card. Could it be my phone? I even used LG Flashtools to return to stock with no luck...
Using the same exact card. You need to plug it into your computer and format it to fat32. Natively, windows doesn't support fat32 on anything above 32gb but there are programs out there that do it.
This works perfectly.
