facebook messenger - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Has anyone got the messenger app to take the place of the stock SMS app? I don't have the options on note 2, but the s3 can do it?

I'm not sure why you don't have the option to make it your default SMS app; I have the Note II and I have the option to make it default in the settings menu inside the Facebook Messenger app.

Are you rooted or not rooted?

The option is there in the settings under sms/mms. Check both boxes.

And as a rule of thumb, shut notifications off on messaging app...?

That option doesn't exist on my app. Maybe because I have a custom ROM? It is a TW based rom

This option doesn't exist for me either. I am using a Rooted Droid DNA with a custom Rom.
Any ideas?

Install Stock ICS Messaging app? (mms.apk?)

So I tried looking for a solution and so far havent found anything
I like stock touchwiz (so far) mostly because of the Motion options Samsung introduced (AOKP and CM9 have yet to implement these)
I really liked the stock messaging app from ICS (coming from a Galaxy Nexus) and was wondering if there is a way of getting it on the S3
I tried pushing the stock "mms.apk" to the /system/app folder but it keep saying there is a conflict and cannot install (installing the stock gallery.apk worked though)
The S3 messaging app is called "Secmms.apk" , but even if i rename that and try installing the stock mms.apk it just said the install failed
Does anyone have any clue on how to install the stock ICS messaging app?
Thanks in advance!

Your welcome!
BTW, if you want the calendar (ICS version) let me know. It works too!!!
Thanks for posting that. Worked perfectly over here.
Any chance of getting the stock contacts app or will that take more effort than it's worth?
Now that the issue is solved, can someone upload the vanilla apk for the gallery please
And yeah, calendar would be nice too.

hey rumz82
can you share ICS calendar?
can someone post the ics msg app screenshot...? i want to try it too...
Contacts is part of the dialler so you'll get into a mess if you try to change that, I did. I also changed the keyboard by putting in the latinIME.apk and then switching to it as the default input method. I find the stock keyboard quite unreliable.
If you use the CM gallery, as already posted, you can set the background screen image to be scrollable at the right resolution.

thanks for tweeting suroot!
I'm referring to the big circle with the sms icon that appears on the right center of the lockscreen that we used to get then a new sms arrives - then we drag it from the left to the right to open the sms application, that way we don't have to sacrifice one of the 4 shortcut slots for sms app
that's the one I was referring to, and it's gone now!

Thanks for that but I am having trouble replacing the Email (Exchange) app from my stock rooted S3.
Do you have to have a deoxed ROM to replace the Email app for the stock one?
I cannot replace email.apk as there is simply none in the ROM, only an Exchange.apk

Better-than-stock Dialer?

Hi all,
I'm looking for a dialer apo to replace the stock dialer, since the Samsung stock one doesn't even have a proper T9 dialing option.
I have tried ExDialer, and it's really good but it doesn't show Facebook profile pics in the dialer.
Does anyone know of any better dialer apps that are fast and functional?
Thanks.

Few things that come to mind:
- Dialer One
- RocketDial
- Go Contacts
- Touchpal Contacts
Let us know how you get on.
Dev Team
im currently using dev team stuff such as:
go sms
go contacts
go keyboard
go dialer
im pretty much using the same thing as you but if you install AOKP rom, it should fix your problem with the face book contacts thing as its part of the features for the rom
let me know how you go
Ex Dialer is awesome now
Dialer ONE it's my favorite
Dialer one for sure.....

Thanks guys for the replies, but I tried each one of them and NONE can pull FB pics into the dialer!
They're there in the contacts and even in the stock dialer but they simply don't show up in any of these custom apps! Other pics like google pics etc show up though....
Does it work for you? Am I doing something wrong here?
Am using hax sync. It works fine and fb pics show up on exdialer.

Ok.
How does hax sync integrate with the stock contacts? Is there another tab for it like Facebook and whatsapp or does it just sync the photos within the fb account?

Its just like another fb or whatsapp account. It also syncs high res images which is nice and in the options you can choose to have htc style notes on your google account contacts so that when you do a full wipe and re sync it remembers the linked contacts.

ex dialer
I have used almost all the available dialers and to date found the Ex dialer to be the most user friedly one with good themes as well. Its a matter of personal preference too. For someone like me the main thing is not to have to stretch my thumb to the top of the screen to press buttons specially in S3 which is bigger. All the relevent common buttons are in the lower field. Even the search button of the contacts in ex. Go dialer is also very good but for me cannot beat the Ex dialer.
If helpful ...press thanks
I believe u should go for....

These are the best options....

Thanks for the explanation. Since it's a paid app, I just wanted to confirm.
So this app syncs phone numbers and other details too? After installing this can I completely disable the normal Facebook sync app?

I don't think it syncs contact numbers. Only pictures. For me, thats what was important as I have telephone numbers on my Google contact list for most of my fb contacts. And it syncs status updates as well. So if you click on a contacts update in hax sync it takes you directly to the contacts page on the facebook app in your phone. I have disabled contact sync on my fb phone app.

[Q] Sprint note 2 quick reply

Have a rooted Sprint note 2 but am looking for a working aosp mms.apk that will work on a TW based rom and have the quick reply feature in the notifications pull down. Specifically the one they have in the CM10 type ROMS. Searched up and down through google and forums with no luck. Can anyone help? Thanks
Since your asking a question, dont you think a better place for it would be Q & A? AOKP has quick reply with 160 split for sms. Pull it out of the rom and replace it in you system/app rw-r-r

I tried that before with a few but when I do everything works except the "call / reply" options arent there when you pull the notification bar down. Some of them only had the call option.
Quick reply won't work. It's not built into our system. If you want the next best thing get SMS popup and AOSP messaging and there ya go. Close enough
