Good ROM for a Galaxy S3 newbie? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I just came to the Sprint galaxy s3 after using HTC devices for the last decade, and the EVO series for the last two phones. I'm looking for a nice smooth ROM with a stockish feeling and a performance boost. I don't mind Touchwiz as I still learning the in's and out's of a Samsung phone. I have already rooted using the toolkit.
So can anyone give me any suggestions?

There's very many TW based ROMs in the dev section, make a nandroid and start flashing . Personally I am stock MC3 (4.1.2 Premium Suite) with an over clocked kernel and am loving it! I have not found a 100% stock (but modified) TW ROM yet, most that I find have apps missing, slightly themed, different launcher etc etc. But flash some and have fun. Figuring out what you like is the joy of flashing.

Cool. I'm used to flashing various things on my HTC devices but this is the first phone that I've had that us spread out among a lot of carriers, so I know that bad things can happen if I flash a rom from the wrong carrier.
Thanks!

Just TRY to stay in the Sprint forums and make sure its always L710 or D2spr. Follow that and you'll be fine. Lol

I have been through 5 or 6 ROM's on my S3 and none have been as stable as The Peoples Rom with the Ktoonsez kernal. Tweeked with Battery life in mind it is amazing. I first ran CM based ROMS and then FreeGS3 for a while but they always seemed to slow down and start developing issues after a few weeks. The Peoples ROM has not given me a single issue since install. LOVE IT!

MOAR or TPR.
/thread

I have played with several of the ROMs and they are all good ones. My #2 is Goodness Reborn. But without a doubt Wicked Sensations is my daily driver, it is good all the way around.

Then you haven't tried TPR yet... Kenny makes sure that his roms come with all the bloat from Sprint and Samsung since we can remove whatever we want with a root explorers or titanium backup
SPRINT GS3 FAQ

Try cleanbean or whiplashh (version 1.0) rom. Both are pretty much stock with performance in there. TPR is also awesome along with MOAR and darthstalker. I personally love cm10. (not 10.1)

Just finished flashing The Peoples Rom, looks pretty sweet so far!
He has the option to use TW launcher, Nova, Apex, or AOSP 4.2.

Try moar ROM also pretty sweet

He had a choice between 3 different tw launchers (including the completely stock gs3 one) along with other launchers you can choose during the aroma install

In fact you can install all and try them all out as well. Your not limited to one during the Aroma installer.

I just came from htc also.. Had every evo that came out. Im loving all the dope roms we have over here.. I was getting bored with my evo LTE development is dead for that phone then I get my gs3 and **its poppin over here!! :good::victory: My fav roms so far are stock rooted from freeza.. The Peoples Rom is sweet im on that one now. Senergy.. Goodness reborn.. MOAR rom

Yeah, I was getting fed up with my EVO, I loved them but things are slowing down over there and stuff was messing up a ton on the EVO. I'm happy with the GS3, and The Peoples Rom seems to be pretty awesome so far, 24 hours in.

blazer from phantomhacker is a good rom to start out with. it got me some incredible battery life and doesnt require much tweaking. One thing youll love about this device over the htcs is that if you REALLY bork things up, you can easily flash the stock rooted tar in odin to get it back to where you were before you started tinkering. Its like running the RUU on htc devices, but leaves it rooted so you dont hafta start all over with the root process. oh, and the root method is stupid easy on galaxy devices!!!

Try M.O.A.R or The peoples ROM
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app

I've used TPR, MOAR, and others...but I always find myself going back to CLEANBEAN w KT kernel. For me it's been stable with the best battery life. As a matter fact the ones I've used are all stable...but cleanbean seems to get me the best battery.

Simple to Root yes, Most roms are 4.1 based i believe.. Try The People's Rom.. Great overall performer with a few tweaks.

Easy to root yes I had this phone less then 4 hours and it was rooted. The only thing that took so long is I went out to dinner after buying it. Rooted both mine and the wife's and tested TPR (The Peoples Rom) and CM10 both are very ROCK solid. Not sure which one I am going to stick with but leaning on TPR.
To my knowledge the only ROM's currently out are 4.0.1 and 4.1.1 based. I don't believe any 4.2 ROM's are out, but you can check through the forums. Though, I'm pretty certain there isn't.

Jellybam

Alright guys I've been using the Jellybam rom on my tmobile sensation n I'm convinced is the best JB rom I've tried. My question is this, how can we go about getting this ROM ported or developed 2 our tmobile T889 note2? Developer is iGio90 on xda forums.
I'm not rooted yet, but in due time. Once I am rooted I would love 2 run that rom on this phone.
Yes it's already on different versions of this phone n the S2.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
Well first step is to ask the dev if you can use his work then if you cant do it yourself ask one of our devs if they would do it. And make sure that the proper people get the credit.
Tbh, I don't think it's needed. You will break more functionality on the note than anything. If you simply like how your old rom looks, load the deodexed /rooted stock rom from the dev section and then find your favorite theme and load it up.

Forgot how smooth stock is.

So I have flashed many roms on my nexus. The last being xylon. That and purity ak kernel did great for a long time. After awhile with every ROM though it began getting laggy and started having FCS . I decided that I was going to restore my backup. While I was debating what ROM to flash next I couldn't help but notice how stable and snappy my stock backup was. If you can do without customization the stock ROM really is nice. No disrespect to the developers.

I'm done with custom ROM as well. I've been running stock for over two months and I love how well the device performs overall. No less of data, no crashes, no headaches. I haven't been visiting this website like I used to because I do not need to troubleshoot my phone constantly. Flashing ROM can be an addiction.

I can second that. Flashing is very addictive, I update all major custom roms whenever new build is released but eventually I restore my stock backup. The only feature from custom roms I really miss is t9 dialer. I don't like third party dialers from market. I tried to fix it by myself, never successful though. I like the smoothness of our stock which is unfortunately little affected by deodexing in our beloved custom roms. That's the price of customization / theming.
Yeah, since JB the stock image was always smoother. Plus it's flash and forget, in the custom ROM's you're always wondering what's new.

I agree with having root for blocking adds. Adaway ftw!
I myself am getting sick of flashing roms...something always happens when ya either update the rom or custom kernel.. Love the snappy feel of stock everything is so smooth.
But i have to say stock + root + nova launcher with all animations off for faster the light speed = Beastly. Only reason i cant go back to stock is because my my volume down key doesnt work after breaking when replacing the usb port.
So i cant take screenshots and ive tried all different types of screenshot apps and they all suck. So im loving aokp's option of adding the screenshot button to my navbar it really beats the option having it in the power option because ya can take screenshots of ya toggles if need be etc.
Anyway yeah as soon as i get my hands on the n4 thats when ill be running stock + root + launcher i think.

If you purchased a GNex, and are an XDA member, I guess I can't see the reason why you'd keep the phone stock. Lag, the occasional FC, etc. will still occur even on stock; normal maintenance and a few tweaks minimize these regardless of custom or stock.
Admittedly, there's a good case to be made for slowing down the # of flashes during a day/week/month. Typically, there are two types of flashers: those who flash for aesthetics/customization, and those who flash for noticeable gains in performance, batt. life, features. Fortunately, there are developers on XDA who cater to both groups....some even pleasing both groups @ the same time. More often than not, however, there is a lull between Android releases, which produces more ROMS geared towards customization. This contributes to the "bored" factor, and ultimately, threads such as these.
With no disrespect to the OP, if you're content with stock, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, and stock+root on the GNex is more than capable of providing a good Android experience. But, holding this phone, and subscribing to these forums leads one to the assumption that you're @ the very least CURIOUS about opening up the possibilities of this phone's capabilities.

Best CM rom?

Okay so I see a few CM roms Ive flashed them before but never really kept them. Getting bored of samsung I guess and hoping this will let me want to keep the Note 2, I love EVERYTHING about it except the software. So Which one is the most reliabile and stock that runs quick or as good as a stock touchwiz rom?
Try them and find what you like best. What I like may be different than what someone else likes. I don't like paranoid on this phone, others love it. Its what YOU want.

Whats the reason that you dont like it?
I`m just looking for speed, battery and reliability , I was between that and pac-man`s but I dont want much extras
I don't like it cus it's made for a nexus so it has the on screen menu button in places, it's just not my thing. I like root box, and right now I'm on jedi cm. The batter is really good. I got about 5 hours screen on time today and that's with ingress running for over an hour. That uses lots of battery and gps is on the whole time playing.
Sent from my SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Which one is more nexus like? Not meaning the buttons. But more stock android without all the addons people like in cm. Just like pure cm but stable
Sent from my SGH-I317 using xda premium
Go to the original development section and look at the jedi cm rom. It's what your looking for. It's pretty much stock cm with a few nice tweaks. Not as much customization as say liquid or carbon or the others. Pac man and root box and paranoid all have lots of extras I never use.

Sent from my SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
OP, the most reliable stock that runs quick or as good as stock....is Stock, nothing wrong with Stock. But as other pointed out, you will just have test and run, as it seems you have....bottom-line it is all on you, with to many different variables involved from user to user....you have to just test the waters of Stockish ROMs for yourself.
Thanks

If you like all the new features and options of the Galaxy S4 which are advertised you will
really dislike any of the AOKP/AOSP/CM/MIUI roms.
All the Samsung and Touchwiz features and options are totally missing from those roms.
Those roms are as bare bone as possible. They don't even have wifi calling.
Even the excellent camera/camcorder is replaced with a very degraded camera app which
not only has most of the features and options missing, but the user interface looks like
somekind of home made app which does not even resemble the samsung camera.
But I know you will give the CM10 a try for sure, I did it way too many times in the past many
years and now I cannot think of even one good reason why anyone except for the developers
or people who really like to do a lot of experimentation with their phones flashing or using it.
Leaving a stock theme on your rom is perfect! Then people can theme their own phone because not everyone likes one theme!
About mods, just speed and battery life! Those two are important in my opinion!
