[Q] upgrading in Cyano 10.1 - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Hi to all,
does upgrading between successive alpha releases (e.g. alpha 1 -> alpha 2) in Cyanogenmod 10.1 require a full data/cache wipe or it is sufficient to upgrade rom/gapps only? Thank in advaence for answers.

i think unless stated by arco it is alright to just flash the latest update but for best result (and to avoid possible problem) going pristine is the best method

I also think pristine way is the safest method. Obviously you lose sometime to get all you need and configure the way you like but like that you have sure that everything works the way it was suppose to

[Q] from android revolution 3.0 to 3.1

Hello everyone, first I would like to thank everyone on the forum for the awesome job. Especially those of you who took the time to make great guides for nb like me.
I updated my dhd to android revolution 3.0 and I was wondering. If I want to update to 3.1. Can I flash the rom again directly with a full wipe or do I have to downgrade first ? (because now my build is 1.84.61.2)
thank
You can flash it directly, you have root and S-OFF, you won't need to do that again.
By the way, if you have used ARHD 3.0 without any issues, you can flash 3.1 (or 3.2 which is out now) without a full wipe (although they say it's recommended). This way all your settings will remain.
You should check the ARHD thread to see that you have the recommended radio for 3.2 (it's working really well for me, I'm getting HSDPA on my commute to work instead of switching between EDGE and 3G like before).
Edit: Remember to always do a nandroid backup before flashing, so you always have something stable to revert to in the case of a bootloop or other malfunction.
thank yazayad I will do that

Flashing CM7 Nightlies

I'm currently running CM7 7.1.0 Beta 1, and was looking to update to the newest nightly. I just downloaded it, and want to confirm what actually needs to be done before installing it. Do I actually need to do a complete wipe of my phone again? It would be a bummer if I have to reinstall all my apps every time an update comes out. And also, do I have to reinstall the google apps file again as well? Thanks.
Bump......
Opinions differ. Some anal people say wipe everything three times before applying any change that affects the rom. Others say you are safe if you are changing from a similar generation (i.e., updating one version of gingerbread to another).
What I do is if I am changing to a majorly different rom I wipe. If it's similar I take my chances.
I ALWAYS make a backup before making any rom changes. That way I can always to back to where I was before if the non-wipe flash causes problems.
When I am running CM and updating with nightlies I don't wipe.

[Q] Complicated setup ...

Hey there -
I have a GN2 and before I get myself into a big mess, I thought I'd ask here. I'm no stranger to CWM and installing new ROMS on my phones, but I am in a new situation here. Since I'm a big space user, I used the script method to change my internal SD and my external SD so I have more space for apps.
I am currently running rooted stock with the multi view update and it works with no problem. The next goal, however, is to install CWM and try out some different ROMS. I know that I may or may not be able to do the SD switch, and that's fine. What I am wondering, though, is if I use CWM to do backups/restores, since the script that changes my SD configuration runs on boot, what do I need to do? Do I need to ditch this setup if I'm planning on doing anything with ROMS?
The ideal situation is that I can get a good backup of my current setup with CWM (or some other method), play with some new ROMS, and be able to go back to my current setup if necessary with as little fuss as possible (and of course, avoiding a brick).
Thanks for the help and advice!

[Q] First Time

I have never rooted my phone, and now I want to root and flash a new ROM.
But I am looking for a very stable ROM which i can use for many months without having to update it. So which ROMs could i prefer?
If I don't like it can I return to the stack ROM? Do i have to back it up first to be able to that?
If i download a ROM like CM for example; in each update would i loose all the apps and personal informations, or would installing updates of CM ROMs be similar to stock updates which do not effect the apps and personal informations?
I would appreciate all the suggestions.
Thanks.
There are many ROMs and every one has different opportunity for USERs, such as performance or daily use, so it is hard to suggest one. But the very stable ones are CM9/10 and those ROMs based on them. You can use one of them. And for your 2nd q, it is possible to go back to your stock. Backup is not necessary but hardly recommended. And for 3rd q, if you choose one of ROMs titled ''EOL'' you won't need to upgrade it, but when you prefer Alpha or Beta ROMs, upgrading won't delete any apps or data as long as you don't any ''Wipe Data or Format''

So if I don't wipe data can i switch between all the ROMs without loosing the apps or having to reinstall them once again?
Nope, it is just for upgrading current ROM such as from CM10.1 Beta 1 to CM10.1 Beta 2. But if you change ROM you need wipe data and other things because apps and data of previous ROM generally make some problems like FC App etc. when restored.
So you can just upgrade your ROM to upper version by doing only Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache but while changing ROM you have to do full wipe (inc. Data, dalvik etc.) and this ofcourse delete all of Apps. However you can use some apps (Appsaver for example) for backing-up apk files of your apps so you wont need any connection to re-install them. It backs up apk files of apps you choose then you only install them via any file manager.

First of all, i believed that there's no "very stable ROM" even with stock. Which ROM? it depends on your daily use, which you prefer battery life, performance, etc. You can always go back to stock ROM if you want just be sure you know how to do it. You can make a back-up of your entire stock ROM or just important files in external sd card like you messages and contacts. It depends actually on you on how you will do the ROM update but it is recommended to do clean installation to avoid problems.

keyboard ?
works Good to what i see but there's no keyboard . Any fix for that ?
Working great no issues with phone, gps or camera. Great job and I look forward to the updates. Seems great so far.
Thanks
I just installed the new build I am only wondering how do I turn off my mobile data. This ROM is amazing and everything works except for data turning off and front camera
Battery Life
When i flashed this rom onto my device, i noticed a significant drop in battery life. Has anyone else noticed this and is there a fix for this?
thnx
Thank you sooooooooooo much man ,,, its sooooooo cooool ROM
working Perfectly on my sprint Note 2 SPH-L900
camera works fine ,,, everything is cool ,,, downloading now gapps
So I'm relatively new to the forums, I mostly just read, learn and try to stay out of way. Just flashed latest nightly last night. So far very smooth and stable. I did some poking a prodding this morning to answer some questions I had coming from CM11 which I was also new to.
Nice to see Sprint carrier billing back in this version. I know I saw it posted that NFC was not working but everything but Tap & Pay seems to work fine for me. Beam and Tags all function okay.
On top of Netflix not working yet, Play Movies 3.6.16 FCs on launch and after reverting to 3.4.23 it waits until you press play to FC.
I did have the keyboard issue that has been mentioned but was prepared with SwiftKey apk on my sdcard just in case. After finishing setup ALL keyboards seem to function just fine.
BT and GPS both working great.
All in all very usable and I'm going to give it a go as a daily for as long as possible though I may have to revert back to CM11 just for the Netflix/Play Movies since we only stream in my household. We'll see.
Not sure if this thread was the best place to share (I can't seem to comment on the main thread) but if there's a more appropriate place to provide feedback that someone wants to point me at, happy to do it.
Nice work everyone who's contributing. Thanks for your efforts keeping my Note 2 relevant.?
GPS
How did you get the GPS working? I tried flashing the GPS fix linked in the thread and a clean install with the latest nightly. I drive around and never obtain a GPS lock.

"Edit: Make sure all important data and backups are stored to your external SD card before formatting. I used Philz 6.48.4 and CWM 6.0.5.0 when following this procedure.
[IMPORTANT]
After wiping clean to install a new rom, factory resetting, and wiping cache and dalvik cache, in philz recovery, go to your storage and mounts settings and format every option you can EXCEPT sdcard1. Reboot your recovery then proceed with the steps below.
Make sure you have your ROM, Gapps, SuperSU, and GPS fix zips on your external sdcard1. Flash in the order below.
1. Flash your ROM zip.
2. Perform a factory reset then wipe both cache options. This step is very important when facing problems after flashing.
3. Flash your Gapps zip. Wipe both cache.
4. Flash your SuperSU zip. Wipe both cache.
5. Flash GPSfix zip. Wipe both cache.
6. Reboot.
This process will give you the cleanest possible install with the highest chance of success. When I start having problems with flashing, I format everything (except sdcard1) then follow those steps. It's the same procedure I took when flashing the CM12 nightly and all is running well."
So I've been following the change log for this Rom, and I can't understand much.
I'm still on the 1/5/15 non nightly version and it's pretty much functional as a daily driver. What I'm wondering is are there any major differences for the newer nightlies?
Perhaps in addition to being a Q&A on these nightlies, everyone can post which version they're on, how it is (what's broken/what's been fixed), and what's new if anything.....
Newb question: This is the first time I've started on a ROM at such an early stage of its development. Typically how fast does CM development progress once a new version is started? Idle curiosity mostly.

Haha, thanks. ? I understand the nightly releases. What I meant was I guess is how long after a new version is started does it normally take to get to the first milestone or even snapshot release for instance? Like I said, I'm just curious about the process.

Lol. Yeah I wouldn't get your hopes up too high for that. It might happen but I guess we'll see. I don't think any device has gotten a milestone just yet anyway.

Keeps restarting on cm12 boot screen
Hey guys,
I have a situation I've never come across and wanted to see if someone might be able to point me in the right direction. I have two Samsung Note 2(l900) and running on cm12 as of this morning. I installed the new nightly on both devices the same exact way by opening clockwork recovery and installing zip. One device was successful and is working just fine, the other seemed to flash fine until it had finished loading the apps and going into boot. The device would restart on the note 2 logo screen and then proceed to the cm12 boot screen and then restart after a few seconds. I went back into recovery which took longer than usual, and proceeded to clear partition, wipe dalvik cache, and install older nightlies. I had the same result no matter what nightly I went with.
I decided to set the device back to stock rom and root again. I it worked just fine, so I went through the process about 4 times installing different nightlies but had the same restarting results. It was then I noticed that getting in clockwork recovery manually lagged about 30 seconds. I took the advice of someone on the Google plus forum and switched the recovery from clockwork to twrp. Tried again with the same restarting results and with the manual recovery lagging about 30 seconds to get into.
It seems to work just fine if I flash to stock touchwiz but recovery seems to have issues.
Anyone getting Netflix or Play Movies to work yet on the latest versions? It's the only thing that made me have to revert back to CM11. I tried looking over the change log but honestly I don't know what half that stuff means.?

I've tried several methods and combinations of wiping at every possible opportunity before pressing reboot and i'm still having
issue. All the the apps are listed in the app drawer displaying the file name instead of the app name. Also all of the apps display the same icon (default android) and the not installed toast appears when attempting to launch any of them. Is anyone else having this issue
attempted flashing

attempted with both gapps-lp-20141109-signed.zip and LollipopMicroGapps-121914-HighOnAndroid.zip both downloaded from http://galaxynote2root.com
I would prefer to use the aforementioned build because the build I'm running is not compatible with the nightlies

Sorry, I'm probably not the most knowledgeable. If it wasn't for these forums I wouldn't know how to do any of it. I haven't had any issues flashing, but I followed the steps I quoted from the get go and do that every time. Currently I'm back on the last KitKat nightly because Netflix/Play Movies is still not working on CM12. Have you tried any of the CM11 builds? Im currently using:
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/98444/cm-11-20150118-NIGHTLY-l900.zip
and I use the 20140606 GApps package found here:

Odd that Netflix and Play Movies don't work. Plex, Amazon Instant Video, MX Movie Player, and Chromecast all work.
