[Q] "Too Many Pattern Attempts" Issues - HTC Wildfire S

My HTC Wildfire S has effectively been bricked after too many incorrect pattern attempts, and is stuck on the gmail account unlock screen.
My issue is, prior to it being bricked, neither wifi nor 3G had been activated on the phone, so it can't authenticate the gmail account when it's entered. Also, USB Debugging was disabled, hence making it very difficult to do much with a PC.
I'd very much prefer to stay away from a factory reset, as there is a lot of data on there that I'd like to keep, so any workaround, no matter how obscure, I would appreciate.

Which rom is this on stock rom
Sent from my Wildfire S A510e using xda premium

It is indeed on a stock rom, yes.
Also, if it helps, the phone is on Telstra.

Wats it showing on screen give me full details so I can help u and tell me if u r roted and have recovery
Sent from my Wildfire S A510e using xda premium

The phone is entirely unmolested, I was intending to root it soon but apart from that it's essentially stock in every respect. Also, I have no recovery images.
It's simply the screen requesting a login using the gmail account that was used to set up the phone that appears after too many screen pattern attempts. The problem resides in that the phone has neither network nor WiFi internet enabled, and I can't change that through adb because USB debugging is also disabled.

Maybe u disabled the data connection before I guess
Sent from my Wildfire S A510e using xda premium

Yes, the data connection was disabled before, thats my problem, if I could re-enable it, I'd be fine, the problem is the only way I know of doing that is by adb, however USB debugging has also been disabled.

Ya but still u can flash recovery don't wry say me if u have 2012 wfs model

Huh, got yourself into a pickle there.
From bootloader maybe, but I have no idea.

Just tried that now, I have the phone in bootloader, there's the five options, fastboot, recovery, factory reset, simlock and image crc...not entirely sure how exactly they function, except for of course factory reset...thought to perhaps explore fastboot, and there's the options "bootloader", "reboot", "reboot bootloader" and "power down". Any hints on where to poke my nose around in here?

Could it be possible to access the phone in bootloader or fastboot via adb without having to enable usb debugging within the actual phone?

No to push files u have to enable USB debugging

Sent from my Wildfire S A510e using xda premium

At this point, I pretty much just see a factory reset ..
You can't flash anything, seeing how USB Debug is off, so ..
At the very best, you could ask your local retailer :/

Go to recovery -> mount and storage -> format all (no /sdcard) -> install new rom

[Q] stuck in lockscreen forgot my lock screen password

Well, I normally dont use any type of lock for my HTC Desire HD, however I had people messing around with my phone therefore I set up a lock screen with password. Problem is I had mistyped the password 2times in a row while setting it up therefore now I don't know how to unlock my device. I have a gmail account however even after typing a incorrect password 75 times it still doesnt give the option to put my gmail it may be that I dont have internet connection at the moment on my device , all I have is emergency call. I dont want to delete my data on the device, I'm running LeeDroid custom rom. I've heard some suggestion about using ADB but couldnt find proper method how to
Replies very much appreciated,
thanks
I think the only thing you can do is wipe and flash rom again although i would assume there is some sort of forgot password repair.

that's what I really don't wanna do, got some stuff which I hadn't backed up yet thanks though.
Did you trie to re-install the custom ROM? Don't know for sure but if you don't format or wipe anything maybe it will set the lockscreen back in default.
Download android-sdk, this will give you the adb control.
when you plug your cell to your computer it will ask you what do to, and you can choose internet pass through(get internet from the computer on to the cell) and maybe the lockscreen will send a "reset password" request.
anyway, if you re-flash your current ROM without any wipes, you won't be loosing any data

Try wipe data
Sent from my GT-S5360 using XDA
as mentioned by the previous poster.
I think using "wipe data" will reset the phone to the original settings back to the "click the android to begin".
this method may work unless you still have something you want to backup from your phone.
if it still does not work, then it is a good time to unleash the power of ODIN!!!!
you can unlock it with android sdk.phone must be soft or hardrooted.start the phone usb debug must be enebled for this method,i hope you have, open cmd window(windows)navigate to "platform-tools" from sdk folder where is da adb.exe, type step by step the following commands:
adb remount
adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key
after thats the lock is deleted, the joke is the phone ask for the patternlock, but you can type wat u want all is right now.
Method nr2:
The second option presented here is the quickest and cheapest option, since it costs nothing
You choose first "emergency". Give her as an emergency number
*2767*3855#
Now you can reset your phone and lock the screen is then gone, too, as your data.
i hope it helps:good:
explanation:method1
If your set at the Androiddevice a screen unlock, it is in the folder / data / system file with the name "gesture.key" created. This contains the data as the correct pattern looks like, in encrypted form. If this is now removed with the rm command so the system knows the unlock does not work properly and take any pattern to be correct.

[Q] USB storage gone after ViperXL

Somehow after unlocking, rooting and flashing my AT&T One X, I've lost the dialog screen offerinUSB storage (Disk Drive) when I plug the phone into my mac. Now I'm simply offered tethering options and various Internet sharing features.....but no more Charge Only/Disk Drive option. So I'm having quite the time trying to transfer various huge files over bluetooth....
And I missing something or is there some way to remedy this?
Thanks a bunch!

Flashed custom. ViperXL 3.2.6. Everything else works flawlessly, this is the one hiccup. I used to get a USB icon that would pull down and reveal "Charge Only" or "Disk Drive"...now I get that same icon, but with "Portable Hotspot and Tethering" and the option to turn on or off debugging.

First of all, your bootloader on top says EVITA ....right ? Then you are wrong here. This is the forum for the ENDEAVOURU HTC one x
You have the HTC one XL !
Second : you are using JB ? Then it uses MTP....media transfer protocol.
So please go to the right forum now.

Apologies if I'm in the wrong place - however, to clarify, it says Evita, I'm on Jellybean and it is a One X.

maybe I'm misunderstanding the protocol here. Are there specific areas for specific boards?
Thank you kind sir.
No problem, but as you are here to ask questions.....you also might look for roms here and that's the main problem, you can brick it here
You need to go to the at&t, rogers, HTC one xl forum (dont recall the exact name)
But for now you can solve this by entering the recovery and mount it there as a mass storage device.

Solved - Your mention of MTP reminded me that's not native to Macs - so I installed that and we're good to go - everything back to normal.
Thanks again - I'll be sure to track down more hardware specific forums in the future.

Hi, thanks for your quickly reply.
Yes, i have tried multiple cables, in fact, i use original cable. When i connect phone to PC it ask to "Turn on USB Storage" as i touch it which 5 seconds it gets hanged and only works when i disconnect and restarting my phone.
It doesn't ask whether to use as Media Device or Mass Storage. It used to ask when my phone wasn't rooted, but after rooting it doesn't.

OK what recovery do u have installed? When u connect to PC does the usb connected icon appear in status bar? If so, when click it does it bring u to usb mass storage page?Do u have Samsung kies installed cuz that will prevent the phone staying connected sometimes, what I suggest is removing kies, trying diff com ports on the PC, and try going into phone settings/more settings/USB utilities and seeing if u can
Change the connection, if none of that works then my next suggestion would be to install a custom rom, I can suggest a few if u want, if u have any issues or need more help pm me or u can catch me on hangouts too

Hi,
I am using "aokp_hercules_jb-mr1_build-6". Yes, USB connected icon appears in status bar. When i click it, it asks me to "turn on mass storage" and once i click it my phone gets hanged. Kies is not installed in my PC.
I checked my storage options and i reached to Setting/Storage/USB computer connection it is showing 3 options to connect as
Media device (MTP)
Camera (PTP)
Mass storage
I enabled Mass storage and tried to connect USB again. This time it got connected but which 10 seconds it hanged

Thought it might be. I'm almost certain it's one of these, and as the last thing we'd want is to give you incorrect info which won't fix the problem at best & might exacerbate it at worst, I've asked mods to move your thread to the correct forum

Thanks, but this question is probably 'android in general' right? Can i put the phone in recovery (how do I do that? Power+vol up+home?) and ADB into the phone even if there is a screen lock password?
Well sounds like you need to hook it up by using mhl. It basically puts the screen on a tv through a cord. If the screen still registers touches that would be awesome. But if not I wouldnt know how to go about anything further. Because in order for you to hook up a mouse at this point you would need a bluetooth mouse. Because the usb port would be used up by the mhl adapter. Not sure how you would be able to bypass that one and hook up the mouse. Kies also will pull data but that would require the phone be passed the security lock.
You could however try using odin. You can hook your phone up to mhl. Put your phone in download mode. Which is power button and volume down. Hold both until you reach a screen with text. Then push volume up. At that point you can flash the el26 kernel. Which gives you cwm recovery. Then reboot into recovery. Volume up and power. Hold until the recovery screen comes up. From there you can mount your sd cards. And pull data like normal.
Goodluck whichever way you decide.

In terminal for adb type
Code:
adb pull /storage/sdcard0 /your/backup/directory
Obviously you'll replace /your/backup/directory with where you're going to save the memory to, and it helps if you've already created the directory if you're putting it into a new folder.

So how do I make sure the internal storage is mounted?

Figuring out what he said, about mhl, finding a cable that would do that, and etc. is much HARDER than trying ADB.... he provided no links, just general statements. ADB 'commands' to do this sort of thing are on several forums; just wanted to confirm that it's similar on this phone.

Alright, I'm going to need a little more info before we can figure this one out.
The screen is broken, ok. Is it black, or can you see anything? Is it responsive in any way?
You're running unrooted stock, what version? Ics, Jellybean?
What OS is on your computer, and what tools do you currently have?
In order to do this, you will need to root the device (unrooting without a trace is easy as pie ) but I will need to know what situation we're looking at, ie.. How bad is it? lol
