S3 ex gf - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hello. My ex girlfriend cut my phone off when I broke up with her. I went to tmobile corporate office Store and switched the phone to a prepaid. 2 months later she is calling me saying I have to pay her 400 to cancel her plan or she is reporting the phone stolen when I paid for the phone. Can she do this? Since I had it switched from her plan on mine which is prepaid.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Wait...the line is under her name? You're screwed lol, her account, her phone. She can have the imei blacklisted and you have yourself a nice android version of a iPod touch.
If she does report it, you can keep the it or sell it for parts, don't expect to get too much for it though.
|When Emotion Goes Up, Logic Goes Down|
|Even If You Fall Face First You're Still Moving Forward|

How did you pay for the phone ? Did you pay through T-Mobile or to her or what ?
If you paid through her she can do this and you'd have to take her to small claims court or something and hope you have enough proof to win the case. This is pretty much the same way that people on CL scam people into buying a phone and then stopping paying for it / reporting it stolen - and there's plenty of evidence of people getting burned that way.
Otherwise, this is why it's a bad idea to have things in a significant other's name when you're just dating. At least with marriage there's automatic legal recourse if you divorce (even if it's still an expensive and drawn-out process). This is just way too much ridiculous drama, I'd suggest that you talk to a T-Mobile rep but they're going to have to sift through all this he-said she-said crap and I can't blame them if they can't figure it out or just don't care, sorry dude.

if you have the receipt and it was paid for by your bank card, then that changes the game to in your favor not hers. (this happened to my step dad)

That 400 is probably the early cancellation fee PLUS the contract price of the phone.
You're best bet is to convince her to spin the phone off from her contract to your own contract. T-Mobile won't care as long as the contract isnt broken. In this case it's not, she has her contract and you have yours.
Good Luck

Damn what a hateful chick lol
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Exactly. I paid 235 with my bank card at the store to get the phone. And I paid 100 for her cell phone bill. Her bill was 95 a month when I got the phone with my employee discount added it dropped the bill to 145 a month. I was paying 80 a month for my half of the bill.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

But what is werid is that I went into the corporate tmobile store and talking to them and they took the phone off her account and put it on mine with a prepaid sim card.

If you have a receipt from this ^^^ transaction, then you are in the clear. Sounds to me like she is trying to scam you for the ETF and $400 is in that range (probably with a little extra tagged on for her "pain and suffering")

Monthly 4g cracked screen

Im getting a s2 tomorrow with a cracked screen. Im ordering a screen off ebay and repairing it myself. I ordered a sim card from t mobile today and they said i can get a insurance protection plan on the phone even though i got it off craigslist. I wanted to know if anyone heard of this? They said its 7.99 a month. Im asking because 3 months from now if it crackes again because i keep hearing stories about it how much to replace it under that plan?

Read the fine print. There is likely a deductible. I've seen deductibles as high as $150
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Deductible for a s2 is 130, and yes its possible to put insurance on a phone purchased outside of T-Mobile at time of activation but as of right now it's only for contracted rate plans. I have heard prepaid will soon have the availability for ins. but nothing currently and no telling when

Your ESN will be flagged until you pay it off. There are ways to get the device on Boost or MetroPCS but they cannot be discussed on XDA.

Flashing a phone to another carrier is NOT against forum regulations.
However, doing so for the purpose of defrauding a privider, IS.
And I think you are planning to defraud. .

That means it's Sprints phone, and I'm sure they want it back.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
$200 is the carrier subsidized amount you pay. Sprint pays $300 for the phone upfront and make it back from you via you PAYING your bills. (they don't profit till the 2nd year of contract).
There is a reason OFF CONTRACT phones cost $500+.
pm if u wanna put it on boost its good service doesnt matter if ur phone have a bad isn
If you do get to keep the phone defintely put it on boost, virgin mobile, or page plus. I am currently on virgin mobile and only pay $25 bucks a month for 300 mins unlimited everything else. Can't beat $25 for service

im assuming your account wont be cancelled right away.. it will first be suspended for non payment then after so much time will be cancelled for non payment at which you would have so much time to pay it before it goes to collections.. once the account is cancelled the esn is good.. sprint still makes there money which is why they have etf's.. if you dont pay it they sell it to the collectors who harass you until its paid..

Yeah...I don't know what makes him think that if he's exactly 1 day late, they will cancel the phone. Sorry dude, doesn't work that way. I don't think they suspend service till you are 30 days late. Even then the account isn't "cancelled". Eventually it will be. The etf will be tacked on to the bill you already owe. After an amount of time, it'll then go to collections, in which case, the amount owed will "grow". At the end of the day, collections, late fees, etf fees. It will be big bucks and screwed credit.

Did I get lucky?

So, I saw a girl write on Facebook that she is selling a T Mobile Galaxy S3. So I inboxed her and ask how much she wanted. She told me to make an offer, so I said I wouldn't pay any more than $300. Then she asked me would I pay $220? I told her yes!!!! Says its brand new used since June comes with box booklets etc and flawless condition! Did I just hit jackpot? Is the phone worth it? Anything I should "lookout" for? I'm a galaxy nexus owner by the way guys!!!

Hopefully she isnt scamming you by selling her phone, reporting it stolen, having TMo blackball your phone rendering it useless, using insurance to replace her 'stolen' phone and pocketing the leftover cash.
Other than that you did good!

Since you told her they are going for 300(which is really cheap to start with for a s3) and she offered you 220 for it, seems too good to be true.
But if everything checks out OK with the imei then yes you scored big time.
But make sure you get pictures over the device. I've ran into so many scams on Craigslist that it wouldn't surprise me if they migrated to Facebook.
My advice, proceed with caution

Either she's pulling a fast one in you if she's beyond stupid. You offered $300 but she only wants $220? What? Like everyone else said, verify the IMEI before you give her a single cent.

She's about 18 years old I'm sure, and she's just switching carriers, I really doubt there's any fishy stuff going on, but I will see if she meets me at the T-Mobile store in our local mall. I don't wanna go there and have the people say something like "your selling it for only 220, that's unfair!" And blow everything up in my face :/ I wont be using the phone as my daily driver but I will switch from galaxy nexus to s3 every few days ^_^

Who lied? Have you gone back and disputed this? If it was done at the store Customer service can't do much as there's no proof to what you're claiming is true so the best option is to go back to store and vice versa. Airave does help if you qualify for one. Check www.sprint.com/airavecoverage. For your discount you have to apply through www.sprint.com/verify but nothing anyone can do in regards to the % the company you're claiming offers.

I wonder itlf its more prevalent depending on the region. I live in Oregon and have been buying and selling phone since the my touch 3g days. Never been scammed or low-balled. You gotta be smart and patient. If then price us too good ask tons of questions. Check the phone out and get a feel for the vibe the person is giving off. If they are being oushy they are either really needing to get the phone sold or are up to something. I always meet in a crowded public place and I'd recommend meeting at Tmobile if you are really super worried. I've done more trades than anythi ng though and have not had anyone call me back. Ever. I think I've had more people offer me low ball amounts but never scammed.
