From this high. Got a snap on tpu case on it. Nothing happened. I just knew the glass was gonna be shattered. There is a phone God. Not a single scratch... whew!

Dropped mine right when I got it, I was trying to put a case on it, and on the way down I some how kicked it in an attempt to catch it, landed face down on the concrete....not a scratch. Guerrilla glass for the win.

Dropped mine in Killington buried it as I rode over it in about 10 inches of powder. Hiked back up, dug it out and it was still running. No cracks, no water damage, still running alpine replay and music never stopped. This phone has the perfect nickname OG ALL DAY

pretty frign good.
Case or not the phone has to be tough because the case couldn't protect it completely from a fall like that.
watch the drop tests on YouTube. Dude drops it from pretty high, without cases on all sorts of surfaces with no significant damage to the phone whatsoever.
The problem is that some people rave, while others revile. My wife dropped hers and it shattered.
I've been highly impressed with the build quality of this phone. I used to have an Otterbox on it but it made it too bulky and honestly the phone looks so good I want to show it off haha. I've dropped it onto my concrete shop floor multiple times and not a scratch or anything. There is a few places where the chrome paint on the trim has chipped off but very minor. Both my Evo 3D and this phone have held up extremely well.

But what I read here goes with my discussion on another site that you can drop 5+ of the same phone and get different results each time.
I just had my friend drop theirs while sitting on the toilet. No higher than 3 feet and the screen cracked across the top. Nothing below the crack responded. Crazy how physics works. They did not have a case on theirs though.
edit: they do have the at&t version though, clearly inferior.

No, it cracked from about a 6 inch slide. That's the worst part about it. There's not a single mark on my phone because it was in a case when it happened. I called Samsung and they have to evaluate whether the damage was caused by me or some sort of manufacturing defect. I'm almost positive they're gonna rule against me despite how ridiculous the circumstances were.

It was just some plastic case that Target (ironically) had on clearance. I kinda regret that decision...
It mostly depend on the point of impact. If you dropped it directly at it's corner, it'll most likely crack. And I feel the screen on this phone cracks way too easily. I've dropped it once on my bed. Luckily the screen didn't crack.
I have minor scratches on my screen from I have no clue what, I've had a case on it since day one and never lay my phone on its front only on the back and it has minor but noticeable scratches. Annoying and very weak GG

Just curious. I got my SIII on the 29th and haven't bothered with a case yet. My previous phone was an archaic Motorola Razr V3m that I had for 5 years and in that time I only dropped it a couple times on the carpet, and once it hit my closet door track which did put a ding on it. I'm thinking of just forgoing a case.
Only have ghost armor in mine. No hard case.
Dropped quite a few times. Usually just the battery case pops off in the harder falls. One fall left an slight dent that I didn't even notice till later.
Have dropped on sides and front. No screen cracks yet. No scratches...only because of the skin that covers the full body.

This was a common issue with the t989(s2) right out of the box it's a defect call T-Mobile and get a free warranty replacement. Yea those dark spots were bad on the t989 actually very bad. The gs3 is a long way from that but this is definitely the result of their amoled screen
I'm using a D30 case from T-Mobile but I have never dropped my phone, I rarely leave it out unless it's on the charger when I'm in bed. I don't get how people don't protect their devices in some way.

Cars can get pretty hot inside with windows rolled up in heat of summer.
95degF can lead to an inside air temperature 149degF + in just 15 minutes , Longer the car remains unopened the hotter it gets you can bake cookies.

Im in the SE USA were temps rise to 110degF so I'm thinking those cookies would take half the time lol

If you think the seidio active is gonna be less slick, I think you're in for a surprise. Though I've never used the commuter, I was using an active before the defender came out, and I kept feeling like it was gonna slide out of my hand. Not to mention how loose the rubber part is.

I can verify from first hand experience that his phone does not take even a small drop onto a hard surface well. My first one slipped out of my pocket and fell no more than 30 inches onto pavement and it looked like it had been ran over by a dump truck. Get a case and never look back folks.

you can get insurance on pre-paid.
when i was working at the store, i would not let somebody leave unless they had insurance or a case. this is exactly why. you drop something made of glass, it will likely break. until that flex composite screen is implemented on these devices, well, good luck and cross your fingers if you drop one of these things.
OP, sucks man. sorry to hear that. i have been lucky thus far and dropped many of my devices without cracking a screen. had a case on my s3, and my note II simply because they are bigger, weigh more, and therefore will hit the ground with more force.

Looking on it in near sight I've already noticed one thing. The glass doesn't cover full size of the phone but instead has .2mm spare space to the edges of phone. Also the glass in not surrounded by banking board. Also the glass has beveled edge, about 70° sharp.
So I presume that the glass would not crack even if the phone would be dropped from 6 feet height. Unless of course it would be dropped flat fall on screen
Another indirect proof of that is here. Watch Note 2 has cracked glass when G Pro doesn't have severe damages
If you think this device is drop proof you are delusional. I haven't watched the linked video nor do I need to. The front is glass and could crack from a 6" fall. Many things factor in here including luck.

And also I'll attach here link to this topic Optimus G = UNBREAKABLE
Well no phones drop proof obviously but ive had 2 friends that had lg phones and ive had one myself and I can tell u theyre probably the some of the best built on the market. My connect was dropped, thrown, stepped on, kicked and all manner of torment and worked like the day I bought it till the day I traded it in on this. Ive seen lg phones survive multiple (so many I lost count) drops that would have sent a samsung or htc device to the scrap heap...

Exactly. My wife has a One X. She has dropped, thrown it onto a hard floor with force, and let's our 3 old play with it like it's his. It has a ton of scratches, but hasn't broken. Some were saying when it released that it was super fragile. I guess since hers has been abused it must be the toughest phone ever made. Right? No, she's been extremely lucky.

I don't Think that it was luck. I also had the one X and dropped it a few times and the screen never cracked or shattered.

Lol reminds me of my indestructible Sammy Infuse. Threw it a many times and all I ever got was a small glass chip on the corner then one day I threw it on gravel rocks and let's just say that's the end of that

I thought I threw it to the grass but it fell a bit short. Otherwise, my infuse was practically indestructible, surving every fall(maybe 8-10 times)

I dropped my GPro out of my lap when I was getting out of my truck and it hit the asphalt pretty hard on a corner and barely nicked it. The phone pretty much looks flawless. Seems durable to me as long as u don't drop it face first. Lol

You mean the camera lens? That sucks man. Hopefully there will be extra parts available soon and you could fix that up yourself. I know I would. I'm ocd enough that it would bug the crap outta me
In the meantime, if anybody asks, just say the phone developed character

Do not go without a case, this phone is not durable at all! This is what happens from slding out of my pocket while in a chair and falling <18" to a patio.

I'm assuming by patio you mean stone/brick/concrete/pavers, right? If that's the case, most phones wouldn't be too fond of an 18" drop.
Yeah, but I've had other phones hit asphalt from 4-5 feet high on the corner and survive with only nick in the bezel. My post is just a warning that this phone is definitely not "drop proof". I've only had the OGP for four days and already have to shell out $ for an insurance claim. Sad thin is my case I ordered is supposed to show up today.
