[Q] Flashed new font (rom toolbox pro) and now bricked... - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Howdy there all. Just got my new S3, rooted and everything without a hitch... that is, until I tried to flash a new font in rom toolbox pro. Now it's bricked and stuck at the 4GLTE screen. Is there anything I can do?
I need a little assistance here...

If you can turn it on boot to recovery and flash a rom.

What ROM are you on?
If you have important data needed, you could make a backup, flash the ROM you are on, try restoring data ONLY, and then profit.

Hope you have a backup. Not to be a jerk but there's a reason Toolbox throws a warning to backup first.
Are you bricked or just boot looping?

Not bricked as he said it's booting to the lte screen... worse comes to worse, Odin stick reroot and start over. Next time before modding anything on your device make a backup in recovery

Basically, next time before you flash a mod like the person in the original post, make a backup of your current setup in recovery (twrp). So if anything like this does happens, you can easily restore your phone back to its last working state. The OP may be able to dirty flash a rom and may be able to keep his old data/apps.

[Backup] Stock Rom

Here is a stock rom backup for the Sprint G S III. I made the backup after doing a data wipe, so the rom is pure, no lingering data, ect.
Instructions:
-unzip the .zip file
-move the backup folder into your existing CWM folder on the S III internal memory
-restore in recovery
Again, this is a stock backup as some people need it.

From my dropbox, so hit it easy.
Nice, know of some that will appreciate this.

Give him a break. At least this isn't in development.
And he at least did something that could be useful until we get a real stock rom .zip or .tar

It's not, it's a backup. That's not the point, it's still useful to many users that have possibly screwed their device but still have access to recovery. Especially until something official comes out.
will there be a stock package on odin different than just the stock boot image? my phone is bricked for no apparent reason(see my thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731416) and flashing the stock boot image in odin does nothing. i Also cant get into CWM to flash my backup...

Eventually there will be, but a lot of people [to include major developers] still don't have the phone yet, so we'll have to be patient. I looked over it, though currently are you able to get into recovery still or no? Additionally did you try re-flashing the cwm recovery in odin?
I can get into download mode but not into CWMR. The only thing i have tried flashing since it bricked is boot-stock-sprint-sph-l710.tar (which sort of worked the first time). I'm at work and don't have my phone on me so i guess i could try flashing CWMR again later but this is really weird. Thanks for the reply. This is my first Sprint phone, but on my Droid X we had a program similar to Odin where you could push a .sbf file that included everything stock and basically just reset your phone to stock. Do these exist for Sprint phones? The . SBF files were usually rather large(around 350mb or so) but the boot-stock-sprint-sph-l710.tar is around 10 or 15 mb so i know it doesn't include all the system files...
Thanks again

Lol i just replied the same thing over on another thread he posted in. Stop jumping around pizzle! if you can get into Odin chances are good you can flash cwm and then restore the backup
hahaha sorry about that. When I try and boot into recovery it looks like its about to go to Recovery and then freezes on the Galaxy S III screen. I'll try reflashing CWMR when I get home...Thanks for the advice
So is a back up a nandriod?
I have made a few but never resorted one, you just flash it same as a ROM and your done?
I misplaced my stock nandroid when I flashed CM10 build 2 and my extFs SD card had to be formatted to use again, I was sure I had in on PC but can't find it.
Thanks!

[Q] How to uninstall cyanogenmod 10 but keep the root? im new

hello everyone this is my first time asking a question on here so forgive if i got this in the wrong section.
i was wondering if you all could tell me how to "uninstall" cyanogenmod 10 off my samsung epic, but without unrooting.
i like cyanogenmod but i have to get it off because i cant change phone lines within my account because in order to put service back on my phone sprint wants me to dial ##somenumbers# and a menu is suppose to pop up but it doesnt and i think i read somewhere around here that you dial those "codes" in the dialer because they wont work.
soo I followed qbkings method to root my phone. youtube title = how to root the samsung epic on FC09
then i installed cyanogenmod10 using his method again
I did this to two samsung epics since i have two samsung epics at my disposal and i would follow qbkings method of unrooting
but i tried that on of the epics but odin failed and it got completly bricked and I mean hard bricked. so i am extremly fearful of even attempting qbkings unrooting method since i completly bricked one of the epics trying to unroot it.
and i was thinking that since i followed qbkings method i just need to go to recovery mode after turning off the phone and then clear everything data and cache.
and then do the install zip from sd card and just install the deodexedFC09 zip file that i previously put on the card when i was rooting my phone.
and then that would be it but i am extremly fearful of messing with the phone like that because i really dont want to brick my phone so i come to you all today for your help on this because i am new to rooting and flashing roms on my phone so i didnt really know whereelse to ask.
Ive tried looking for help on the forums and the web but i did not find nothing so i just rather ask then ...
You can buy a jig for like $1-2 to jump the bricked one back in dl mode then flash full stock, as for the other, there is a boot from sdcard rom that will enable you to activate your phone without uninstalling cm10

Also, you can just flash a tw mtd rom to get those dialer codes woring... just flash TPR (the peoples rom) after backing up cm10... flash tpr, boot it, call sprint, do your thing, restore backup of cm10... all done...
alright ill try that but can you tell how to flash the peoples rom? or anyother rom for that matter.
i assume that i boot into recovery mode and clear everything and install from sdcard and look for the zip of the rom? im not sure if thats how to do it? if not can you explain to me how?

That's exactly right. Remember to wipe data in cwm. Use titanium backup to back up any 3rd party apps and data you need first.

4th I wipe cache partition
5th go to advanced menu and wipe dalvik cache?
6th install zip from sd card and look for the peoples rom and install that right?
this would be how to install the peoples rom if i have cyanogenmod 10?

Boot into recovery, go to backup and restore, press restore, press on the backup you just made (the name will be the date). And press restorre... once you boot into recovery, its pretty self-explanitory from there on out...

Quick help on installing a rom

Hello,
I just want to quickly as a question. Ok so i rooted my phone and installed a custom ROM and also installed a theme as well...Say I want to properly remove the theme and installing anoter downloaded theme can I just follow regualr ROM installation? Like first download ROM to phone, wipe data put it in the CVM or whatever mode and install from zip....I went into that and wiped/factory reset the phone thinking it would remove the theme and it was still there when it was done. Any suggestions is appreciated

Did you do a nandroid backup before flashing your theme? It's usually strongly suggested that you do so in case you didn't like it or if something went wrong.

Not sure what a nandroid backup is. I just rooted it for the first time yesterday so I will try to recall my processs. K i found a website that gave step by step instructions. THen i put it in some mode. Opened a program called Odin??Oden?? then I remember at some point it made me do a backup. So if i restore to that back up what you might be saying is it will remove the them and restore my phone to the way it was right after root.? I believe it made me back it up after root or it may have been before...How would i restore it to backup anyways. I hold the volume up, center key, and power key until i get into that mode. then can I just install my new theme I downloaded? THis is all confusing but interesting and I like this kind of stuff when it comes to mobile devices.
Thanks!

Flashing through Odin means you have the phone in Download Mode (to flash a custom recovery and gain root access). Since you are at this point and no sure you did a backup, I wouldn't chance anything else from there.
A few questions: Can you be more specific on what you may have flashed? I know this is new to you and if you want to keep going into the never-ending hole of flashing new ROMs, I would definitely suggest you familiarize yourself with the terms used such as Recovery (CWM, TWRP, etc.), Download Mode, Odin, Kernel, Nandroid, International ROMs vs. your model number ROMs (this is what has been getting a lot of newer flashers in some trouble lately thinking they can just flash any ROM they want without the consequence of reading about it first) . Second question is now that you have familiarized yourself on what you have flashed (after reading up), what Recovery are you using? What ROM are you using? What theme did you flash?
Be patient. We all had to go through this at one point... it's just that most of us were doing this for years with lesser/free/inexpensive devices and worked our way up to the Note II and you are starting with a very expensive piece of equipment. If you're patient, then you can be careful. Read up and understand the Android platform then we can go from there.

I did it from galaxynote2root.com. It seemed straight forward. Now im going to research what my recovery is and what thingy did I flash and so forth Will be back shortly and hopeufully i will know a couple things.
He installed jedi x11
He's using cwm
As I stated in the pm
Reflash jedi x11. No need to use odin.
That will remove the theme. And a nandroid is a backup made via recovery. Its your new best friend. Get well aquainted with it
Also do some reading up on titanium backup and app2zip

Help
Dont know if my last message went through so i'll rewrite it. I help the 3 buttons to get into download mode and chose restore and in the end it did restore my phone back to stock right after root. just without jedi or my other theme. so i tried installing another theme i downloaded thinking worst case scenario i can just restore again. so the theme didnt work it just kept staying on the loading screen and when i went to try to restore again by holding home vol up and power it now says file doesnt exist. does it erase backup everytime i use it and should always backup again after a restore? help please im sitting here with my phone in the download mode. i believe jedi will load ok but i want to get back to my backup i had made before jedi was installed.
Backup shouldn't get erased unless you wiped where the backup was. And flashing a theme made for jedi won't work on your backup if it's a backup of your rooted stock rom.

Stay away from themes until youre more confident. Albeit may not happen if you aren't careful you'll full brick that thing.
Just use play store themes till you figure stuff out.
Or go to at&t jedi x11 or xp11 depending on which one you have and ask soneone if they have any good stable themes for jedi x? But don't just flash it. Google or you tube, etc. Be careful
sent from my 1920 overclocked note 2 running jedi xp11
It's kinda obvious you weren't ready for flashing a theme, and you said that at some point after you rooted that you think it made you do a backup. At no point in the rooting/flashing stage are you made to do a backup, so if you didn't choose to stop and do one before flashing Jedi then I'm confident that you don't have anything to restore.
I would start from the beginning with Jedi, wipe dalvik and cache, wipe system and do a factory reset, making sure your rom is on your external sd card. Then re-flash Jedi... This should put you on stock Jedi rom without a theme.

Did you follow the instructions and wipe we during including system first? Because that causes big problems in his rom. Also the dev for that rom says to only use TWRP 2.6.3.1 for now.
Did you restore any apps with titanium?

You most likely will have to flash a stock rom using Odin on the computer.
The only problem with that is if you had to get your phone flashed to Virgin Mobile like I did with PagePlus, it may or may not erase those critical settings. I could never get a clear answer on that, but it is best to play it safe and assume it will. However, your phone should be functioning once again. You will however have to re-root the phone, and might as well install TWRP. All of this can be done through Odin.
Alternatively, if you have a custom recovery installed and a rom or two on your sdcard, you could try to flash the rom instead of going all the way back to stock. That would help ensure your carrier settings arent wiped related to Virgin, as it could if you were to flash back to stock.
Then for the love of god, devil, or whoever you believe in... make a backup once you are fixed and back up and running!! They are perfect and extremely helpful for situations like this.

You have to have the proper boot animation binaries before you go flashing boot animation. Those zips are for flashing in custom roms that already have the proper binaries.
