Galaxy s3 Screen stopped working!!!! - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

So my screen suddenly stopped working out of nowhere...... Hardware lights come on but screen stays pitch black..... Doesn't seem to recognize any gestures you do to it sounds like if is completely dead or disconnect it or something not really sure........ Now my question is should I order a new screen and replace it ? or could the problem be something else ? Just looking for opinions and also a site that you could order a screen from im using my galaxy nexus for the mean time so I'm not in a hurry but would like to get it fixed...... Thanks for all the help in advanced :good:

It sounds like the digitizer and lcd went bad... if I was you id take it apart and check the connections before you order the screen. That way you dont loose more money than you need to if its something more

alright, good luck man. just take pictures as you do it so you know where everything goes. and take you time. the best thing to do is to watch as many tutorials as possible so there is the least possible chance of making it worse.

That's what I thought. Sounds like a hard brick if you can't get to recovery or download mode. Search out mobiletechvideos they offer j-tag services and I have seen them recommended on here often.
The OP made a mistake and now needs help to fix it.

I heard you can pull battery and then attempt to get into download mode from there from a thread long ago.

Few days ago I just started installing ROMs for the first time on my rooted AT&T S3. Starting with CM10, then JellyBam, and so forth testing/trying out one at a time. I was clearing dalvik and wiping cache before and after installing each ROM. Each ROM worked fine until I finally reached the fourth or fifth ROM called Foxhound and that's when my phone when to crap. I went through the install and after it rebooted my screen went blank and never came back on. Unable to get into CWM or Download Mode, I did battery pull and also plugged via USB into my PC it still won't boot. I read that the USB jig works on the Galaxy S3, already ordered and waiting for it to come in. If that doesn't work then I'm gonna have to send it in for JTAG repair. I already read off another site that someone encountered the same issue and the USB jig didn't work (this is after I already ordered it) so I'm crossing my fingers.
And this is all because of Samsung Allshare Play isn't compatible with CM10 because it works off touchwiz. So I was looking for a touchwiz based ROM and heard about Foxhound. Once I get my phone back up I'm going to try Jedi Invasion ROM as I heard some good reviews.

Lmao I think I might understand. Sometimes even though the screen is black you can still do the button combo for download mode and it'll actually go into it even though you can't see that it went into download mode. Then plug in usb and hopefully Odin will recognize that you're in download mode and you'll be able to flash stock rom lol

Correct me if I'm wrong, after the combo press to get into download mode, don't you have to press either Vol Up or Vol Dn to continue into download mode? If so which one?

Search around on here for warranty replacements. I've read a few threads where people have hard bricked and returned to AT&T for warranty replacements. One thing to keep in mind tho, if they were to look into and see that it was because you were modifying your device, after a few weeks you would have a fat 600$ charge on your bill.. I'm not saying its out of the question. Just read a lot and see what other peoples results were first!

Yeah, not to make the OP feel bad ( I feel your pain, really) but this should be a warning to all new flashers (myself included).
The International uses a quad core processor, and the AT&T uses a dual core. Not even close to being the same hardware and flashing the wrong rom is an invitation for disaster. This is not the first instance of this I have read either.
I know there is a tendency to say peeps need to watch what they're doing, but a big warning label would be nice, since the S3 comes in 2 hardware flavors.
I hope you get this worked out with a jig. I have read you can rig one up yourself if you're handy, but I have not seen the instructions to do so.
If you can get back in, I can personally verify that this rom flashes back to stock unrooted. Be sure to clear your cache too.

a big warning label (bigger than what they already post) is not necessary, nor is it the devs responsibility to baby-proof everything. if you find yourself hunting around the internet on 12 different sites, looking for rooting guides and roms for the S3, you're wrong. stick to one place, like xda. know your model number, make sure you're in the right forum, read over the kernel/rom page to ensure you're flashing the files meant for your device.
a "big warning label" would only be encouraging the large amount of spoon-feeding that so many (noobs and lazy peeps) on this forum already expect and somebody would still flash the wrong file like an idiot.
cheers

I see you joined back in November. How'd you get so wise so fast?
No, I agree that it not the devs responsibility to make sure no one makes a mistake, still, for a phone that comes with 2 different mainboards, it might be a courtesy, just in case the user has misplaced one of the half dozen or so tabs he/she has open in their browser after power surfing for an hour. The OP made a mistake. It happens. Calling him (or me) an idiot or lazy, is neither helpful, or polite.
cheers right back atcha!

Looks like my phone broke

Well my phone won't respond to my touch at all. Everything does work, I thought it was the rom but I went into recovery but it just won't do anything when I touch it. The volume buttons work. This is so odd, never had this problem with any of my old phones. It could be the digiziter... As of now I'm going to try a few things, pull the battery for a few minutes, factory reset, install another rom. Oh yeah I'm running cm10.1 yesterday's build I belief. So guys any ideas? Tips? Suggestions? Also how could this happen? I didn't drop it last night. It was working fine expect it had to signal because I was in a basement.
Wow the oddest thing just happened. I took the battery off right, well I put it back in and turned the phone in. I unlock the phone which got me excited obviously, but shortly after it stopped working. This had to be a rom issue or damaged digiziter....
What the hell...I haven't installed or factory reset because the phone was charging. Didn't want to mess with low battery. Well I plugged it into my computer. And guess what? It effing worked! Now the touchscreen works. This is making me scratch my head. What the hell happened? How did connecting it into the computer fixed the computer? You guys have any ideas?
Phone is slowly dying, not a rom issue I don't think. Change the rom just in case to find out. Also Google the issue, it shouldn't be just this phone kinda bug.

I'd Odin back to Stock, root66. This way you can completely eliminate a rom, mod, kernel, etc. Run purely stock for a day or two at least and you will have a better idea as to the cause.

This is quite interesting indeed. A similar ordeal kept happening when I was still on stock Touchwiz Rom. It's what forced me to look for alternative roms. I haven't had the unresponsive touchscreen ever since, so I'm interested in finding out if switching roms will solve your problem as well.

I've had a problem like this with my last two phones, both being Samsung. My phone prior to the sgs3 was the nexus s. About a year in it started randomly opening apps and pulling open the power menu. I thought it might just be the rom or battery went back to stock and got a new battery and it still continued.. So i finally upgraded to the sgs3. I just started having the same problem on my gs3. It would open the power menu and it would randomly open apps and type on the keyboard. I reverted to stock and it seemed to fix the problem on this phone. It's weird though, it's happened on both of my latest devices.
Thats just weird to me. This is the first ive ever heard of this happening on our GS3's. Hopefully its all just corrupted software or something related and a clean Odin flash will fix it.

How Do I Unroot Or Fix My GPS?

Flashed my AT&T White S3 with CWM 6.0.4.7 about 6 months ago. Always had problems with the GPS working sometimes and other times it finds about the location I'm at but the blue circle is about 20 miles in diameter. Sometimes once it would find me then it would no longer track me down on roads. So I'd really love to fix this issue where I can actually use Maps and not get lost with it. The GPS and everything was working fine till I flashed it. Idk if I went wrong down the road because I tried a bunch of different things when flashing. I tried cyanogenmod, but didn't care for it and reverted back to the stock att/samsung version. Tonight I was trying to unroot and completely go back to stock like a brand new phone but can't seem to figure out how to do that. I flashed using this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486. Still having those GPS issues. No clue why. So can anyone help me fix this GPS issue or completely unroot and put my phone back how it was when I took it out the box?

Sorry for posting in the wrong section! Although I might add that it seems that if I keep the stock version of Google Maps it can locate me perfectly and area is small. If I update, however, that's when the blue circle becomes huge!
GPS fix
This worked for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880810
There are also many threads about loose screws on the back of the phone and tightening them fixed the gps
Loose screws have never been an issue on the T-Mobile S3. Its very closely related to the I747 and uses the same inner casing, unlike Sprint and Verizon models. The best fix I know is linked in the sticky rollup thread in T-Mobile Q&A. Ill post the link in a moment. Seems a lot of AT&T users are needing it recently. You may have a similar thread here, but im not positive.

Thanks for the help, I don't have the srewedrivers to fit those tiny screws. I used to but I lost it Although I don't think that's the issue. The GPS works fine. I was using it at work after I tried what the other guy said, it worked fine until I got home and as I'm sitting at my computer it has the big 1 mile blue circle. After about 10 mins though it pinpointed me than went back to the big 1 mile circle. However, if I use the stock version of Google Maps, it pinpoints me damn near exactly where I am. So it has to be the app or something. I'd hate to keep it stock, for one it show up in my list of apps to update and the updated version might have better roads and stuff. Idk how to fix this
Did you try the gps fix I linked to? Never caused anyone problems so it cant hurt to try..

[Q] [q] sgh-t989 only recognized by pc as "qhsusb_dload"

FLASHED A ROM THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR SGH-T989 THAT CAME FROM MAX LEE [MENTION=4570321]galaxys2rootcom. IT WAS,http://mirror31.downloadandroidrom.com/download/GalaxyS2TMobile/roms/DirtyUnicorns/du_hercules-4.4.2-by_soundsofmath-OC-20140308-0422av2.zip?token=554090288. SOON AS TWRP WENT TO INSTALL I FOUND MYSELF BRICKED BAD AS IVE EVER SEEN, I CONSIDER MYSELF PRETTY SAVVY WITH MY TRUSTY S2, IVE HAD MANY, SCREWED UP PLENTY, AND BEEN THROUGH ABOUT AS MANY SCENARIOS AS POSSIBLE, OR SO I THOUGHT UNTIL THIS LITTLE INCIDENT, AND I'M NOT FINDING MUCH COMFORT IN THE FACT THAT THIS IS THE ONLY PROBLEM I'VE EXPERIENCED THAT WASN'T MY OWN DOING... I WILL SAY THAT GALAXYS2ROOT.COM HAS BEEN VERY SOLID FOR DOWNLOADS WHEN OTHER RESOURCES HAVE NOT, I WILL ALSO SAY THAT I PERSONALLY HAVE HAD ZERO LUCK WITH ANY DIRTY UNICORNS UPLOADS NO MATTER WHERE THEY COME FROM PARTICULARLY FROM GOO.IM. BUT WHATS NEW THERE? NOT SURE WHO CREDIT FOR THIS PROBLEM GOES TO DIRTY UNICORNS, OR MAX LEE, BUT EITHER WAY BEWARE OF THIS ROM IT WAS POSTED IN MAY OF 2014 AND IT IS LETHAL! BACK TO THE ISSUE..... PHONE DOES NOTHING AT ALL IT WAS 100% CHARGED WHEN FLASH BEGAN SO BATTERY IS OF NO CONSEQUENCE. NO VIBRATE, NO BEEP, NO SAMSUNG FLASH, NO ABILITY TO ENTER DOWNLOAD MODE, NOTHING, EXCEPT, IF YOU PLUG TO COMPUTER YOU GET A "UNRECOGNIZED DEVICE" FROM DEVICE MANAGER, THEN IF YOU HOLD POWER, OR VOLUME UP, DOWN, AND POWER, YOU GET A STORAGE DEVICE NOTIFICATION WITH THE NAME "QHSUSB_DLOAD". I HAVE SEEN, AND CALLED MY S2 MANY THINGS BUT NEVER THIS. IF PC CAN RECOGNIZE THAT SOMETHING JUST GOT PLUGGED IN, THEN I AM LED TO BELIEVE THAT I'M NOT TOTALLY BRICKED, BUT DAMN NEAR IT. SO FINALLY MY QUESTION IS .....DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE JUMPED WITH USB JIG CABLE, OR SOME OTHER METHOD?? I HAVE LOOKED, THERE ARE 2 OTHER THREADS MENTIONING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, ONE GUY WITH THE PROBLEM DID NOT GET FAR DUE TO A KIND OF VAGUE DISCRIPTION OF HIS PROBLEM, SO ALL HE GOT WAS INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO ENTER DOWNLOAD MODE WHICH IS NOT BY ANY MEANS MY PROBLEM I AM WELL VERSED IN THAT OPERATION, SO THIS IS THE REASON FOR THE LENGTHY QUESTION..THE OTHER GUY GOT ADVISED TO DEFRAUD SAMSUNG BY DISGUISING ISSUE AS A BATTERY MALFUNCTION AND HE WAS KIND ENOUGH TO UPDATE THE THREAD AND REVEAL THAT HE WAS ABLE TO DOOP THEM OUT OF A NEW PHONE AT NO COST TO HIM, AT WHICH TIME THE MODERATOR JUMPED HIS **** ...UNDERSTANDABLY, WHICH LED TO NO USEFUL, OR LEGAL ANSWER FOR ME. SO IF ANYONE CAN LEND A HAND HERE PLEASE DO I WILL BE SUPER GRATEFUL, AND THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY INPUT TOWARD THE ISSUE.:

[Q] Noise coming from the back of the phone

Hi guys.
I own a G3 32GB International/Unlocked from about a week or so. At first I ran the 4.4.2 stock firmware, until two days ago I was prompted to install the v20e lolipop update, stock too. At first it seemed a bit laggy, especially in the home screen. Yesterday I performed a factory reset, and so far, with half of the apps I used to have, it seems to be working a bit better, hopefully. [That's a brief intro just in case, lol]
So, onto the matter. A couple of hours ago I noticed some static noise coming from the back of my phone, mainly around the power/volume buttons. I hear it when I bring the phone close to my ear, otherwise I don't. When the screen is off, it's either way too quiet, gone at all, or there's a slight repetative clicking sound(maybe from the camera but I kind of doubt that). But my main concerns are when the screen is on - that's when the noise is louder and constant(still have to bring my phone to the ear to hear it, though). Furthermore, whenever I do something on the screen - i.e. sliding, opening an app, etc. - I start hearing this "working mechanism" sound(I couldn't think of a better way to describe it atm), until I stop doing anything - then it just resumes to the constant static noise. My question is - is this harmful to the device? If so, what do I do? Should I worry about this? Has anyone else experienced this "working mechanism" sound when using the phone? What have they done to fix it, if they have?
P.S. - The last thing I remember doing before I noticed the noises is copying most of my old photos and music from my PC to the internal storage. Around 1-2 gigs.
P.P.S. - The sound sliiiiightly resembles a hard drive I think.

I'm having the same issues!
I have a very sensitive ear so my LG G3 is giving me a headache at the moment.
My phone is brand new--it has been out of the box for a few days, got a full charge, was activated/powered on Dec. 24th at around 11:30pm. So it's been in use less than 2 days. I have hardly any software/apps aside from stock installed at the moment.
I did install two apps this morning before the noise started, so they might be the main cause.
The sound is very much like a tiny hard drive, so I'm thinking maybe one or both of the new apps are running in the background and beating up the poor phone. Just not sure if this is normal for the G3 or not?
Right now I'm having trouble putting up with the sound while typing so I hope there is a way to quiet it down
Hope this helps. I owned my g3 for a few months now. When i first got it. Ive heard the noise. It dosent bother me tho. But that sounds like the cpu going. Then again coud be the ssd. So far i have not had any issues with the phone

Nope. All's running good so far, God bless. Guess the noise is just the processor working or something like that, it's still here.

Highly unlikely it's the processor.
What it could be is a loose capacitor. If it became unsoldered or if it lost some of the soldering, it can vibrate under stress and create noise. See with other G3 phones, if you don't hear it on others - send yours in for warranty repairs.

been meaning to update this. my g3 died lol but it was not the cpu. some reason my antenna went bad. phone still worked with wifi. i got a new g3 via worrenty replacement new phone has the noise.
as for your answer yes the phone was working fine. as for the antenna went bad i think i know what caused it. just keep your phone away from strong magnets. my laptop has a few of those cause itwas working an hour ago when i tried to use it
