[Q] [q] sgh-t989 only recognized by pc as "qhsusb_dload" - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

FLASHED A ROM THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR SGH-T989 THAT CAME FROM MAX LEE [MENTION=4570321]galaxys2rootcom. IT WAS,http://mirror31.downloadandroidrom.com/download/GalaxyS2TMobile/roms/DirtyUnicorns/du_hercules-4.4.2-by_soundsofmath-OC-20140308-0422av2.zip?token=554090288. SOON AS TWRP WENT TO INSTALL I FOUND MYSELF BRICKED BAD AS IVE EVER SEEN, I CONSIDER MYSELF PRETTY SAVVY WITH MY TRUSTY S2, IVE HAD MANY, SCREWED UP PLENTY, AND BEEN THROUGH ABOUT AS MANY SCENARIOS AS POSSIBLE, OR SO I THOUGHT UNTIL THIS LITTLE INCIDENT, AND I'M NOT FINDING MUCH COMFORT IN THE FACT THAT THIS IS THE ONLY PROBLEM I'VE EXPERIENCED THAT WASN'T MY OWN DOING... I WILL SAY THAT GALAXYS2ROOT.COM HAS BEEN VERY SOLID FOR DOWNLOADS WHEN OTHER RESOURCES HAVE NOT, I WILL ALSO SAY THAT I PERSONALLY HAVE HAD ZERO LUCK WITH ANY DIRTY UNICORNS UPLOADS NO MATTER WHERE THEY COME FROM PARTICULARLY FROM GOO.IM. BUT WHATS NEW THERE? NOT SURE WHO CREDIT FOR THIS PROBLEM GOES TO DIRTY UNICORNS, OR MAX LEE, BUT EITHER WAY BEWARE OF THIS ROM IT WAS POSTED IN MAY OF 2014 AND IT IS LETHAL! BACK TO THE ISSUE..... PHONE DOES NOTHING AT ALL IT WAS 100% CHARGED WHEN FLASH BEGAN SO BATTERY IS OF NO CONSEQUENCE. NO VIBRATE, NO BEEP, NO SAMSUNG FLASH, NO ABILITY TO ENTER DOWNLOAD MODE, NOTHING, EXCEPT, IF YOU PLUG TO COMPUTER YOU GET A "UNRECOGNIZED DEVICE" FROM DEVICE MANAGER, THEN IF YOU HOLD POWER, OR VOLUME UP, DOWN, AND POWER, YOU GET A STORAGE DEVICE NOTIFICATION WITH THE NAME "QHSUSB_DLOAD". I HAVE SEEN, AND CALLED MY S2 MANY THINGS BUT NEVER THIS. IF PC CAN RECOGNIZE THAT SOMETHING JUST GOT PLUGGED IN, THEN I AM LED TO BELIEVE THAT I'M NOT TOTALLY BRICKED, BUT DAMN NEAR IT. SO FINALLY MY QUESTION IS .....DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE JUMPED WITH USB JIG CABLE, OR SOME OTHER METHOD?? I HAVE LOOKED, THERE ARE 2 OTHER THREADS MENTIONING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, ONE GUY WITH THE PROBLEM DID NOT GET FAR DUE TO A KIND OF VAGUE DISCRIPTION OF HIS PROBLEM, SO ALL HE GOT WAS INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO ENTER DOWNLOAD MODE WHICH IS NOT BY ANY MEANS MY PROBLEM I AM WELL VERSED IN THAT OPERATION, SO THIS IS THE REASON FOR THE LENGTHY QUESTION..THE OTHER GUY GOT ADVISED TO DEFRAUD SAMSUNG BY DISGUISING ISSUE AS A BATTERY MALFUNCTION AND HE WAS KIND ENOUGH TO UPDATE THE THREAD AND REVEAL THAT HE WAS ABLE TO DOOP THEM OUT OF A NEW PHONE AT NO COST TO HIM, AT WHICH TIME THE MODERATOR JUMPED HIS **** ...UNDERSTANDABLY, WHICH LED TO NO USEFUL, OR LEGAL ANSWER FOR ME. SO IF ANYONE CAN LEND A HAND HERE PLEASE DO I WILL BE SUPER GRATEFUL, AND THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY INPUT TOWARD THE ISSUE.:

There's a thread about this in the general section "debrick image" seems there's no fix other than jtag. Wow what a long post

yup felt the need

You're bricked. JTAG or a service center is your only hope.

Said in other thread....but please....go easy on the caps.
And the wise decision is always sticking to XDA posted ROMs, by reputable devs. Anyone can make a ROM, post it somewhere... And it turns out its broken. But not here. Roms need to work to be posted.

thanks and sorry

Why cant you boot it into download mode via ADB and flash is back to stock with ODIN?
Wrong section to post a question in... Sorry to say but you're screwed like everyone else that did the same as you and posted the same topic a hundred times... Best bet is to try and get a warranty or ins change and tell them it just stopped working.. Good luck

Happen to me...i bought a USB jig, because i could not boot into download mode...it did not work. so j tried everything under the sun and i sent it back to T-Mobile and told them that it just went out and they sent me another for 5$ because i had insurance. since the phone would not boot with the jig they could not see that i had rooted it..
It's been posted before, if you flash from the International s2 your screwed! No way around it, feel for you my man.
via my bleached S2
I wouldn't say you fell victim to being bricked. More like you failed to read the explicit warnings about flashing ROMs from other devices.

The JIG tool will not work in this case. However, for a few bucks you can buy a JTAG tool and for sure you will fix it. However, to be used it's necessary some background to proceed things in a right way..
You can try eBay to find someone that offers the box service to fix your device. So if you don't have choices, I strongly advice you to try one of this options, because for sure the box can figure this problem out.

Any way to get back to stock without USB port/odin?

My phone's USB port is borked...as in not working....I'm running BluKuban with CWM installed. Are there any update.zip files that will get me back to full stock so I can take the phone into the sprint store? I can't use Odin as nothing I plug into the USB port works. But I can use WiFi and Airdroid to get a file over to the phone if I can keep it connected long enough. (I'm using a third party charger with some spare batteries to keep running for now.)
Any help is appreciated.
There is a tutorial somewhere I had to do this as well, mobile odin (paid) and the one click .tar will install. You can start a dropbox and upload your file to there then export to you SD or use Kies...Just an idea, but it works I had to go stock before taking my phone to Sprint for a swap.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vmEmheJnyg&feature=relmfu
Get the .tar's and use mobile odin
BTW wrong forum!
Flash the stock modem of the rom you'll install using cwm then flash the stock .tar with mobile odin. That should do the trick.
Can also flash a stock rom from cwm iirc, dont think there's a stock unrooted zip rom around tho.
Tappin' Typin'
Mobiletechvideos.com can replace the port with a Samsung exact replacement. If it were me and I could afford it, I'd have them replace the power button switch. Yours may work but if it fails in the future, it would save you from sending it in. If sprint tries to make you pay the 100 deductable for a refurb, it's cheaper to go and have that website replace it. Granted you'll be without a phone, hopefully you have a backup of some sort, for a week or so while they're repairing it. It might be easier to get a refurb, but if you get the port and switch replaced on your phone, at least you won't potentially be getting a refurb that isn't 100% fixed from whatever its original problem was.
---------- Post added at 12:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:52 AM ----------
Oh, and be more careful when your phone is plugged in after you get it fixed.
Samsung repair is always an option. You would not have to pay like you would with mobiletechvideos.
If you have an old Sprint phone to use for a week or two I suggest that route. You do have a 1 year warranty.

My local sprint store just did a swap for free (I take it your usb port is non functional), any hardware issues that degrade the use of the phone is covered under manufactures warranty and you should not have to pay for this through Asurion (w.e. it is called). Also I had my phone since launch with an available upgrade, they kept trying to coax me into upgrading and I told them the phones were identical in features (S3 and S2) the lady about had a heart attack trying to explain the differences, I insisted that "it is my upgrade to use at my disposal" and "this phone has all of my needs covered at the moment" after confirming that the USB port failing was a "Known issue", she gladly gave me a new device.
Kind of a pointless post, but so was this entire thread as this has been covered before....every aspect of it the OP, my post, and in regards to it being in the wrong spot...Anyway good luck..
Forgot what I was gonna say that made any sense at all..

Few days ago I just started installing ROMs for the first time on my rooted AT&T S3. Starting with CM10, then JellyBam, and so forth testing/trying out one at a time. I was clearing dalvik and wiping cache before and after installing each ROM. Each ROM worked fine until I finally reached the fourth or fifth ROM called Foxhound and that's when my phone when to crap. I went through the install and after it rebooted my screen went blank and never came back on. Unable to get into CWM or Download Mode, I did battery pull and also plugged via USB into my PC it still won't boot. I read that the USB jig works on the Galaxy S3, already ordered and waiting for it to come in. If that doesn't work then I'm gonna have to send it in for JTAG repair. I already read off another site that someone encountered the same issue and the USB jig didn't work (this is after I already ordered it) so I'm crossing my fingers.
And this is all because of Samsung Allshare Play isn't compatible with CM10 because it works off touchwiz. So I was looking for a touchwiz based ROM and heard about Foxhound. Once I get my phone back up I'm going to try Jedi Invasion ROM as I heard some good reviews.

Lmao I think I might understand. Sometimes even though the screen is black you can still do the button combo for download mode and it'll actually go into it even though you can't see that it went into download mode. Then plug in usb and hopefully Odin will recognize that you're in download mode and you'll be able to flash stock rom lol

Search around on here for warranty replacements. I've read a few threads where people have hard bricked and returned to AT&T for warranty replacements. One thing to keep in mind tho, if they were to look into and see that it was because you were modifying your device, after a few weeks you would have a fat 600$ charge on your bill.. I'm not saying its out of the question. Just read a lot and see what other peoples results were first!

Yeah, not to make the OP feel bad ( I feel your pain, really) but this should be a warning to all new flashers (myself included).
The International uses a quad core processor, and the AT&T uses a dual core. Not even close to being the same hardware and flashing the wrong rom is an invitation for disaster. This is not the first instance of this I have read either.
I know there is a tendency to say peeps need to watch what they're doing, but a big warning label would be nice, since the S3 comes in 2 hardware flavors.
I hope you get this worked out with a jig. I have read you can rig one up yourself if you're handy, but I have not seen the instructions to do so.
If you can get back in, I can personally verify that this rom flashes back to stock unrooted. Be sure to clear your cache too.

a big warning label (bigger than what they already post) is not necessary, nor is it the devs responsibility to baby-proof everything. if you find yourself hunting around the internet on 12 different sites, looking for rooting guides and roms for the S3, you're wrong. stick to one place, like xda. know your model number, make sure you're in the right forum, read over the kernel/rom page to ensure you're flashing the files meant for your device.
a "big warning label" would only be encouraging the large amount of spoon-feeding that so many (noobs and lazy peeps) on this forum already expect and somebody would still flash the wrong file like an idiot.
cheers

I see you joined back in November. How'd you get so wise so fast?
No, I agree that it not the devs responsibility to make sure no one makes a mistake, still, for a phone that comes with 2 different mainboards, it might be a courtesy, just in case the user has misplaced one of the half dozen or so tabs he/she has open in their browser after power surfing for an hour. The OP made a mistake. It happens. Calling him (or me) an idiot or lazy, is neither helpful, or polite.
cheers right back atcha!

[Q] Hard Brick Sprint GS3

Okay, I have seen many post on hard brick and also seen the many suggestions. Tried all but it seems that I just have to bite the bullet and turn it in to either Sprint or Samsung. I loaded a international rootbox mod and hard bricked my phone. It recognize by my pc by the usb connection and assigning a com port. It dose not load the flash drives though. Odin dose not recognize the usb connection. I tried qubking777 methods(which seem to be used for only soft bricking), tried to put it every mode possible, and even removed the sd/battery then connect to usb. It gets a red led light for about a couple minutes but nothing in trying to flash via Odin. If anyone has anything new that I can try without jig/Jtag would be helpful. I have been claim to be a noobie at this from friend at work and know that the pc world is different from the smartphone world but some of the concepts are the same. That if you think the same way as I do. So please no crazy remarks that is any demeaning ways. I do have some experience with root and mods when I did this HTC EVO original.
Thanks
Its done the only way to fix is JTAG if you don't want to go through Samsung or sprint which would be insurance fraud anyway

I've seen people report that they work. Never tried it myself, but thats just my 2 cents
@OP............have you read the numerous stickies, questions, threads, posts about what to flash and what not to flash? kennyglass123 and numerous others have made sticky threads about how to get started, what to do and not do after you root
Cmon dude, even though they may have the same name doesnt mean that software-wise theyre the same
I have an EVO 4G and an EVO shift 4G, but i dont go flashing roms between the two just because theyre similar
When you're doing this kind of system level, you need to know what you're getting yourself into, in the end you couldve just asked in the thread if it works for the sprint s3 or <insert carrier here> s3, and you wouldve gotten a "no"

The mentioning of me doing things to the EVO and talking about the same thing was saying that I am reading and not jumping into stuff i do not know about when working with the S3. Yes they have different ways of rooting and flashing what not but the technology and concepts are the same. The only thing have jumped into over my head was that I grabbed the international load of rootbox mod because there was no clear indication what mod was what from their website. Once I loaded that and reboot, now I am a bricked. I am just trying to see if there anything that I haven't tried yet. It seems that I have indications that the phone has not gone to far and I can do something. Maybe something that works the with bootloader to get it to a point to clear and flash a restore..
The technology is not the same either
The international version is GSM while the sprint variant is cdma, the international version is quadcore while the sprint one is not
Software wise, the partitions line up, but incorrectly
The boot partition on the sprint variant lines up with the misc partition on the international, and a couple other partitions line up incorrectly as well

Phones completely done dude. You can't do anything to recover it without getting it jtagged. You have no boot loader the partition for the kernel on the international S3 is the partition where our boot loader is stored so when you flashed that international rom it wiped your boot loader and wiped other important partitions

Thank you for pointing this out. The OP also gets defensive when it's pointed out. He uses all the wrong stuff but when he breaks it he finds the right section to seek help. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
he claims he is reading and not jumping into things, I guess he skipped over the word INTERNATIONAL as opposed to the one on this section SPRINT.
OP and as you wrote "please no crazy remarks" this and the others are not crazy it's just amazing how you did not find the right section to begin with but had no problem finding it now that you messed it up?

So you guys want defensively. You getting it. Believe it or not, technology is blending together. I have background in IT field to see the history of it all for almost the last 20 yrs. Yes different manfactor and carriers define these phones but that is the only thing that seperate these from computer is the phone portion. Yes I have been following this fourm for a while which lead me to the rootbox mod page in the first place and known where to paste certain threads. I don't even know why I thought there was some very intelligent people on here that are nothing but very disrespecting when someone is looking for just the slightest information. If any one wants a extra check by there chuck wagon meter, please point me in the right direction. Can't believe that I posted any thing here after seeing this stuff in other post. THANKS EVERYONE!
Johnboy you have to understand we get three or four of these every week from people who do not read and just flash away. They find a rom on the international thread and flash it. Voilà 600 dollar paperweight. Then they do fraud and claim hey don't know why their device doesn't work. Who pays all of us with the continued rise in cost on our device.
It's funny though how every single one of them find their way to the right place and forum when they mess-up their phone. Amazingly!

Like my mamma always said. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say nothin! For some reason, i hear it in a southern accent. Even though I'm from upstate NY. These posts will never end. And insurance fraud claims will never end. Either way, the cost of our phones will rise.

Thanks edfunkycold, I do understand that this get a little redundant. This is not going to get me to swallow on a bone head move. It is determination to find a solution and help find a end this repeated cycle for everyone. Seeing other threads the phone dose respond to get a port assignment and is requesting for a driver install. So that is some of good sign. Everyone keep your eyes and ears open and I will be back with something. lol
Kudos to you Johnboy for powering on to find a solution. Good luck to you.

I'm going to save some time and update your status for you. As you'd see this imformation if you searched...
The drivers its requesting is the "QHSUSB_DLOAD" driver. Its basically a piece of hardware waiting for firmware to be loaded at a factory level. You will not talk to it with any software you currently own, hence the jtag requirement. Spent months hoping to do the same. You won't I promise. If I'm not mistaken even Samsung doesn't fix it in the state its in. I believe they send it to qualcomm, could be mistaken there tho so don't quote me on that. And props to edfunkycold for telling it like it is. Needs to be said and youll probably recieve an infraction now for not holding his hand and telling him it will be okay. Telling people the truth tends to get you in trouble on here.
I know that I am going to get plenty of flack for this but after a week in working this issue. I had given up and turn it in for new. Even after building a jig that did not do anything at all. I know the jig works because it sent the new phone into download mode immediately but it did not reset the flash counter. Sorry for not finding a fix or even had to turn my phone in. In my field it takes breaking something to make sure you never do it again. So now I know not do flash anything for the GS3 I9300 for the the Sprint model.

Man, you are wasting your time, get the damn thing JTAG, period. If you are looking for a free fix, it AIN'T happening....the international rom hard bricked...period.
BTW, being an IT guy, you should have known to read before applying....you are more knowledgeable than some of the noobs. And by your negative responses, it is for sure a tech reply!

IF ANYONE EVER GETS THIS IN DEVICE MANAGER......"QHSUSB_DLOAD"...it is hosed. Pay the 60.00 and get it over with.

S2 with 2.36 and attempting to update

Note: Please put in correct thread if i posted in wrong one.
I think i'm screwed, but if there is anyplace someone might be able to pull a rabbit out of the hat would be here...
I was attemping to "help" someone today and it didnt go good, hopefully someone will be able to do something because i think i killed this person's phone.
They had 2.36 not rooted or anything. I tried to update to get phone to IC 4.04 but it kept saying no firmware. So after several attempts i said i will just fix it up like mine. (I'm using 4.12) but first i had to get the phone into recovery and rooted.
I went and put the phone in download phone, started odin 3 1.85 and got the comport and flashed the following PIT file, which is what i think i used on my phone 2 years ago to root it. u1_02_20110310_emmc_ext4.pit In options i left the defaults. Repartition, Auto Reboot, and F Reset time all checked. No other settings in Odin. I went and did the load and rebooted. Upon rebooting there is no display, no nothing.
Pulled Battery 100 times, power/volupdown reset, but no luck.. The phone doesnt do anything at all. When i insert the usb cable i hear it beep showing it sees the cable, but no matter what, there is no display.
HELP! -- Here i try to help someone and now i cost them there phone. I already said there is a 999.99% chance it's dead for good.
Usually when you mess up, the phone boots and displays "something" but this time without a display this doesnt appear to be good
I think the problem was with "repartition" checked in Odin. Usually I leave that unchecked. You can save th device though. You'll have to jtag it back to life. Do a Google search for J tag t mobile samsung galaxy s2 and either get the tag yourself, if you have the expertise, or send it away for a small sum and someone will fix it for you
Here's a link to a service that I heard was reputable. there's others that are cheaper. Good luck, hope I helped =)

Is this the only way? I guess 50 isnt too bad. Was the problem cause the repartition was selected?

Unfortunately yes, the T989 should not be reparationed with Odin. That pit file is for the international version (I9100). That is not good bro. Hopefully someone could chime in with something?

I was trying to help someone out and said 'this is pretty easy, let me just gather the files.."
I never really liked the odin process, always made me nervous a bit. once it's in recovery, it's simple but this initial first step... oh well if i dont hear anything else, i will contact those people and send it.
Thanks.
Should of been a PDA file not a pit file and shouldn't of checked repartition.

Fyi for stock non rooted updates for samsung phones always check samsung kies, especially if your not planning on custom roms

with the SGS2 Toolkit, isntalling a custom recovery and gaining root is easy as pie. It pretty much does everything for you. Hope you can fix your buddy's phone.
You might also try and order the usb jig from eBay (don't have the link, sorry) for a few bucks. It will force download mode and you can odin flash it with the stock ICS/GB firmware. It should work I assume (please somebody correct me if I'm wrong) and you will spare the $50.

But it cant force download mode on a phone without any display i dont think. That's only for a pseudo bricked phone that has the samsung logo etc.. We are just going to send it for the 50.00, im not paying out of my pocket, our company will pay though.

The funny thing about this is i tried this first but i was getting error 404 (the page doesnt exist) for some reason when tried to download the missing components (not sure what because i already had ADB and all the samsung drivers on the PC. but when it didnt work, i just went and tried to do it quickly while on the phone and not really paying attention, which doesnt work like that... laugh... I've flashed rom's as i was driving home from work twice (another dangerous stunt, for a completely different reason)...
yeah, maybe the site was down for a bit. I just know I've used it a couple of times before and it made my life really easy, lol. and yeah, I've flashed roms driving home from work also! definitely not a great idea lol

I did that this morning!
Repartition, killed the phone. well it deleted your "boot information". Jtag works from the the repair guys mentioned earlier in the post but i should mention that 50 dollars does get the job done, however, it takes about a week. give it a shot. They brought my phone back to life after i accidentally Repartitioned it through ODIN. Good Luck.

Dont waste your time buying the JIG if your phone is hard bricked like in this case. It will not work. Trust me. I bricked my phone the exact same way the OP did and purchased a USB JIG in hopes of getting into download mode, but that does not work.
