I may be mistaken, but I feel like, since flashing the ROM, my led is like x100 brighter, even on the lowest setting...

Couple of things i've noticed....
First, does the notification LED have a mind completely of its own?? I get a voicemail...and the light flashes...then 2 minutes later get another voicemail and nothing.
Got an SMS, nothing showed...got another, nothing showed, just got one now and it starts flashing at me.
Secondly, when i've received an SMS, i've gone into messaging app...and the screen dimmed and came back again quickly, so i clicked on settings and it dimmed completely like an LCD with no backlight, exit settings and it comes back again, go back into settings and it goes etc etc. Lock screen, unlock and it works fine...bit weird.
The most annoying one is definitely the useless notication LED because...if i'm sat at my desk listening to music rather loud and i cant hear a notification because of the quiet speaker, or i'm away when a message arrives...i don't know i've got it because it isn't flashing.
Y U not use the search engine?
There are multiple threads about this 'problem' and the only useful advise is always: https://market.android.com/details?...29uc3VsdGluZy5hbmRyb2lkLmxpZ2h0Zmxvd2xpdGUiXQ..
Y U not read?
I'm not bothered about colours or customising the LED, i'm quite happy with the white flash, i'm also well aware of lightflow and there's reasons why i wont use it.
the problem is the sheer randomness of the standard notification LED randomly deciding to flash or not flash based on...absolutely nothing

I have had several phones with notification LED and this one is the only one that doesn't work correctly. Hopefullly the boneheads in the LED department over at Google can fix this. By the time they do, we will probably be able to choose from several ICS phones.
On a $700 phone, why do you need to download a 3rd party app to make one of the phones features work ?

This $700 phone has more problems than the $500 Galaxy S2 it seems. ICS is good, but hardware problems are starting to outweigh the benefits in my opinion. We need to keep downloading apps to manage these little things like the notification light, battery usage, volume problems (which the apps around still cause friction with ICS) etc.
This is my first Nexus and when I went into Vodaphone the other day the man at the store admired my phone. Then proceeded to tell me Nexus have always had little problems surrounding the hardware and software of the phones, the quality control isn't as good as the Galaxy S range. I'm starting to get that feeling too.
Well considering the galaxy s and s2 had their share of problems and the last two nexus are Samsung phones I find that trivial. I'm not having a lot of the problems people are having and my battery life is great, especially considering 4.65" amoled screen. Maybe apples don't fall far from the tree.

so has nobody at all had the weird dimming screen thing?
The notification LED was working fine with the stock ROM. After flashing to AOKP milestone 3 and then b25, it stopped working (for both versions). Missed calls, emails and sms don't trigger the LED. I tried light flow lite to test it too and it didn't work.
I did a data wipe/cleared cache before each flash. Nothing important on the phone at the moment as its brand new.
Any ideas or known bugs with the custom ROM's with the LED?
update: flashed back to google stock rom, installed both led tester and light flow, LED still doesn't work

LED should work on stock ROM. I haven't had any issues with the LED on the stock ROM for the last two months.
If the LED has stopped working on the stock ROM, I'd be inclined to suggest a possible hardware issue.
The only variation I've seen is twitter uses green on the LED light. Perhaps see if any of the other variation of colors on the LED appear other than the standard white/multi color?
The other route I'd take to test would be to figure out the sysfs control files for the LED and test through echo'n values there.
Hope that helps give a few more suggestions!

how do i echo the values there? meanwhile, im still searching the control file for the LED.
i have flashed back to stock rom + locked bootloader.
nothing i do seems to work, i guess it is a hardware issue. anyone else experience the same thing? how is it that the LED just stops working? i'm starting to wonder if the 3 metal contacts (i think its for the dock), if touched, can cause the LED to die.
have you tried lightflow?

yes i have tried lightflow on various roms. none of them worked.
Make sure you turned it on in the Display settings; "Pulse notification light".

The LED notification on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus is shaky at best.
I mainly get notifications for Gmail and Google Voice texts. It seems as if it only sometimes actually work. It seems worse for the Gmail notifications, but there are many times that I pick up my phone and see that I have an email when there is no LED blinking.
I'm not sure if it just never came on or if it stops after a period of time, but what the heck is up with the LED? Why bother putting something on the phone as a feature and not having it work correctly.
I'm currently on a custom JB ROM, but it has only worked very inconsistently at stock on ICS and any of the other ROMs I've tried.
**** And yes, I know about Lightflow, but don't think we should have to use a 3rd party app to enable something that should already be working.

I am very new to my galaxy nexus but I've noticed that the LED basically only blinks for GT/whatsapp messages while for other apps/missed calls/sms it only blinks once at its very best, that's why I kind of forced myself to use lightflow. There are some custom JB roms like Liquid Jelly Bean that offer advanced LED management, you might want to try those.

Thanks!
I think I also read that the free version of LightFlow doesn't support Google Voice which is one of the main 2 notifications I get.
It's just very surprising that this feature of the phone works so poorly. And even more surprising that there aren't more people making noise about it.

I had the same problem, and I still think that LED notification isn't as good as what it should be...
If you have a custom JB ROM, I think your best option is to look for a CM10 rom, because in the screen settings, you can change the behaviour of the LED with different apps.
Whats up guys...tried posting in the forum I wanted but I guess ima "noob"...anyways I'm running wicked v5 with trinity kernel...I've also tried ktoonsez which I think is an awesome kernel by the way...only reason I switched was to test this...anyways with either kernel I'm having trouble with vibrations...they start out nice and strong but after awhile it gets to the point where I can barely feel anything at all...I'm talking about the soft keys (menu and back buttons), and the keyboard...If restart my phone the vibrations are nice and strong but after maybe couple of hours I'll barely be able to feel it...I even go into settings and go into haptic feedback and raise the vibration level and the same thing still happens...even with ktoonsez kernel where u can open up ktweaker and increase vibration intensity to 126, I do and the same thing happens...is this a something that has to do with the kernel, Rom or my phone?...am I doing something wrong or are there there's experiencing this?
I have a question regarding notification lights, I'm running CM10 with the stock CM kernel.
I came across the custom notification light feature, which is very useful. I currently have 4 colours set for 4 different apps. They work great, but the issue I have is multiple notifications. If I get say, a red notification, and then a blue one, only the red shows. Is there any way to have them alternate or is this an OS / kernel limitation?
I purchased LightFlow a while back for another phone, and have tried on this phone and it does it, but I'm not sure what phone performance/battery is like with it turned on, so if there's a way to do it natively in the OS I'd prefer that method of course.
Anyone know if this is possible without a 3rd party app?
i wouldnt mind knowing this as well... since lightflow i cannot use until the battery drain issue is resolved ...
so far i have not found a way at all... i dont think there is... which is succky
