Takes 3 to 4 seconds to sleep after pressing sleep/wake button.. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

This started happening 4 or 5 days ago and I thought it would just fix itself but nothing yet.. When I press my sleep button most of the time it takes me to my lock screen before the screen going black but showing the clock and then it will cut off. Or sometimes it will just take 3 or 4 seconds before turning the screen off. It doesn't have any trouble waking up though. This afternoon I replied to a text message and then just left the conversation screen open and went to sleep the phone, it went to the lock screen but just stayed there and it was showing the time on the status bar, something it doesn't show when I'm on the lock screen. I pressed the button again and it was like the screen was off because it showed the normal screen. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I'm stock rooted, and it hadn't been doing this a week ago.. Thanks in advance

sounds like sleep lag...you might try to reboot it couple times

When I first noticed it happening I rebooted a few times and now I've rebooted almost once a day. Do I need to do multiple reboots one after the other?

I would wipe it and start over.

I did the reboot and just left it, it doesn't lag every time I sleep it now, but it still does sometimes.. Haven't tried wiping it yet, would a complete wipe really help?

Yes, it would help. Could have a rouge app somewhere. It socks having to start over, but your not the only one considering it. May have to do so as well as I keep getting wake locks in stand by mode and unless I reset it, I lose mucho battery life.

Fix the wake locks instead of resetting the phone. That's the smart way to do it.

Lock screen gone

Usually after pressing the power button the pink lock screen from tmobile would show up. But today after pressing the button to unlock the phone theres no lock screen, it just goes straight to the homescreeen. I tried putting a password and it still doesnt bring up the lock screen. Has this happened to anyone else?

This is still an issue after a restart?
that would have been normal on CM7 if you disabled lock screen
but on TW... it's rather unusual, specially when we still have no root
can you try installing super user meanwhile you are at it?

Also, theres another problem. When I hold the power button the phone shuts off automatically instead of the menu asking you want to turn of the phone.

This definitely sounds like a faulty phone, I would return it. These options are normally present in a CM7 build like allgamer said.
I don't think that it is a faulty phone. Watch the review by Mobile Syrup and the lock screen on their phone is gone to.
mine is doing the same no lock screen and phone shuts off as soon as I hold the power button
Edit: just tried setting a lock screen with pin and nothing still hmmm

If and when I get this phone you'll have about 9 lockscreens to choose from and a variety of power options (as well as a ton of other mods and hacks).
Just click on a few of the links in my sig.
Yes I can't wait

how do you do a factory reset?
What will a factory reset erase? Will i have to root again?
This is my problem, I have been using my sim card for like 6 years now and today it just stopped working in my phone..
So I took it out and put it back in , still doesnt work, and right after that happend I realized that my lock screen had ceased functioning which i read is a known issue.
So i lost all my contacts, i will go have to get a new sim tomorrow, still don't know if i should trade the phone is for a new one.
this problem had something to do with the *#0*# command, and and testing the camera while in that menu. i just reflashed the deodexed rom and it was fine.
I had this problem too. I had to do a factory reset to fix the problem.
Here's another thread discussing a potential cause of the issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18702063&postcount=12
There are programs out there to use until then. Right now I'm using Quick Boot and it seems to do the trick just fine.

I'm rooted and used Titanium Backup, and a few other "safe" apps. Then suddenly my screen lock dissapeared. Battery pulls would not restore it and neither would any settings fiddling. When I held the power button down two seconds, it would shut the phone off instead of the usual popup that gives you the option to power down.
The only way I was able to restore it was reset the phone to factory settings. Then I restored via a CW backup (wow CW is awesome)
Anyway is this a common thing? I can't imagine this happening to an iPhone. What could cause this--do I have to erase my phone next time this happens? What a PITA!!!
Did you try the numeric combo which gets you into the phone diagnostics? If so we discovered that the megacam test hoses the lockscreen for some reason.

Bottom keys randomly freezing ?

For the past month or 2 my bottom keys have been randomly freezing for a few seconds at a time. It only happens when I unlock my phone when it has been sitting for a while but not every time . I had posted a thread before but I thought it was my phone itself freezing. Its just the bottom keys. I have wiped my phone, cleared my SD card and USB storage and used the el29 reset root through Odin but its still doing it ? Can someone please help ???
If you're in an application, does it send you back to the home screen or else exit, search, or open the menu of its own accord when the keys are frozen?

What ROM are you running and do you have Kobridge's tweaks installed? If you have Kobridge's tweaks installed they will sometimes cause that.

No it doesn't send me back or anything. The keys are just frozen for a few seconds. If I try and touch them nothing happens . When they unfreeze they light up and its back to normal like nothing was wrong.
Are you talking about the 4 bottom buttons on our phone . They are known to take long to work after you turn on the screen. Only on ics though.

Yeah but it doesn't happen all the time. Sometimesi pull my phone outta my pocket unlock it and boom they are on and working right away. But sometimes they will be frozen for about 4 or 5 seconds . I'd say it happens a few times a day.

Screen turning on automatically?

I noticed that sometimes when I use the power button to turn off my screen, after 1-2secs later, the screen turns back on again automatically on its own. Happened quite a few times Already. Anyone with the same experience?
Haven't seen it happen.
Not seen this personally but there were some occasions when I picked up the phone and the screen was on. I'd assume I'd accidentally pressed the power button when picking it up.
Didbyou enable some options in S-Motion? Some of those options will turn screen on.

It happens mostly after a new app installation. The app is usually a spam and hence it keeps on turning the screen. Try to figure it own by removing apps one by one ever since the problem started.

Yes I think this could happen when "Quick Glance " is enabled. A few days ago, I was cleaning with a cloth the screen of my Note 2 and the screen went on (I haven't pressed accidentally the power button of my phone)
Daniel
No no its not quick glance.. It's almost like my power buttonmay be too ssensitive. And the screen typically turns on just 1-2secs after I turn off the screen manually. Doesn't happen frequently but still about once a day?

Have you installed any app like Pocket Sensor?
I use this amazing app, which can behave like this sometime when anything overshadows the proximity sensor.

I had exactly the same issue and maybe it's coincidence but the issue went away after I disabled Quick Glance. Been over a week now and this used to happen at least once a day.

I have EXACTLY..this problem.. it happens a few times a week to me.. Quite annoying sometimes.
I've been suspecting that its because of a application, namely, Kakao-talk, which is a IM application. I can't really recall my screen turning on suddenly when using any other app, but I will wait and see if it happens outside of Kakaotalk.
If the problem persists, i might hand it in to service...
its quite annoying sometimes. I have heard of other people having the same problem though...
i noticed my my galaxy nexus after updating to 4.2 buring more oil ! than 4.12 and i was wondering why
!!!!
i installed odex and pre rooted on Gnexus forum and now i found why it burns more battery than before !
screen in my phone turn on automatically every 1 minutes and sure it will stay for 15 second to turn off automatically , its bug ! actually i hope it getting fixed
any other guy faced this issue ?
Had this problem occassionally on Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. As far as I recall, this is android bug, sometimes triggered by third party apps. Google 'screen turning on by itself' to find out more.

[Q] Phone won't turn on!

This started about 2 days ago. At first, I was on Liquid smooth ROM and my phone suddenly turned off, and kept ketting pulse vibrations but would never turn on. I could only get into cwm recovery, so i restored to JMTX2 ROM
Today, It happened again. But now, i cannot even get into the CWM recovery. Someone please help!!
as of now, it just pulse vibrates with a blank screen. (it shows "samsung" and then starts vibrating).
How can i fix this?

Yeah my phone has done that once before, but not with Liquid smooth. I remember it just giving me a blank screen with vibrations that didnt stop. I couldn't tell you what caused it or anything but I remember just taking the battery out for awhile, using a different charger (it worked for me), and just letting it stop doing whatever it was doing lol.. It probally went on for like 2 hours or so but I was doing whatever I can to turn it back on. I hope it works for you, just keep messing with it and it should stop eventually. Good luck

From what I've read, sounds like your power button could be stuck.

It was exactly that. I fixed it last night.
Solution: I took a small pin and a small flathead screw driver and picked the edges of power button. eventually it started up again!

T989 turns on then shuts off in a minute or two

Okay so I reverted back to stock 4.1.2 on my tmo galaxy s2 and i ended up with the stuck power button. It wouldnt make it past the bootloader without vibrating and restarting. So i took the phone apart, blew dry around the button (one cause i saw) and also tapped the button against a table (not too hard, also another strategy i saw) and finally i just played around with it. Okay so now the phone will not power on by itself or vibrate and restart constantly, although i am going to replace the power button, as its coming in the mail. But so once all that was done, I factory reset it and now it turns on and says:
-Android is Upgrading
Optimizing app ... of 73
Makes it to about 60, say a minute or so later, then shuts off only to restart the process again. It does not do this when put into download mode or recovery. I even used odin with different stock files. Still the same thing. Has anyone else experienced this? What may be the cause and what could i do to fix it?
No phone...:crying:
