Updated to the latest version, 4ext Recovery Touch v1.0.0.5 RC9
EDIT: No need to rename it now, just download and put on sdcard.
Edited because some people could not get it to work because renaming it was the hardest thing in the world :banghead:
All credits to Madmaxx for this great recovery....
Download PB99IMG.zip and put it on the root of ur sdcard (not in a folder) and then with ur phone off hold volume down + power. ur bootloader will look for the PB99IMG then ask u if u want to update recovery, volume up for YES, it will then ask you to reboot device, volume down for NO. Once its finished u now have 4ext recovery and just use volume buttons to navigate to recovery then press power button to enter recovery. I have tried it myself and it works, its the exact same method to install as Alpharev's hboots via PB99IMG.
Dont forget u must be S-OFF lol
Dont forget to delete it off sdcard once ur done or u will get asked to update everytime u enter bootloader

(Also u can extract the PB99IMG.zip file and flash recovery.img via fastboot commands or android flasher)
phone asks to update, i have to start it with vol-up, but i have a little problem: my vol up button doesn't work, is there any other solution to start?

Hi guys. I tried all the instructions, but the problem persists .... I have PVT4 S OFF .... zip file will be installed through the bootloader but nothing changed and the desire to restart the htc logo .....
not sure what ya mean. the phone shouldnt boot unless u pressed reboot. once u have PB99IMG.zip on ur sdcard, hold volume down + power then bootloader will find PB99IMG and ask update recovery? volume up for yes, once its complete it asks u reboot device? press volume down for no then u will stay in bootloader menu and then press volume down to navigate to recovery n press power button to enter recovery. simples
i have tried it myself coz i wouldnt post it otherwise

When in recovery did u do a full wipe? then reinstall the rom? Also make sure u have partitioned ur sdcard to whatever the dev recommends and have the correct hboot for that rom aswell

I've got a problem which is similiar,
The Desire was rooted once through alpharev, custom romed and used for a couple of days. Afterwards the rom was crap and the user decided to get back to 2.2. I don't know how the user installed 2.2 stock froyo but it was up and running again.
Now Root is wanted again, so i installed CWM 5.0.2.0 through fastboot, i can access CWM but as i select a feature like for example "wipe data/factory reset" or "reboot system now" only the background of CWM persists and the blue menu vanishes.
Returning to normal mode just through pulling the battery.

I would recommend 4ext recovery personaly. Anyway download the PB99IMG and rename it to just "PB99IMG.zip" put the PB99IMG.zip on ur sdcard, boot into bootloader (vol down + power) and it will ask to update recovery, vol up for YES then it will ask to reboot device, vol down for NO. Then boot into recovery. Check if the rom is on ur sdcard by selecting install from sdcard. Let me know what it says.
Or u can download a new rom of ur choice by searching Desire Android Development, if u do choose a new rom let me know what coz ul more than likely have to partition sdcard and change hboots.

Thank u for the quick reply. I'll try 4ext instead of cwm, but iam a little bit confused what the difference may be.
Iam familiar with rom installing and sdcard formatting with ext partition for more space, i just cannot install any rom.zip because the recovery doesn't let me access its features.

Cool so u know what ur doing, just flash 4ext recovery, its touch screen and has way more options and its 99.9% better at partitioning ur sdcard than CWM lol, its just better.

Just need the option to wipe data/factory reset the current rom and install the rom i want to use

Hi im trying to install the BCM rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403113) on my htc desire currently running cm7.2, but im a bit confused at this part:
This ROM needs at least 180mb on the /system partition. Best choice would be AplhaRev Data++ as it leaves some space on /data as well.

BCM Rom needs atleast 180mb on system partition so therefor u need to google alpharev (if ur s-off) and flash the downgrade.img then flash the hboot data++(180mb system) for that rom to work, then once u done that, boot into recovery, format all partitions except sdcard then wipe dalvick and install the rom.
Just be sure u have ur sdcard partitioned to whatever the dev requires.

So i would have to download and copy the zips for downgrader and data++ to the root of my sd card, then flash them with cwm. Then do a full wipe, and install the ROM?
Do you have any easier suggestions for a good and stable ICS ROM for the desire. Are sandvold, and nikez lente the same process?
If u use the PB99IMG method u will have to rename it from PB99IMG_downgrade.zip to just PB99IMG.zip then put it on the root of ur sdcard then with ur phone off, hold volume down + power and then bootloader will find PB99IMG and ask u to update. Volume up for yes, the ask to reboot device, volume down for no. Then just repeat the process with the data++ hboot zip. As recommending any ICS or JB roms... Well il have to pass coz im not a fan of them and there problems posted everyday on xda.
Edit: dont worry bout flashing the downgrade, as suggested by eddie, just flash the data++ hboot.

i assume you have not changed hboot before, therefore you are still on stock hboot. as far as i know you should not have to flash the downgrader first, because you do not need to downgrade stock.
therefore just download the PB99IMG_dataplus zip, and rename it to PB99IMG.zip (rename it exactly, case sensitive, and not PB99IMG.zip.zip)
then follow the instructions as jmcclue has already said. you do not flash the zips from recovery...
before you do any of this, please try to understand what the hboot partition tables are first, and why you would want to flash a different hboot: you are simply optimising your internal memory layout (reducing system size, therefore increasing data (internal memory))

ok thanks for the help. Just to double check, is this what i have to do?:
-make nandroid backup of current rom
-copy ICS rom and PB99IMG.zip (data ++) to root of sd card
-hold volume down and power down to boot into hboot
-hboot will find the PB99IMG.zip and ask to update
-press volume up to confirm
-reboot
-reboot into recovery
-do a full wipe
-install ICS rom from zip
When u boot into bootloader and when it asks u to update bootloder (PB99IMG) press volume up for yes. Bootloader will then ask u to reboot, press volume down for No. Then select recovery in the menu using volume down button to navigate, then once recovery is highlighted press power button to enter recovery then full wipe and then flash the rom.

Reflash the recovery in fastboot. Get 4EXT Touch recovery, boot into fastboot and write in cmd
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
u can get latest 4ext tecovery in my sig, just click PB99IMG 4ext recovery and extract the zip file then put recovery.img in ur c:\ drive on ur computer, put ur phone into fastboot (with ur phone off hold back button + power) and plug it into ur computer (so it says "fastboot usb") then open fastboot command window and type -
fastboot erase recovery
(then type)
fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img
or... u could just do it the PB99IMG method, instructions in that link.
ps: next time post problems in desire Q&A

Damn. It's not working - neither ur way, nor the alternative solution.
When i type fastboot flash recovery, the console says "sending recovery <3784 KB>...." and then it freezes. There is a greeen rectangle in the left corner of the smartphone screen, but nothing happens.
When i tried the alternetive way (with recovery.img on sd card) HBOOT hasn't seen the image.
EDIT: I put ZIP on sdcard, HBOOT installed recovery, but it still freezes on HTC logo screen.

1 more thing, Have u got HTC Sync installed? i think that it interfere's with fastboot n that. u only need the drivers installed.
U can get bootloader so it should be fixable, its just nothing is working lol.
The only thing i can think of is going back to s-on :crying:
you would have to flash alpharev downgrader, flash stock hboot and then run the 2.3 upgrade from bootloader. this is last resort so maybe someone can confirm first before trying. if it went well then u can just use revolutionary to gain s-off and instal CWM recovery
i wouldn't mind going on s-on again. But can u do that without ADB mode available?

not 100% sure but u can do it using the PB99IMG method. Basically u have to extract the rom.zip and rename it to PB99IMG.zip, put on ur sdcard then hold volume down + power then bootloader will ask u to update. The same as before. just make sure u flash Alpharev downgrader first. (i know this works as i done it myself 2 month ago)
if u want i can post both downgrader and rom zip files if u want as PB99IMG?
Do u have stock hboot?
i guess stock hboot.
It would be very kind of you if u post both files here - i don't want to download any wrong files....
Thanks again!

What ROM are you using? Did you do anything just before this happened?
The best thing to do is to wipe cache/data bebore re-flashing your rom and it will be fine.
I've done this every time my phone stuck on splash screen.
BTW think about making an NANDROID when your rom is fully and correctly installed, it will avoid some problem in the future

I collected it from a friend stuck to splash screen. I can actually say what happened before it got stuck but my guesses are:
1. It was on stock ROM before it got stuck.
2. It has no recovery on it.

I know seems stupid, but if it sounds unrooted. Try soft reset battery out leave a bit, battery back in switch on reboot. Any luck

Try get recovery using the
PB99IMG 4ext recovery in my sig.
Put the PB99IMG.zip on ur sdcard then boot into bootloader (vol down + power) and bootloader should find the zip and ask to update recovery? Volume up for yes. Then it will ask to reboot? Volume down for no. Then select recovery using volume buttons to navigate and power to select. Once in recovery, format all partitions except sdcard, wipe dalvik. Then u can restore a nandroid backup or just flash a new rom. If u need to flash a new rom then just make sure to partition ur sdcard to what ever the rom OP requires.

The only requirement right now is that the ROM you're running is rooted.
As techniques such as 'data2ext' have been popping up, these might disturb our finely-tuned flashing process.
Please revert to a rooted stock ROM if possible. Your /data partition is used for temporary storage of important files.

Your not meant to flash it via recovery. You flash via the bootloader

I thought the downgrader is just needed for the oxygen hboot? Is it needed if I want to flash from a stock to the CM hboot?

Wouldn't it work with recovery too?

Usually when flashing a hboot, you flash the downgrader first, in case the hboot has some kind of security that doesn't let you overwrite it.
Not all recoverys can flash hboots. You can only flash them by fastboot.

ok so once uv done a nandroid backup, in recovery format all partitions except sdcard (if 4ext) then
put the PB99IMG.zip on ur sdcard (not in a folder) boot into bootloader (volume down + power) bootloader will find the PB99IMG and ask to update? volume UP for yes. it will then ask u to reboot device? volume down for no. then boot back into recovery, format all partitions except sdcard again, reboot recovery, restore nandroid and reboot.

Thanks. Is a downgrade necessary when moving from a stock hboot to CM hboot?

no, because u have stock but once u flash the cm7r2 hboot and lets say u want to flash back to stock hboot or any other hboot, then u will need to flash downgrader first.

Can I transfer a file while the device is in recovery mode after a full format except sd card? Or should I transfer it before hand?

For some reason this process didn't work for me. I did a backup and formatted sdcard except ext and put the file in the sdcard. But when I reboot into bootloader from recovery, it does nothing. The bootloader didn't recognize the file. No idea why.
Maybe, should use the android flasher method.
