I bought myohone a few weeks ago. It had Jelly Bean 4.1.1. I upgraded to the latest stock rooted rom which shows 4.1.1 still. Did tmobile upgrade to 4.1.2 in the last few weeks without me knowing? Is there a completely stock Tom for the note 2; except with root capabilities?
T-Mobile released the 4.1.2 update a few weeks ago. Here is where you can find info on it as week as download links and a tutorial for installation.

thanks for the quick reply. Is it possible to upgrade to the rooted stock version of 4.1.2 from the rooted stock version 4.1.1 (same way you would the non-rooted completely stock ROM)? I really don't want to have to backup all my apps, completely wipe out everything, then put a blank image of the rooted stock 4.1.2.ROM, then restore all my app and settings.
I would obviously prefer a non-destructive upgrade.
Also, I prefer the stock web browser over chrome since flash player doesn't work on it. Do i have to worry about losing the stock web browser in Jelly Bean 4.1.2 or is that only in 4.2.1 that i need to deal with that?

the only way to avoid losing apps is to unroot 4.1.1 then upgrade to 4.1.2 over the air and you will still be able to use install and use flash player in 4.1.2
What do most people do in this case? What if i just reimage it completely and restore my apps with titanium back. Would anything break or lose its settings? Would i end up with Chrome browser or the default browser i currently use? I'm still unsure if 4.1.2 is the ROM that replaces the stock ROM browser or 4.2.x
Can Somone point me to a real tmobile rooted 4.1.2 stock ROM? The only 4.1.2 ROM i can find is teshxx's rom which is port from a non tmobile version (it doesn't have tmobile wifi calling). I've tried googleing a bunch of time but can't find an authentic tmobile 4.1.2 rom that been rooted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102380 there you go download the deodexed

if i were you i would back up apps first then flash rooted 4.1.2 rom through cwn recovery and dont worry you will be able to use default browser in 4.1.2

If you want to keep all your apps, just go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36786363 ... and install deodexed ROM, kernel and modem from recovery (CWM or TWRP) and all settings/apps will be preserved. (wipe cache/dalvic before flashing)
Thanks for the extremely helpful response. I keep seeing people suggesting deodexed roms instead of odexed. I'm trying to understand the reasoning for this. My understanding is the whole point of odex files are to increase performance in loading apps and just more efficient use of memory (similar concept to Windows pre-fetching/supercaching engine). The only circumstance I can think of using a deodexed ROM is for certain customization that can only be done with deodexed system components.
Having said that, just to be 100% clear, are these the steps necessary:
1. Select wipe cache and wipe dalvic options, then select deodexed rom (will odexed rom work as well??) and flash using Mobile Odin:

Hi! So I have a rooted Samsung epic 4g touch, and I read the instructions on how to install cysnnogen mod. It's just that I am new to rooting and I don't understand what I should do. If I install a custom ROM how do I boot back into stock. (BTW I have jellybean that I flashed from Samsung myself) rooted 4.1
I rooted following these instructions.

You can either flash a TouchWiz ROM or a One Click to get back to stock.

Re-post you're question in the Q and A section at the top of the page.. and I will be happy to help you get cwm recovery and explain flashing custom roms ( in general )
One click exe's are odin style tools you can use to flash a kernel, rom, recovery, etc, without needing to use the full odin tool. All you need to do, is boot your phone into download mode, connect the phone into your computer, and hit the volume up button. After those steps are complete, you can click "start" in the one click exe. It will flash the file for you, without requiring you to make sure that the proper options are checked in an odin tool.
My epic 4g touch for some reason became finicky today and will only flash certain roms now. It will only except blue kuban el29 gingerbread, blue kuban fl24 ics, viperRom v1 and 2.When I try to flash any other roms like cyanogen 10.1,slim beans and even stock gb27 and gb28 full restore it loads but stays in boot image loop. But it will except stock fl24 no data restore one click just fine and el29 but won't except jelly bean along with other roms. It was working just fine two days ago. What could be the problem I don't like be limited to only certain roms. Thx.

The issue may be because the different roms you mention use different recoveries. Try this method:
1. Click restore for whatever rom you want to restore
2. Once it restores, don't reboot phone yet
3. Click the advanced tab
4. Choose reboot recovery ( this installs the correct recovery for the rom you want to restore)
5. Restore desired Rom once again after recovery boot ( this time it will allow rom to be restored on proper recovery)
6. Reboot phone
Edit: Also, you will need to reflash correct modem after install. This can be done after you restore rom, prior to rebooting phone
So I tried what u mentioned above, still didn't work. It won't flash any ROM that is jelly bean. Only gingerbread or ICS. I read somewhere that my recovery needs to be updated so I tried that also and still no cigar for flashing jelly bean.

Do you have insurance? Try to flash the ICS no root one click then try to upgrade via OTA or Kies... If that doesn't work take it in and say you want a new device cuz you can't use JB.
Tried stock no root restore sprint and vm and all it does is boot loop as it does with any jelly bean rom. There's gotta be a way to fix it with out having to get a new phone.
try
u need to wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache then run format script flash rom and then modem and then reboot
As the tile says, I need some help, possibly a walkthrough tutorial, on how to get from rooted stock FJ12 to Dirty Unicorns 4.2 ROM on my SPH-D710VMUB (Virgin Mobile). I had it running fine at one point and then things got screwed up after I updated to 4.3 and tried making to modifications to fix some issues I was having, so I had to revert back to rooted stock. And now, for the life of me I cannot remember how I got there. Any new ROM I attempt to install via recovery throws an error (error 7 if I recall correctly) and will not install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you mean DU 4.3..
Make sure first you're on an ICS modem...if not. Flash it in recovery on the tw ROM you're on now so you can update prl/profile..If you need a cwm recovery for the stock ROM you're on..Look in rwilco12 repo for a custom kernel with cwm for you're build..
This is how I flashed it..
Boot to cwm on current ROM...
Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and format system
Flash DU 4.3...wait
When it's done...Don't Reboot..Go to advanced and pick reboot recovery
When new recovery comes up....do the wipes again
Now flash DU 4.3 again
Reboot when its done..
Let it settle for a few ...
Boot to cwm
Flash gapps...reboot..
Enjoy...:good:
Thanks. I'll give it a try when I have time in the near future.
The issue that I'm having is that recovery won't flash anything and just gives me an error every time. Is there a way to upgrade the recovery without switching modems?
Mobile Odin, PC Odin... You probably have the stock kernel, which won't flash anything.

Mobile Odin is an app that allows you to flash kernels in tar format... Find it here on XDA.
Thank you for your help. If I continue to have problems I will continue the conversation later, but for now I'm going to try a touchwiz based ROM since battery life on stock seems so much better.
I'm following these exact steps and I can't get 3G nor 4G to work.
I used ODIN to get ICS stock rooted, then installed the CWM Kernel, and installed DU 4.3.
Any help here.. I've been going crazy for months trying to get this to work.
Thank you.

I've tried different scenarios of installing a different Virgin Mobile modems after doing a full wipe/cash/etc. I've also tried doing a stock install of JB (after trying a stock VM ICS) before i wiped and installed DU 4.3. I read somewhere that 3G and 4G for Virgin doesn't work on the new DU 4.3.
Hi, I have a Galaxy S3 sprint that was recently flashed to Pageplus. It has the stock Android 4.3 rom and I was able to install a custom Kernel (Ktoonsez Touchwiz JELLYBEAN 4.3) so far everything works fine...I, however, would like to flash a "as close as possible" vanilla Android rom, or maybe a debloated Touchwiz based rom without the samsung and sprint Apps, btw..I like to game on my phone so a rom that brings the best performance is also welcome
However, I've read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335582 which seems to confirm that the flash wont be ruined in Android 4.1.2 (I have 4.3), but when I asked the guy who flashed my phone about flashing a custom rom he said this
"He: any questions for me?
Me: yes, If I flash a custom rom..will that break the flash?
He: yes, custom roms will 100% break the flash
they flash a custom radio usually or do NVM folder wipe
so all flash settings get wiped
there are some roms that don't have radio in them
but it's risky unless you know 100% from the ROM dev that NVM folder is not being wiped
the other issue is most custom roms don't have DIAG mode
so you can't flash inside them
only touchwiz based roms have DM mode which is requiref for flashing"
How much of this is correct?, can I flash any rom, yes or no?

No custom ROM that I know of wipes NVM or flashes a radio... Now if you are talking about Odining a stock ROM, then yes that would wipe everything out. So I would try a TouchWiz ROM, because he is right about those, they are the only ones with DIAG mode.

I've used Dandroid 2.1 which is TouchWiz, CM 10.1 and C-Rom 4.4.2 v5.9
I'm curretly using C-Rom with LeanKernel 9.6
You have to use a third party MMS App in order to receive and send pics if you are using a TouchWiz Rom with the stock Sprint MMS App.
That App is not 100% compatible with the Verizon/Pageplus 3g network.
Within the stock App go to settings and uncheck notifications.
To replace it I recommend 8sms which is free and reliable from the App store, but you have to change the setting within the App once installed.
Change whatever you have for..
MMSC URL:h ttp://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
MMSC Proxy: 0.0.0.0
Port: 80
I don't think that last two are really needed to be changed but that's how I have it
If you are using a AOSP Rom like C-Rom Android 4.4.2 the MMS App will work just fine.
However, you will have to go to
1) Settings
2) "More" Wireless & Network settings
3) Mobile Networks
4) Access Point Names
5) Choose Sprint or create a new one
Do the same thing as before
MMSC: htt p://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
MMSC Proxy: 0.0.0.0
Port: 80
Save the settings (Left button next to home button) and you are good to go.

No kitkat touchwiz rom will boot on your device otherwise.
Love your work Cnexus but Im hoping you would provide a little clarification.
1) Since you say this requires installation of the stock Tar Im assuming this will still have Knox built in? specifically in the bootloader I know the apps can be deleted but the bootloader is separate.
2) If I flash the ND8 tar can I downgrade to a previous version ?

I'm considering picking up a S3 off eBay, since they seem to be rather cheap nowadays ( under $100), and was thinking of it as an upgrade from my Galaxy Nexus.
I've seen people with Verizon S3s and S4s get stuck after updating so they couldn't install any ROMs anymore.
Of course I haven't really heard much about the Sprint phones being locked down so much, but could anyone tell me if (even with the newest update) if you can install CWM and CyanogenMod?
Thanks

it would be better to install Philz Touch CWM advanced recovery from Odin and you can back up your stock rom when in the recovery then do the second option under wipe data to wipe everything but first make sure you have the Touchwiz rom and or AOSP rom + Gapps to flash in your internal storage then wipe cache and dalvik cache and your done so yes you can still install a custom recovery and custom rom like CyanogenMod

I don't think you read through my whole post, since I wasn't asking how to do it, since I'm already familiar with Heimdall flashing (have been flashing on early Verizon S3/S4, before updates blocked it).
But the big question is... If you were to go to 100% stock (or a 100% stock phone to begin with), and have the newest updates applied(I think it is 4.3 or 4.4), you can still flash stuff, and not have it brick, right?
I know if I were to try the same on a Verizon S3, it would almost certainly brick.

I know if I were to try the same on a Verizon S3, it would almost certainly brick.

but i did read through it i just answered the last part about CWM and CyanogenMod since that's what i know for sure
but you see for the rest of your words i have flashed on full stock 4.4.2 NDC since mine is the Boost variant with root and philz touch recovery....but only stuff made for touchwiz like the S5 ported apps just the worst i got after flashing is constant force closing of one or more apps for then i would have to boot back into recovery with the button method and flash a backup but i have done so and my s3 started with 4.4.2 stock update for the sprint variant even tho its the same model number i would wait to see if anyone else with it chimes in....but since it is the same basic model everything basically works the same way for them
Yes, you can still flash whatever you want besides modem. You just can't ever Odin anything older than ND8 (Sprint TouchWiz 4.4.2) or NDC (Boost / Virgin Mobile TouchWiz 4.4.2).
