It is safe to delete everything on sdcard. I just did it and flash a ROM. And all the files needed created automatically.

Just remember, prepare everything you'll need (kernel, ROM...) on your PC.
First make a little test - go in to recovery, connect your phone to PC and mount usb.
If you can copy from PC to phone then format all, copy kernel with recovery, flash kernel THEN RESTART and flash ROM.
It's easier and safer then trying to flash boot.img.
It's good way to clean your card
I do it and boot is faster

I wouldn't format sd card, though. Too much job, some say they have problems after... Just clear data..

Don't know why they had problems?
I did it twice and had no problems at all.
But first be sure you could mount your usb from recovery or you have drivers on your pc.
If you don't have drivers, you can't go in to fastboot, or if you can't mount usb from recovery - then you are in deep sh*t.
IMPORTANT - prepare all files, double check recovery (mounting, try to copy one file) or drivers on pc and, if you are using method with recovery, after formatting (data, cache, system, sdcard) DO NOT RESTART, first flash kernel, restart to recovery, flash ROM.
If you using XS for a long time, flashing, installing and torching you XS, after some time you'll have tones of craps on your card and it'll slow down reading (from memory).
My experience is - it's easy and it's not dangerous - if you know what are you doing.
If you don't understand even a word of instruction - don't do that, that could cause many problems and you could end up with broken/bricked XS.

Yes that was needed before flashing custom roms and now your stuck. You need to pull out your battery and start learning how to use flashtool.
Okay no need to be rude! And i havnt flashed a rom just the kernel, can it be fixed?

What you need to do is reboot the phone when the boot logo comes on continuously hit the back button... That should get you into recovery. Then install rom from sd.

When you flash a kernel it removes everything you had on the phone... Thats why you have to do a backup before... But if you didn't its no big deal unless you had apps that you don't have backed up.

You don't have to unzip it. Just throw the whole zip into sd card then flash it with CWM.

[Q] Some questions about CosmicDan's multiboot kernel

I have been reading xda-developers forums since like a year ago when I got my beloved Xperia Play, but as adviced by many "recognized contributors" in their signatures, I always searched first instead of asking when a question popped up in my head. And fortunately I always found the answer.
I created my profile just like 6 months ago, but despite I have thanked a lot throgh the "thanks" button to people who posted something I got, or just contributed with something useful, that's not enough . I WANT TO THANK ALL XDA's DEVS!!!!!!!!! without you the android world would be very boring!!!!!!!
And now...... my questions:
1. I want to flash CosmicDan's TurboKernel 3.1 in order to dualboot a GB rom with an ICS or JB one. In this guide by fma965 is explained the whole process to follow, BUT the ins't explained how to deal with basebands (neither in the original kernel thread). Since full wipe/factory reset, flashing kernel or ROM doesn't affect the baseband, I wonder if the four kernel slots share the same baseband, and if not, how to install the corresponding baseband for each ROM separately. Also I wolud like you to reccomend me the best baseband for a GB-ICS or GB-JB combo (I say this cause I have always used the -36 with patched libs, fist the ones for ARC, then the Xperia Play ones from this thread thanks to romcio47, so I've never tried other baseband versions) If you can, leave a link to baseband's download or thread
2. I feel some preference for this rom DiXperia 2 'Everlasting' | Performance. Stability. Experience. because as the title says, you can really feel the performance and experience your games in a whole new level. But it is not multiboot aware, and the dev (DiKeJ) is retired. In this post CosmicDan explains how to make it Multoboot Aware, but I can avoid that by just flafhing it in the first/internal slot right???
3. I want you to share your experiences with multibooting, like configurations and tweaks you used (I mean supercharger, adreno drivers.....)
but mostly the following question: have you liked it? is it worth it in a long shot? I have multiboot Windows XP and Win 7 but I never use the 7, I just installed it to have a first impression and to learn how to work with it, but after 2 or 3 weeks, never touched it again so......
4. Nandroid backup: CosmicDan says that it's safe to restore a Turbo kernel backup if you also go back to previous kernel (the one before TK), as long as userdata partition is not too big for the old kernel. So, how do we common users know if the userdata is too big or not?
I have an R800a with unlocked bootloader by alejandrissimo and rooted MIUI Australia. Thanks in advance!!!!
1. Use the FTF with baseband from turbo kernel op the pheonix vendor.ftf
2. Yes you can install to first and the copy to other slots even if they are not multiboot aware.
3. i use this kernel all the time but rarely multiboot, works well though, no tweaks needed for me atleast
4. check to see if the userdata is above 380mb if it is then it will not be restorable,
any thing else?
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk 2
Just to confirm (before i mess something up), is it safe to put a non multiboot aware ROM like NXT on the first slot of this kernel and then having slimbean on the second slot?

thanks for the reply!!!! I just have the chance to login to xda until today cause the internet was cut due to repairs in the building where I live
During that time I tried the kernel and flashed DiXperia ROM and slimbean and both run smooth. Good wifi signal but always 2 bar signal on cellular network when I usually get 4, on both ROMs. Waiting for xDarKMario's v3
A final question: If I change to another kernel, maybe CM10 from FXP when an if its completely done, can I just leave 2/3/4 partitions on the sdcard and then transfer them to the pc if I mind to return to TurboKernel later? And if so, will TK recognize the former partitions safely instead of repartitioning and restoring all those nandroid backups?
Sorry for asking so much, but its better to be sure before screwin' up something

One more question
If I have to switch back to a non-multiboot kernel, like Lupus-v11 JB for example, do I have to flash stock firmware to set the partitions to stock? Or will flashing the new kernel automatically repartition it to stock sizes? Wedgess mentions that you need to wipe all the partitions... urm.. how exactly do I go about doing that
Sorry for the noob question... but just wanted to be sure.
Flash stock ftf and then flash the kernel. Then go and flash the New kernel also delete the turbo and twrp folders from your sd card and wipe data cache and dalvik cache in recovery of new kernel before flashing rom. That should have a clean fresh install so you don't have any problems. Also don't forget to back up your apps as well as make a nandroid backup just in case

[Q] URGENT HELP NEEDED! Phone charger port broken completely

Okay so basically I spilt a little bit of water in my charger port while i was charging it, and now it has a burnt smell and won't charge in anything. Its not fixable from anyone but samsung, and I'm not prepared to completely take apart my phone to fix it. It needs to go to a samsung service center. BUT:
1. My phone is running Rox's cm10.2, so they won't accept it
2. I can't use any charging wire as none of them work, so I can't use odin from my desktop
3. I only have limited battery (although I have a mate that has an Ace II so I can swap his battery)
I need a method to get my phone to stock, then reset the flash counter, without using my computer (so basically all on my phone).
I don't know if there is a way, but many thanks in advance if there is!

I restored this backup via cmw but doesn't work properly, I.E. wont connect to wifi, doesn't have a keyboard or launcher, missing a lot of stuff, then after 3 minutes of looking at a black screen cause of no launcher it reboots into a bootloop. I wiped data and cache but no change. Any solution to this?

Yeah I'm already back on cm10.2
Is the problem because I'm on the MF1 base and that was MG2?

Okay I actually didn't so I retried it with preload formatted and now every time I select a language the "samsung setup wizard" stops working and takes me back to select a language
Do you still need my battery or not? I can give it to you tomorrow if needed

I meant that you formatted preload before installing CM/other custom ROM and because of that there were no apps when you restored teddytsen's backup. (CWM doesn't backup/restore preload).

Oh sorry I didn't understand properly, I didn't wipe preload before, I never do, until a few hours ago
Okay my issue appears to be fixed now, I thought I'd randomly see if my phone was still broke and it magically wasn't anymore... Very strange. Thanks for your help guys, wasn't necessary in the end thankfully

[Q] somebody help me!!!

i'm bored of CM rom 'cause 4.4 is not ready yet and i prefer 4.3 stock vs CM based, so i will flash the stock one... how i... or what i must uncheck to prevent delete my files.. i haven't SD card now.. =/
so... i must....
thanks for your help...
If you're on any CM based rom and want to go back to Stock (especially to an earlier Android version) you need to wipe everything in order to work correctly.
Flash via flashtool and just leave everything checked as is.

There is one more option. You can backup using moborobo, but I'm not sure if it creates backup for app data's

you should be able to choose to wipe your data partition without wiping the Internal Storage... (should be one of the options on your recovery... which recovery are you running?)

If you backed up using cwm, only the app "Rom manager" will allow you to see your backups. And you are only able to locate and transfer them to your PC if you have the paid version of Rom Manager. If you want to go back to stock using flashtool, unfortunately you will lose your files as a SD card wipe is mandatory thru flash tool.

If He's using flashtool to go back to a stock ROM, if wipes your SD card automatically.

Well, if he's using a PC to do this, he should be able to also mount the drive and copy everything off... (if he's running CWM, he can mount it as a USB drive and not deal with the MTP method of access...)
