Hey guys i'm new to the forums and looking for some help.
I've rooted my S3 succesfully and installed CWM as well as flashed the updates for it, but after flashing the CM 10.1 ROM i cant't seem to get passed the CM logo, the screen just stays black. I've been looking through the forums and managed to find some stock ROMs but for some reason Odin(3.0.7) keeps giving me a fail message every time I try to do it.
Please help me I would just like to start from scratch and give it another go, is there any sort of guide to just reset everything either using Odin or from recovery?
Thanks
Flash a stock type ROM from development section or try to download another cm type rom . didnyoubtry anything else before you flashed cm and after

I've tried flashing a few stock roms and they all fail using odin, am I doing something wrong? And i can't flash from recovery because ic ant access internal storage while its stuck at logo.
To use Odin:
Usb in the back of computer (#1 on a laptop)
Reboot computer
Phone in download mode (volume down+ home+ power)
Run Odin as administrator
Use a known good cable
After flashing back to stock, when you get hung up on boot:
Pull battery, wait 2 minutes, reinsert
Boot into recovery with button combo, factory reset, reboot.

When I try this it just reboots back into CM logo and again at the black screen, I am wiping all caches and formatting every directory.
I made some major edits, check those out

Are they in the .tar format ? You can't flash .zip ones in Odin. You can get them from the no tripping flash counter root method

I've restarted and ran as admin, tried multiple ports and still getting the fail message when I click start on Odin with my md5 file under the PDA slot, could it be a bad file?
And you have to extract the file one time after downloaded.
Maybe try using Odin v1.85?

Yea I can't find it, not sure what to do next.
I tried using Odin 1.8.5 but still no luck.
Does anyone have any links for the canadian stock ROMs? Maybe I could try a few and see if any work?

I have a Koodo Samsung Galaxy 2x sgh-t989d. running ICS 404 .I have been attempting to root and run a custom mod.CM9
I installed cwm recovery and was able to root, but made a mistake and I dont believe cwm recovery was installed correctly as I was not properly in download mode when I ran odin.
Was able to achieve root, but phone had odd quirk that it would hang on shut down. Had to remove battery.
I installed cm9 but it hung on boot screen animation so i restored but the hang on shut off remained. I then attempted to reinstall CWM recovery again using odin. thinking it didnt install correctly the first time....bad idea
Result: now when I try to access CWM recovery the lines are double spaced and I cant do anything but reboot.
Is there a way to repair the cwm recovery or flash my phone back to stock?
I am a total noob and hope this is the right place for this and would very much appreciate any help I can get.
If you're rooted you can download ROM Manager from Play, it will flash CWM for you.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately No I had tried to restore to factory because of the hanging on shutdown so I am stuck with the phone unrooted. I can access the CWM recovery folders via the sd card, so its really a matter of fixing the CWM install without root.
I have noticed that there is a koodo stock signed zip for my phone on this site which i have downloaded. Is there a way to flash that onto the phone bypassing CWM.
My phone is still operational and so I am a little afraid of making it worse.
If you can get your phone in download mode and connect to odin the you should be able to restore back to stock rom/recovery and perhaps try the process again..

Yes, I can still get into download mode and hook to odin.
Oddly I installed CWM the first time with odin, in recovery mode I believe, and it installed with an error but it worked.
Reinstalling CWM using odin in download mode is what messed up CWM in the first place, so I was a little afraid to try it again..
I clicked pda and pointed towards recovery.tar.md5 as per instructions that I cant link to yet.
so your saying I should try it again?

Thanks for your timet guys, How do I use odin to get back to stock? I know how to use CWM to do it.
this is for soft bricked, but it's exactly the same process.

Happy flashing!
Side note: make sure you run odin as admin, less likely to get errors. And i don't know much about koodo but i would assume that you would need their stock tar file for all this to work

I don't know if there is an odin flashable stock koodo rom in the development thread yet. You could need that to do it..
However if you are having problems with cwm there is an odin flashable twrp in the dev thread.. Once you install that you can flash superuser and root your phone.. Or even go back to cwm if you choose to

It doesn't use .tar files and neither does cwm I think what you are referring too is .zip files..

and then use TWRP to install this stock original rooted koodo ICS 4.04 zip rom from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849748

Hey guys,
I just got my S3 and installed AOKP no problem. Then as part of my purchased apps, I downloaded and installed Franco Kernel installer. I had not flashed the kernel previously but tried to autoflash using the application. It flashed and now the phone won't boot. If I take out the battery and turn it on, the Samsung logo flashes and then turns off.
Please help!!!
I am JellyBean Build 4 of AOKP
Also, if I remove the battery and plug the phone into the computer, a battery with a recycle type arrow shows up ...
On app description its for the international version. Never flash anything unless you get it here or are directed to it from here. And always be sure its for our T999.
If you're getting any response there may be hope for it. Try to boot into download mode. Hold power + volume down + home. Then when prompted press volume up.
Now plug into computer and use Odin to flash the full stock FW. And pray it works!

Is there anything I can do tonight to fix it?
You can do the Odin to stock method. If you want to keep root, download the root66 version from MrRobinsons thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
Instructions for Odin should be there as well.
I would recommend doing this first anyways. When you tried the international kernel it likely flashed to the wrong partition. This is probably your best bet for getting everything back onto correct partitions. (If it flashed the sbl partition, flashing a rom in recovery won't fix it, odin should).
Basically you download the FW to your computer, (odin too) and after booting to download mode, start Odin then connect to computer. You should see it show a Com port in top left area. Then click on pda and browse to the FW you downloaded (you may have to unzip it, should be a .tar or .tar.md5 file).
Make sure PDA is checked as well as auto reboot and F.reset time. Then start flash.
Use the instructions in MrRobinsons thread in case I forgot something. I just wanted to give you a quick rundown.

So two days ago I rooted + installed cm10, I was having some issues so I did a dark side wipe and re-installed cm10 after that I didn't not think I had wiped my phone properly so I went back and did the factory rest wipe... Well oops... Now my phone won't do a darkside wipe or install cm10. It just sits on the installing text. I was able to use my back up which also seems very bugged, when I try to restart it just sits on the goodbye screen (just one of the big things I've noticed). What do I need to do to fix this, please explain in laymen terms so I can fix this, thank you and sorry for my ignorance....

You can't flash Odin files thru recovery
You really know what you're doing right? Because it kind of sounds like you don't (no offence)
Odin a stock ROM
After you do try to boot up to the Samsung e3 recovery
Wipe your phone and reboot it
Give it time... Stick roms can take up to 10minutes to completely boot up..

Man you have no business flashing if you don't understand the simple instructions and links they provided. You really should do a little reading and watching some videos before you really do brick your phone.

If you Odin and factory reset and everything then yeah your data is gone.
Invest in an external SD card and keep backups on there.

Hello, so today i was getting a play market error so i decided to flash another recovery, as mine is the earliest versions of TWRP, so i went ahead and flashed it with Odin. It was successful, but wouldn't boot into recovery. So i went ahead and tried to flash another recovery and now it says NAND write fail. Is it bricked ?
It still boots to 4.2.2 AOSP, but i have no root so can't flash recovery.
I AM OFFICIALLY SCREWED !
After getting out of download mode, it wouldnt boot anymore. Firmware upgrade issue. !
I would say buy a usb jig from eBay. Much faster and cheaper than anything else. It forces the phone to go to download mode and from then you can go to Odin and flash stock.

Somehow i managed to get it into Download Mode, but i can't find any stock odin files. Can you help me please!?
Edit: I found it but it's 1.6 GB.. Waiting 10mins
Edit: Weird, but after trying to flash top 3 famous recoveries, they all failed. So i went back and flashed the original recovery and it succeeded!
Thanks for your help, i'll have to figure out how to flash a useable recovery now >.>

IDK how yours failed. Just a few days ago, I flashed TWRP after trying out the new CWM, and everything went great.

if you can get into d/l mode, you have it whipped.
Here's the TWRP 2.5.0.2 file:
https://hotfile.com/dl/230303459/7ce1553/openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.2-jfltexx.tar.html
Install with ODIN.
Steps to follow........
Method #1 -
Place file in PDA box*
Uncheck all other boxes.
Press start.
When installation is complete, unplug usb cord and pull the battery.
Insert the battery but Don't turn on the phone.
Place phone in Recovery mode via the Power + Volume up buttons.
Method #2 -
The other way I've read to install TWRP Recovery is:
Place the TWRP 2.5.0.2 tar in the PDA box*
Check the auto reboot box and f time reset box.
Start the installation and let the phone reboot.
I believe Method #2 is the method of choice, but sometimes the Recovery doesn't take, so Method #1is recommended.
Here is an explanation why:

I have been using TWRP 2.5.0.2 for the past few months and have not experienced One issue, or really any issues. The issues I've been reading about have been with TWRP 2.6.0.0.
Yea its what im running. Guess I will Odin to 2.5

Yes, use the tutorial in case you have an issue flashing the recovery, but I think you'll be fine
