Facebook Home and the E4GT - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Facebook's soon-to-be-released Home thingy seems to have gotten a lot of buzz in the mainstream media. While I find Facebook Home "interesting" to say the least and would definitely be interested in test driving it, I'm more than happy with the current app.
That being said I noticed that only 7 devices will be supported by Facebook Home. According to Android Central
Right now the official list of phones that'll support Facebook Home at launch is as follows: HTC One, HTC One X, HTC One X+, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note II, and of course the HTC First.
I'm feeling a tad left out and wondering why the E4GT didn't seem to make the cut...
Is anyone interested in Facebook Home or are you cautious like me and feel like this might give up too much of one's privacy to Mark Zuckerberg?

No interest whatsoever, the FB app is plenty enough FB for me on my phone.

Nothing more than a marketing gimic for the latest devices. Not hard to figure out.

Absolutely zero interest. Zero.
sent from my ET4G on Paranoid Android using XDA Developers App in hybrid mode

theres a reason Facebook home is only on the latest phones: performance.
Facebook would always be running, and it seems pretty resource intensive, so you need the resources to run that AND whatever you want to do.
older phones simply aren't capable of doing both, or will do both with horrible lag.
Personally, i feel that people are becoming way to comfortable in giving up their privacy and it will come back and bite people in the a** at some point, but to each their own i suppose

I heard that its great for displaying ads and risking your privacy:thumbup:

Like he said! Mobile web from browser is the best way. Plus facebook apps eat battery.

Pffff, I don't even have Facebook. No interest!

I ran the leaked apks for q little while today. It's not bad and looks nice. But Facebook killed it once they "found out" it was "leaked".
Using the launcher isn't going to give them anymore info on you than using the regular app.

One thing in common that all those phones have I do believe is that their screens are 720p and up. That's probably why no Galaxy S2 phone made the cut.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda app-developers app

Yep. It will need a certain resolution. But I agree. Just the regular app is a resource HOG! Would not want to try a new upbeat version of it at all.

Getting it to work
Since Facebook Home launched today, if any one is curious and wants to give it a try, you can grab the APK and mod the build.prop to emulate an SGS3 and it works. Just did it on mine, and everything is working fine for me.
FWIW
Here's the APK - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40223609&postcount=267
Here's the build.prop parameters I changed:
ro.product.model=SCH-I535
ro.product.name=d2vzw
ro.product.device=d2vzw

I installed build.prop editor (free version) and when I change the values mentioned above, it doesn't seem to take the change.
The app has SU permissions.

Verified with ES Note editor after rebooting that the values in fact did change.
Still getting the error of device incompatibility.
Edit: Got it working. Had to change "ro.build.product=SCH-I535"
Edit 2: So now that I got FBH to work, I no longer get notifications for my FB Messenger. There's no little "1" icon next to the Chat Head. Bummer...

Facebook home with the device check patched out http://www.modaco.com/topic/361924-facebook-home-download/
ENJOY!!

Mobile Buzz Widget Discontinued

They have discontinued mobile buzz widget today after years of great service does anyone know a good alternative? I've had the app from my early G1 days
Lucky for you guy... I so happen to have the very first one...

The update after that does not work on ICS and Jelly.... also the old seems to be transparent sooo yeah there u go
Edit: I just installed it and I see what u mean... =\

I feel like crying :crying: it feels like I have lost a good friend after knowing him for 3 years, I checked him all day for the latest news
Do a search in the Google Play or Amazon App Store for: Filtr Tech or FiltrSoft
I can't post a link to it because I'm new, unfortunately.
I vaguely remember it as a news app, as for the widget I can't remember. However, I remember when I used 'pulse' I never used anything else. Don't know if its really what your looking for but its great for news and has a nicely laid out widget.

Facebook looking awfully weird

Hey everyone. My first post and I'm excited to have changed from CM7 to CM10! Thanks to the devs btw for making this possible. Anywho, I've searched for this already on here an Google to no avail. I've installed the Facebook app on my IC2 and for some reason, it looks like entirely different than the original. Doesn't look the same. I've provided a snapshot of it so hope it helps. And it's not just the layout that's changed but even my cover photo isn't visible. Anyone know what's going on?

Im having that issue too, I just went back to friendcaster
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
mine did that when i came to PA, after a restart or two it gave me the option to update my facebook app and it went back to normal
Yeah unfortunately hasn't given me the option to update... yet. Hopefully it does in the near future...

I thought this was the normal look for mobile? I haven't seen any other versions.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
I think it has to do with what the Facebook servers are giving you on cm10. I think its because jelly bean devices are all higher resolution than ours. It does it on the mobile website too, but if you change the user agent to iPhone on your browser it will look normal.
Phantom, parts of it look the same. But with the current version of Facebook for Android, I guess you could say that my layout for my wall looks entirely different. If you check it out on the Play store, mines doesn't look like that. Only the top portion seems to be okay. I don't even have a cover photo! But it's more of an annoyance than anything.

Sooooo.. one LAST update, I promise. Switched back to CM9 Psycho because CM10 right now was just too buggy for my phone. Everything with Psycho has been awesome, including camera. Anyways, that also brought me back to the original Facebook that I had when I started this post and it basically reverted but I rather have a stable phone than a distorted Facebook look. But I guess the problem just comes with CM9 altogether. Anyways, cheers! :silly:
i just use friendcaster its better all around anyways. may not be pretty but its hella functional. im sticking with that till we get a native fb app like we were promised.
I'm trying to use friend caster but the ads are killing me. I tried using lucky patcher to remove them but had no luck

Yeah, I tried unlinking and relinking. Didn't work. I decided to just pay the $5 per year and go back to DeskSMS. It has been super reliable across any and every build on my phone, and its companion, TabletSMS, has worked with both my Nexus 7 and my TouchPad. Worth the money to me.

Derp... wrong app. Finally figured it out
I use it but I'm a little concerned about privacy... Its obvious the actual texts and phone numbers are going through mighty texts servers to get from AT&Ts system to my nexus 7 which is only connected via WiFi, or is that incorrect? I text a lot of highly sensitive info due to my line of work. I hope I'm worried for nothing because its a great app and one more reason to put my phone down while I'm on my tablet.

I think it's going through googles servers since you login with your Google credentials, but I guess that could be just for authentication. If you need more privacy tablet talk syncs via Bluetooth but I think you have to pair it a lot.

It probably does run in the background on boot, unles you AutoStart it off.
On the stock-based ROMs, there's a background service called "SNS" (IIRC) that has the Facebook logo as its icon. This app probably uses that service. SNS can be safely frozen.

IIRC, SNS cannot be disabled via Manage Apps....It must be "frozen" (disabled) via a root tool like Titanium Backup.

My thoughts exactly lol
I hate how they keep cramming FB and Twitter down our throats. If I wanted to let my friend know that I just took a dump, I'd call him on the phone like normal people.
I am glad to see an even greater number and diversity of apps coming to android, and specifically the Note2. That said, Facebook Home will never have an opportunity to afflict my Note2.
Would be promising if it weren't made by Facebook. The app alone is lucky to still be installed.

Based on their Google+ page this won't be as simple to put into other ROMs as Pie. They said that there is a lot of new code and changes made that will make it very difficult to put into other ROMs. I guess we'll see though.
I guess I just don't see the point. It's always awesome to have new features implemented, buy why? What does this solve that the notification bar does not already do? Maybe I'm just not getting it.

Facebook Messenger chatheads are the main inspiration behind this. They say that the way the notification shade works now interrupts the flow of using your phone too much. This is supposed to remedy that by making it more accessible.

So if you've never used the feature, why talk bad about it?
But..its good to use as you can stay in a app and still easily send messages and see what they say and a picture can also be shown of said contact which is what's in the "bubble"
Quite frankly it blows my mind none of these other big names in instant messaging apps haven't even bothered to take this and adapt to their own.
I give props to the dev team behind Facebook for thinking it up.
I used it on iOS but to my surprise after using it on Android its severely limited on iOS that you can only use the chat heads or bubbles while only be in the actual Facebook Messenger app. On Android as long as your signed in you can get these little contact bubbles anywhere, and you can move the bubble anywhere on the corners of the screen or drag and drop to the trashcan to close it.
Here's Facebook Messenger chat heads being demoed

Here's a video preview of Halo
It's looking good so far, I can't wait to try it out!
Looks promising, though if it would hide more than 15% of the halo bubble, say, adjustable up to 90% hidden or transparent when not in use, that would make it a must have for every custom ROM.

So if the other ROM devs won't jump on this I'll be jumping ship to PA ROM also.

I'd really like to see some competition between PA and, idk CM or AOKP to get notifications done right.
PA I think is on track, but it would be interesting to see something like the bb10 hub (or an inspired new concept... Not just a Facebook feature ripoff) in CM or AOKP. Just to see what school of thought may win.
