[Q] [DISCUSSION] Best Gaming Launcher! - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been wondering for a couple of weeks now of what your (the community) favorite launcher is for gaming.
EG:
I think LauncherPro is good because it is fast and lightweight on ram + Im using Supercharger V6 so its always in memory
Please post below,

Smart Launcher Pro, so good I bought the full version. It supports using the dpad and buttons, so its great for getting to games quickly.
Slide phone open to unlock, use L and R to select games, dpad to move to game you wanna play, press x to play. Simple
Also I have never used scripts on this phone, any point of actually using them? (using MIUI Classic with LupusGB&ICS).
Oh and btw, I use this theme.

Perfect Home is my favorite. It is so good, it hasn't even needed an update in three years. Even has D-PAD support.

Smart Launcher eats more ram than Lightning Launcher
Smart Launcher: 15-25 mb
Lightning Launcher: 9 -18 mb

Zeam launcher - ugly, but the most lightweight launcher I've ever seen! It is only 388kb to install it and it takes only, lol I was going to check how small ram it takes but it doesn't show up in running apps, so I guess it barely takes any ram
Sent from my R800i using xda premium

You are right, it uses very little, its using 7mb right now,C:

Surely this thread should not be allowed as it is like the "best ROM threads"?
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk 2

I think its fine because people just wanna know what launcher takes up the least ram. Its like comparing other apps and asking whats the best game. But i found this useful since i saw what launchers others use and what works best as lomg as no ones offended i think itll be ok but if its not then i guess a mod should close it though it seems fine to me

Nice games. Played Asphalt 6 to 100% carrier status on my iPad, too . Thinking about buying amd doing the same with 9MM when I have time. Should be awesome on a bigger screen

Lol I cant even afford a budget tab let alone ipad but I would love to get a high end android tab. 9mm was a really good game loved it. Only complaint is that its too short. I completed it in 2 days. Ive completed asphalt 6, rainbow six as of today and gangstar miami vindication. Next stop is splinter cell. Im not really a fan of nova but for some reason its the only gameloft game I can play whilst on the phone.

Re not being bored with your phone...
I tend to move to different launchers...have used ADW and Launcher Pro in the past, no using Go Launcher with Go Locker and the D.SUGER theme - looks great and offers great functionality.
Also try GetJar (think you have to download the apk from the GetJar site rather than the Market - you'll need to check that) and then you can download 'premium' apps - I've so far got Beautiful Widgets and the TAPATALK app for free (normally pay apps).
Hope this helps!

Best ICS apps?

I know people probably ask this 1000 times a day but:
I recently got a ICS ROM on my phone and can't find and decent apps Googling things like "Top ICS apps" all the results seem to me targeted at new users. I am looking for the must have apps for advanced people running custom ROMs and writing their own apps.
apex launcher. that's all i can think of that's ics exclusive that i use.

Would those of you who use apex launcher try nova launcher. I tried it and while apex launcher is nice real nice, I cant stand the lag when I open the app drawer.

I have ZERO lag on apex when opening the app drawer (and no Apex is not a system app on my phone) but I will give Nova a try regardless.
I also second Chrome and Apex/Nova Launcher as the must haves so far. Honestly most good apps for ICS are going to be available for older android OS's as well just because of the huge installed user base that exists for froyo/gingerbread. Only 3% of all android devices are currently running ICS

Wow, I find it quite funny that you openly admit that there is likely 1000 other threads C covering this issue but you posted anyways.
The reason there are not many results on Google (which I find hard to believe) I'd because ova has not been out long enough with high enough market penetration for useful ics only applications to be created.

So besides the fact that you cant open a singal thread on xda anymore without getting atleast one flaming comment(which is sad)
Since ics been out for about 7 months devs have made some exclusive 4.0 apps
So back on topic i found i like
Apex launcher(no lag) exclusive to 4.0
Chrome browser exclusive to 4.0
Boid Twitter again exclusive
Notes for ics syncs with google tasks
Good luck on your search

[Q] Tweaks to reduce lag on Sony original homescreen?

Is there any way to reduce the general slugginess the Xperia Home has? I really like it but the way it stutters around almost every time irks me a lot.
Has someone found any way to reduce the lagginess, without using custom kernels, on the stock rom?
By the way, I noticed that menus (such as the settings menu, or long lists of stuff like the installed apps list) get almost flawless if you enable "Force GPU Rendering" under Developer Options. The home launcher is never flawless smooth though. It's always a bit jerky and stuttery.
I seriously hope there is a way to make the phone feel more fluid when scrolling and swiping through things.
I gave up on the Sony home launcher after only a month of use, and have been using TSF Shell ever since. Smooth as butter transitions, and is all round simply awesome!!
Give it a try, but be warned, it is expensive. (But totally worth it!!)
Install the new jelly bean launcher. It's much smoother. Found it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2061683
Guide:
1. Extract the zip after downloading.
2. Get the apk and install like a normal app. No root needed.

Holly Molly, Batman! You are right, the system is super smooth now.
Is there any drawback for having this enabled?
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
I tried the new home but found it less smooth than the original one... What gives?
How do you lock the home in memory? And how would that help with making it less stuttery?
And I don't know if having GPU rendering has any drawback. I've been using this for a couple of days and I haven't experienced any drawback, not even battery drain.
And I wonder why the multi quote button isn't working.

Multi-Window Support?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has looked into a Multi-Window feature for the nexus 4?
That would be cool...
it would really be great on nexus 4 I have s3 as well and multi view is brilliant and handy as well I hope someone will look for into this
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
+1 for Multi Window! had that feature on my old s2 and it was great. But greater were it on the nexus because of the larger screen! Hopefully that comes here to us
I hope to...
It may be hard to do
AW: Multi-Window Support?
yes it would be nice but because its a touchwiz feature we would need a port of touchwiz. And who wants touchwiz? of course I would flash it and play around with it but as a daily driver?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
It would need to be written up from scratch, so don't hold your breath
At least a popup play like Optimus G
Cornerstone? It's open source but I think Google banned it or something :/

There's already plenty of options for Pop-up play like the one on Galaxy devices. I've tried most of them and Dice player is my favorite It has a simple minimalistic UI and supports most videos.. Someone has also port Sony's Small Apps into our devices. You just have to flash the correct zip mod according to your rom and you're done. About Multi-windows, I'd really like to see someone port them to our devices.. Someone can at least create a rom with cornerstones that have conditions to prevent end consumers(not us modders) from using it as the implementation could ruin the app's size or sort.. I don't know much about the techie stuff but Google banned 'cornerstone' due to the fear that many people might complain about apps not working and being glitchy..

Try GMD gesture control, had feature support for alt+tab and numerous other app switching features and other gestures.
+1 it'll be great
Multi-Window is going to be an extreme challenge. It's like HTC Sense, too manufacturer specific. It took months just to port a ROM to the T999 with multi-window. I don't see it happening. The Optimus G's "multi-window" however, is definitely a possibility.
Personally, i don't feel like you need "multi windows" on phones, maybe phablets bridge that gap.
Multi tasking though for sure, check out apps like, glove box, pop corn player, Super floating video player, and sidebar over on the play store

So you recommend spending 2.25€ for it? It is tempting to try.
Edit: how much RAM does it need?

I use Opera to download files, Dolphin to read news and browse as i don't have to install fonts to my phone, the other one is default one. And normally I used to have more than 3. But last night I format my phone and not installed all browsers yet.
Its been a while since I never use launcher. Today I found this post and want to try some launchers and decide what is best. But I can't decide yet. That's the reason I has many launchers.
So, I bought it and have been playing with it for some time. Here are my first impressions.
It looks really nice and it is very good that you can customize what will it look based on time, location or WiFi. So you can always have something different, based on what you need.
Screens are fully customizable and there are 5 of them. You can have chameleon widgets or put your own anywhere. Official widgets are really nice.
It is pretty fast but tends to lag sometimes and first load of launcher is quite long.
You can put apps on screens and create folders and link them to app drawer so you have them always at hand.
The biggest downside of chameleon? RAM USAGE! It eats around 100MB to as high as 135MB or ram and it's slowing the phone down sometimes.
This launcher is in the making and will get even better than it is now. They really have to improve ram usage otherwise it is really good for now.
Will post some more after few days.
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
yeah i noticed the ram usage too
i even encountered a force close when i was playing around with it, though only once, but still
