Hi. I'm relatively new DHD user, and I've rooted and installed CWM using the htcdev method. I've flashed a few roms already and I've been trying out/running SVHD for nearly a day now. I sim-unlocked my phone whilst running SVHD. And I'm wondering, will I keep the sim-unlock if I flash a new rom. Or will I have to re-enter or buy a new code?
Thanks for your help in advance!

No, sim unlock by IMEI code is permanent. You can flash as many roms as you want and you won't have issues at all.

Thanks, just wanted to confirm that before diving in and playing about with some more roms!

Hi guys, just moved on from owning a desire to a dhd. Only had it for about an hour and i want to root and flash a custom rom onto it. Just a few questions though.
The phone is sim free and not locked to any network and it is running 2.2.1. Now i know that i am going to have to downgrade it first but will i need to create a goldcard first?
software number is 1.72.405.3
thanks.
Goldcard is not needed.

Hello!
When I bought my Desire, I asked the seller to root it and to flash it with another rom for me.
Then I read something about a goldcard. Since the original rom was from Orange (French provider) and the previous owner had it unlocked (officially or not I don't know ), will I ever have to use a goldcard? As I don't have a goldcard, what can go wrong?
Thanks!

Goldcard is a tool which is required when you try to flash stock ROM. There are a myriad of reasons why you might need to do that in the future.
Here is the method I used:

If you do not have a goldcard you could be unable to flash an ruu. You need to do this, if you want to set your phone completely back to stock. You need to this, when you want to "delete signs" of root, s-off and installed custom roms. So that when you sent your phone back to your provider/seller, you can assert a warranty claim, although you lost it with rooting (and so on) your phone.
Ohhh shh**tt!!
@stringer7: thanks for the link.
I have a backup of the original ROM. Can't I just reflash it to restore the phone back @stock? Can I still make a goldcard?
Thanks for your help!
As far as i know, you can make a goldcard at any time. It's just important to have one.
You shouldn't need a Goldcard- but it's completely optional and beneficial in some ways
Well I plan to give my Desire to my Mom and buy another phone, I don't want her to experience any rom related bug so I'll turn it back to official rom...
Can I simply reflash the backed up official rom? Will I lose Root and/or S-Off?

Yes you would then lose root and s-off.
You could reflash your backup - but if it's a nandroid backup, that would have been done after you rooted wouldn't it, so you would get rooted official rom.
So best thing is find the ruu for your device and carrier, create goldcard and run the ruu? You will find tutorials on XDA for this!
Ok thank you very much for your answers

If a phone got officialy unlocked (= desimlocked), is it still branded?

Rooting a phone does not take the branding off it, flashing a Rom with no branding does that... For example, my phone provider is virgin mobile, when i rooted it I still had virgins logos and apps on my phone... When i flashed a custom Rom, I didn't

Give us more details, is a unbranded phone or a branded phone of an operator? What version of rom do you have?

i dont know, i got this phone a week ago and tried the ota updater and it had nothing. this just popped up today. i do not plan to install it either way but are you sure this is the same update?
I'm 99% sure. If you update you won't be able to root phone until HTC release new unlock.
My WFS has bootloader unlocked, S-ON and rooted, running JxMatteoROM v1.1.
No need to use any updates from HTC anymore. I froze update with link2sd and no more nag to install it.
What is the Android version? Is it 2.3.5?

If you install titanium backup from the play store, it will tell you if you have root.

just flash a recover img (if theres no custom recovery already) and then you can flash whatever rom you want
Hi Guys,
First time poster!
My father has been given an SE ARC as a gift from a friend. The handset is not unlocked. Im thinking about sticking a ROM on there so i can get the latest version of Android for him.
If i ROM the handset will this remove the need to have an unlocking code?
Thanks
Darren
You have to get access to the phone proper before you install any ROM. These include some settings on your phone to allow various steps you need to root and install a custom ROM

I can get into the phone by using the SIM card it came with, the only time i get issues is when i use a SIM from a network provider.
