My Periodic questions on the Note II - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

OK, just received my Note II from Sprint, it came with 4.1.1 on it, should I root it first, or take the 4.1.2 OTA first and then root, want to make sure it is OK to take the OTA before rooting, please advise, thanks.

You can root it then do the firmware update and flash a MA7 rom....the MA7 base roots just as easily.

OTA and then root. The root method is the same for every firmware version of the Note 2. Accept the OTA so you'll have the latest bootloader, modem, etc. Root afterward so you don't have to install that stuff manually.

The main reason why I was asking is because the 3.0 rootkit only shows for 4.1.1 as I read I would have to enter option 42 for Australia version for 4.1.2, so just wanted to be safe.:good:

You'll be ok. I was rooted and unrooted just to take ota update. Then I rooted again using same exact method as before. It will be ok and safe.
Sent from my Amazing Galaxy Note 2!

Did you have to use code 42 since Sprint 4.1.2 doesn't show up in the toolkit
Sent from Galaxy Note II

I used rootkeeper then did the update and keot root....you can go that route if your worried about versions

The sprint ljc build works fine on the toolkit for the ma7 4.1.2 build.

Thanks guys, I will update tonight and then root, will report back Cheers

K, OTA taken, will root tonight when I get home, I assume using Windows 7 should be fine

K, all done, no issues all is good. just curious is there an option to make the external SD card default for action when backing up items, I know you can change directories when doing the action, but just curious if it could simply be set by default instead.

how can i root my device????????
first unlock boot loader?

All the info needed is here in this thread along with the Toolkit, see below, I will also post you a video to view by QBKing77, cheers.

anyone with update know if root works still?
if it didnt could you go back with fastboot files to ICS then root then upgrade again?
thanks
For anyone who has received this, does root stay open and or the exploit still work? Important for safestrap working, but I guess honestly there's no need for that if this update is as solid as I suspect it will be.
Edit: Beaten on the question, sorry I didn't refresh
iDroidNow:
You could safestrap recovery backup your current build and then push backwards that way, if you really wanted, but you'd have to root on ICS.
Incidentally, does anyone know if OTA RootKeeper works on this?

Can anyone provide me a system dump of this just containing the APK's.

[ROM][ODIN]Odin One-Clicks(AT&T, ROGERS, TELUS, BELL, SASKTEL, TELCEL, KOODO, PCT)

[ROM][ODIN]Odin One-Clicks(AT&T, ROGERS, TELUS, BELL, SASKTEL, TELCEL, KOODO, PCT)
This is a set of Odin One-Click Packages. If you're unfamiliar with these, it is the factory firmware loaded in a compacted version of odin and flashing is executed in a single click. No need to check boxes, or worry about what slots to load etc. Although these have been confirmed working, I do not own this version of the s3 so these have not been tested by me. They're packed in self-extracting 7z archives. They will not affect your flash count. Every device has a rooted version. Most have an unrooted version as well. If yours does not its because I damn near got carpel tunnel making these and my hands needed a break. Unrooted versions will be up soon.
Windows PC with Samsung Drivers installed is required.
Shouldn't be any problems but I am not responsible for any that may arise.

I would be interested to know if the Odin 1.81 downloader will work on the S3 since it uses the 3.0x downloader.
Used the one click odin method for some of the ics leaks that arrived on the samsung skyrocket in the past. Has anyone tested these on their S3 yet? Would be really handy when I decide to sell mine. Getting the wife one for Christmas so this is useful.

He failed trying to root. So yes he needs stock firmware but I figured rooted was the prefrence. The addition of superuser isnt going to make a difference. Also if he failed to get root then he most likely has a stock recovery which makes what you linked essentially worthless. If he wants it unrooted my link covers that as well. Trust me on this.
Ok, but he cant install a rooted stock rom if hes not rooted?

Yes he can. Using Odin which is what I linked. It's an Odin one click. Which will unbrick and add root simultaneously. Do you actually own a Samsung?

Also, the new S Voice still isn't working for me. It just returns a no network connection error message. Anybody have a fix for this yet?

hey there, clever idea trying to use legit roms from tmobile to get around the bootloader that's set only to take official roms! however the bootloader was locked by att and is using their own signature (security key), so unfortunately t-mobile roms won't work. neither will official Samsung roms, only roms by att themselves will work. the most you can wiggle here is to flash the att official rom with another tool using your computer, but it's the same att rom with nothing changed in it.
as for unlocking the bootloader, sadly that hasn't happened either. there IS a semi root available on 4.4.4 of this phone if you're willing go to back a few versions. the reason I say "semi" is because once you turn your phone off and on again it will go away. so you'll have to re-root it after each reboot.
hope this helps, I know the information overload on here can be overwhelming to sort through, especially if you don't live on the forums *cough ^^^ *
You can't downgrade if you are on firmware OC4 or above. *cough*

First t-mobile roms aren't compatible, secondly they wouldn't flash because of the locked bootloader and 3rd t-mobile bootloader isn't compatible with at&t note 4.
