Wellll
Hboot is the boot loader, the one you go into by holding vol down and power hboot update can only be provided by HTC, and there's none so far. I figure you're asking for sense jellybean?
Ruu is ROM update utility, if you want to go to stock rom use this.
Cid is related to your region. You can use a ruu only with a specific cid

Just a brief of the question asked:
hboot
is the bootloader - sort of the bios for PC.
what it do - basically when device is switched ON, it checks the hardware, initializes the hardware and starts the Operating System i.e Android or Recovery when you select Recovery
For newer hTC device since the One series, the radio comes with the hboot.
For Jellybean update, the hboot rework the partitions.
How to check - reboot to bootloader you should see the hboot version written there. The latest hboot for One V is 1.18.0000
How to update - running a RUU or the OTA update released by hTC or manually fastboot flash the firmware.zip (with a proper method).
RUU and OTA
RUU - Rom Update Utility - a file released by hTC according to the CID.
OTA - Over The Air update released by hTC with patches to update the earlier software version according to CID
CID
Carrier ID also now is more known as Country ID. hTC released software version based on the country/region they sell the device to the distributors(not from where you buy the device). You may buy a CID for Asia in USA because the distributor sell them not hTC.
How to know your CID - download the CID Getter from PlayStore and runs it.

thx for info,
mine is 1.17.0000
- I wonder how to update that to latest version.
- is that significant or any different ?
BTW, already unlock, with s-on and CM10.

Mine is 1.17.0000 too,and I would want to know how I can update it as I'm not running official rom
Sent from my HTC One V using xda app-developers app

You can update it only with the official ROM, the steps already explained above
1. CID Getter - to check your CID
2. Find the RUU to revert to official ROM or your stock Nand backup
3. If there is a newer RUU then your hboot.. running the RUU will update the hboot
4. If there is only RUU for your hboot - you need the OTA update after installing the official ROM

[Q] Error 140 when flashing RUU file

I am trying to install RUU_Marvel_HTC_Europe_1.30.401.0_Radio_47.10.35.30 29H_7.46.35.08_release_183799_signed.exe and am getting error140 something about wrong bootloader version.
Can anyone help?
My Current version is ARA_1.47.415.1 + HBOOT 0.90.0.0
Try checking this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835777
and let's know if it helps !!!!
I am a little confused. Do need to have s-off to be able to do this? i mean to install the Europe RUU.
Note that my phone is not locked (not branded) but has s-on
just run it but don't continue or anything then find rom.zip somewhere in windows temp files then rename to PG76IMG.zip then copy to root of memory card then flash by holding Vol down + power when completely off fast boot uncheck.
Also you have to make a goldcard for this to work if you are s-on
Thanks. Ill try that
Pls help.Have WildFire S, Relocked bootloader, modified Hboot by this guide. When i'm trying to update my ROM using RUU, i have 140 Error. When i'm trying to update ROM using PG76IMG.zip bootloader ignores Update.

Just follow the instruction. Good luck

Downgrade from 2.3.3 to 2.2?

How do I Downgrade to a EU build of 2.2? Just RUU? Im on official 2.3.3 now.
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
If you want to go to a different RUU from the 2.3 RUU then you may possibly require a goldcard if the cidnum are not matching.
- The cidnum in the RUU are available in the android-info.txt whereas the cidnum hardcoded in your device is retreived by giving command
Code:
fastboot getvar all
- If they match you dont require goldcard. Else your sdcard needs to be a goldcard.
- Dont select a old RUU which will blast you back to eclair.
But any case I dont advise going to any RUU just like that. Its dangerous coz it plays around with radio and hboot which are both permanent brick potential. 2.3 RUU is safe.

Dont try a different ruu untill u find out for sure it will work because im pretty sure u can NOT downgrade using an ruu. I could be wrong but im fairly sure im not. :sly:
Sent from my HTC Desire
So how do i downgrade? With PB99IMG? Do i need to s-off? My CID is the unbranded EU one (HTC_E01 or something, idunno).
You need to first S-OFF with revolutionary. Then flash the downgrader from alpharev. Then flash either a RUU for your network provider, or the WWE RUU (however you need a goldcard if you want to use the WWE RUU as it de-brands your phone).
If you need help on how to use revolutionary, or flash the downgrader then look at my guide.
For revolutionary look at "S-OFF'ing problems" and for flashing the downgrader look at "flashing HBOOT/SPL"
This is a quote from bortak in a previous post. Thank him

The OP seems to already be on stock hboot SON with official Android 2.3.3. So if he wants to run a RUU imo he doesnt need to follow the revolutionary and downgrade path. What is the point of that ?
I dont know why you want to downgrade but:-
- Which RUU are you planning to run ?
- What are you trying to achieve ?

Well ur opinion is wrong then. U cant downgrade using a ruu, simple as that. S-off with revolutionary only takes 5 mins so why not go the s-off root
Sent from my HTC Desire
The problems that can occur downgrading from factory 2.3 are:
-problem overwriting hboot (newer release)
-problem overwriting radio (newer release)
Best way to downgrade is to gaining s-off, flashing Alpharev downgrade and radio.img from desired RUU via fastboot, and then running Desired RUU. The appropriate RUU to be used should be 2.2 WWE RUU cause I couldn't find any FroYo release that is for HTC_Europe (all are Eclair releases).
One more important thing is version of device (amoled or slcd) cause running a wrong RUU can cause screen failure, so repair is a little bit heavier (like playing table tennis in complete darkness ). So I suggest to find the newest FroYo release (reference is the latest version number of release and radio).

SO i ran revolutionary, tried to ruu but resulted in hboot error. I flashed bravo_downgrade.img from alpharev.nl and now my hboot is S-ON 0.93.something. So now i should:
S-OFF again using rev
Flash radio from ruu using fastboot
Flash bravo_downgrade.img using fastboot
Flash hboot from ruu using Fastboot.
Now run the RUU.
Right?

Updating to Stock JB

I want to know if is it possible to update my device which doesn't have JB update yet, with CID HTC__J15, to JellyBean without rooting my device or unlocking my bootloader using RUUs?
Is it possible for example to update my hboot and then download the leaked JB Europe RUU and install it on my HOX?
If your hboot isn't supported yet, you have to wait for the official update.

No your cid is not in the list of supported cids of that ruu. You can not install it !
In the 2.17 ruu your cid actually was supported in the RUU, but in the JB ruu your cid is not listed so you will end up with an error !

Install WorldWide RUU on a HTC One X from China

Hi, I am really sorry to post such a simple and maybe common question, I just CANNOT find a straight answer.
I have a HTC ONE X 32GB (WW version) I got from China.
I checked the version of the Ruu and it says 1.29.708.9 (HK Ruu)
And the bootloader was unlocked, so i locked it.
I want to return to Stock Ruu cause I cannot update the official version.
I have 2 questions:
1. I am from Israel, so when I return to stock RUU, should i install the HK version like the one that WAS on my phone, or a different one??
-Can I install a different Ruu or it will screw my phone?
2. If i update to the HK Ruu which was originally on my phone, will i get a specific update dedicated to the Ruu or a general one from HTC?, I just want it to be "worldwide" and not really blocked to any updates.
Thanks, sorry for the mess.
Hey there... well as a matter of fact any other RUU will NOT work. You have to get the appropriate RUU for your phone depending on where it is from...
This will NOT block any updates, it's just for languages and local stuff specific for that region, but technically it won't be any different from any other One X.
Also there is no international RUU... every phone MUST have a specific region yours is China and that doesn't make it any different or change anything whatsoever.
Edit : Here is the link to the HK Jellybean RUU http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/sec...Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_299865_signed.exe
Follow the steps on the RUU help threads if you're new to this... This RUU will give you the latest major update. Any other official updates should roll out to you as long as you have the official recovery. If you want the WWE you can get a custom ROM that has it but I doubt that you can get it officially. Good luck with this
I hope I helped
Hi, if you are in ICS, go to stock .
Means you need to restore a stock nandroid back up and its boot img . Then flash stock recovery, and last re lock bootloader. Why? To get official ota manually.

I'm not quite sure what is the Rom i am currently using, it looks like a stock rom that China folks changed to fit in their stupid little programs.
Why do I need to do all that stuff you said?, can't i just install the stock rom like Waseem said?
If your hox is jellybean , yes, there some roms stock look, also i can make you one with no modifications or tweaks...but....if your firmware is ICS, you need to update, and for that i recommend you to update via ota.

Hey I appreciate it, but I simply want to make my HOX fresh and clean from bull that was installed by Chinese folks and get a stock rom that updates by itself.
I downloaded Waseems RUU which he said was the latest for my version of HOX.
I already made my bootloader "Relocked" because it said to do so on some guide.
Now, Do i need to flash stock recovery? or just install the RUU?
Sorry i'm a bid confused.
This is my machine:
Android 4.0.3
Software #: 1.29.708.9
HTC SDK API LEVEL: HTCExtension_403_1_GA_7
Please give me some quick advise, this shouldn't be too hard, but it messes with my head.
Also, do I need to make some sort of cleaning to my phone before installing the RUU?, or the RUU installations does it by itself?
You need ICS latest ruu for our firmware. Cant install JB over ICS.
SkyDragon© You Are Not Allow To Lick My Banner, Stay Away!
What is JB?
I have the latest RUU which Waseem posted earlier. But do I need to install dtock recovery for it? Or somehow clean my device before installing the RUU?

What he means is that you can NOT install a 3.14 based ruu, you need to install a 1.29 or a 2.17 ruu. The hboot difference is to big !
Edit :
Download this one
http://bugsylawson.com/index.php/fi...89-radio-1120410414-release-259897-signedexe/
Relock the bootloader if its unlocked and execute the ruu with admin rights. This will bring the phone to full factory stock. Note that it will wipe EVERYTHING !
After the ruu you reboot and do all the official ota's you can get....
Holy cow.. now I get it. The Ruu Waseen gave me is jellybean (jb) .
Ok cool thanks.
But still. How do I determine if i need to install stock recovery before installing ICS stock ruu?
Because I accidently Relocked the hboot before flashing the stock recovery.
Also, all links to stock ruus are broken, wherecan I download ICS stock Ruu?
I seriously appreciate your help guys

Hey sorry I thought you had the JB Hboot... here is the 1.29 RUU for HK http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/sec...Radio_2.1204.122.17_release_268338_signed.exe
flash it and it should restore the stock ICS software to your HOX. then go to Settings > About > Software updates and you should then get the official JB update which will update your Hboot, Radio and ROM to the JB base 3.x
I forgot if you have to flash the stock recovey and re-lock before flashing stock RUU but I don't think you do. I guess if you flash the RUU it should relock your phone and flash stock recovery and boot.img by itself But please to be safe just make sure this is true.
A ruu does not lock the bootloader, you have to do that yourself. The only thing a ruu does is flash back the stock recovery, boot.img and software.
You relock the bootloader in fastboot mode
Fastboot oem lock
Keep the phone in the bootloader and right click on the ruu and select
Run as administrator
Edit....the first ota you will get is the ics 2.17 software, then you will get a small update and after that you get the 3.14 jellybean update. You do not get the jellybean instantly.....

I did everything you said, now i have a different problem
I cannot open the RUU file you told me to download (the installer).
I had that problem on my other PC and then downloaded JAVA and it worked.
On this laptop I downloaded java, and it still doesn't load the installer.
It opens a COMMAND windows, and closes it. nothing happens.
I run it as admin and verything.
I am using Windows 7 32bit :\
Any idea?

HOX Hboot 0.94.0/main version 1.28.161.9 no JB?

Hi guys,
I got a HOX with CID VODAP102.
Using HBOOT 0.94.0000 and main version 1.28.161.9
Radio uknown ('none' says bootloader)
I want to update to JB, specifically CM10.1.
But i need to update my HBOOT, though can't seem to figure out how with my CID...
How would i go about this? The threads i found are either inconclusive or with different versions.
Oh yeah, this didn't work because of the CID thing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924003
edit; just noticed, i already did the fastboot flash boot boot.img. So now i have a boot.img with an older version of the CM software. Which appearantly does not boot.
Thanks, Ice

Rooted and unlocked. Been running CM10 for a while (beta's).
Device is still S-on though; but thats for all HOX's i think?
yeah, however to update your HBOOT you need to download the right firmware package for your CID here
Code:
# adb reboot bootloader
# fastboot oem lock
# fastboot oem rebootRUU
# fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
# fastboot reboot
now you need to unlock it again and flash a custom recovery... and that's it, flash whatever you want now
well that did it! at least; the phone boots again.
rebooted to bootloader and that now says hboot 1.36 which probably means i can update to 10.1.
just to be sure; i need to install CWM again, copy the boot.img and flash cm10.1?
ill try that tonight. just glad i can be reached again.. need the phone for work
Thanks!
edit; oh and unlock the bootloader again. Or is that not necessary since i should already have root access?

dont use any of those, you're best option is to go completely stock by using an ruu from the link I will post at the end for you. when you go to the page the ruu that you want is the 7th from the bottom, it will be version 1.28.161.9 and should be 609MB. start downloading it then there are some other things that you need to do in the meantime>>>>>http://www.androidruu.com/?developer=Endeavor make sure it matches exactly the version I have stated
