Wow, that's some seriously low RAM. And I get pissed when my RAM goes below 200MB. LOL.
BTW, do you need like 5 browsers installed?

Because Android caches apps in the background. More apps installed, more apps cached = lower RAM. Less installed apps, less cached apps = more RAM. Preloading apps in cache equals faster load times for apps, but Android can't know which apps you use mostly so all apps get cached(my opinion is Google apps have higher priority), thus you get lower RAM. Logic would say, uninstall all apps you don't use so only apps you need get preloaded.

Isn't some of the RAM allocated to the GPU? The Adreno 220 might require more RAM relative to the Mali as doesn't the Mali have its own dedicated RAM?
Just wondering.
Here's my info

Mine also shows 784mb. I think its all that Tmobile bloatware. I hear most of them are installed as part of the system so they are all taking up that RAM. It should be around 830 shouldn't it? if root is available this should be fixed right?

Yes with root it will help bump up ram, but we will not get full access to the advertised 1gb of ram.

784 here too. On a side note, I found something running called "tethering manager" & "wi-fi sharing manager", so maybe they're whats stopping people from tethering freely.

Yes, your correct. Android OS is built to multitask so the system has many different apps running in the background at all times to help certain system apps to loud up immediately etc.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
The international and AT&T's Galaxy SII don't have all that crap on their phone. Ours has so much bloatware that's using the RAM that's why we're at 784. If you remove all the crapware that T-mobile put you'll get 837 too.
Mine shows 1.932GB of system storage.

The higher the screen resolution the bigger ram need to render.
For example, Xperia P have 1GB of ram. And my free ram around 400-450mb. But on Xperia Z for example, it have 2GB of ram but user report only have around 900-1000mb free ram.

EVen I have around 200MB mostly. Hoping JB will give better result!
it is normal of cource, especially if you have many apps installed..
on 4.2.2 jb (cm10.1) i ve got 359 ram and i've got 3 pages of apps...(with the pre installed ones)
I've got around 450 max if I clear on CM10. I usually don't have too many apps running. I find Facebook Maps and Fruit ninja bothering especially. But still: free RAM is wasted RAM. Low RAM doesn't slow down performance until it gets critical low levels.

how low is to be considered as critically low?

What's your average remaining memory at the end of the day?

As the title say, I usually get just about 500-700 MB left at the end of the day. That's without killing apps the whole day. Is that just fine?
Also why do RAM starts at 1750? I thought we have a 2Gb Ram? I'm on x14 Rom if that even mean anything. TIA.

I think this way- unused RAM is wasted RAM I usually have 700-200 mb left. The 1.7gb is probably because some of it is allocated elsewhere? Not really sure..
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I don't look at it as wasted because it doesn't go anywhere if you don't use it. I just thought the phone starts to go laggy when you have almost used up most of it.
Can android OS sort of free some RAM by closing some apps that's been inactive for a long time automatically?
Maybe that function is there and I just don't know where to find it. A help will surely be appreciated.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
I think that if you feel like you've used your phone "regularly" and you still have 500-700mb at the end of the day, that's great!
Android does have some memory management, and unused ram is "wasted ram", but on earlier devices, the android system and a few apps would use a majority of the memory, and so to be able to use your memory with the apps you were using right then, you had to use some pretty aggressive memory management.
500mb is still a nice chunk of ram to have left over, in my opinion.
None my phone does not last till the night. Battery is very good for a phone this big but I am a very heavy user as well

android memory management All you need to know
I did a quick search and this was first one that came up.. Leave android alone to manage itself . Killing apps and background processes in Android just causes the phone to work harder.
The above does not apply to bad or rogue apps that you have NOT USED or started.
read this post and you will understand why the above is VERY important on android .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=904023
There are thousands of other post about memory management.. Just use the search ...

No.. android will pre load apps into ram.. It swaps them out for those used most by the user as time goes on. It will keep Most all the apps sitting in ram waiting . The cpu and system is designed to do this. Holding something in ram.Is less taxing on the batter and cpu cycles then it is releasing it and freeing ram..
in android / Linux FREE RAM IS WASTED RAM.. this is the part you are not understanding.. Android will use minimum of half the available ram at all times. If you kill process or remove one app . it will bring the next most used app up. KILLING apps or process from ram just makes your phone work harder and use more battery... Read Article. One more thing. Say you have 10 apps sitting in ram using 80% of your ram.. Then launch one games that needs 50%. android will shut down apps sitting in ram for the least used and provide to the Game..So killing off apps only cause the os to have to think about ram kill and launch apps. Not to mention it does not keep a accurate account of apps you do actually use the most. Working the cpu harder . there for using more battery ..

No, because there are apps that run off the get go. Such things like the keyboard, launcher, etc. Those don't usually fall under system RAM.. so you'll never really have 1750 Mb free. The 1750 includes more than just user apps.

Do you use tapatalk very often? it seems to be consuming a lot of ram.. If your phone has any apps that you don't really use, remove them.. saves up ram and space..
Do you use Tasker by any chance.. If no then you should give it a try.. It really helps you to manage majority of things all together.. Like for example: you using SetCPU for profile triggers, same thing can me done with Tasker plus it consumes less ram.. And can use greenify through it.. As it is a plugin of Tasker..

[GUIDE] 220 Elements Safe to Freeze in Titanium Backup 4.4.2 NE6

Root and "Titanium Backup" are needed to disable most of those.
This is how i run my Note on Stock ROM, those are the things i do not use, frees me like half a GB a RAM, saves battery and makes my phone snappier.
Please dont be dumb, if you use Calculator, dont freeze it... and more important, if you dont have another keyboard app installed, please do not freeze "Samsung Keyboard" lol use common sence please.
Those elements are safe to freeze, do not delete em, is diferend, some things are needed present when phone boots or it might get stuck in bootloop, but you can freeze all that, just leave whatever you use.
If you are just freezing, there is nothing that can be messed up, if you see something isnt working right of the apps you are using, just go and enable it back in TB.
Here is the list, 20 screenshots of the "FROZEN" list in Titanium Backup, "YouTube" is the 220th i didnt want to crop/upload a whole screenshot for just 1 element, i watch youtube on the browser.. dont see any use of the app:

Only if you have nothing to use it for, like you
im showing theres a lot of RAM to be filled with usefull programs you use instead bloatware, as then everything would open much snappier and save battery, or if its filled half way with bloatware already Android will start closing your oldest open apps automaticly when there isnt enough RAM for all apps that are running...
and bloatware aways runs, so itll be the apps you installed to be closed..
Hope you get it
that is extreme Freeze tho, im just showing what CAN be frozen, so people arent afraid to do so when they wan to stop an element..
Nice
Thanks!!!

It should not be, ive done this with many phones few years back, this is mainly samsung bloatware, google services that i dont need i know they run whenever they want in the background, all the widgets, fonts, wallpapers you wont use so no need them been loaded in RAM, and some apps that arent OS effective..
still, unfreeze everything, and see if something that was frozen was your problem...
