Yes, I know I'm a noob by the definitions set forth by the XDA community/admins.
Yes, I googled and saw some threads on the keyboard shortcuts available for Android 4.0+ platform.
No, I couldn't reply to those threads because 1) I am "new" and 2) those threads are practically old now.
So, putting my "noob" status aside, I have this question to ask:
Does anyone know if Google intends to implement a better physical keyboard system into ICS? I'm really annoyed at how poorly implemented the keyboard shortcuts are set up for the OS. I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around how Gingerbread 2.3 implemented up to 26 shortcuts on the HTC EVO Shift 4G, 37 shortcuts for the Samsung Galaxy, yet ICS only has like, what, 10, maybe 15 shortcuts, and within apps a lot of shortcuts that worked in earlier releases of Google OS's suddenly don't work in ICS?
I intend on finding the necessary .PL file in my Android directory to edit and add in shortcuts of my own, but just wanted to know if anyone within the XDA community knows if Google will implement better physical keyboard shortcuts for the OS. Thanks!

If you are rooted and are using a custom ROM. Then you can enable a NAVbar. IN that you can put upto 7 shortcuts. More long press shortcuts. And then enable nav ring. Meaning if u pull up from nav bar then a ring comes up and you can enable more shortcuts here.
Many ROMS enable this, like Icecoldjelly.

Two questions that I have yet to find an answer to:
1) Has anyone tried or found a way to integrate a third-party media player (i.e. PowerAmp, Winamp, Music Mod, etc.) with the HTC Sense lockscreen controls?
2) Has anyone tried or found a way to put application shortcuts into the notification bar, similar to the Recent Apps function in some ROMs? To explain further, this would be custom app shortcuts, user-defined, in an interface like the shortcuts found in Skyraider 3.5.
Thanks for the help!

Bump on music controls
Sent from my infected incredible
I must say, I'm very surprised that no one has anything to say on these subjects...
I sure would like the leaked Honeycomb player with lock screen controls, OR even the Z player with lock screen controls would be great. I even downloaded the motorola (yeah I know sorry) music player and tried it but no lock screen controls. You'd figure with all the mods available some dev could do this, I WOULD PAY YOU FOR IT! Honeycomb with lock screen $____.__ you name the price.
As for the recent apps in notifi bar, I think, but not 100% sure, the Z roms have that.

Not looking for Recent apps, but user-defined apps.
For example, I find myself wanting to be able to access the following apps the quickest: Twidroyd, Google Reader, Miren Browser, and Google Voice. They may or may not be in my recent apps, but with a permanent shortcut in the notification bar I can access them from (almost) any screen. I've used Bar Control and Bartender Lite, and they get the job done for the most part. But they also take up quite a bit of room in the notification panel.
The way that Skyraider implements the recent apps into the header of the notification panel would be great for custom shortcuts, if only someone knows how to do it.
ok, I read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756479 and there were some suggestions like the nolock app, wildpuzzle, etc.
I just got rid of cm7 and testing shooter's newest, and yea the 3.0 lock is slow and annoying, but rather than just removing, I would love the gesture feature that c7 offers. Is there any way/ app that can do that while not on the c7 rom?
I did search and haven't found anything yet.
Tnx
Since the lockring style lock screen is a feature of sense 3.0 and guestures are a feature of AOSP, you couldn't easily swap it out. Only a skilled developer(or group) could get this to work.
On another note, I did see an app that replaced your lock screen with one that has a gesture function...but I read reviews of it not being implemented well.

There is an app (free in market) called no lock that works quite well for removing the lockscreen altogether.
I knew that back in the day on Sense 1.0 roms you could replace the Sense lockscreen with the AOSP one. I think you also had to switch out the clock so that you could dismiss alarms or something.
I never did this because I never run Sense, but I remember reading about it. I also don't know if it works on 3.0 roms, but it could be a place to start.
You could also try WidgetLocker. It doesn't have gesture support, but you can place sliders, shortcuts, and apps on the lockscreen. I know it's not what you're looking for, but it's a much easier solution & a nifty app as well.

Thanks guys. I used nolock in the past and the only issue is it does just that, it removes ALL security. So if I can't get the gesture, I would settle for a pin/pattern, etc. Even though I enable the pattern security, if nolock is enabled, it ignores that so it seems with a sense rom it's either ring + other security or nothing at all right?
Grrrr! Thanks
Hi all,
I have a HTC Desire Z running Audacity Beta 4 (+++)
As far as I can tell, there's no way of configuring a volume toggle in the lockscreen unlike previous ROMs which had this by default. I've seen posts in the Audacity development thread (pages 409-) describing how to add the camera to the lockscreen, however I want to reverse this and re-enable a mute/sound toggle on the lockscreen. I've been into the system->settings->lockscreen but that offers no volume toggle options under apps or activities.
I'm currently working around this by using "Mute" but this seems to be an ugly fix to what seems to be a missing system option.
Does anyone have any better solution or ideas?
Thanks in advance

Well, since you can't disable access to the notification bar, you can use the toggle there.
I just looked into this myself and you're right. I did find a workaround though. If you have Tasker you can make a task that switches toggle states and then bind that task to a lockscreen slot with Task Cut (selectable on the first page).
Granted that won't update your icon, but it's something.
As mentioned above though, you can also toggle it from the power widget in the notification drawer.

Thanks for the responses. As Tasker isn't free I'll stick with the "Mute" app and add that to the lockscreen for now.
The whole point of this was so that I don't have to unlock on the way in/out of appointments etc... I can just wake the screen and swipe left to mute/unmute the phone. Granted it's not a huge amount of effort to unlock and use the power widget in the notifications screen, but it is an extra step and we're all about efficiency (or idleness!)
It just seems odd to me that this should be something that's inbuilt on the lockscreen, but I guess the developers take a different view nowadays. (It would be nice to have options for both camera and mute in the lockscreen options)
I'd like to have a go at creating an app to do this for myself.
Can anyone recommend any threads on how to start development - I'm reasonably ok with programming though I'll freely admit that java's object orientation will be a bit of a learning curve. I'm hoping that this will be a relatively simple task - All I want to do is to mute/unmute from the lockscreen without changing anything else...
I've found these bits of code to play with:
http://stackoverflow.com/a/7318028
http://stackoverflow.com/a/10921268
but where do I start in trying to create an app around this and packaging it? adb? Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm looking for an "android how to write apps" or something like that...
Thanks in advance
[edit] - found the android developers pages now and am starting "my first app" - If anyone has any hints and tips though, they'd still be appreciated. Thanks
Hi everyone!
I've recently bought my beloved Note II in places of an iPhone 4 and I have only two things bugging me.
As you've may already guessed, I seriously need autocorrect.
My experience with other Android devices (namely Motorola Xoom) was perfect minus the astonishingly good performance.
I was able to write quickly knowing that the original Android keyboard will correct every thing for me... but now I can't.
So, is there a way to enable autocorrect on Samsung's TouchWiz keyboard (don't want to lose S Pen functionality)?
Secondly, I only need 5 of the loads of widgets on the notification drawer.
Is there anyway I can modify them to the number and order I want?
Is there any ROM that can fix those problems without losing S Pen apps?
Thank you in advance!
1- No way to enable auto correct in stock samsung keyboard as far as I know. I recommend downloading swiftkey from the android market. It has (in my opinion and many others) the best auto correction/prediction of any keyboard in the world. Granted, it is a paid app but there is a free 30-day trial.
2- You can't modify the notification toggles with stock rom. With certain custom roms, yes.
Just a little info.. the notification thingies that allow enable/disable of wifi/bluetooth etc are called toggles. Widgets are the ones you can put on the home screen.
The problem with having a 3rd party keyboard is when you want to use the S-pen you have to select the samsung keyboard. Try using the continous input option of samsung keyboard, you can swipe which does auto correct / predict.
Hey guys,
i'm getting this weird bug, when pulling down the quick access or the notification panel by sliding down on alternate launchers (like nova launcher), it just shows really really slowly.
Like if my animations speed were set to 4X in developper options, unless it's not.
Only getting this when sliding from anywhere on the screen with gestures function of the launchers, not from the top of the screen like you would do.
Cheers
Known issue in nova on 6.0. Hopefully apps will get updated soon to support this. I live by gestures!
It's only with the gesture that the status bar does that and it's only on alternate launchers (as u said) like nova is where I've seen it as well. If I set a swipe down gesture to show notifications, and I swipe down in the middle of the screen, that will happen.
Doesn't seem like it would be a 6.0 bug

it s not android bug
it s compatibility of launcher
launcher need to get access from accessibility section in setting + some system permissions (i think)
it s not straight forward function to open notification/status bar with codes since android 5
that might cause this issue
