[Q][Resolved] Xperia Arc (SO-01C): Bricked after failed update - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys, I have an Xperia Arc (SO-01C) which was Bricked after a failed update... i know this has probably been asked a couple thousand times here before, but here me out, pls:
1. I found a few (3 or 4) threads in XDA that were about similar/same issue with Xperia Arcs
2. I followed the steps (Some using flashtool and some using the Sony Update Service)
3. Both methods successfully flash the device (or at-least the software says it has)
4. Here's the problem:
After Flashing a sony firmware (Stock) it still will not boot
When pressing the power button the Green LED flashes (at a rate of 1 per second appoximately)
When i plug in the USB cable, it does not charge either (Instead it lights up the GREEN LED, which i think is flashmode)
So any help would be great if you guys have seen this behavior before...
[UPDATE]
Also, i think the Firware on the phone may have been modified cause it is DOCOMO branded, but there is no sim lock, so i think it may have been unlocked by previous owner...
Cheers

Re: [Q] Xperia Arc (SO-01C): Bricked after failed update
Had the same issue after a unsuccessfull kerler flash with flashtool.
I relocked, repaired with pccompanion, but it still didnt boot. Just a green led for a moment flashed.
After a half hour it started automaticly by itself. Guess i was lucky.
How much battery did you have before starting flashing?

Warranty out? For the shop...

Re: [Q] Xperia Arc (SO-01C): Bricked after failed update
No warranty cause it's a docomo branded phone and has been sim unlocked...
Well as promised! Here is my update:
I got Ginger Bread running back on it. They at the shop had SETools and unlocked the bootloader and from there it was smooth sailing.

just follow this instructions @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095656
but you should download docomo firmware 4.0.1.C.1.31 @ http://www.filecrop.com/search.php?...1&engine_h=1&engine_e=1&engine_m=1&engine_4=1
flash it with flashtool 0.6.9.1, dont use latest flashtool because it cannot read the ftf file.
This guide resolves my bricked NTT docomo xperia SO-02c, also updated to andorid 4.0.3..
hope this resolves your bricked xperia.

Download the latest version of the flash tool.
The green light blinks coz there maybe no charge in your phone.
After flashing dont turn on the phone connect it to the charger.
If the sony logo appears then there is nothing wrong with your phone.
If it doesn't appear visit the sony mobile service center.
Hope it helped.

[Q] Arc S bricked because of Xperia Ice Cream Pureness?

Hey, Yesterday I installed Xperia Ice Cream Pureness Rom.
After having a play around I thought most of it was quite good.
I installed some apps that I use daily and went to bed.
Went to work this morning everything was good.
Used the phone a couple of times phone calls, text messages etc etc
At lunch time I went home looked at my phone and it was off. I tried to switch it on nothing.
Tried to pull the battery and switch on... Nothing
Tried connecting to SUS... Nothing
To install I
1. Updated my firmware with SUS doing a clean full install
2. Rooted and installed CWM from the market so I could wipe all data/cache etc etc
3. Installed the .zip and extra pack latest version 8.00
4. Booted and everything was running great
Does anyone know why this would happen?
I am using my arc at the moment as I am taking my Arc S to the shop I got it from tomorrow for them to send to warranty
The status of my phone was totally standard
Sim free factory unlocked
Fastboot enabled but never used
Bootloader locked as never had need to unlock it
Thanks in advance,
Zippy
Try full reflash.
PS: Wrong Forum, post in Q&A
Wasn't quite sure so I am sure a mod can move it
How can I full flash if it is bricked?
No lights no signs of life
Cannot connect to SUS/PC Companion or flashtool
Take battery out for half an hour.
Then connect it while pressing,Back ( left) key. The led should light green. Then reflash with Flashtool.
Sent from my ICS-powered arc S. From Austria! You don't know Austria? Google!
PS: Thank or PM me if you like the Rubiks Cube!
what is your battery states
if its full then there is some seriouse issue
if its not then do charge by any battery charger
and when you get or able to conntect in flash mode do first thing and that is do update you handset with sony Update service not pc compain.
Thanks for your replies

I cannot connect to PC companion anyway as it won't switch on and SUS not detecting
I am aware I have bricked it and not bothered as I sent it for warranty repair today.
The question was does anyone know why this would happen?
I did everything correctly and even installed over a fresh rom with no problems at all
Thanks again
No one?

Not a clue. You said in your first post that you had fastboot enabled but then that you didn't have your bootloader unlocked, well if you hadn't unlocked your bootloader you can't have had fastboot enabled.
Not entirely, fastboot has nothing to do with the bootloader
My phone had fastboot enabled from factory so bootloader unlock is possible official method.
Ah well get my phone back in a couple of days just thought if I could know the issue and if it could happen to others these people could be warned
Thanks everyone for replies

Bricked ION.... need help

So, i have update my ion to ICS LT28h, my wife's ion we waited for the official AT&T update. I downloaded PC Companion, connected the phone, started the update process. I did all i was told on every screen. the phone never updated and now does not power on. no lights when plugged in to charge or connect.

Wrong Section
wrong section
1) hold the power + volume down for like 15 secs...(untill you feel a vibrate)
2) download flashtool at http://androxyde.github.com/
-----Install
3) download whatever FTF you want at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752345
----move it to C:\Flashtool\firmwares
make sure drivers are installed(find them in C:\Flashtool\drivers
4) Launch Flashtool
5)select the thunderbold
----select the ftf
6)insert the micro usb end into phone (leaving the regular usb out of computer)
----it will tell you some instructions on how to flash but they are for different xperia phone
7) while holding the volume down button while the phone is off (From step 1)
insert REGULAR usb into computer
it should say flashing, or your comp might say installing driver, or it might just say drivers not installed..
ONLY IF YOU CHOOSE TO INSTALL LT28H FTF--------------repeat this step but now install the file from (FOR LTE)

If it is an AT&T phone do you really want to update to LT28h?
why not install lt28h
all you have to do is just flash the extra ftf
and then just change the APN
which i as well as spectre have posted

The att version works fine has root and cwm

No reason to use the LT28h anymore since the LT28i and LT28at both have ICS and root.
In hope that someone's still looking at this thread, here is my situation: I tried flashing a prerooted image via fastboot and landed in a Sony bootloop. Then somehow I was stuck in fastboot-mode (led: static blue) and let the phone drain its battery. Now I'm able to get into flashmode but when flashing the chinese FTF with the Flashtool it stops at 1% with status "Processing .......sin" (sorry don't know the file exactly).
When I'm trying to power it up now the Sony logo comes up followed by an exclamation mark in a triangle... could you tell me what options there are left? I saw these prerooted images (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669906), but there is none for the Ion, so I don't know what could be the next step. If I just had back my normal system... I used to flash my Galaxy S many times so I'm not that unexperienced, but it seems I really have a problem here:crying:
Any help is appreciated!

What model are you working with? And where did you get this prerooted image (the one you tried to flash)? From the link you posted I don't see one for the ion. Anyway, based on my own soft brick experience, you'll prolly need to let the phone battery drain, then charge (process can take a day or so), then try and flash your stock FTF via Flashtool.

I have had the 1% happen to me. I just unplug phone close and reopen flashtool and try again. Took me 3 times to get to flash once.
If still no luck, like spectre51 said use repair option in pc companion.

Thx for your hints! It is kinda frustrating to wait until it is fully loaded, then try flashing, then load and wait again... but the 1%-bug seemed to be a major bug as it is fixed now in the new version 0.9.8 of the flashtool.IGonna tray again tomorrow and report my status. I already checked popfan's thread to get a point if mydevice really is bricked or not. So again thanks to all of you!
Just out of curiosity: is there a possibility to flash a prerooted ftf-file? I live in Switzerland where I bought the lt28h version. And I haven't found a prerooted. img file for flashing via fastboot. Just want to root it, custom roms etc. later
Alright, I was able to flash the chinese FTF and got my phone back working:laugh:
But I had to install the newest version 0.9.8 of the flashtool to not get the 1%-bug again. After this roooting via bin4ry's script worked well and now I'm happy happy happy. Thank you all!
I also had problems with flashtool 9.7. I used 9.0 with no problems. Didn't know about 9.8.

as the OP of this thread, thought i'd update. After reading a few threads i discovered the power/volume button trick. tried volume down with no luck, but power and volume up worked. PC Companion did not work in upgrading the phone. just kept telling me to disconnect my battery, and that if the batter cannot be disconnected to skip that step. But it wouldn't go to the next step. So I tried SUS. Worked perfectly.
So, My phone is running lt28h and my wife is on lt28at. There are some differences in the way data is downloaded. looking at my AT&T bill, the data downloads, i assume for apps that get updated, seem to be different sources. also my phone has significantly larger downloads even though we have similar apps. I do have a couple of weather apps she doesn't have that might be responsible for that.
I'd like to do some additional comparisons, but think i'll be flashing the AT&T rom on my phone soon.

Totally Depressed : My Xperia Play is Stuck at Sony Ericsson Text at Boot Screen !

Hello Everyone
I tried to find a solution without troubling anyone, so I searched a lot and a lot of threads all over the internent with no hope . I have tried as many possiblesolutions as I could find even those which are not meant for xperia play. I will explain everythingvery clearly for those who want to help or even try to ...
The Problem :
My Xperia Play suddenly doesn't get pass the Sony Ericsson text at the boot screen which appearsas soon as you turn on the device. It keeps hanging on that white text on that black background for hours until I pull out the battery . I then found out that if I connect my charger before turning on the device it will boot normally as usual . I also found out that as soon as I disconnect the charger cable , the phone will immediately turn off. Another important issue is that even when I mamange to boot the phone normally by the charger , the screen does not respond to my touch even in CWM touch recovery in Doomkernel . Despite that , I can operate the phone completely using the key pad . That means the phone is full functional except for the " boot " and " touch " problems.
What I have done so far :
- I flashed different stock firmware FTF several time via Flash Mode including .42 , .58 enhanced , and .62 using flashtool with flashing ending in success each and everytime .
- I flashed different kernels via Fastboot Mode including DoomlordKernel v14 (GB ) , DoomlordKernel v3 ( ICS ) , and Lupusv11 ( ICS)
- I have accessed CWM recovery serveral times and formated each and everything that could be formatted including data , system , cache ..etc
- I have also tried flashing different ROMs such as NXT 1.3 and Markpython XPlay ICS
- I have put phone in a rice bag in case it had moister or water damage !
- I have disassemble the phone completelypart by part and found nothing damaged so I cleaned it and ressambeled it again
- I have left the phone for days without turning it on . I also tried keeping the battery out for several hours.
- I have used a replacement new battery just in case it was my battery has a problem.
- I relocked my bootloader and repaired my phone via Sony Update Service and the repairing process endedin success.
The results so far :
Nothing changed at all . After doing all of the above and repeating it. I even did more things I can't remember now.Everything is still the same. The phone is stuck at SE text at boot screen and if connected to charger then turned on it will boot normally but the touch screen doesn't respond for some reason I can't figure out , although the digitizer is intact.
What I am doing now :
- I have no more trick to try and I am totally depressed about this ZOMBIE Xperia Play which is half working and half borken.
Thank you very much for your time and for trying to help
I am waiting for your suggestions ...
For your touch screen problem, I doubt that the digitizer is damaged. As for your booting issue, I'm not sure.
looks like the battery doesn't give enough power to the phone

Maybe it is invisabely damaged . However, if I can't fix my boot issue , getting a replacement digitizer is just a waste of money.

The power turns on and the screen turns on when the I power the device. The problem is booting into the system.
It get stuck at Sony Ericsson text . However, it's very mysterious why the phone turns off when the charger is disconnected , perhaps the real question is : how come the battery powers the device but can not boot it and keep it running ?
You didn't say what version is your xperia play is. Is it R800x, R800i, R800a, R800at? If you have the xperia play CDMA version you cant use GSM kernel or roms.
I dropped my phone (after replacing the housing) and had the same thing happen to me. Opened it up again and the digitizer cable was loose. Fixed it for me.
EDIT- My phone would turn on without the need of the cable, but i couldnt mount my sd card/enter mtp unless i connected the usb cable prior to turning it on (so my issue was slightly different).

my phone is only 6 months old ... It runs perfectly when connected to charger but as soon as I disconnect it the phone turns off ... using a new battery doesn't solve the problem ... what could it be that causing this ?!
Final Solution to your problem
You will have to use odin. Just connect it to a laptop/desktop and run Odin. It will fix your problem and if this doesnt work you will have to send it to a Sony centre in your neighborhood. But I am sure odin will fix it. I had a similar problem once. So try odin.

Odin is only for Samsung phones, and I'm having an issue quite similar with my Play R800at. I just got it from a friend. It boots, continues up to ATT screen, then resets. I can't figure out how to boot into recovery, I can't find flashtool, I'm completely lost. I should have stuck with my S3.

Just wondering but did anyone solve the initial issue as the same thing has happened to my xperia r800i
1. Flash ftf with flashtool
2. Flash gb/ics/jb kernel
3. Flash gb/ics/jb rom via the kernel recovery
It should do it but kernel has to match the ROM.
Example: if i want to flash jb rom then I have to flash jb kernel.

[Q] Xperia JB Update Fail

First of all, hope I posted in the right section as I could find a separate Xperia SL forum.
I got a rooted Xperia SL with
Android 4.0.4
version 6.1.A.2.45
I tried to update it to 6.1.a.2.55 (which I guess is JB) using PC companion. The phone turns off, then the PC Companion says to remove da USB cable and reconnect it while holding the volume down button. I tried this a several times but nothing happens. Instead the phone shows the charging battery icon which is shows when it's charging while switched off. And I see a notification on my PC saying USB device not recognized (only when I connect the phone holding the volume down button and it's switched off. It is recognized when I connect it while switched on.)
I'm a noob in android, hope someone would help me out with this.

The best way is to find .55 ROM TFT and flash via FlashTool.
It is known that the jellybean is yet to make an appearance in any part of the world,so I suggest u can wait for the update to have a global reach or unlock your bl and flash the leaked version

I would really suggest you to wait a week or two more and Get the Jelly Bean Update for Your phone.
In any case you will be upgrading to JB after it releases in a week or two.
And for Your Problem,
You can use PC Companion only when two condionts are met.
1. Your device is Not Rooted ( If it is Rooted You Need to Unroot it Back To Use PCC)
2. You need a Locked Bootloader.
Otherwise PCC will not Work!
A word of warning :
PCC May reverse back the changes of flash or prevent from brick.
But OTA updates will brick the phone for sure. If and All you try to Update in rooted and bootloader unlocked conditions.
The best alternative to flash any rom will be using FLASHTOOL by androxyde
http://androxyde.github.io/
Have you tried using SUS instead of PCC..i prefer using SUS over PCC when updating..

[Q] No Flashmode, No Fastboot on Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY

Well this is is What happened. I was trying to install "ICS Neo2Play V2.7" on my "Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY" I tried it twice and I couldn't so I flashed it again to R800a North America. As I couldn't do it I upgraded the "Flashtool! from 0.6.9.1 to 0.9.18.5 and tried to install "Lupus-v12-iCs-720" but I couldn't so I tried to install "ICS Neo2Play V2.7" and nothing so I plug it to flash it again and the Rom R800a wasn't there I didn't notice it and clicked flash so it did it fast and now I have a dead pone, it doesn't enter Flashmode doesn't turn on nothing but when I conect it to the PC the sound plays but that's it. It also doesn't turn on and the LED doesn't blink. HELP....!!! PLEASE.........!!! is there any way to fix it.....???
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.

Good luck
If u flashed x10 relock file, u probably damaged bootloader partition and i dont think u can reapir it in home, without flasmode, coz only thing i can think of (not counting using box) is to flash relock file for 2011 xperias

I messed up my xperia ion in a similiar way. Take out the battery for a few minutes. With the battery out hook it up to the pc. If you can see a dim charging light of any colour your should be able to fix it. Unplug the phone and put the battery in. Without trying to power it on click the back button and connect it to the pc. This may work.
