Wildfire as mpd client remote - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
The Wildfire was my first Android based smartphone and I really loved that device.
But then I brought an Xperia S because the wildfire was too slow and old. But I never forgot that there is an old smartphone.
Today is the day I want to give my wildfire a new life as an mpd (Music player daemon) client remote. There are some Apps dir android in the play store and they all work like a charm.
But I doesn't want to start the app every time I boot the phone to control my music server.
My question: Do you have any suggestions how to do that? I only want a remote for my music.
Maybe it's possible to start an app on boot? Does anybody know how to do that?
Or do you have other solutions?
I'm really happy about every answer.

To make it run on boot my guess would be make it a system app. Get an apk file of the app you are using and then move it to system/app and give it rw-r-r permissions. (R is read and w is write). I think that would do it. However it may not work.

VLC Remote Control App
Hello friend,
Yes it is possible to do this, and the best app I have found for it is VLC Remote which works with VLC Media Player.
Please find attached a setup guide link - HERE

Archos 5 Internet Tablet Media Player Port to Incredible?

I was curious to know if anyone has seen any development in porting the archos media player along with its codecs to android devices? I thought this would be something everyone would've wanted since androids video playback capabilities are quite poor.
Does anyone have an archos 5 with root access that can post the /system/app folder?
I have an archos 5 but its not rooted. lf you know of a method to root it let me know and i'll work on it.

I saw this when i googled rooting the device. I didn't read through the thread to make sure this actually works.

I wish i didn't get rid of my archos 5 when i got my incredible. Ugh....
I just wish there were 2.x roms for the A5IT
Archos Media Player app is awesome
It plays pretty much any movie format. Not only that, it finds movies on any folder on my network, including my DNS-323 (NAS), and streams them w/o any problems.
I wish my Galaxy S could do the same!
I have one of those Archos 32 but the screen broke and I can no longer use it. But hopefully we\ll eventually have Archos media player app on every Androidphone

Xbox 360 Streaming

I have seen this question a few times figured I would post it here .
If you would like to stream the media on your phone on your Xbox there is an app called Twonky Server and it works great. There is a free trial version to make sure if works.

Nice. Not going to lie, I think the one thing Motorola got right with the Droid X (besides build quality) was DLNA certification, sharing stuff with the xbox was so easy. I'm a bit surprised Vanilla Android doesn't include this...
That actually how I found this app in the first place. Liberty 1.5 didn't have it baked in so I used twonky
O!mediashare does this same thing for free without a trial.except I run into problems with some file types.apparently the xbox is very picky about what types of files it can play.unless it is something that has to do with the app itself.

One X to push video to other DLNA devices (theory)

Hello this is just an idea and I hope someone could comeup with something to do this. Now I know that you can install other 3rd Party apps but I like the idea of the three finger swipe and your video popping up on your DLNA capable smart tv or computer client, but after some googling around I couldn't find anything.
So I was hoping I could give someone the idea to create something like this that would trick the phone into sending data to another device than the MediaLink from HTC. Although if I haven't searched around enough and have missed something please could someone point me into the right direction.
Thank you very much
Steven
i dont think it "sends" it merely streams them

Yeah, thats what I meant!
The One X does support DLNA and the music, photo and video apps have a play on function so you can stream to any DLNA device. This principle works fine for my WDTV. Just no gesture which isn't a big deal really.

XBMC is awesome on Nexus 7!

Just installed the pre beta of XBMC on the N7! For a pre beta, this app is really polished. Some buggy touchscreen things on the main skin but the touch skin works awesome. I set up my smb share and it recognized and downloaded all the info for my movies and TV shows. Can't wait to see how this app turns out when its out of beta!
Might I ask where you got the apk from?
I don't suppose its the same as this one is it?
Just about to try that on my N7...

Tested on N7
Tried it out, and it did work with SMB shares right away. Always have loved XMBC on many of my home network devices (wife does too). The resolution needs some work and it would not landscape correctly but all other loved XBMC options were there and it looks really promising! Nice work to the Devs!
Thanks for the heads up, this is exactly what I needed!
Love it!
New to xbmc..
If I'm running xbmc w upnp enabled on my Linux computer, how can I access my videos through the network with this app? Or is there a better way to do this

You shouldn't need xbmc on another machine to get it to work on your android tablet, within xbmc video(or music and pictures), click on on add videos and the choose source and navigate(through SMB shares) to get to the share you want to add. This link will explain how to set it up: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Adding_videos_to_the_library/Adding_media_sources

xbmc is not a host/transcoder software. it plays media, it doesn't stream it to other devices. as another poster mentioned, you are accessing media directly from the smb shares.
OK thanks for your reply. I am relatively new to xbmc. I came from tversity due to the massively better library functionality of xbmc.

I tried the XBMC on the N7 and agree it works well! Going forward, I doubt I'll use this because if I want to watch movies, I just play them via my JB'd Apple TV2 running XBMC. I do however love using the XBMC Official Remote app on the N7. Makes browsing libraries so much easier.
Everything works for me. I, using the channel one repository but I'm only getting the video yo play in SD.. how do I gry HD playback?

Found my Windows share and scraper worked. Playback is smooth even with my big 1080p mkv files.
Impressed.

Can I ask how you got smooth playback? XBMC seems to be only working in software mode as my 720p files are very choppy in this yet smooth in BS Player.
Have anyone made hulu work on it?

Yes you can share videos from your laptop - You can use SMB shares on Windows by setting up a workgroup. Have a look at the XBMC forums as they have a lot of wiki pages with a lot of info.

[Q] looking for a good xbmc client

Hi guys,
I am looking for a goog XCBM client. Main feature should be to easily create and modify (while playing) playlists for music files. It should run on my Android mobile and tablet. I tried XCBM remote, but it does not meet my needs.
Any suggestions?
Thanks upfront
