Think i am ready to take the plunge to root my desire and also install a custom ROM. Just have a few queries that need some clarification and suggestions.
1. My radio version is 5.09.05.30_2 do i need to update this when when installing a custom ROM
2. Suggestions on Sense custom ROMs that have fast kernels with low battery drain. I have read a lot about Cyanogen ROMs which seems quite popular but its a non Sense ROM and would appreciate one with Sense. Kinda Like it.
Thanks in anticipation of the goodies!!
1. See what radio the ROM developer suggests and use that
2. I'd go all out and use the RCMixHD ROM - easily the best Sense-based ROM available and it's based on the Desire HD ROM...but that's just my opinion (wait for the LeeDroid brigade to chime in!!)
I'm far from an expert but i just flashed the latest radio onto my phone and went for LeeDroid 2.2f, which i've been running for a week or two, seems pretty stable so far. I was planning on trying a few ROMs before i get too settled into one.
which radio would that be?
For latest radio, see my signature. But as said, it's best to use the one recommended in the ROM thread if in doubt
LeeDroid seems to be quite appealing at the moment. Any known bugs for 2.2f
Don't know, not a fan of LeeDroid - don't like the custom wallpapers and apps that are used. Prefer mine to look as stock as possible
Which ROMs look as stock as possible?
Teppic's is basically stock with root access and optional extras
I haven't found any bugs at all yet, my current radio is 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27 which definately works fine with LeeDroid 2.2f, well it does on my Desire at least !
Any links to where i could get that Teppic's and is it stable with improved speed and low battery drain? Sorry am asking too many questions
Go look for it in ROM development - it's not that hard to do
What's LeeDroid like on battery?

VillianRom and PinkyDesire are both excellent choices.
LeeDroid Brigade here...... I have tried every ROM possible and the latest LeeDroid offering ,2.2f, is by far the most stable bug free ROM I have ever used. The RCMixHD ROM is very good, if you can live without the camera for the time being.

I get around a day and a half, using generally everything, including Sat Nav.
Hey people. I just bought my Desire HD today, and just finished rooting it. Now, i want the most stable, and performanced rom. I don't want to flash my radio and all that, i just want something that works best (AND DOSEN'T CRASH)
Thanks in advance
Wow... Bought and rooted immediately...
I think the 2 stable one are Cyanogenmod and LeeDroid.
For sense Leedroid is the go. The other sense roms are perfectly stable and usable but Leedroid has a slight edge.
If you want AOSP then Cyanogenmod 6.1.3 is the only choice.

Hi,
I am on Dk_Zero ICS (a discontinued ROM now, btw) and I would like to now if I should change to another ICS ROM, upgrade to a JB ROM, or stay on this ROM.
What do you think about that ?
Thanks in advance.
Since neither work 100%, from that position I'd say upgrade.
And what would you actually recommends in all ROM, GB and other versions included ?

I like this one as well. Otherwise I'd use CronMod by croniccorey. Both seem to be quite stable

the best one is the one that's best for your needs, not what everyone else says is best for them.
try a few and find out...
but if you have already decided that leedroid is the best, i read the last page of the thread and found this link.
also, you should read the FAQ to set it up properly.

erm.. thats JB 4.2.2
I think the fastest is Mild wild sense ROM. But better try them by yourself because it depends what u need from the ROM etc. I personally use RSK 4.2.2 JB non-sense ROM because its the fastest JB (my opinion) and also I use it for about a week and didn't get any soft reboots. Good luck.

@Tobster2113
Hi
I'm new in rooting world! until now I read most of these ROMs threads:
GingerBread (AOSP):
==================================[Version]=================
MildWild GB-1 Based on Solstice ROM--------------------------------------->[v1.0.7/10th/March/2013]
MildWild based on CyanogenMod7--------------------------------------->[CM 8.0 JG Stable/27th/January/2013]
MildWild based on Oxygen 2.3.2--------------------------------------->[v4.9/23rd/January/2013]
MildWild Based on Redux2 TEST--------------------------------------->[v.MW-9.5/5th/March/2013]
Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) AOSP/SDK:
==================================[Version]=================
[ROM/MOD 4.0.4] Marius.a--------------------------------------->[v3.5/8th/March/2013]
And tested these:
MildWild Based on Redux2 TEST--------------------------------------->[v.MW-9.5/5th/March/2013]
&
[ROM/MOD 4.0.4] Marius.a--------------------------------------->[v3.5/8th/March/2013]
I like this ROM: "MildWild Based on Redux2 TEST" be cause It is fast/working all functions except GPRS in my case!! evrything work great and really fast! but after 2 weeks It get slow down!!!
"MildWild Based on Redux2 TEST" was simple at graphics and icons! but that was not important for me! in the other hand "[ROM/MOD 4.0.4] Marius.a" was better in graphics and have some small nice featuers too. but again my GPRS do not work under it and after some hours my WiFi do not work too and some reboot start ........ !!!
as all above friends said, better to test them yourself on your phone but in my opinion it will be wiser that first read most of the users posts/responses at those threads!

yeah,not a sense rom.
Until now best custom ROMs for my Desire /s
..are :
MildWild
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=169552817
Those roms are working for me the best way. Phone is stable and without crashes even thru the fact im apps and tuning maniac
Definitely worth to try them at least.
Hi again m8s
From my last post until now, I was installing and testing this great ROM "MildWild GB-1 Based on Solstice ROM" from MildWild.
For 7 days, It worx great!!! I'm really happy to see not only a Custom ROM work without any problems but also it is much much better than original OS on HTC Desire!!!!!!
Well done MildWild :good:
If @Tobster2113 you did not test it yet, please test it and tell me about your experience! All features are working great and I install some app from Google Play without any problem! (GPRS and WiFi worx without any problems!)
Old School - I've tried most of them, Mildwild makes good roms, used to love his Oxygen ones.
Newer Roms - the RSK one is nice but the open/close app drawer has an non-standard icon and not easily changeable. All of the other JB ones seem very laggy and sooner or later back to Euroskank or a CM7.2.
http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=cm7&device=bravo
These are obviously my own opinions and others may, and are welcome to disagree
Regards,
Jim
leedroid is one the most stable i have used
I wouldn't really call it the best, but the fastest Sense ROM I have ever had is the one in my signature. I need a fast rom, so this is the best for me.
Recently Founded!
Hi again!
Recently I found this site http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/ . I was testing one of theirs Custom ROM for "ZTE Blade" mobile phone and It was so fast and stable.
Therefore, I will test this ROM http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Bravo_Info for "HTC Desire" too! If until now you did not test these ROMs, Maybe It will be help full!
Note: These ROMs use basic functions and features (To be fast and stable) so to do App 2 SD thing you may need to use this: [SCRIPTS]CronMod-INT2EXT (updated 02/28)
I hope this was helpful!
Good Luck
MRK

I just tried Gummy and Slimkat yesterday. Gummy was ok, but no real improvement. I had AOKP 4.2.2 before. If anything, the navigation seemed to be more choppy. So I installed Slimkat and it's great! It's really really smooth and polished. No bugs that I've seen yet. It's fast and still has some of the customization that I wanted. Give it a try. Let me know if you try any other ones.

x2 on playfulgod's rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525351 I have been using the nightley downloads to this rom (ocasionally) and then update to the latest gapps file.
what about the battery life on this ROM ?
Cmetal or omnimetal are great ROMs, I've been on every Cmetal release, with superram kernel, easily get about 3 hours screen time and 10% battery to spare! Been my daily driver for about a month, tried other 4.4 Roms as well, but came back to Cmetal
sent from my GNEX running cMetal 11 Rom
Latest OmniMetal is awesome, great battery life
Could you, please, provide a link with this ROM ?
And by the way, is there a noticeble difference between Android 4.2.2 and 4.4 ?
Thank you

Battery life in my experience has been around the same as Jelly Bean (others may have a different opinion)

HUGE difference
how about a kitkat rom that has a working HD video playback ? most of the roms I tried has problems with HD video playback
I'm referring to the choppy or rubberband effects
Official CM 11 is most stable for me an will always have the best support an regular updates daily to keep it ahead of the rest.
I've tried Omnimetal, cMetal, SlimKat, Beanstalk, and CM11. Without question, Omnimetal is the fastest, it's what im running right now, I have two problems with it, there are very few aesthetic customizations (which includes convenience like quicksettings), and it breaks my wifi, it still works, but the signal is so weak that I have to be in the same room as a router to use it. That being said, I seem to get better service with Verizon running Omni. They're all quality roms, but they all have some bugs. If you want speed go Omni, if you want features, go with Beanstalk or SlimKat.
Been running CM11 nightlies(12/14) with Trinity. No reboots or SOD issues. Bluetooth works, wifi works, good battery. It's about the same as on 4.3 for me.
what about customization ? is like that, also
I tried CM 11 but i don't know how to change the color / size of the soft buttons, battery, clock etc
Any ideas ?
What are the pros and cons in comparison to 4.3 ROMs, like rock-solid Cataclysm 4.3?
Battery life for me is a lot better on 4.4.2 using cm 11.0 than stock 4.3 or any 4.3 rom ever was, also I no longer get all the lag I used to get with 4.3 an the constant bug report alerts which stock 4.3 used to give me in status bar which I found quite odd.For me kitkat is a vast improvement an 4.3 was a complete failure on googles part, well on my gnex anyway stock 4.3 was terrible.
i like omnimetal ..altho shinyrom and tiny's build of cm11 are both nice too...:good:
