Windows is closed-source. It's tough enough for Android devs to port closed-source drivers from their compiled binaries. Porting an entire closed-source OS is virtually impossible. And anyway, Windows is not under an copyleft license, and Microsoft wouldn't permit porting. XDA doesn't want to get sued, so any port wouldn't be on XDA. It's just as likely as an iOS port.
TL;DR: no.

Hello I was just wondering how hard do you think it would be to port the windows 7 os over to the G2? I'm not sure what the win 7 os supports. I'm sure it supports an arm processer. I don't know if there is any win 7 phones out there that have simular hardwere to this phone. Well tell me if you think this is a stupid idea or if it is possable

Besides the dificulty of working with a closed OS, Windows phone seven has some particular requirements of the hardware -- so I don't think it is likely.
No source code = virtually impossible.

Idea: You've already got a good OS on it. Don't waste time crippling it with TRASH. The typical move is to wipe the wimo (or wipo, or whatever the F they feel like calling that garbage now...) trash off hardware and replace it with android. THAT is a real upgrade.
Ah i forgot about it being closed sorce. Im sure someone is ripping it apart right now though lol

Yeah probably, but why would you want to downgrade?
Hey guys,
Just two quick questions here
I ported htc sense 3.0 ROM to HTC desire HD, if I ever want to return to stock ROM do I just format my phone?
Second question is, is there any ROM that is ported from windows 7 phone to HTC desire HD, always wanted to try that xbox live on windows phones.
from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
A1) If you want to go back to the original stock HTC ROM, you need to flash a RUU (you will lose root)
If you want root, you'll find many GB and froyo ROMs out there that are stock-rooted ROMs. Just flash them using CWM recovery.
A2)Not to my knowledge, no.
^^ A1 is answered
A2) There aren't any ROMs at the moment which can be ported to DHD from WP7, it would be too hard to the developers to do so without all of the correct drivers.

Isn't gonna happen if you want to try WP7, may I suggest you buy a WP7 phone
Windows Phone 7 is unlikely to be ported because unlike Android, it is not open source. Microsoft keeps most of the technical information under lock and key. It would be near impossible to port anything of that nature.

He doesn't, he wants to try xbox live on windows phones, which i'm assuming has some fairly hefty DRM which would never survive a kang of WP7 anyway.
Yeah I got that, I just threw in that link there if he might be interested in WP7 in general also, because he asked for a ported rom, not just the xbox live function to be ported.

It would be interesting to see that the hardware could support windows 7 starter.

This isn't possible because the Windows Phone 7 OS is not open like Android. It is locked down by Microsoft and therefore, can only be used by devices that Microsoft allows. If the OS were to be opened, then it might be able to run on the Incredible. The Incredible has better specs than most of the 1st gen Windows Phone 7 devices.

It was originally a wm device. So it was closed source to begin with. Wp7 is closed source. Nothing illegal there

I'm not quite sure what you're asking here. Are you asking that because the HD2 was a Windows Mobile device that it has benefits that other devices do not?

no. I wanted to say that initially htс hd2 was running wm and it gave him of benefits

Oh okay. Yes, the HD2 is one of the most versatile devices in the sense of being able to run different OSes.

Nope. W8 isn't open source.
Sorry the geek that owns Microsoft wont share. Just like apple when they say you want more memory bend over. When I can buy a 32gb micro sd for 20-30 bucks.

Never, nunca, Jamais, aldrig, mai......:silly:
Personally it would be cool. But I didn't by an android to run windows. Its the same reason I sold my iPhone and bought android. I saw all the cool thing my wife could do with her phone. But I've read w8 phone is better then windows phone. It kinda like iPhone owners wanting to run android. If you want to run android on iPhone or w8 on android go buy that phone. If you can afford it of course.

there's a windows 8 launcher too, but i think it's still being translated from Chinese, which is where it came from (chinese app).
well there are at least 2 wp8 launchers available already here in XDA, look it up
I wanted to ask is it possible to make a Windows Phone OS or to port one for Wildfire

Short answer: nope
Long answer: No, because we don't fulfill the "minimum specs" Microsoft put out and because the entire OS is built around WVGA resolution.

And because our devs would get sued. Windows Phone isn't open source.

Probably not.
Look at the HTC HD2.
Runs all versions of WP7 (and a dev build of WP8) and the devs a doing it all without any legal interference from Microsoft.
What you could do is install a windows 7 launcher.

Yea but normally Windows Phones use the hardware Microsoft told the Manufacturer to use.
Texas Instruments, and such, i think... Just look at them, mostly all Windows Phones look the same!!
It's probably a lot easier to deploy a WP7 rom than an android one.

Again, read the post I quoted to know why I put the HD2 in my post.
And the processor required for WP isn't a TI OMAP, it's the Qualcomm Snapdragon series.
Dudes would you stop this argument i just asked can our phone be WP and you started to argue about stupid things.
Cut it off!
Cheers
