Nope. W8 isn't open source.

Sorry the geek that owns Microsoft wont share. Just like apple when they say you want more memory bend over. When I can buy a 32gb micro sd for 20-30 bucks.

Never, nunca, Jamais, aldrig, mai......:silly:

Personally it would be cool. But I didn't by an android to run windows. Its the same reason I sold my iPhone and bought android. I saw all the cool thing my wife could do with her phone. But I've read w8 phone is better then windows phone. It kinda like iPhone owners wanting to run android. If you want to run android on iPhone or w8 on android go buy that phone. If you can afford it of course.

[Q]2 questions in 1

Hey guys,
Just two quick questions here
I ported htc sense 3.0 ROM to HTC desire HD, if I ever want to return to stock ROM do I just format my phone?
Second question is, is there any ROM that is ported from windows 7 phone to HTC desire HD, always wanted to try that xbox live on windows phones.
from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
A1) If you want to go back to the original stock HTC ROM, you need to flash a RUU (you will lose root)
If you want root, you'll find many GB and froyo ROMs out there that are stock-rooted ROMs. Just flash them using CWM recovery.
A2)Not to my knowledge, no.
^^ A1 is answered
A2) There aren't any ROMs at the moment which can be ported to DHD from WP7, it would be too hard to the developers to do so without all of the correct drivers.

Isn't gonna happen if you want to try WP7, may I suggest you buy a WP7 phone
Windows Phone 7 is unlikely to be ported because unlike Android, it is not open source. Microsoft keeps most of the technical information under lock and key. It would be near impossible to port anything of that nature.

He doesn't, he wants to try xbox live on windows phones, which i'm assuming has some fairly hefty DRM which would never survive a kang of WP7 anyway.
Yeah I got that, I just threw in that link there if he might be interested in WP7 in general also, because he asked for a ported rom, not just the xbox live function to be ported.

It would be interesting to see that the hardware could support windows 7 starter.

[Q] Windows Phone 7 ROM ported to the Inspire/DHD?

Hey guys,
I was looking over at Windows Phone 7 the other day and I noticed that the UI looks really cool! I don't want to buy a windows phone, but I also found out that the HTC HD2 can dual boot windows mobile and android at the same time. THe HD2 also has a snapdragon, so would it possible to port it over to the Inspire/DHD? Im not sure if this is possible, but I wish i could get the UI, cuz it looks really cool! Thanks!
I asked the same question a while back. Basically, WP7 is a closed source UI. Porting it to DHD or any other phone for that matter would be a breach of tos blah blah blah... Just search and you'll find all about it.

Hmm ok thanks for the reply. Would it be possible to make a ROM that looks like it? Not necessarily a port?
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using XDA App
Nope, unless you want your ass sued by windows...
If you know how to pull it off I guess you could make one just for your self but other then that nothing...

[Q] Dualboot?

Is it possible to have a Galaxy nexus and dualboot it with windows 7.5?
Thanks
I'm not going to say anything is impossible... but no. Not easily at least.
Even if you could get it on there drivers would probably be a big issue. It would take a lot of development to get things working properly. You'd have a lot of obstacles to overcome as well such as the lack of physical buttons.
Good luck
The Q&A threads are to be posted here.

Nope.
Even if you somehow got it running it would still be illegal.
And to even try you would need the source code.
It simply won't happen.

WP7 is closed source. Not gonna happen.
Buy a Windows Phone
And I am willing to be op wants this just so he can show his friends and the only effort put into it was getting on the internet. Drivers, ram, code, and development would be only the smallest of obstacles if downloading and flashing it were your goals. The windows phone can be had over there.

I'll wait for windows 8. Windows phone 7 is just a temporary solution from microsoft to stop apple and android from dominating the market. No doubt it is decent but it's still in its infancy and doesn't have a lot of apps.

Yeah that sure worked out for Microsoft. They sure took away that 1% of market share. They should be proud.

yeah well they tried and failed. even the director of wp7 developtment admitted defeat a few months ago . Personally I think it is a very decent platform. I really like its elagant user interface but if I just wanted ui I would've stayed with ios.
The reason wp7 didn't take off was because it was too late and there was no demand for it, not because it sucked.
I have dual boot Mango and ICS on my HD2.
Believe me, WP7.5 has a beautiful layout and the best keyboard, but besides that it's way inferior when compared to Android and iOS. Very lame browser and the apps have less options. It's fun to play with for a day, but more than that you'll get really frustrated.

The HD2 is a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone that you can install Mango on and dual boot into Android since other Android phones are very similar to.

Adding to what he said, since the hd2 already had windows on it it allowed It to be easier to port it onto, I think test builds where also made for it too. And since android is open source it was easy to port over( not really but easy for a dev). You'd have better luck buying a windows phone and dual booting that with android

If you could run another mobile OS on the Galaxy Nexus, what would it be?

I thought this would be a fun thread.
Firefox OS is already becoming a reality, btw. Somebody has already started porting it to the Gnex here, but beware, it's a pre-alpha.

No, I get you, but that's not what I meant. If I wanted a windows os I would have bought a phone that already runs one. Same way, if it were possible to run android on iphone, I wouldn't buy iphone to do that. I would buy iphone to run ios, right?
Now, I do get that it's awesome to play around, have something different, impress your friends, etc, but I bought my phone to run android. that's me.

Any info about ubuntu on android.. i want to apply in my Galaxy Nexus.. interested

The reason I have a Nexus is that I want to run the latest version of Android. So, nothing.
I'd like to be able to try out windows phone, buy prob not as a daily driver. What I would like would be some sort of Ubuntu implementation where it ran both Ubuntu and android depending on whether it was docked or not.
I would want to stick to Android, but run it on Nokia hardware. No one comes close to their quality, albeit diminished as of late.

Web os or windows phone. Or Meego.
Definitely meego with a dalvik machine for android apps
I think Mozilla's B2G shows a lot of promise. I like the concept.

Tizen for sure. Meego's real time multitasking was awesome. Same with Maemo.
W8 could be nice, but for that I'd probably prefer getting a w8 phone, from my experience with HD2,dual booting was annoying.

There are several apps on the play store that add Ubuntu or Debian to the gnex. My favorite one was Debian Kit, which let you put either Debian or Ubuntu on your phone side by side with Android. I'm not sure if it works with Jellybean, though. Really nice to have mc, vim or joe, GCC, package management, X, etc available.
Well... in smartphones we don't have many choice... So I would say windows 8, no windows phone I mean PC windows..

Windows is closed-source. It's tough enough for Android devs to port closed-source drivers from their compiled binaries. Porting an entire closed-source OS is virtually impossible. And anyway, Windows is not under an copyleft license, and Microsoft wouldn't permit porting. XDA doesn't want to get sued, so any port wouldn't be on XDA. It's just as likely as an iOS port.
TL;DR: no.
