Hi,
I'm look for help to find an Android podcast with similar functions to Downcast from iOS side.
Downcast allows a video podcast to carry on playing as audio when I press the home button or press the power button.
I tried DoggCatcher, BeyondPod and Pocket Casts, all of them don't offer that function.
Another minor function I'd like to have is able to sweep left and right on screen to go back and forward with video.
I've looked through some threads, but can not find an Android app does the above.
Could somebody please suggest some apps for me to try?
Many thanks
I'm not on Gnote2 yet, but I use beyondpod and it does allow me to do video as audio with screen off. There's actually an option in the settings to "continue video play with screen off"
The only other podcast player I've used is Ratpoison. It's not nearly as cool as beyondpod, but it's free...so no harm checking it out

I use this free one on Galaxy Note 2 :
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bambuna.podcastaddict
Dog catcher does that. Press and hold then select play as audio.

I'm looking for app recommendations.
Ever since I began using devices to stream internet video content to my TV, I've been looking for this.
I want an app that will run on AFTV (I'm rooted and can sideload etc) in which I can easily subscribe to a bunch of video netcasts, and then have a playlist with all of them in chronological order when I want to sit down and watch them, preferably streamed. The key requirement here that is eluding me is the playlist of episodes from all of my subscriptions.
I used BeyondPod for audio netcasts on my phone. I've used it on my Nexus also, but it was slow and clunky on the AFTV and difficult to control with the AFTV Remote or with a keyboard+touchpad.
Hi there,
How can I record the music I am listening to while recording video? I want to capture the moment with the music I listen to . It always stops the music playback when a video starts recording. I use the integrated camera app. Stock Android 8, rooted.
Thanks everyone.
Don't think you can, but use the video editor afterwards to add that same track, only takes a few seconds
That is not working as I need tune perfect recording of the exact moment the track is played. I cannot post that.
Which app do I need or which firmware allows that simple function? I remember my old phones being able to do that.

No firmware will allow it, you'll have to look for an app on the play store
Personally I would just edit the audio/video on PC
At least you could edit the mp3 in Audacity on PC to have it start at the perfect place, then use the video editor on Android to add that mp3
Spotify + Instagram?
You can install the "Sound Assistant" from the Galaxy Store and then enable the Dual-App-Sound (in your case, the "sound"-app). Then you can start recording with the camera, and the phone keeps playing the audio, but the Quality won't be the best, because it's recording the sound from the microphone and not internal.
Can confirm
Can confirm. Dual app sound in Sound Assistant and select your camera as the second app will allow you to play music while recording a video. I also suggest (if applicable) making sure that your setting for your volume control in your camera settings are set to system control and not take pic or start video.
Spotify + Instagram works perfectly!

I opened up Spotify and selected the song and then recorded the video through Instagram and it worked perfectly. Thanks!
Disclaimer: I am not interested in any cracked apps. I am open to app clones from reputable developers that remove adverts on websites like XDA Developers.
I have moved away from Spotify premium on my Android phone, in favour of Spotify Lite (no ads), YouTube Vanced, and YouTube Vanced Music. Using Set Orientation for Spotify Lite on my Shield TV works great, but most of the time you have to guess what is actually selected on screen as this does not highlight, and you cannot cast from Spotify Lite on another device. If you already have it running on Android TV and you open it on your phone (with the same account) and select something the UI will not respond on the phone but it will start playing on the TV. This could work but the drawback with this is that if you leave it running and you are not at home trying to use Spotify Lite your songs will only be playing at home, not to mention if you want to play music on your phone and someone else wants to use the Shield.
There are ads when casting from YouTube Music Vanced to the Shield - on the Shield.
Google Home does not yet allow adding the Shield TV to a speaker group
Smart YouTube TV works great on Android TV, there are no ads but if you try to have audio only by going to your homescreen it pauses playback.
Is there some way to do this? I am happy to root the Shield if necessary.
Have you tried Newpipe? No ads and has background player. You can get it from fdroid or official site https://newpipe.schabi.org/

Yes, I have Newpipe and Smart YouTube TV installed but when I cast from my phone it the music or music and video play using Chromecast and I still experience ads.
I also found with Newpipe that you cannot login so I cannot access my saved playlists or recommendations etc.
Have you had a different experience?

Didn't know that for login as I'm not using google account. I bookmark playlists directly in Newpipe.
As for ads when casting that has to do with Chromecast. Chromecast is getting stream directly from router, not your phone. I believe you will have to block ads either directly on Shield with an ad blocker or on network level by using ad-blocking dns or pi-hole.
The FTVstick doesn’t have a separate YouTube music app, it uses the standard YouTube one.
Every time I press the home button, the music stops despite me having a YouTube music sub
I’d like the music to keep playing so I can load up projectM for visuals!
has anyone found a workaround?

Have you tried installing the YT vanced app on your device?
I know the unrooted version via vanced manager apk seems to play nicer.
https://github.com/YTVanced/VancedManager/releases (goto assets)
You will need otg mouse/ keyboard for these apps to work properly but background play does work on normal yt vanced I use it on my 4K
