What did you do b4 this happened to you? Like the above poster said, did you drop the phone? Did you previously have a custom Rom? What recovery your running? CWM or TWRP?? There are a lot of possibilities that could have caused that. :what:
The reason I asked all that because I had a similar issue happen to me messing around with a bootanimation. After putting it on my phone my screen would just stay black with all sounds working?
If you have a back (nandroid) up of the previous Rom, stock Rom you had on your phone b4 this issue I would put that back on there. Should fix your problem. Because after I restored my back up. Everything was back to normal..

Help with phone please

OK guys I was on FB17. I wanted to flash the deodexed version so I flashed the temp touch recovery. I went to wipe data and it froze. I held power down and the phone wouldn't go past the black samsung galaxy SII screen. So I went into download mode to Odin el29. It hangs on data.img everytime. I tried like 8 times( I Odin all the time and never had one fail before) so then I try the el29 that doesn't wipe data. It flashes fine but the phone boots into stock recovery and just gives errors saying data directory does not exist. How can I fix this? Sounds like my data partition is messed up and thats why Odin hangs on data.img

Yeah, that's what happened to me. I had to take it in to a Sprint repair center, and even they couldn't fix it. I had to have mine swapped for a new one. Seems like the Touch CWM is borking data partitions.

This sucks. I even tried to use repartition with a pit file and it still hangs on data.img. I've never had this happen before. Like I said I've Odin with this phone like ten times and never had one fail.

Doesn't seem to happen to everyone, but everyone that I've talked to today that has bricked their phone has used CWM Touch right before doing so.

I didn't have this problem after I installed Triune II, but if you suspect the ROM is related, do a backup and install a different ROM to see if that resolves the problem..... just a thought and takes less than 5-10 min.
What does the screen look like in download mode or in CWM?

[Q] Bricked T-mobile S3 can anything be done.

Ok so long story short my S3 is hard bricked. This was my first try at doing my own root and rom install. Im not sure where I messed up at.
1. I got a toolkit from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1746682
2. Backed up all system files with the toolkit, and saved pics to my computer.
3. downloaded oden and clockworks restore (cant remember the name)
4. did factory reset
5. cleared cache
6. then installed the S3 rom I got from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1663656
I followed all the instructions as best I could and it still messed up. is there anything I can do to reset it back to default??
Nothing comes on. no lights, no screen, no sound. only thing I get is if I take out the battery and plug it up i get a led light for about 12 secs.

I know on my old Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S) it was practically impossible to brick the phone completely. You could always access download mode to restore the ROM using ODIN.
How to enter download mode on Samsung Galaxy S3
Volume down ,home, and power until the warning.
http://youtu.be/0BJlfbZNB-I
Please note I have no experience flashing ROMs on the S3 as of yet. I plan to flash the new OTA update with root already injected tomorrow.
The first time I flashed a ROM using ODIN, it screwed up somehow and of course the phone didn't work. I was freaking at that point. Then I read about download mode and was able to flash the ROM successfully.
Your best option is jtag. I flashed an incorrect rom and had to replace the main board on my SGS3 as the jtag didn't work for me.
If you're in the USA this is the person to go to, they are linked everywhere on xda

I just want to say one thing: If you can somehow enter the download mode (USB jig...), it's NOT a hard brick. It's soft brick.
PS: I don't have S3, I've just seen this thread.

If you click the ROM link that you yourself posted in the OP it's clearly to the international GS3 forum.

I cant get into any kind of menu I have used every button combo I can think of. I also tried to offer it money, drugs and sex....I got nothing...
In the rom thread I used where does it say that the phone was the international version? I called myself reading the thread before I tried anything.

It's from the international section, anything from the international section will brick our phones, they are completely different, they have 4 cores and 1gb ram, we have 2 cores and 2gb ram. The only roms that are safe to flash are the ones in the T-Mobile galaxy s3 section
You can give it all the drugs and sex you want but the only thing that will help it is a jtag

ok thankx alot. So from checking the net my options are to pay 60$ for a jtag, play dumb for t mobile and get it replaced since they wont be able to turn it on. or buy a new phone. Is there any cons to the t mobile rote? I mean what are the chances of it biting my in the rear?
Personally I would get it jtaged. Rather than have Tmobile take care of your mess up and passing the cost on to the rest of their consumers.

Help... Bootloop? But not a bootloop? Confusion.

Rooted my i317 2 days ago with the "no triangle counter" method. All was good, got TWRP installed, nandroided stock and did my thing. Been rooting phones for many years and have yet to brick anything *knocks on virtual wood*. Installed paranoid android, and all was awesome. Decided to give another rom a try... Cant remember which, but im not thinking thats the issue.
Wiped, flashed, no errors, rom booted normally, but as i unlock the device i get three force close errors. Then reboot. Over and over. Restored three different backups and all three do the same thing. Never run into this one before. Admittedly i am worried. Not a rich man and bought this phone outright...
I am hoping flashing in odin the original root tar file will correct the issue. But honestly wanted to do some reading and post this first. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I957 using Tapatalk
Did you try flashing a touch wiz kernel before going back to a nandroid? If not try that and if so try a factory reset and then a good old reboot!
I assume you tried a cm10.1 rom?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Same thing happened to me and I did just use odin to push that tar file through, rerooted, and flashed in my rom. That to me seems to be the fix for the bootloop imo. But someone with more knowledge could correct me if im wrong. Probably didnt help you any but just thought I would share my experience and fix when I was in the same position.
Sent from my SGH-I317 using xda premium
Both of you are good people. Alleviated is a drastic understatement. Was afraid it was a bad internal storage (bad hard drive) and was an issue limitec to my device. Others have done it, it can be fixed.
Cheers, gonna odin reflash now. If not will figure it out.

Help full group over here, Appreciated greatly. Ive messed up a couple devices pretty good in my day, but never beyond repair. Always credited to people round these forums.
The factory reset didnt seem to help. But if system apps are missing... Reflashed the original tar file, and am just sitting here with a lump in my throat watching the Samsung logo hang...
Anyone got a link for the original rogers firmware?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I957 using Tapatalk 2

Thanks guys, **** not so bad when ya got communication in a forum.
Cheers

What I did when it was stuck at the Samsung logo was I took out the battery> held down volume up, center home, and power to go into the system and did a factory wipe> then it pulled through nack to stock. Give it a try and keep me posted.
Sent from my SGH-I317 using xda premium
I tried the factory wipe through the cwm recovery included, didnt work. Was still stuck on samsung logo. Reflashed with odin a second time which allowed a successful boot and recovery of my paranoid android backup. Im good to go... Gonna do some more reading though. Im missing something important with this phone. Moving from 4.1 to 4.2 roms or vice versa seems to be... Weird.
Anyways all good. Thanks.

Dropped phone on the ground and it doesn't boot

So yesterday, I was clumsy and I let my phone drop on my floor in the room. I have the Laza and case and the battery. I quickly picked it up and put my battery inside and put the case inside. I turned it on. I'm running stock. It turned on and displayed the T-Mobile, SGH-T989 and loading bar. It loaded all the way, but didn't go past that screen. So I proceeded to turn off the phone and restart. It worked and booted successfully. then for some reason I wasn't convinced. So I restarted again. After that it hasn't booted past the SGH-T989 screen. I went to TWRP and it was asking me for a password when I never added a password. I think my phone is messed up. My phone is working fine with AOSP, but on stock it messes up. I put back on stock yesterday and it was working fine. However, today on the bus, it restarted by itself and it didn't boot past that dreaded screen. What can I do?

I bop between Stock 4.1.2 and CM 10.1 (Stable 4.2.2). I thoroughly wipe with super wipe before I flash Stock or any ROM regardless.
