Ok so long story short my S3 is hard bricked. This was my first try at doing my own root and rom install. Im not sure where I messed up at.
1. I got a toolkit from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1746682
2. Backed up all system files with the toolkit, and saved pics to my computer.
3. downloaded oden and clockworks restore (cant remember the name)
4. did factory reset
5. cleared cache
6. then installed the S3 rom I got from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1663656
I followed all the instructions as best I could and it still messed up. is there anything I can do to reset it back to default??
Nothing comes on. no lights, no screen, no sound. only thing I get is if I take out the battery and plug it up i get a led light for about 12 secs.

I know on my old Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S) it was practically impossible to brick the phone completely. You could always access download mode to restore the ROM using ODIN.
How to enter download mode on Samsung Galaxy S3
Volume down ,home, and power until the warning.
http://youtu.be/0BJlfbZNB-I
Please note I have no experience flashing ROMs on the S3 as of yet. I plan to flash the new OTA update with root already injected tomorrow.
The first time I flashed a ROM using ODIN, it screwed up somehow and of course the phone didn't work. I was freaking at that point. Then I read about download mode and was able to flash the ROM successfully.
Your best option is jtag. I flashed an incorrect rom and had to replace the main board on my SGS3 as the jtag didn't work for me.
If you're in the USA this is the person to go to, they are linked everywhere on xda

I just want to say one thing: If you can somehow enter the download mode (USB jig...), it's NOT a hard brick. It's soft brick.
PS: I don't have S3, I've just seen this thread.

If you click the ROM link that you yourself posted in the OP it's clearly to the international GS3 forum.

In the rom thread I used where does it say that the phone was the international version? I called myself reading the thread before I tried anything.

It's from the international section, anything from the international section will brick our phones, they are completely different, they have 4 cores and 1gb ram, we have 2 cores and 2gb ram. The only roms that are safe to flash are the ones in the T-Mobile galaxy s3 section
You can give it all the drugs and sex you want but the only thing that will help it is a jtag

ok thankx alot. So from checking the net my options are to pay 60$ for a jtag, play dumb for t mobile and get it replaced since they wont be able to turn it on. or buy a new phone. Is there any cons to the t mobile rote? I mean what are the chances of it biting my in the rear?
Personally I would get it jtaged. Rather than have Tmobile take care of your mess up and passing the cost on to the rest of their consumers.

Thanks! Haven't touched Odin in a while, I'm a few updates back. Good to see it'll work on our new phones... now... how come nobody has root yet?
Comming from a Evo 4g...was wondering...I looked at this and it says to hit the 1 key...I am guessing we do not need to do this for the E4T ? And I guess Odin is what we use to flash things to the phone ?
When I did the Evo, I had to do the old school root. Unrevoked and all that was not around lol..
What is Odin?
Just found out I get the phone for free with cyanogen working for Samsung will the phone be worth it or should I stick with my Evo 3d and Droid x? Plus never used Odin before really just helped people root their phones with it along time ago it just unlocks the phone right?

I think I read already. There were screenshots already posted. I should also have this Friday morning if Sprint doesn't open it up Thursday night or Best Buy even.
Correction. This was posted in E4GT General.
You get to *odin mode* by holding down volumne + and - keys at the same time along with the power key, release power key when device turns on while continuing to hold + and - keys untill the droid guy screen comes on, then release.
Glad to see you over here by the way Crawrj. I take it your upgrading as well. Look forward to your first plus kernel for this thing.

yeah like deano said, you can flash ANYTHING. once AdamOutler gets started on development for our device, we will be able to flash custom bootloaders like the Captivate can, for those who dont know, the Captivate was recently able to flash the Nexus S bootloader which means it is basically a Nexus S in disguise lol. Odin will also let us falsh stock and custom ROMs and kerenls as well as Modems (radios) plus recoveries such as CWM.
Also if anything screws up its ur way outta trouble...things such as "omg i'm bricked" and "help i'm stuck on the boot logo" won't be seen as much in the Q and A section as much... get to know Odin referring to people coming from EVO or any other phone Odin is ur new bff

Sounds cool. Ahh starting the learning all over again lol.
Odin is great. It was almost impossible to brick the Epic with it. If you get any kind of phone life, you can almost always get it back to stock and start again. Also, 30 seconds to flash a different modem. We had some great stock GB leaks with Busybox,Superuser included (thanks Crawrj.) Great tool.

Its really not that involved. All you do is put a tar file in "phone" and a pit file in "Pit" and select run and let it do its thing. Modems get flashed in "PDA" section and that's basically it. There is more detail but that's a quick rundown. I am not the most tech saavy myself but you catch on quick. I have used it 50+ times. I will try to run down a more thorough description.

Do you want help or not? The E4GT is a very difficult phone to brick and 9 times out of 10 when a noob thinks their phone is bricked, it's actually easily recoverable. But if you don't help us help you, you might as well just toss the phone down the garbage disposal.

LMFAO ha +1 made my day. Still, I think it must be hard to drop to this level of brain capacity.
Rooted...no issue there.
Installed ROM Manger.
Installed Clockwork Recovery from Rom Manager as I wanted to install a new rom.
Now when I boot, no matter what combination I hold down, it goes to the Android System Recovery screen and in the background is the white triangle, yellow exclamation point and little android guy.
I can move between the three ofered choices but pressing the power button (I assume this is the OK button) does nothing.
Thoughts / help?
Does your computer recognize it? If it does you should try adb download and see if you can get into download mode

Just realized I posted the question in the wrong forum as well.
Computer makes a noise as though it knows it's connected, yet it doesn't show up and odin and kies don't find it either.
I think home button is select and power button is back, but I haven't used stock in a long time, so might be remembering incorrectly.
I suggest you don't use Rom Manager to install recovery. It doesn't work properly for this phone and could lead to non-recoverable problems.
Read this thread and you'll have references to everything you need to undo and start from scratch:

I came over from an Evo and believe me everything pointed to not use Rom Manager when I had my phone as well. I agree that if people took the time to read properly they would see that Rom Manager and a few other crazy things they do are not suggested. But they make sure to have time to post and read their threads when they screw up. Honestly with all the brick laying and blue light specials up in herrre. Do you really need to post your problem and how do you fix it...
His problem is one of 100 exactly the same in here and instead of searching and helping himself he did the same lazy thing that got him stuck in the first place. Then too lazy to find out how to work CWM. Quite sure he will be back again if he keeps up this route... @OP not trying to be an ass but just hate to see people who don't want to help themselves.
Sorry to hear that you've bricked OP. Hope you can get a replacement and get back into owning your phone.
Here's what I've done to avoid bricking since I am also somewhat new to the E4GT...
Read the forums on XDA.
Observed what others are doing that worked.
Didn't flash anything you are unsure of.
Became familiar with ODIN.
Stayed away from ROM manager.
Flashed using el29 rogue recovery only. (I've been successful with this so far, others say to use el26.)
Wipd cache/dalvik-cache/data/system.
Purchased mobile ODIN, $5 is better than the deductible to get a replacement.

I bricked but it was a bad recovery well not bad just messy team trolls recovery bricked me 2 weeks ago wiping Cache . But as always when u post questions like this here ur gonna hear it lol but searching helps.
Now if its hard bricked ud not even get to recovery at all just a blue light and a black screen that if is ur case unplug it cause it runs the battery super hot .
If not in that position than try power and volume down if it does not bring u to download mode to Odin another recovery if that don't work idk

Porting was needed for CWM recovery. Not ROM Manager. Support for ROM Manager comes from device devs, not koush. In the form of uploading vetted software, that doesn't corrupt. It is a universal starting point, not a fully functional product.
But regardless, I wasn't even talking about it's support. I was saying people other than ones with HTC devices can get into the habit of using ROM Manager.

Doesn't matter the recovery is in the kernel and rom manager will not work on this phone ....there is no separate recovery partition and ROM manager won't flash the recovery right on here since it's part of the kernel partition.koush doesn't really care he made it to temporarily flash a recovery like touch that might work if not for ics kernels... The thing is it doesn't work people should not rely on it like a crutch

ok so I was flashing (experimenting) Skyrocket ROMs for my Hercules. So I was kinda going crazy on the flashing since I was bored so flashed this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560759
BTW it was NOT SKYROCKET ROM, this is ATT GS2 which is completely different than Skyrocket. Skyrocket ROM is compatible with our device, just FYI
Anyways, boom the installation was snap and it rebooted automatically as it said on the OP. Then the phone just went black... wouldn't turn on, nothing. I pulled the battery and inserted nothing.... I was like WTF that I did..... of course it BRICKED!
I was going crazy (well not really lol). Luckily I still have warranty so called T-Mobile and got it replaced, will be here next week.
Well the point is READ READ and READ before you flash anything, I got lucky since I have warranty but not everyone.

You need to fix this post.. The rom you flashed was not for the SkyRocket but was for the ATT SGS 2 which is totally different phone.. PLEASE PLEASE dont start another Rumor that Skyrocket roms are not safe.. because they are.

Not sure why you posted this.. there was no question.. this is Exactly what I said. Not a Skyrocket rom so it should have been obvious it wouldn't work.
But unless you follow the link and see its for the ATT SGS 2, the OP leads you to believe he bricked flashing a Skyrocket Rom and that's misleading and should be corrected to reflect that.

If they werent, then please explain why at&t released two desperate phones near the same time branded the "galaxy s2". Lol. Good luck on your search.

No dude. We all get that. I'm still waiting for you to admit this had nothing to do with a Skyrocket rom or radio. You need to edit your origanal post to reflect that.
EDIT : nevermind you did that already.

Unless the partition was overwritten that contains DL mode then it will ALWAYS work.. .
Also did you try ..
1. remove battery.
2. plug in phone to usb on computer with battery STILL OUT
3. while plugged in hold down volume up and down.
4. Still plugged in and still holding the volume up and down, insert your battery.
5. boom choose continue and find download mode
Usually foolproof.

Look at the ROM's title
Rooted my i317 2 days ago with the "no triangle counter" method. All was good, got TWRP installed, nandroided stock and did my thing. Been rooting phones for many years and have yet to brick anything *knocks on virtual wood*. Installed paranoid android, and all was awesome. Decided to give another rom a try... Cant remember which, but im not thinking thats the issue.
Wiped, flashed, no errors, rom booted normally, but as i unlock the device i get three force close errors. Then reboot. Over and over. Restored three different backups and all three do the same thing. Never run into this one before. Admittedly i am worried. Not a rich man and bought this phone outright...
I am hoping flashing in odin the original root tar file will correct the issue. But honestly wanted to do some reading and post this first. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try flashing a touch wiz kernel before going back to a nandroid? If not try that and if so try a factory reset and then a good old reboot!
I assume you tried a cm10.1 rom?

Same thing happened to me and I did just use odin to push that tar file through, rerooted, and flashed in my rom. That to me seems to be the fix for the bootloop imo. But someone with more knowledge could correct me if im wrong. Probably didnt help you any but just thought I would share my experience and fix when I was in the same position.

Both of you are good people. Alleviated is a drastic understatement. Was afraid it was a bad internal storage (bad hard drive) and was an issue limitec to my device. Others have done it, it can be fixed.
Cheers, gonna odin reflash now. If not will figure it out.

Help full group over here, Appreciated greatly. Ive messed up a couple devices pretty good in my day, but never beyond repair. Always credited to people round these forums.
The factory reset didnt seem to help. But if system apps are missing... Reflashed the original tar file, and am just sitting here with a lump in my throat watching the Samsung logo hang...
Anyone got a link for the original rogers firmware?

What I did when it was stuck at the Samsung logo was I took out the battery> held down volume up, center home, and power to go into the system and did a factory wipe> then it pulled through nack to stock. Give it a try and keep me posted.

I tried the factory wipe through the cwm recovery included, didnt work. Was still stuck on samsung logo. Reflashed with odin a second time which allowed a successful boot and recovery of my paranoid android backup. Im good to go... Gonna do some more reading though. Im missing something important with this phone. Moving from 4.1 to 4.2 roms or vice versa seems to be... Weird.
Anyways all good. Thanks.
