My Verizon Galaxy Nexus isn't picking up any cell service. I updated to CM10.1 (Android 4.2.2) mid-February and noticed my phone was showing no bars of service more often then with CM10. Even with no bars I still had "some" service and was able to make calls usually. Last week I updated the radios on both my Dad's and I's GNs to the 4.2.2 radios. For my phone I used the radio files from MWalt's thread, for my Dad's I used the ones directly from Mark Manning's radio thread. I didn't realize they were different versions and that MWalt's may have been patched.
I came back to my parents house this weekend, they have a network extender. My phone again was showing no bars but did have the little "R" indicating a Network Extender. Having little (to no) service even with the network extender was causing my phone to die very quickly. Today I was doing some errands (to places where I should have service), for the first 10 minutes of driving I had no bars but did have the 3G indicator and was able to make calls. Once I got to a certain point my service cutout completely. For the the next 4 hours I had zero service and couldn't make any calls (again in areas where I should have had varying amounts of service). Driving back once I got to the same spot where I lost service, no bars of 3G service returned and I was able to make calls. When I reached home, I again had no bars but was able to make calls.
I just backup my entire SD card and did a complete factory install using Google's 4.2.2 factory images (with the flash-all.bat). Still no improvement, I'm getting 0 bars of service standing next to the network extender. My Dad's GN (as well as the rest of my family's phones) are getting 2-4 bars of service depending on where they are in the house.
Any ideas?
Thanks
TL;DR: I wiped my phone by installing Google's factory images (4.2.2) and my phone is getting no bars of service (although I can *sometimes* make calls standing next to a network extender ("cell tower") or in areas where I should have good service). Any ideas? Thank you...
You might have flashed a Toroplus or Maguro ROM. Im not sure what to tell you other then to call Verizon and check if its a location problem and if its not try manually flashing the stock cdma radio from the google images. (Extract and install both "radio-cdma-toro-i515.fk01.img" and "radio-toro-i515.fk02.img" just in case).
If that doesnt work then try flashing the 2 radios from the 4.1.1 stock image.
I'm sure I flashed the correct toro images, and after posting this I also tried flashing the entire 4.1.1 factory images. Still no improvement. Tomorrow I'll be going back to NJ (from VT), I'm hoping to see some improvement down there.
Thanks for the reply. Any other suggestions would still be appreciated.
I just went down to the Verizon store (back in NJ) after seeing no improvement when I got back to my house. Of course on the 5 minute drive between here and there I get full (4 or 5?) bars of 4G service. And by the time I got to the store I still had 2-3 bars of 4G service. Anyway, the guy at least believed me enough to give me a new sim card. But once I drove back up the hill from the store I lost 4G service in the exact same spot again.
Keeping in mind this is in the Cliffside Park/Edgewater area of NJ (literally right across the Hudson river from NYC). I *should* have great service in this entire area. I don't know what to do, except pay the $100 for a POS refurbished phone form Asurion or maybe pay full price for a S4.
I called Verizon CS and they were able to confirm not being able to see my phone connected to their network. After 40 minutes they actually (read:finally) offered to replace the phone. Should be here in a couple days. Now this phone has to be a refurbished one correct? Any chance they are sending out new ones? I read some stories earlier about people being on their 3rd or 4th replaced GNs because of constant problems with the replacements.
Edit: Just got the confirmation email for my "certified like-new replacement" phone. Oh well, we'll see how this turns out... Until then I'm back on my Droid Incredible. Damn this phone is tiny and slow as s***.

Just need to cents from those who have TP2. I got my phone from Telus (Canada) and couldn't have been more happy with the phone..............except. I get home and have little to no reception? I went from the Mike network to PCS. Two of my kids have cheap phones on telus and get at least one bar and most of the time 2-3 bars in our house.
On my Mike I was getting full bars all the time. On the TP2 I was getting 0-1 bars?????? Standing beside my daughter, she was getting 3 bars and I was getting only 1? In the first two days I was missing calls. They would go to my voice mail even with the phone on. I called my cell from my home and the first 3 calls went to voice mail before the 4th went thru!! I went back to the store and they showed me how to do a tower release and then tower upgrade. It didn't help. The second time back to the store they tried to get me to exchange it for a blackberry. Side by side the blackberry was getting 2 more bars than my TP2? They got another new TP2 out and the reception was the same on it as mine! So it wasn't just my phone. With telus you have 48 hours to cancel your contract so I returned it.
Has anyone else had similar issues.
I have considered purchasing an unlocked TP2 and use it on the rogers network as my friend gets 3-4 bars in my house but again will the TP2 still only get 0-1 bars on rogers as well?
Any suggestions would be great.
P.S. In the short time I had the phone I was extremely pleased. Would love to try the touch diamond 2, but would have to ensure the reception before purchasing.
Thanks
There are actually threads on this and it's a mixed bag. Some people complain that they have poor reception and others say that they have good reception. And just like you the ones with poor reception compare it to other phones. But the same with those that say they have good reception. If I remember correctly one guy said he actually had more bars than on a sony experia and a blackberry.
It may just have to do with the Radio rom and could possibly be fixed by flashing the radio. Can't be certain though.
How do you do a tower release and then tower upgrade?

Yeah! First time hearing about that.
In my house I get 2 bars tops and sometimes 3 all this on 3G. Here and there I see 1 bar but that doesn't last. 3 bars on 3G runs just as fast as my WIFI in my house. Well it seems like it to me, but I would have to do a test. When I was using my Blackberry 8900 which is EDGE. I got 2-3 bars on that, but the connection (NET) was so slow in my house! Good thing I have WIFI when it comes to using the net on the BB in the house. Calls were fine so that wasn't a problem at all.
That's the worse when you have bad reception in the house! The place where you spend most of your time.
my g1 which is on WCDMA only gets 2 bars
while my TP 2 has 1 bar
luckily the TP 2 has excellent wifi reception with my home router..
so i cant complain

The Telus rep told me that when cell phones have more than one tower in range, the phone will drop the weakest signal and connect to the strongest one. She said that sometimes phones won't release until the signal it is on becomes to weak to receive then it drops it to search for another signal.
I don't have the instructions with me right now, but any telus rep should be able to tell you how to do it.
I think ????? it was *22803, listen to message, then 1, listen to message, then 2, then wait for confirmation.
I will post back when I find the instructions.

I was nervous about flashing a new rom in the event I had to return it. Guess I should have searched the forum more as I loved the phone, but couldn't live with missing calls while at home. I tried to have "call forward on not answered" put on my account but I was told that option was only available on business accounts and also it wasn't available in Ontario. I tried calling customer support a couple of times hoping to get someone who know how to get me that option with any luck.
if this is of any help; within the last 5 years I've used the Dash 1 (S620) the Dash 2 (S630), Wing (P4350) and now the TP2.
For my specific, the TP2 is equal to (or slightly better) than those past phones in the reception catagory.
Okay, I live in Louisville, KY. Lo and Behold, a month after I get Sprint service, it all goes to hell. We've had an outage that effects what totals up to be half the city.
Pretty much, if you happen to be in any of the areas affected you are left without reliable CDMA/EVDO coverage. Either you'll only get 2 bars that will go up to 4, even flash all 6 before crashing down to roaming, or you'll just stay in roaming, 0-1 bar of rare reception even while roaming. Irony? Cricket (which uses Sprint) works PERFECTLY. 5 bars in the same building and on the same curb. AT&T and Verizon too, both working just fine.
Sprint refuses to exchange the phone because when I'm near an Airwave (they sent me one which only works in my room, go to the kitchen and lose reception) I get all 6 bars. They claim that since I get full bars at the store, it's just part of the outage so they won't even think that I Might have a reception issue on top of the outage.
Anyway, to try and cut this long story short (too late)
I think I've tried just about everything. I've tried the EVDO hack with the PRLs and in the end I just kept getting good signal, and then 3G would die completely and never come back. 01337, 31337, 00001, none worked.
I've tried stock and MikG 2.2, fully updated radios and everything.
I've tried testing this in areas not effected and it seemed to work okay. Couldn't really stress test it on the network, but it seemed fine. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?
If there's a known outage, I don't blame them for not exchanging the device. That would just needlessly generate exchanges for perfectly working devices.
I got my phone the day after launch (delay on pre-orders) and enjoy it so far. I'm coming from an HTC Evo 4g, which I loved, but it's 2 years old, so it was time to move on. The first few days, the GS3 was great. Good service, even in hard to find service areas. I recently rooted it with CWM and the super user thing. I wanted wifi tether while at work, like I did with my Evo for the last year. After root, everything seemed fine at my house. I noticed when I got to work though, there was no service. Not uncommon for my building, but usually it's spotty throughout. I then noticed the time and date were 3 days off on my phones display. I found it odd that it hadn't updated this all day at work. I drove home thinking the root messed something up, as I'd seen other posts about no service after rooting the phone. When I got to my home town, my service came back. I thought I was in the clear. Today on the way to work, same spot, I lose service, and it didn't come back until I made it back to my home town at the end of the day. I understand service may not be great in some areas, even though I had fine service with my evo, but to lose service in all but like 3 towns, virtually makes my cell phone useless to me. What is going on? Was it a bad root? Can I undo this? I didn't backup my rom, because I actually rooted it during a recovery process with a bad firmware upload. I can understand if I lost service all together, that it may have been a bad root, but this seems to be a different case.
How can I remedy this?
Thanks!
Simply rooting shouldn't have any effect on your signal. I have the Sprint version, and rooted less than 48 hours after I got it. I didn't notice a change in signal strength at all. It's still been about as good (maybe slightly better, especially for actual data performance) as my SGS II on Sprint.
Sprint is doing a lot of network upgrades at the moment, so that could possibly be the cause. What city are you in?
Rooting should have no adverse effects on signal.

I live in Salem (about 20 minutes north of Boston), and drive through Beverly on the way to work. By the time I leave Beverly into Hamilton, signal is gone. All through Topsfield, and Ipswich. My girlfriend, and other people I know on the sprint network, do not have this issue. I thought it might be the network upgrades, but wouldn't it affect all sprint users? Even my father, in the same area, on the same plan, has signal.
Sorry for the double post. Is there any apps or settings I can use to enhance the tx/rx power of the phone? Or maybe change the frequentcy the phone updates the signal status?
Hey guys,
A little history:
Earlier tonight I noticed that my phone kept dropping phone calls in places that I never really had a problem before. I was sitting in my room, looking at my phone and I had 4 bars. I went to call Sprint to find out if there was an outage or issue with my account and at exactly 16 seconds into the call my phone said "No Service" and dropped the call. I was baffled, as the entire time I had 4 bars. I tried calling back, and once again at exactly the 16 second mark the call was dropped. I moved to different areas of my house, went outside, drove down the street to the park and tried making calls and they were all dropped. I tried updating the profile and PRL several times, and as each one was successful, my calls were still getting dropped. I was rooted and running a custom rom (I couldnt even tell you what... its been forever since I flashed anything) so I thought maybe that was the issue. I unrooted my phone, did a factory reset, and went back to stock. Then I updated my profile and PRL and tried making some calls... same results.
Using a friend's phone I called Sprint's customer service to troubleshoot and the rep walked me through all of the standard steps. She did mention that 4G was being rolled out in my area, but said that the two towers closest to me that my phone should be connecting to were not scheduled for their updates yet so I shouldnt even be effected right now. The last thing that she had me try was the ##72786# reset to update me to the correct tower. Now, when my phone came back on and finished everything it did say that I was connected to 4G and had 5 bars (this is the first time that I had ever received 4G at my house, let alone on this phone since I got it when it came out last year) however, my calls were still being dropped. Its not happening at exactly 16 seconds anymore, but so far every call (both outgoing and incoming) were dropped while in the middle of talking. The rep said that it was most likely unfortunately my phone because she did not see any service interruptions etc on her end. She could have of course been lying to me, and maybe the 4G roll out in my area is causing this.... but no one else I know is having these issues.
Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Any idea of a definitive way to find out if the issue is in fact my phone or if this is something I just have to wait out?
tl:dr - My phone drops all calls without fail, even in areas that Ive never had service issues. Both outgoing and incoming. Unrooted my phone, went back to stock just in case... same issues. Updated profile and PRL several times. Did the ##72786# update on the phone with customer service. My phone connected to 4G for the very first time ever, but my calls are still being dropped every time within the first 2 minutes. Sprint rep said that there are no issues on their end. Advice?
Thanks for any and all advice!
May be due to the towers being overloaded from everyone else being pushed on to them while their towers are out for upgrades. Unupdated towers will get crap for service once they get overloaded and they have to take a higher load when neighboring towers are down for upgrades.

I'm having major problems with my new M8, my home is in a area were I receive fairly good signal were I get 3-4 bars but I'm unable to make calls or get data. I contacted Sprint and they sent me an Airrave for my home which appears to help but basically when ever I get into an area with poor coverage (2-3 antenna bars) thisM8 just craps out! Now the clincher is that in the same areas, my son's iPhone works fine, for example last week I was camping and while my M8 was useless as while it would pick up a signal, it couldn't text, make or receive calls while my son's iPhone (5s) had no problems so basically I just used his phone and stowed the M8 away.
I had the very same issue a year or two ago with my HTC EVO LTE, after complaining to Sprint they reprovisioned it and suddenly it worked fine until last month upgraded to the m8.
Is there any better rom or firmware that can help me with this? As long as it has a good strong signal, it's fine but unfortunately we're I live and travel to, Sprint's coverage is poor but still it's frustrating that it doesn't even seem to work roaming when it picks up other service towers as it warns me I'm roaming and addtional charges may be encurred. I have called Sprint and they deny there is any issue with their service yet all the Sprint stores in my area and the Sprint vendors strongly urged me to upgrade to the iPhone instead of an android phone as they all repeated the same story that in my area, Android phones don't work well and from what I have seen the are right.
Any words of advice or suggestions? I'm still in my grace period were I can return the phone, Sprint technical support is suggesting I return the phone as it might be defective which I might believe expect this one is doing the same as my prior until Sprint did something "special" to the old one which fixed it but now they claim it's not their problem.
In a nutshell, it comes to be a issue with the Android phone type as when this M8 won't work, other Sprint phones do such as iPhone and an older Kyocera flip phone which the Kyocera phone was the one I had to use to call Sprint as my M8 couldn't maintain a voice call connection longer than 10 to 20 seconds before it would drop the call.
I'm totally frustrated, any suggestions?

No one?
In searching I found reference in the Sprint user's forums about a issue of multi-band support causing this problem esp in areas were 4g LTE and 3G signal is marginal. The only solution held to any account is to turn off 4G LTE and reprovision the M8 which IMO is rather lame considering it's the top of the line HTC phone but given Sprint's marginal network that might be all that I can do.
Are there any ROM's that radio offer any relief from such?
Sprint's solution at least to provide some help was to send me Airrave which has helped at least at home in that I can at least make phone calls and texts.
Same problem
I'd like some insight on this issue too. I switched from a Galaxy note 3 to the M8 about a month ago, and ever since, my data and cell service is horrible. I never really had any issues with the Note. I have had to turn LTE off and just use 3g to be able to use it at all if I'm not on WIFI. It's pretty frustrating considering that I really like this phone, but I might have to go a different route if I can't get it fixed. My phone is rooted and has viper ROM on it and it didn't change a thing with the custom rom. I don't know what to do, but I'm about ready to jump ship. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
