[Q] Kindle Fire ADB Issue

Too bad i can't edit the post title. Please bare with me.
My fiancee gave me her Kindle Fire yesterday. She got it as a Christmas gift last year and has only started it once since. When i first took a look in the Device information in Settings it said it was running 6.2.2 Stock. So i went to sleep last night with the sound opinion that i would root it and install CM7 Barebones or something likewise and make it functional.
Waking up this morning, i read the beginners guide and i took a look at the rooting guide for the 6.2.2. I install the Java SDK, Android SDK, Google USB Drivers and i do EVERYTHING step by step as directed by the guide. Finally, at the last step, when i try to get the device recognized using cmd "android devices", it fails to recognize. The installation worked like a charm, exactly like in the guide, besides this last step. So i reboot both the KF and the PC, still not working, and surprise, my Device Settings now shows Stock version 6.3 installed, overnight. Take note, i did not approve something like this.
The KF is only recognized as a Disk Device in the Device Manager in Control Panel. I cannot get it to be recognized as an Android Phone. I tried uninstalling the KF through Device Manager, Devices & Printers, but it always reinstalls the driver from the directories. I edited the .ini files as per the guide, so i have no idea what might be wrong. I even uninstalled the Google USB Drivers from the Android SDK Manager and reinstalled them, and the same result is happening. As a last resort, i did a Factory Reset, deleted the drivers from Device Manager and SDK Manager and reinstalled them, to no avail.
How on earth can i get a CLEAN install of ADB and the recognition of my KF for rooting WITHOUT formatting my entire Windows PC? If i take it to another computer and plug it in and follow the Kindle Fire Utility instructions, do i still need to install the Google USB Driver through the SDK Manager, or just the other stuff?
On a side note, if i ever ever achieve this, what custom ROM runs Google Play Store perfectly?

Just use kfu 0.9.5. If I were u I would do latest update before rooting it. You can get it from amazon and manually update it. That's what I did.

This is normal on Stock, OTA updates without your consent unless you have disabled the setting.

The drivers included with KFU are all you need. If you are to plug it into a different computer, it's suggested that you run the drivers installation on KFU first before plugging in the Kindle Fire.

All I have tried have worked flawlessly, with some exceptions where I just had to flash gapps to fix it.

MAJOR EDIT:
I may have been stupid but something happened. Now i have the Kindle as a Disk Drive and i also have it as a SAMSUNG Android Phone. They both are installed correctly but i STILL CANNOT see the device through cmd "adb devices". It's just a blank line.
Any ideas?

Sorry for the double post but this is worth mentioning separately. I saw in a different post that someone who has Samsung Galaxy SII phones and relative drivers get the Kidnle recognized under Samsung Android Phone. How do i uninstall JUST the Samsung Galaxy SII drivers from my PC? I have a Galaxy SII phone so, figures. Also have Kies installed and Droid Explorer as it runs CM9.

plug in your s2 go to device manager in control panel and you will see the drivers

Read the drivers post I linked you to earlier.
Delete incorrect drivers from the Device Manager and take note of what it should read as.
It may sound a bit too simple, but really, most of the issues come from bad drivers.

Just use Kindle Fire Utility 0.9.5 (the latest version).
-> Just keep unplugging, plugging, uninstalling, reinstalling drivers -- and restartting the KFU utility until you can see "Online" as status in KFU.
-> Choose install permanent root with superuser
-> Reboot (power off and on the kindle fire if necessary)
this will automatically install TWRP and superuser and root your kindle fire.
then you can keep using stock ROM by going to extras -> install google framework (where you can use google play with go launcher) or use twrp to backup, restore and flash roms.

Hey guys.
I tried the process on another laptop and it worked. I installed only the basic SDK Tools from the SDK Pack, leaving the development stuff and drivers out of it. Then, i downloaded KFU and used the drivers there as the only installed drivers on the separate PC, and it worked like a charm. I was able to root, install a custom ROM and do every other thing i wanted.
Thing is, on this computer, i can't really get rid of all the drivers and utilities because they keep getting installed back. Should i use something like DriverSweeper or anything of the sorts?

Okay this is what u do. If your kindle is not showing up in device and printers unplug your kindle and power it off. Install drivers from the kfu folder again. After this is completed turn on your device and then plug in your kindle. The kindle should show up as a device on device and printers menu. If your device is showing up click on kindle and then click on hardware. Then click on properties and change setting. There should be a option for update drivers. After clicking on update drivers its going to give you a option to search for drivers. Click browse. Since you have already downloaded the sdk and installed it on your computer install adb composite drivers. It should install the drivers. Now go back to kindle on devices and printers menu and click on kindle. Go back to hardware and check drivers. Under device functions: it should have amazon kindle USB 2. Android composite adb interface 3. E:\ 4. USB composite device 5. USB mass storage device. Now exit all of that stuff. Go back to kfu folder and click run. Make sure the adb status is online and the boot status is 4000. If boot status isn't 4000 then it will not work properly. So what I did was download kfu 0.9.4 and when I clicked on run adb status was online and boot status was 4000. If you do see that, click install permanent root and su (option 2). When this is completed go back to kfu 0.9.5 and adb status should be online and boot status should say 4000. If this is the case go ahead and click 2 again and it should install permanent root and su and twrp. This is what worked for me.

[Q] manual install of unsigned drivers

I think this is where the beginning of my troubles lay. Wife's KF is version 6.3.1 and fully charged. Laptop is running Windows XP home edition service pack 3.
After I extracted KFU 9.6 to a folder called kfu in C drive, I tried to run the install drivers batch file. The WinUSB AndroidUsbDeviceClass failed. Unsigned driver. In system properties I changed the default driver signing option default to Ignore. Problem remained. Then I deleted the kfu folder and downloaded android.zip and extracted that into C:\Documents and Settings\USER\.android.
After doing that re-extracting KFU and connecting my wife's KF, KFU said that ADB status was online and boot status was normal. Device manager also recognized Android Phone and Android ADB Interface, no yellow exclamation points.
Encouraged by this I ran KFU and selected option 2. Where things hung up was the attempt to install FFF. The message was that KFU was waiting for response from device. The Kindle had the Kindle Fire logo and things just stayed that way for twenty minutes or so until I turned off wife's Kindle.
I tried to use the Kindle Unbrick Utility 1.1, every option, but the problem remains. When I plug in the KF, device manager still sees Android Phone and Android ADB Interface. Also, now KFU says ADB status is offline.
Any advice?

What exactly are you asking? Are you trying to boot the Kindle, or are you trying to run ADB?
If the Kindle's not starting, first verify whether FireFireFire installed or not. You'll either have the Kindle Fire logo with an android bot on top or a blue white Kindle Fire logo. If FFF is installed, you can enter recovery by holding power right after the device boots. If FFF is not installed, you shouldn't really be having trouble with the boot, but try holding the power button and rebooting multiple times.
If it's ADB, you could always reinstall the drivers. The drivers are unsigned, so I think everyone had to click past that too. Besides the drivers, some USB cables are problematic with ADB (I'm looking at you, Samsung). You could try unplugging and replugging, using a different USB cable, using different USB ports, restarting the computer, restarting the Kindle, etc.

I've had this happen before. In my case, using KFU instead of fastboot, I just shutdown the Kindle as you did, and then turned it back on while still plugged and waiting. It caught up right away and installed fine.
Apparently, it had gotten stuck when trying to switch to fastboot, so shutting it off and back on while still plugged made fastboot work correctly... for whatever reason.
Alternatively, you can go the "manual" route, rather than using KFU, as it can be a bit problematic sometimes: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23747804&postcount=3 (may want to read the first two posts as well)

Look like you have ADB driver installed correctly not Fast boot. Try to install driver again *without* KF plugged in. Then power off the KF and finally connect to the USB cable.

Now I can get twrp to give me a menu. I'll try to reinstall FFF sometime today. I really appreciate the helpful folks who read these threads and contribute to easing people's pain.

unsophisticated but seemed to work
It's rooted now. Eventually what I ended up doing was simply downloading different versions of KFU and running them after wiping the caches in TWRP in between each try. Eventually got root, but I'm sure glad that the manual driver install worked and that I had the recovery program in place. Good luck everyone.

[Q] Tried to put Fire back to Stock and now bricked

I looked at almost every thread I could see that sounds like my case but in every one the device is at least being recognized by USB on the computer, in my case it has absolutely no recognition.
I had custom gedeROM. gf didn't like it and so I decided to go back to stock.
within TWRP I did Factory reset, then installed the stock bin file that i renamed to update.zip. Install went through properly so I restarted.
Now it is frozen on Kindle Fire boot screen, and it won't go further. Attaching it to a computer with USB will power the Kindle on but the computer will not detect it, tried on 3 computers, Windows 7 and Linux. I have tried to use all forms of unbricking, everything except opening the Kindle. But since the device isn't being recognized by USB at all on any system I don't know what to do.
With a Factory cable help with this?

In Linux type lsusb and see if your device is shown. It my be named something weird.

Did you have adb and fastboot setup on linux when you tried?

I'm pretty sure I did, I used the firekit and that didn't work as well. how do I check if adb and fastboot are for sure running when in linux?

when i lsusb, it just sees my usb stick i booted ubuntu from

Installing Amazon's stock update.zip gets rid of FFF and TWRP, so at this point, your only choices are either getting a factory cable (recommended) or cracking open the case and resorting to the USB short trick + firekit.

Heres where i got from following a video tutorial, I installed the KFU drivers, and then ran the utility, and it stopped at this area "fastboot uses a different device thn ADB you should check your device manager for kindle, amazon." Above that is saying that they are unable to locate my kindle fire. The Kindle itself is stuck at the Kindle fire logo, with no animation to it, and i've tried just about everything to get it back to normal, but until the computer will recognize my kindle again. I can do nothing. Let me know if you have a solution for me, thanks.

If you have drivers installed corectly then you could try turning kf off. Go to kfu then bootmode then 4000(normal) It should say waiting for device. then plug kf in while it is off and let it boot from connecting it. If it works then it should boot up.

I tried that, but when i plugged in the kf it said it was an unrecognized device, so it doesn't show up as a usb mass storage, I need a way to make this computer to recognize it as a kindle again. And then i can get into ADB, i just don't know how to do it.

Cant help you with that unless you were using Linux.

4. Select try unlisted Linux iso from the very bottom of dropdown in universal usb installer

7. Tick format
8. Create
9. Eject safely and remove
10. Shut down computer
11. Insert and power on computer
12. Select boot from usb and use..
then powerpoint45 can help you via teamviewer on linux to launch teamviewer type teamviewer7 in aterminal and hit enter give him your partner id and passcode in a pm if hes willing to help of course I cant speak for him you need a 2gig usb flash drive or larger

Alright, i've spent hours trying to get it back to normal, still no luck, can someone just tell me the easiest way for me to get my computer to recognize my Kindle fire as what it is, and then set it back to normal mode? I really don't want to end up not able to fix it.

[Q] Broke Kindle Fire's Ability to Mount

Hey I'm a brand new member so I apologize in advance if my problem has been solved already, however, I could not find anything on any of the threads. Okay so I am severely confused right now. I have had my Kindle Fire for almost a year now and this problem has never occurred. Ever since I got my Kindle I have been experimenting on it. I rooted it and have flashed many different custom roms. I had been using TWRP Recovery 2.0 for a long time and when I found out that it was outdated I updated it to the new 2.2.1.1 version...Everything seemed to be working perfectly until I tried mounting USB storage in the new TWRP...It did not work. My computer wouldn't recognize it. I kind of just let this slide since I figured I wouldn't need to mount USB storage in TWRP unless it was an emergency. A while later I switched back to the Kindle's stock rom. That's when I noticed that it would not mount...Not only was TWRP not mounting, but it was my Kindle altogether. I deleted all drivers that had any thing to do with Android from my computer. After restarting both my computer and my Kindle I tried mounting again...Nothing. The drivers weren't even reinstalling. To test wether this was a problem with my computer or my Kindle I got my brother's Kindle Fire (Never had any tweaking done to it) and mounted USB storage. It installed the drivers and mounted just fine. I then plugged my Kindle back in and it mounted just fine also. I thought I had solved the issue, but about an hour later I tried mounting my Kindle again and nothing happened. My brother's Kindle will mount (Actually there are a total of four Kindles in my house all of which have not been tweaked except for mine) but mine won't do anything. As a last resort I deleted EVERYTHING with TWRP and flashed the Kindle Fire 6.3.1 update.zip. My Kindle is now true factory default (no root, custom recovery, etc...). I thougt for sure this would work but IT STILL WON'T MOUNT USB STORAGE!!! When I plug my Kindle in and go to "Devices and Printers" it recognizes my device as a "Kindle" but I just cannot get it to mount! I am now stuck with a Kindle that cannot be re-rooted or anything due to the fact that it cannot be recognized with ADB. Sorry for the long post...I am just trying to give as much information as possible. By the way I am running Windows 7 and my Kindle is the only one that will not mount which makes this problem have nothing to do with drivers or my computer. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Wheww okay well try a factory reset this will wipe your sdcard as well. It should resolve most your problems. There are multiple things that can cause this to happen but one thing that really comes to mind. Are you ejecting your kindle before hitting the disconnect button? Just a wild guess but failing to do so can cause this disorder the very next time you plug it in. Something that could resolve minor sdcard issues is

don't let this make you to crazy yet RC soupmagnet should be releasing something very soon that will solve the majority of SD card mount problems hint hint . You will need to reroot and flash a custom ROM on it to have success though. So if nothing works hang tight and stay tuned.

Yeah I downloaded the newest Kindle Fire Utility and installed thoose drivers. When I plug my Kindle in and go to "Device Manager" it lists it as an android phone with ADB Interface. If I plug any other Kindle in then it installs new drivers and doesn't list the ADB Interface. Is this normal?

I don't use Windows so I couldn't tell what's normal for that OS.
Use the tutorial here to confirm your drivers are installed properly. Then Shift + right-click on your KFU "tools" folder with adb.exe and fastboot.exe, and select "Open command window here". Enter your adb or fastboot commands there and see how it goes. Start with "adb devices" to see if you are connected. If not, reinstall your drivers and try again.
Some ROMs have different product IDs than the stock OS so you may want to look into that if you are using a custom ROM, and edit your androidwinusb.inf accordingly. I know some JB roms have a PID of 0004 instead of 0006.
If for some reason Windows refuses to cooperate, you could always set up a Linux LiveUSB and get it done a lot easier.

Okay so I've been fiddling around with stuff. I completely uninstalled all Android drivers again then restarted my PC and Kindle. This time I plugged my Kindle in and it installed the correct drivers. It mounted USB just fine. When I tried reinstalling the ADB drivers that came with Kindle Fire Utility it erased the Kindle's normal drivers, so now it won't mount anymore...at least I know that it is a driver problem and that my Kindle doesn't need to be repartitioned. I'm really getting sick of Windows and its annoying drivers...Any ideas on how to get all the drivers to work? If not I think I might just install Ubuntu and screw the need for drivers.

If you run the driver bat packaged with kfu with the device plugged in sometimes it will waste the mass storage drivers. It`s always best to run it then plug the device in and see what windows decides to install. Unplug, replug, unplug, replug as well as try this while in recovery because it will also attempt to install the drivers as well in recovery.

I downloaded the lates kindle fire utility and I enabled debugging, I can see my files but when I run the utility file the adb says offline. I cannot figure it out. : (
