is this possible? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I think this would work but wanted to hear from others.
With the new non contract plans:
Could I pay the 199 up front for a note 2 and pay 20/mo for 24 months like the plan is intended but after 1 month, stop the 70/mo unlimited plan and do the 30/month 1oo min unl text/data and keep paying the 20/mo for the phone and be legit?
That way my plan would be 50/mo...20 for phone and 30 for plan

Think you should be fine. I signed up for their 79.99 plan, waited till I got my $200 rebate and switched to 49.99 with no hassle or issues.

No you can't, the 30 dollar a month one is a prepaid plan, you will cancel your actual postpaid account then be billed for the full amount of the device immediately on your following bill.

Just because you sign no contract for the plan does not mean it is a prepaid plan. You will sign a contract when you get the EIP (the phone itself). Most likely what that contact says is you must stay a current T-Mobile post paid customer or your EIP comes sure in full.
You can call but I'm more then willing to bet that you can't stop service with their post paid plans and go prepaid and have an EIP.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2

I'm sure T mobile will let you cancel you post paid and switch to prepaid. when you pay off the phone

well what i would do is get a new number when buying the phone with the post paid plan...then after 1 month which is what tmo says all they require then transfer my number from sprint to tmo prepaid sim card, take post paid sim out, put pre paid sim in and pay the 30/mo plus 20/mo for phone

Then you will have to cancel the plan you signed up for, pay the early termination fees and then they will require you to pay the remaining balance on the EIP. It says it in the fine print at the bottom of the screen on T-mobile's website.
Edit: Here's the link, go read the bottom.

T-mobile No strings rewards

So I just got a promotional letter in the mail from T-mobile which says they are rewarding me for being a loyal T-mobile customer. It offers 4 options to choose from including: for $0.99 a month you get a 4G mobile hot spot with a 2gb limit for 6 months, free month service in Jan. 2013, Free data for 6 months (one line only), and $100 back from any smartphone you purchased (by rebate). You can view the options at tmobile.com/nostrings but apparently in order to take advantage of it you have to be "invited". Did anyone else get this? If so, what reward did you choose?
Yea select customers get invited to these things you can't go wrong with either most customers go with what's most valuable for them.

My mom has had T-mobile since voice stream and yea I just signed a 2 year contract so I'm not worried if the fine print says anything about that and from what I read it doesn't even say it. I ended up choosing the free month as my monthly bill but I hope this thread can help people learn about this deal and call t-mobile to try and get it themselves.
It has more to do with other things as well not just tenure guys being with them for a long time is great n they can usually go above and beyond to retain but offers proactive like that are usually taking into account both payment history and credit too. It pays to pay your bill on time is all I gotta say.

You had to extend your contract for two years to get that free month right?

I sure hope I receive one, as I pay my monthly bill on time and I have been with T-Mo for over 8 yrs. I would get the free month and use the savings for my daughters back to school shopping.

I'm not sure as I signed a new contract last week so either it came because of that or it came regardless. I read the fine print on the card and online and it doesn't say anything about signing a new contract. Try calling loyalty dept and ask them about it.
I asked because I know someone who was deterred from taking advantage of that because it involved her renewing/extending her contract.

T-mobile NO STRINGS upgrade deal.. get $200 off any phone!! Wohooo upgrade to GS3 time right!
I asked twice 'Are you sure nothing in my plan will change' - 'Nothing in your plan will change' - Great
Total cost $349 and within 6 weeks T-mobile will send you a $200 credit card. Great lets do it.. with tax that's $405
Phone arrives. Works! But.. after 10 years with T-mo..
T-mobile say I need a new data plan for that phone to have features like Wifi hotspot. I argue get the plan $10 more ($30 total!) with $10 off my bill for the next 2 years. But suddenly my unlimited plan now says 'Unlimited - Up to 5 GB full-speed data'
T-mobile say it was always like that... hmmm no strings? Did I just get my data capped?

That's what they offered it to me for.. $349 - $200 = $149
The $200 comes 6 weeks later in the form of a T-mobile credit card you can use to pay your bill or pay for anything really.
Since the law states you pay the tax on the full price I paid $405 -$200 = $205 in the end.
Update..

[Q] What is your T-mobile Plan as of Now? Single Plans No Families...

So Basically I was on the
$59.99 Unlimited Talk&Text
$9.99 200MB.
which is an = of $69.98 + TAXES($10-$13) = around = $82 dollars monthly
Now I changed it to
$39.99 500 Min
$10.00 Unlimited Text
$20.00 Unlimited Data
for a total of 69.99 + Taxes($10-$13) = around $82 dollars monthly
Now days I dont talk that much on my phone, But I do use alot the internet + texting(about 6K txts a month) im not sure How I do this.
but I belive T-mo is giving me a bad deal here.. been with them for 6 years now and I havent had any good offer... you guys how can I change this or what is your Plan I've seen 54.99 plans out there I wanna make sure I get a good deal before I call again. Thank you very much for the ooportunity
I have unlimited minutes data and text pay 78-79$ a month.
if you go here http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Packages/ValuePackages.aspx they have an unlimited plan for 59.99
if you dont use that minutes then go with the 49 99$ plan 500 mins, unlimited text, and unlimited data with 2gb of 4g
but with the value plans you do not qualify for a phone upgrade after the two year contract.

Value plans do not offer any "upgrades" the contract holder is paying full price for the phone just split between 20 months. But the plans is cheaper whereas the classic they get a phone discount but the plan is a bit more.

What you should do... If your a college student ask for a student discount. Or if your employer is recognized by t mobile you can get a discount. That's what I have so the discount basically covers my taxes because the plan I have is 79.99$. But before you get either one of these discounts check yourself which one is better. How to cancel T-Mobile service?

Exactly today I have hit my 18 months completed for my 2-year contract!
I want to switch to the $30 plan. I already ordered / received my SIM kit as of a few weeks ago. I'm wondering a few things:
A) Is it possible to cancel my account WITHOUT calling T-Mobile? (ie online)
B) If I cancel today, will it shut off service immediately, or after the current month is already completed? Is there any pro-ration?
The only way I know of to cancel your service without calling would be to port your number somewhere else. Your easiest option would be porting it to Google Voice. Once the port is complete, your T-Mo account will be automatically canceled.
Either way you will be stuck with an early termination fee which would be $100 per line
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I don't think you can switch online but why not call them and them you want to transfer / downgrade your plan to that prepaid plan? That's what I did and tmo just recompensated me for the rest of the months. Oh, I switched to pay as you go BTW. Slightly different.

I switched to the $100 prepaid plan that allows me to buy data for $3 a day. I could also switch to any of the contract-less monthly prepaid plan if I want using the online account page. So you can't cancel an account without ETF until literally 24 months completed?
Is there anywhere to see the # days on my account and how much it would cost to cancel the account? (The only thing I'm going on is the email with the purchase date for my phone, so I'm not sure where to see ETF costs aside from switching to value plans on the website, which currently have no cost.)
I'm sure one of the wireless places can check how many months or when you activated your account with T-Mobile (Wal-Mart or Costco). Nonetheless, switching your current plan to the Value will indeed extend your contract another two years. T-Mobile stores are very shady on secretly switching customers to the Value plan, be weary.
Also, are you talking about the $30 Wal-Mart 5gb, unlimited text, and 100 minutes of talk? If so just activate with a temporary number and port your existing number over.
So, I was right lol

thats pretty much what 2yr agreement means.
if you dont want a ETF, you have to wait.
I recently switched to the Value Plan from the classic plan. It was $0 but it did extend my contract another 2 yrs which I don't mind as I am paying only 99.00 for 3 lines. 2 of them with data and one got unlimited data, no caps whatsoever, I used about 14GB the other month.

Ah, that's pretty misleading, especially when I am clearly shopping in a No Contract area of the website...
I already have a SIM kit.

T Mobile Classic plan to Value plan - Migrate Fee or ETF - which would you choose...

So we got a couple of new phones from T-Mo back in Nov 2012, thereby extending our contract for two years.
Now looking at their new Simple Value Plans, I am tempted to move over - as I am currently paying about $140 for 2 lines under family plan with Unlimited T&T and 5GB data ($20 Preferred Android plan) - My motivation to move is lower pricing and option to Tether - since I dont have that available to me under my current Preferred Android Data plan)
Tmo rep told me that there would be a $200/line migration fee - (Fair enough) and that they would give me $100 credit - so I end up paying $300 one time at the time of switching - I would still remain under contract though until I complete it.
Now if I decided to terminate the contract with TMob - I still have to pay $200/line ETF - however this gets me out of my contract completely - I can then sign up under a new value plan - no more contract.
I am not sure if under this second option, I will lose our current mobile #s ....... Though d move to Straight talk ($45/line for unlimited talk text and data) Prepaid plan, I can port my number and save some money - if i dont like it, I can sign up again with TMobile under their no contract simple value plan and bring my same number back
Is it worth all this trouble? I do want tethering and eventually to move over to Tmob Simple value plan - ETF or Migration ???
Any other options?

Second option you week lose your number. The account must be active to pry a number. Your third option I don't think we'll work either. Most companies won't let you port a number out that you ported to them.
By the way that's what I did, so I think it's worth it

Once in 2008, I did port my number out of Tmo to Verizon through my employer, and later when I changed jobs, ported it back to Tmob... so thats not an issue...
One other option that comes to mind is to get two new lines under value plan from Tmob and once they are active, port these numbers over to those and pay the etf for breaking the contract... not sure if Tmob will agree to internal porting though.
Anyone has experience with Straight Talk?
When I was at tmobile they were trying to get me to move to the new plans but there weren't any fees involved. Just a straight move but I kept my value plan coz it was about 20 bucks cheaper.

Since, there is only one type of "Simple" plan available, thats the plan i mean - whatever they may call it - Value, Uncarrier or anything else
I couldnt understand the quoted sentence above - tell me again.
I switched all my 4 lines to the new plans and didn't have to pay any migration or etf fees. Just a simple straight move from the old plan to the new one; saving me about $40 a month including taxes/fees.
I was also under contract with a few months left. I'm no longer under contract since the switch. Try getting another rep to help you.

The fee is based on how long you've been under your current contact. So you being near the end of your contact there is no fee. For people just starting out on the contract it's 200.

First... are you looking at family plan or 1 linea...
I have family value plan of $90 at months, my linea is unlimited internet and my girl is 2gb of high speed internet. I dont care of unlimited talked. Uncarrier first linea is $50 plus $20 unlimited internet, at a second linea for $30 plus $10 of 2gb inertnet or $20 unlimited. So there is no more value plan, only uncarrier..

fee is based on last time you upgraded you phone, not contract, if you are under contract they will switch you with out fee , you have to ride out remain of your contract term.

Well that's what I meant. To me if you are under contract you got a discounted phone, but technically you are right. By the way op here is the fee schedule.

I've ported my number 3 different times. From Tmobile to Cricket to Sprint and back to Tmobile. The carriers can't stop you from porting a number, but on occasion, their systems will screw something up and the number gets lost.

Well good to know. I've only ported a number once. I just remember ready in a couple contacts that they will deny you porting a number you ported to then. Guess its not enforced then.

I have found that the sales people on the phone are more motivated and flexible than in the store and that you can negotiate pretty much what you want. When you ask for something, they say, "Hold on", ask their boss, and, invariably, say yes to your offer, or, come back with a good counter-offer. I have unlimited everything (real unlimited, i.e., no slow down) on three lines for about $220. I have never paid any activation fees and have even had fees waived in return for extending the contract. And don't worry about the tethering issue - if you root and flash a custom ROM, you can create your own hotspot for free even if the feature is not included in your plan.

I hear ya! In the past, T-Mobile has always been generous and within my ability to reason and negotiate with - so no complaints about that but for some reason, I find that suddenly they have become very unrelenting and unwilling to negotiate on some aspects of ones contract (Such as migration fee) - When I asked the Loyalty CSR he said that in the past, under various classic plans they had a lot of margin, but with these new ultra competitive uncarrier plans there is just no room to negotiate - I can understand that - yet, as a customer I have to negotiate
Anyway - they have agreed to give me $160 slack on my migration fee - so instead of $400 on my two family plan lines it will be $240 - and then the CSR mentioned that in June my current classic contract will enter its 8th month which will drop $50 from my Migration fee on each line down to $300 for both - the discount they offered of $160 will continue to be valid even then (CSR Notated the account) so it would make most sense to change over in june with the Migration Fee of only $140 ($300 MF -$160 discount). I created an XL sheet to check my breakeven compared to my current classic plan and by October I will be ahead on the Uncarrier plan.
I plan to go with Unlimited T&T family for $80, $10 for 2gb tethering data for wife and $20 /4gb tethering data for self. If I can get myself to root my note 2 by then and add the hotspot, I may just go with the $20 unlimited high speed data.
Somehow, unlike my previous devices, I am very happy with the stock rom and don't want to get into dealing with bugs, missed updates etc with custom roms - so I may just stay stock / unrooted.
ps - btw great signature image - where did you get such clean images of your past phones?

Differences ;Walmart new 2 yr contract $199 or t mobile no contract $150

Confused about which is the better value. Tmobile has the phone for$150 no contract plus$20 a month but Walmart has it for 199 on a new 2yr. Contract... Am i missing something here but wouldn't it be better to just buy it from Walmart They offer the same Plans right?

I would go with Tmo. With Walmart your locked in whether you pay the phone off early or not. There would be a fee for early cancellation. With Tmo all your obligated to do is pay the phone itself off. After that, you could easily cancel your service, request unlock pin and switch to any other carrier. I've got Tmo with 500mb and only pay $56 a month. For $10 more you could have unlimited data(2gb).
Think Un-Plan
I think it depends.
Do you foresee any reason that you may or may not be looking to switch providers or drop cell phone service all together in the next 2 years?
I've seen many people run the numbers but in my opinion and my use case the new "uncarrier" plan doesn't work out better for me.
If I would have switched my 2 lines over my bill would have gone up $20 a month. Yes I would have gained unlimited talk, and a bit more data, but I have never gone over my minutes and I've only used more than my data allotment 1 time. So for me spending $20 more a month is not acceptable, plus I am fairly happy with Tmobile and do not plan on switching anytime in the next 2 years, and my employer requires me to have a phone and pays for my line. For these reasons I opted to just renew my contact at walmart and get the 199 S4 and my wife the 149 HTC one.
Goodluck with your decision

Definitely walmart. Tmo strategy is based on fake advertising just to make you pay more. Most people that are with tmobile have chosen it because is cheaper than the other carriers meaning they don't have where else to go so the possibility of ditching tmo in 2 years is very low. With walmart you only pay 199 + data cost while with tmo thing you spend $450 extra on the device just because you think some day you might ditch tmo. And truth is that theirs is not a real no contract thing yet because of course you are tied to paying the phone in full for the next 2 years.

you're wrong its cheaper and better to go with tmobile. with the 2 year contract u are locked and u get the phone for 199 bc the tmobile pays samsung the difference while locking u in to repay for the phone. but when u are in the contract you continue to pay for the phone ontop of your plan meanwhile with the no contract deal you only pay your phone and a separate plan, so when u pay off the phone ur bill drops but if u were in a contract u continue paying the same high bill.

Depends on what plan you have. I never go over 1000 minutes so the unlimited talk tmo has i can care less. Also most of the time i am on wifi so no need for 5gb or unlimited data. For me it is better through walmart because i know i won't ditch tmo in the near future and i have no use of the extra minutes or data i would get by going the "no contract" way.
Edit: how does tmo lock me in to repay for the phone? I only pay 199 and then pay for its services only instead of paying 150 then pay for phone + services every month.

Its the same either way. You have to pay the $50 sales tax along with the $150 because you're paying full price. I would go with T Mobile personally

the reason they put you in contracts is because you pay off the phone. TMO gives it to you for 199 right? the difference from 650+ - 199 is given to Samsung by TMO. Then while you are in contract, you are paying for your services but also a part is going towards tmo to earn the money back it gave to samsung. and since you are in contract, you eventually pay off the phone and even more since you are locked in. if you go the uncarrier method, you pay off the phone and then only pay services.

Okay i get that but i am telling you that it is very difficult to find cheaper provider than tmo. Most of us stay with tmo for 2 years at least, especially if you have a family plan. I have seen people in the s3 forums that have been with tmo for 8+ years. How often have you changed carriers in the last years?

Am i missing something wouldn't it be cheaper in the long runto just pay 199 from Walmart ? 150 from t mobile plus 20 on top of your bill till its paid off seems like it costs more. But isn't paying 20 for 24 months basically the same ass a2yr? $20x 24 months is $480 +149 to tmobile makes $629...even if you cancel service you have to pay off the balance. I understand that if you paid the 629 up front you wouldn't pay $20 a month but if you choose to pay $199 at Walmart yeah its 50 more but you wouldn't have to pay$20 for 24 months saving you money in the long run no what I'm saying
