Every time I turn my wifi on and my phone connects to wifi, my phone lags to the point where it just freezes or the screen won't turn on when I press the power button later. I have to wait like 15-25 minutes for my phone to do all it's wifi business like updating apps before it stops lagging. It's so annoying. IS there anything I can do?
If it wasn't for the extra 3 "o"s we'd never have understood what's going on.
It has nothing to do with wifi and everything to do with "it's wifi business". Either update apps on your own so it doesn't have to or kill the play store every time it starts.
Yeah I'd say disable auto update in play store. I don't understand how you have so many apps needing auto update...

Def turn off auto update in play store ...but with that said...I've noticed certain kernels handle play store updates "a little better" still lag but no freezing.

Do you know what their default io scheduler and read ahead are? They would be the main factor to reduce app update/install lag.

Bro we have the exact same situation when i turn on wifi i get lag even if auto update is of.. i think this became lag because of merging the dalvik cache, data and app to the sd-ext2 and creating a link those things back to the data.. if you also did like mine..

I don't got problems with listening to music, maybe some app is messing your phone. if you can't find the problem do a "Factory data reset", if this doesn't help you can bring the phone back and get a new one. It can always be a faulty phone.
My Arc sometimes reboots on me too but not randomly. It's always when it's doing something that maxes the CPU and I switch between apps simultaneously. It's quite annoying, no doubt. My old Desire never did this.
Hoping for a future fw update!

It's being reported in the SE forum as well. You don't notice the reboot unless u put your phone within your view the whole day. Thats when you will notice the random reboots.

I'm pretty confident its caused by buggy software and not broken hardware.
Looking forward to flashing some custom roms and kernels to get around this and up the perfomance
15 times
my arc have randomly rebooted at least 15 times in the past 3 days. it's so annoying. what's that thing with stuffing tissue paper on the back does it work?
i've reflashed mines twice now, and done reset to factory default on top of that after the second flash for good measure, and it's still rebooting when it feels like it. i uninstalled a weather widget, and i got almost 5 hours of constant uptime. i'm about to reflash it again and not install anything, maybe just battery monitor so i can tell how many hours/minutes i can get before it reboots again.
i read about the battery fit, and i have tried various things to try and see if that was the issue, but nothing physical seems to make it reboot, and like some others, i have seen it reboot when the lcd is off and the phone isn't doing anything.
i'd really like to be able to use this arc!
mine just had the first random reboot...first I thought that the battery was all drained out but then realised after switching it back on that it was at 20%...
the phone was on idle, locked...weird!!!
Just had my first random reboot after a months use, was using google nav while charging from the cigarette lighter. Quite annoying as i was trying to find my way somewhere and suddenly realised i hadnt had any instructions for a while. The phone had gotten quite hot - i think google nav must work it pretty hard.

If you use the home button to switch between recent apps a lot (i do) then it's pretty obvious if your phone's been rebooted as the recently used apps list is empty, so i'm fairly sure this is the first time my phone's rebooted on its own.
Random reboot here, too. ^^
I was typing an email with Google Mail app (with wifi and mobile data connection turned off, actually), when the screen became all coarse and broken (does anyone remember old DOS games crashes? ^^) and then it rebootet. Everything fine afterwards except for my email, which was gone.

Have you tried disabling "Force GPU Rendering" under Development in settings? Not sure if this is your issue or not, but that caused a lot of issues with other apps so it's worth a shot.
Personally GTAIII works fine on my Galaxy Nexus.
Have you rebooted and tried. And try this as well. Delete the game data in SD card/android/data/com.rock star...
Then let it redownload. It should work.

It runs fine (or rather ran, because I just got the S3) on my Galaxy Nexus CDMA. It's the same hardware as the GSM one. Sometimes, yes, it will start up and hang on a black screen in landscape. You can just kill it and relaunch it (easiest way is if you turn on the option to kill by holding the back softkey). A bad download will also screw with the game; even if it launches and runs, you will run into glitches that break the game and might make it impossible to progress. Delete the game data (/sdcard/Android/data/com.rockstar.gta3/) and redownload.
Yes I have rebooted and I never had the force gpu option enabled so I guess my last option is to redownload the data for it, thanks everyone will get back in a while if it worked or not

I had this happen as well. When I got the game I started it up and it asked to download the extra files. I started that process and then went on with responding to texts/emails, etc. and when I tried to go back to GTAIII I had the exact same issues. Even force closing the app and rerunning it would give me the same problem. I had to delete the cache data for the app (which means redownload all those extra files again) and this time I started the download and just set my phone down and watched until it was completed. Then it worked
Yup a redownload fixed it, thank-you everyone

Hello everyone,
I just bought my S3 last Sunday. Since then I have noticed several issues with it and I'm wondering if it's worth exchanging. They seem to be both software and hardware issues.
1. It's pretty laggy. For such a "groundbreaking" phone this is lagging much more than my old Sensation. It's rarely smooth switching between screens and going from lock screen to home screen is also laggy. Overall, it's not very smooth. Is this common on this device? Maybe I'm expecting too much.
2. The music player skips and repeats A LOT. Whenever a song is playing, it will constantly have gaps in the music. It will just stop playing for a brief second but then continue normally. It also will repeat parts of a song, such as saying some lyrics twice.
3. Whenever someone calls me, my voice sounds "distant" to them. If I call someone my voice sounds totally normal but when I receive the call I am either echoing or I sound like I'm holding my phone away from my face.
I guess my biggest problem is the lag. It really bothers me since it's supposed to be such an amazing and smooth phone. It takes several times longer to load apps and things than my old Sensation did, and I don't have many apps installed at all. Opening the app drawer is consistently laggy as well.
Are these common issues or do you guys think it would be worthwhile to exchange the phone? As of right now, I'm not very pleased with it.
Thanks for all your input, guys!
Edit: Also, whenever I hit the home button it takes several seconds to load it up. Is there a way to speed this up?
Also, I am not rooted yet. I always like to spend a few weeks with the stock setup before rooting.
Edit 2: Last thing, S Voice is a piece of **** on this. Literally. It takes FOREVER to load up and RARELY does what I say. Does this actually work for you guys or is S voice generally useless?
Not common at all. Exchange.

Smooth as butter.
Have you tried installing the latest OTA? It may help with some of your problems. For the home key lag, double press to open s voice, then go into settings and turn off double press home to open.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
1. Try this. Settings >Developer Options > Window animation scale ->change to 0.5x or off. Transition animation scale >animation is off
Also make sure Do not keep activities under developer options is unchecked. Check it first then uncheck it. This should solve the redraw issue on teh homescreen (at least it did for me)
2. Did not happen to me
3. Turn off noise reduction
For the distant sound issue open the dialer>call settings>additional settings>uncheck noise reduction. Even running unrooted the interface should be very smooth however.

that is yet another odd thing about my device. it claims I have the latest OTA, when I know I don't. Also, it says the music hub is still unavailable (even though I know several people who have it running)
I haven't actually used s-voice myself, but a lot of reviews said it wasn't very good.
Another thing you can try for the lag you mentioned is in Developer Options, change the Force GPU Rendering option.
Also try limiting background processes to 3 or 4. Though you shouldn't have to resort to this. If other options don't work id still take it back for exchange.

I just tried all the things you listed in number 1 and it is definitely faster, in a way. When I click the home button, the wallpaper pops up immediately. The apps however take significantly longer to load up and the app drawer still takes quite a while to load. I think I am stuck with a return. Thank you for all your help!

To speed up the home screen button:
Double tap home screen (bring up s-voice)
Tap menu softkey
Tap settings
Uncheck launch s-voice
You will need to do this with your new device as well.
And s-voice is generally useless, or as far as I've found.

Do a master reset without restoring back up. Sometimes this all that is necessary on any Rom. If that fails do a buyers remorse exchange.

man, that's already the 3rd if not 4th thread abut this issue, one being opened by myself...
glad that I'm not the only one...
at beginning I thought it'd be a faulty/bent usb connector, as experienced by others, but since I am redaing of others with the same problem after upgrading, then it cannot be...
have you install;ed the OTA or started from cratch? have you cleaned dalvik cache? (I did with no avail) do you see a pattern in your wakeups? is it every x minutes? is it at random?
as regards me, it happens also when wifi and 3g and sync is off (but 2g on, that is I can only receive calls), so it cannot be anything related to signals...
I have installed BetterBatteryStats and will be sending a couple of resports to the developer trying to see if he can understand what is going on and what wakes up the phone...
I did a completely clean install... Wipe data and cache... Installed the OTA rom available on developers section.
Do tell me if you are able to find a solution.

I have noticed my screen waking about every 10-15 minutes. It only happens when connected to my Wifi. My N7 does not wake at all. I have wiped the Cache and noticed my "Android System" hogging my battery stats.
I am trying to search what Apps I have settings for something like "sync only on wifi"... from there I should be able to find what is turning the screen on. I have BetterBattery Stats installed, and am trying to dig a little deeper there as well.

Your problem may have been resolved but wechat and daydream is not the solution to this as many of us aren't using either and still having this issue. I think I'm going back to bone stock 4.1.2 and going to let the OTA upgrade me to 4.2 and see what happens.
wechat is NOT the solution people, as the Google Code page suggest this is a sync issue that could be caused by a number of apps.

This is just a theory… but give it a shot.
Every time you put it down, sounds like something has come lose inside of it. Has it been dropped at all since you bought it?
Either way, try this, for starters:
I would suspect that your battery might be a little loose. Fold a small little shred of paper up, and wedge it between the “butt end” of the battery (this opposite side of where the connector pins are) and the device. This will effectively push the battery into the pins a little more, and possible keep it from coming loose.
Also, put a small folded piece of paper directly between the battery and the back cover of the device.
The idea here is to keep the battery from moving around. This will rule out the possibility of it coming loose, and resetting.
Also, take your micro SD card out if you have one.
Are you using any custom ROMs or kernels?
Good luck, I’ll keep an eye on this thread.
Well not every time, sometimes, sometimes when I lock the phone it restarts. Yes I have dropped it couple times, and no I'm not rooTed or running custom roms or kernels. K so for now turn off automatic updating and see if the problem goes away.
Also, why are you not rooted? I would recommend doing this. There is no reason not to be at least rooted.
Also, go into your settings>application manager and wipe data on the following system apps...
Google play store
Google play services
Downloads
Then reboot the device.
