iMessage for Android? What do you think? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Apparently there's an iMessage type app coming out on android. It'll even be on the iPhone. I personally think that they should of done this along time ago but eh, What do you think of this new app? Beneficial or Useless?

Might be a hit since it'll probably be on every android phone shipped and it's a plus since it's on multi-platforms.

I don't see why Apple doesn't just incorporate their iMessage along with their FaceTime with androids. It'll work out for both of them. It's not like apple is going to win the phone wars anyways....

I wouldn't mind seeing a iMessage style app. Although not like sending a regular SMS takes so long. From the website link it to me sounds like a third party app. Almost like a GoSMS.
What I really want to see is a FaceTime style app for Android. That would put a huge draw on Android, more then it already has.

Exactly! I can't get my colleague to switch to Android because he has got friends using iPhones and iMessage.

That whole "I'm getting an/staying on iPhone because of iMessage" bandwagon phase will soon come to end once the Android gets the multi platform android messenger.

I tell everyone with an iPhone. "Screw you. Eff Facetime, you wanna video chat, make a Skype or download a gtalk alternative"
Most have Skype but to the ones that don't have a Google Account to log in to the alternate gtalk, they usually say, "well I don't have a Google Account, and I don't feel like making one."
I say "well maybe if you didn't have an icrap then you could be like the rest of the world and have an account rather than being a slave to slapple and having to put your long a** password just to download a FREE app!"
Seriously. Apple is a downgrade IMO. Stuck on a locked down OS, then you have to wait for a jailbreak to be released.... No disrespect to the devs that develop a jailbreak but SHHEEEESSSSHHHHHH MANE!!!
EFF THAT. As soon as an Android device is released, there's a possibility to root almost the same day most of the time.
And don't forget how much of a hater Slapple is to remove Google Maps from the OS without having to download it first. Gmaps has way more features and tools.
"Ooooohhhhh aaaahhhhh iMaps has 3D view!"
Well guess what, Gmaps has STREET VIEW so don't gimme that BS RIGHT NOW!!!!

+1----my wife, my brother, my mom, and my dad all have iphones and when im at work and without any service at all (thanks sprint), i throw my phone on airplane mode and pop my wifi on...leaving me without the ability to communicate with any of them. I think that if android came out with a cross platform messaging service it would be beneficial to a ton of people as well as draw some people away from apple's icrap.

One interesting thing that I noticed, is if all your friends have iPhones, and you recently switched from an iPhone to an android phone, you won't get their messages. At least not unless they start a new thread of sms (not imessage) messages to you. When I switched from an iPhone 4 to my gs3, I wasn't receiving hardly anyone's texts and didn't realize it till weeks later when I connected my old iPhone up to Wi-Fi and about 50 imessages came up. I had to stop and think a while before I realized all the messages that I wasn't receiving were from people using iPhones. It sucked too because half of them were from my boss. She thought I was just getting tired of hearing her. Lol.
What makes the problem worse is there is nothing you can do on your end, so to speak, to fix it. It is entirely up to the iPhone user to make sure they reply to you through sms and not imessage. Marketing strategy?

I liked the first one better lol. I like the advertisements they're shockingly accurate as to what apple launch day is.
Apple gave their competition a golden opportunity. If I had an iPhone 4 I would not walk out of a store using an upgrade on a phone that looks identical and basically is identical (OK don't flame but an upgraded camera and CPU/gpu isn't worth an upgrade)
Evo 4g to epic touch, now That is an upgrade ;-)

The first round of commercials were better, it actually showed some of features of the phone. Still I like the fact that they are firing back at apple...the right and respectable way...not with frivolous lawsuits but through competition.

One of the metrics we are scored on is return rate. I've yet to return an iPhone for anything but a more expensive iPhone. I have definitely returned android devices (including the epic touch) for iPhones. I will give someone a fair discussion on whether they are really getting the right phone without resorting to android snobbery, but I ultimately have to look out for me and not get things returned.

Unless I get an Apple diehard with nothing but Apple products I can usually flop them to Android. More specifically the Epic Touch. Larger screen, expandable memory and showing them mine running all the rooted goodies. Plus, a lot of people don't like that you have to use iTunes.

You're not going to find flash on apple either. In fact apple is one of the reasons flash is being done away with.
Great thing about android, you can make it "bright & cheery" if you so choose. Apple? They are more into telling you what to like and what to think, no options. And damn anyone who wants to give folks a choice.

You couldn't be anymore confused and lost, now could ya? You claim to favor the iPhone over android devices but clearly your screen name is "iloveandroid". Very contradicting, don't you think?
Don't get mad at the android platform because you won't take the time to read and learn about the millions of brilliant and ingenious things you can do with any given device. There are so many hacks, mods, customizations and options that you get with android that you CAN'T get with your beloved iPhone.

I got an iPhone 4 just because I wanted to see what fuss about iOS was. Quite frankly, it is very fast, it is very smooth, but its only because its so limited. Having the apps refresh upon re-entering, or the tiny ass screen, or hell, having to jailbreak just because the stock icons bore me to death, just too much work to get it to my liking.
I literally used it for 2 hours at home took it out for about another hour, and came home just to use my (at the time) HTC One X, and went back to where I was. So heavy for no reason too. And before you say "Ooooohhhh glass front and back, its so sexy" if it breaks the moment you drop it, why would you want it?
Happy with my S3. Loving it.

I switch back and forth from time to time... sometimes, just having to read about the "millions of brilliant and ingenious things you can do with any given device" is to much, Android users (I use a GS3) need to realize that sometimes simplistic works, I could do everything on the iPhone super fast and easy, no digging through menus, or wondering what noise my phone just made, the iphone is simple stress free. May I add that a lot of the apps I ACTUALLY use, not the hundreds you have and never open... are more polished than android? However android has made great strides in making the OS fast, easy, polished, and the apps as well... I believe and love android, but certainly understand why someone would use and iPhone. I dont get why there is such a hate from both sides! lol they are phones!! They push each other to be better, and we WIN! So hurray for apple, and hurray for google.... but more importantly.... HURRAY FOR US!

Where The F Is My Nexus OTA Update? L710VPLG8!

I have had three over the air updates since I took my Nexus out of the box. I am finding out that there is a better OTA for people that live in LTE areas. Like LG8 or LG9?
Is this true? How can I update my phone now? I don't won't to root I just want apply the factory update like via zip file or something.
My phone keeps picking 3G over 4G. For instance when I go upstairs its 4G but when I go downstairs its 3G. This is so frustrating because I know the 4G signal is still good enough to stay on.
Does anyone know of a way to force LTE only on the Nexus or how to get the MLS Code without rooting? I might be able to adjust it from the inner settings.
Guys I really need some help here because this LTE experience I am having really blows.

You are confusing the L710VPLG8 update that Sprint is rolling out for the Galaxy S 3, a completely different device, with whatever the latest update is for the Galaxy Nexus. (I am no expert on the Gnex, but I was the one who advised you about that firmware version over in the Sprint GS3 General Forum. You posted your question in the wrong forum since it turns out that you actually have a Galaxy Nexus.)
Where the f is your brain... its not even even the same model number. The gnex is the SPH-L700 not 710.... and the latest update is FG01.

Uber you are so full of it , why don't you finish your statement ... is your brain? I never mentioned my brain in my original statement you brought that up making it personal. I never directed my comments to anyone in my original statement. You are just in a hole so deep you will do anything to get out.
As far as the link goes I'll check that out and get back to you hopefully it helps.

My phone keeps picking 3G over 4G. For instance when I go upstairs its 4G but when I go downstairs its 3G. This is so frustrating because I know the 4G signal is still good enough to stay on.

Tegrak

Hey guys. I've got a gs2 and I'm thinking about this device but I might just wait until the s4 comes out. Undecided at this point. Anyway the reason for this thread is because I didn't see any others about the fact that we can now overclock the stock kernel with tegrak overclock, as long as you're rooted, from the play store. Most of you probably already know this and if there is a thread on this topic then just delete this but I didn't see one so I thought I would share the info.

Why don't you just buy the phone used on Craig list they go for about 200/250 in Chicago I seen one sold for 150 and save your upgrade. This is a good phone but better things are already popping up. I say get this on Craig list is because it would at least give you 4g lte, wimax don't compare on speeds. And where I live wimax is not availbe my girl friend hates sprint with 3g but. Love using my phone 4g lte because I can tether my net to her phone.

Yeah most likely where I live I'll never see lte. Never saw wimax so that I definitely won't see either lol. I mostly use wifi because I can't stand 3G either. I'll have to check out Craigslist though. You can get one for $119.00 on Amazon wireless. But then again you are burning an upgrade on last year's device. The gs2 with stock jellybean is pretty cool though. It'll be even better once we get source but who knows how long we'll have to wait for that. Hopefully soon.

My personal opinion would be to hold off for the s4 I LIKE me s3 but with the s2 also running JB it can do for most part all that the s3 can do minus NFC. If you look at them on paper you will see a minor all around spec jump. However you look at the s2 on paper and what people are guessing the s4 will have that should be a major jump. Plus samsung is really neck and neck with apple right now at least by wall streets anaylists so I am sure the s4 is going to be just a beast of a phone and hopefully put that final nail in apples coffin. The s3 almost did it
Made leaps and bounds more than any other android hand set to date so that should say something so it will be very exciting to see what the s4 will look like. And also done forget Google is working on the x phone. I imagine that will be a beast of a phone as well. As it will be Motorola and googles first tight collaboration since the acquisition.

Yeah 99 bucks is a great deal but I don't to burn the upgrade just yet. I was so close to doing it too but I'm going to just wait for the s4. Besides other than the leaks for the s2 I've been running, which have been really great, we still haven't seen the final build or source yet so it's only going to get better.

This is how is ShOuLd be...
HTC should force carriers to keep up with updates. Just because our DEVs can crack their S-OFF blocking doesn't mean they should delay updates (granted we don't know this for sure, but, I believe this is why) .
For HTC to enforce that all HTC Ones get the updates we deserve is how they should enforce their phones. Will we see this?
Doubtful, but never count anything out.
HTC does LOVE their HTC One family...

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. HTC seems intent on keeping their flagship up to date. I hope they keep it up. Maybe theyll get enough good press people will buy this amazing device and they'll clear a profit. Don't want this OEM to go belly up.

It would be very sad to see HTC fail. After owning the S4 and spending some time with the Moto X and G2, nothing holds a candle to the One. I hope more people realize this and HTC can climb back to the top of android sales.

Agreed. This phone is ridiculous.

Way the article read this is for gsm HTC one. Verizon one is its own entity. After all I don't see them skipping 4.3 for 4.4. When they release 4.3 they sure ain't going to turn right around and push another major update. Plus this guy from HTC promised us 4.3 at the end of October then last minute changed his story. Like he didn't know that it would be delayed.

This brings up an interesting point. Every time I go to purchase a new device, The reps try to talk me out of buying an HTC. It usually takes me telling them 2 or 3 times that I have made up my mind. The reps act as though owning an HTC is taboo, lol.
I take Verizon to always be an exception to such a proclamation. I'm sure HTC will have something ready for Verizon within 90 days, but Verizon will inevitably delay it for their own purposes.

HTC will probably still release 4.4 on our One. When Verizon gets around to it is a whole different story. Our devs will hook us up when it releases on gsm Ones.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Couldn't HTC theoretically "leak" a Verizon version of 4.4 somewhere online and kind of circumvent Verizons process, and allow the s-off people to install it?
I mean I'm not sure they'd ever do this but isn't it possible?
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk
There was a release of an Android version (can't remember if it was Froyo or what) for the Droid Eris that had been leaked prior to the official release. I always assumed HTC did this on purpose. At the time however, flashing that build - for some technical reason - made it impossible to flash the newer build that was officially released. One of you around during the days of the Eris probably know the events better than I do.

I'm sure there is a chance of that but, at this point, with HTC's current financial crisis I think the last thing they would want to do is anger Big Red if it somehow got traced back to HTC. Verizon could shun HTC altogether and we'd all be shafted out of the next versions of this device. I'd love for it to happen but it won't. As always we'll have to rely on our awesome Devs to give us something Verizon seems hell bent on releasing entirely too late and in some cases not at all. Look at newt's 4.3 Sense 5.5. It's been out for what? A month? He got it up and running for us. Dude is a beast.
4.4 was released to AOSP yesterday so it's only a matter of time before CM churns one out.
Of course they could always go with "What happened? On no! Uhhh... We got hacked? Yeah... Hacked..."
