Broken USB Port KF2 - Kindle Fire 2 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting

Well I screwed up. USB Port started to not work and when I pulled it apart the Port Ripped off of the main board. It actually damaged the pcb where it ripped the tracks out. So I'm unsure of what to do. I just bid on a broken screen KF2 on ebay.
But Wondering if anyone knows of where I can get a broken KF2 that prob has this part?

Just send it back to Amazon and they will send you a new one, Just say you pulled in the cable, nothing happened, went to remove it and the port broke away from the PCB, Should be covered by the warranty.

Its rooted and on JellyBean!
lol just got off the phone with Amazon. So the lady guided me through some things and then we go to plug it up... the damn Tablet Charges! WTF! lol I guess the Data connectors were the ones damaged (I did try to resolder but the only ones that would were the two outside).
This is Bew Shhhhh lol

Yeah two outside pins are power, and you voided the warranty buy opening it and soldering on to it, live and learn, eh?

I wanna cry! Even tho its not the best device I've had, because the crap memory and no camera.... but besides that, this lil thing rocks on CM10. Powerful, Smooth and no flaws. I am gonna try to get as much for it as possible. It still charges so thats a plus. Only way to transfer data to it is via wifi, google drive and so on. Hopefully I can get enough for it in its condition to pickup another one with some additional cash.

Resoldering/hot glue manuever micro usb

Ok, so my micro usb port broken. Even though that was the case, I could still bend it to make it charg.(Note I got this phone at the I/O conference last year, it broke almost immedietly, I didn't attend this years)
So then I got a replacement for 15$ (<< A LOT OF MONEY)
Resoldered it, but I was unsure of how stable it was, since there are only about 2 places it is soldered to.
I put cable in, and then I touch it quite a bit, and bam, whole connector falls of. Tried to repair, but then a bit of solder falls into the micro usb port, and it's like impossibe to get it out of, and I can't put the connector in...
Moar 15$
This time, I put a bit of solder, and then hotglue over the joints.
I though victory, until I realize I can't plug the connector in anymore, don't know why it wouldn't. Just won't fit(Maybe recieved bad, never checked)...
15$ more dollars now...
Anyone else successfully repair the micro usb port on these? I am going to just try a hot glue approach, with no soldering next try.
I don't have any warranty on this, as it was a gift after all.
When my port went out, the techs at Sprint told me that it was impossible to fix. I don't know if that's true, or if it was just cheaper to give me a new one.

I tried to repair my wife's with no luck. I eventually took the phone back to Sprint repair store and they replaced it no questions asked, although we had the warranty service. I did find a few articles online if you search google they should come up. I tried their methods but the problem I always had was I could not get the solder to flow well enough to bond to the connector. From the looks of the connector it is a flush mount which really makes soldering impossible unless you have one of the factory wave type solder machines.
Well, the connector I bought kind of goes thru the holes on the EVO. I will just simply hotglue it, no solder... should stay stuck hopefully.
I just hope the metal makes decent contact without more solder. Will report back when I fail/win. It would be awesome if I could just whine to Sprint for a replacement, but uh, no warranty + a gift phone =low chance
I bought this for others, http://cgi.ebay.com/MICRO-USB-CHARG...ps=63&clkid=9172696127650377355#ht_997wt_1139
Note the two feet sticking out, the generic ones don't have these, that would be hell to solder. I just hate the fact that these things are so fragile and expensive.
Got it soldered.
I had to have steady aim pro(perk for Cod4 )
With a very little bit of solder I got it sticking.
Then hot glued all over, like your average male's jizz amount of hot glue I used.(That's actually a good camparison before you get grossed out)
It works great.

[Q] Faulty USB port, software problem or not?

Hi guys!
I am normally on Xperia phones, but a mate gave me a Desire Z to try.
But there is one problem, the phone won't charge.
Can this be due to a software problem, so reinstall the stock firmware (and where can I find the right RUU), or do I have to dissambly the phone to replace the usb port?
Sorry for asking it so directly, but as I said, phone is only to try/repair...
Thanks anyway!
i bought a g2 off ebay with a faulty usb port. i the got a new usb port for around 6 dollars that i was to solder in. but before i went through all that i decided to inspect the old one. turns out there was a small piece of copper wire or something stuck in there, i took a little pick and forced it out. now everything works great! well slightly touchy when plugged in but almost perfect. i dont think the metal piece was part off the usb port but rather just a random foreign object. who knows maybe you could get lucky too! anyhow you can always flash a different rom and if your problem persists then i would go straight to a hardware problem, good luck!

[Q] Broken Usb Port

My Inc. USB port came completely off and i lost it. Can someone please link me to a replacement part and tell me ow to re-solder it to the board? I've done countless Google searches and nothing has come up for the incredible. Thanks.
You mean something like this?

I had a friend's Dinc here not too long ago with a busted port, but I pretty quickly came to the conclusion that replacing it is far beyond my limited soldering abilities. So I can't help you there.
Also, be careful not to get a port for the Dinc2, they are on their own little board and would be much easier to replace. On our OG Dincs' though, the connector is soldered right on the main board. Replacing that is not for the faint of heart (or the shaky of hands).
Radio shack sells a universal battery charger(I wanted to buy it locally and not have to wait days for shipping with no backup phone). I've been using one for months since my USB port is broken. I tried to resolder the piece back on but I'm really rusty at soldering and I didn't want to further damage the board and risk having to get a new phone $40 vs cost of a new phone. The universal charger works fine. Obvious down side is the phone is unusable when charging. Having no data cable is no big deal there are plenty of other ways to move sh!t about.

That WAS my original plan. I tried to order 2 extended batteries 1800mah + wall charger from htcexpress.com. Needless to say I got jerked in the whole process. 2 weeks went by I was charged for an item that never shipped. I called/email got no response. I had to open up a claim with Bank of America to get my money back. I said fu¢k it after that and settled for the universal charger I was already so freakin pissed. To make it worse the lady at radio shack kept dissin my phone.
I'm also back on your rom. Random side note. Pre 2am nonsense.

I thought about buying an external charger for the Dinc with broken USB port I had in here, and I could have done that, but... the guy didn't really care about the phone, he had a bunch of pictures on it he wanted to recover. Apparently, when his phone quit charging, he was on the road, took it to a Verizon store (thinking a new battery or a new charger would fix it), and the lady there formatted his /emmc while trying to fix a battery charging issue??? Needless to say he was not happy. I was gonna try running some data recovery stuff on it to see what we could salvage, but without a working USB port we were out of luck. He was actually thinking about paying somebody to repair the thing in hopes we could save some of the pictures, but he must have decided against it as he hasn't mentioned it lately. I guess he got a painful lesson in the importance of backups...

[HOWTO][VIDEO] Note II Micro USB Flex Port replace

Hi guys.
Recently, I had to change out my micro usb charging port because the previous one stopped working. I don't know if it had to do with heat issues and messed up the soldering. Sprint said it was because of water damage, but I'm very very protective of my phone and have yet to have any contact with water in it.
When I got the piece, I figured that I would make a video on how easy it is to replace the piece. I've never contributed to this site, so I figured I'd like to do something
I ordered the flex piece from this site for $11.

Never done something risky like this before, but it sure was rewarding getting it done. In the mean time, when I waited for the piece to come through in the mail, I bought a charger from Ellis batteries for $15 and a separate battery. I wonder if I can return it :3.
Hope it's helpful

Alot of my friends had this issue, and so did I, luckily I was covered by warranty. But I was f***ing heartbroken when it happened. When/if this crap happens again I will know to find your post. This is freaking awesome!
I almost feel like samsung knew they put fragile ports and crap in the phone because from what ive noticed most of the components are attached with ribbon cables instead of soldered. I ordered a new headphone jack due to worn out pins, and I wont be suprised if I have to replace the usb port one day.

Awesome It was a crap feeling that I had to dish out $50 for a battery and charger that was only temporary (guess I'll be using the extra battery as a means of emergency power, especially when going downtown)
m4xwell - I think it sort of goes both ways. Essentially, the pieces being easily replaced was in fact a smart idea. Of course the downside is that the pieces are a little more fragile as you said. Thing is, with the constant wear and tear in plugging in the charger, I would imagine that the ports would get worn out in a matter of time. I feel micro usb vs mini usb has some weird differences, with the micro usb being more fragile. My old nokia and LG flip phone had zero problems with the charging port. Guess the dinosaur age is still king

I also know a best place to buy Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Parts Replacement. That is HCQS. It is a wonderful supplier which special provides mobile phone parts replacements. For more you can visit hcqs.com.cn.

[Q] Fried video

Hello all.
I took my KF apart because the USB port had broken (not just desoldered, actually broken). Comparing prices for a new port and a new motherboard, I opted to get an unregisterable motherboard because it was only a few dollars more.
I plugged it in and experienced something very similar to a snow crash, except without the crash. Thinking that the new motherboard was at fault, I plugged in the original and experienced the same thing.
What did I do to screw up my KF? I thought I was being super careful. Is there a way to fix it?
Thanks.
Since my kf is basically dead I decided I can't do much more harm by continuing to take it apart. In doing so I noticed, though barely perceptible, that the data cable to the screen is torn on one corner where it connects to the screen controller and in fact one or more of the printed wires is/are severed. Alas, I shall miss my kf. Too bad the printed cable can't be fixed.
So, the lesson is: The video data cable is far more fragile than it appears. If you need to remove it, be extremely careful when handling it. And... Perhaps make sure your devices are unplugged should you be willing to let your children use them. Otherwise they will possibly yank on the cord in the wrong way which might break your USB connector and cause you to try to fix the problem which in turn destroys your device.
