tips/tricks/hints/apps/ (Ask me something) (15th may) - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

This thread is part of Han's help plan (click here for more info)
i hope you guys find this usefull ive probably spent about 400 hours in total just browsing the internet for anything that is useful and not too complicated ive also been testing many different things for a while too
Updated: 15th of may
I made this thread for general tricks tips etc just so you know
Xperia S tips
Undervolting -
Undervolting your Phone can cause issues. undervolting your phone from its default settings is usefull (saves battery and stuff) but undervolting too much can cause your android to have a lack of power to some parts and well CRASH!, same with overvolting , too much and it will burn out parts., i suggest taking it step by step untill you get a slight lag.
-/system/app
Take not Un-installing unnecessary apps like maps facbook and talk will SPEED up your phone Alot. WARNING - uninstalling the wrong app can cause your phone to bootloop so you will have to RE-Flash the rom or do a restore
-Sreenshots ICS (im sure this will be like this in Jelly bean)(At first i was Like WTF?!!)
This took me a while to find but in ICS to take a Screenshot you press the power button (button on top of your device) and the Volume down)
-Camera Quality
Lower ISO means less noise but darker images , raise the Exposure enough to match your image to well what you see , superior auto is kinda useless, , i find 200 Iso is best because it captures colour quite decently, anyway what im saying is Manualy set up your camera for best quality AIs are never good at guessing
-Battery life
ive knoticed that com.sonyericson.android.wakeup stopped my phone from sleeping over 100's of times in about 4 hours , so if possible delete or freeze it , your device would sleep properly and your battery would last months well if it was sleeping. anyway i tried to avoid using apps like ilumination notifacation , it made my phone not sleep and well killed my battery
-Lag
Take note lot of build properties make your device lag more, it is best to use few and ones that ACTUALLY WORK
you can use a entropy generator (Seeder thread) this is the best way remove of lag
here are some that may help with touch response, these have made my device feel a tiny bit less laggy when scrolling
Touch response
touch.pressure.scale= 1.0 [instead of 0.0075]
touch.size.scale= 20.00 [ instead of 16.91]
touch.size.bias= 70.00 [instead of 67.65]
View.scroll_friction=10
ro.sf.compbypass.enable=0
persist.sys.use_dithering=0
ro.max.fling_velocity=12000
ro.min.fling_velocity=8000
Camera quality (these can cause focus problems)
ro.media.enc.jpeg.quality=100
ro.media.dec.jpeg.memcap=192000
ro.media.enc.hprof.vid.bps=192000
-Rom/Kernel Thingys
-bootloaders and kernels
BIG NOTE - YOU CANT INSTALL KERNELS ON LOCKED BOOT-LOADERS
to check if your boot-loader is locked go to your phone keypad (where you put phone numbers in) and punch in *#*# 7378423#*#*
it should open something called "Service Menu" you would want to then go to Service info then Configuration
There should be some text below everything else saying Rooting Status: Bootloader unlocked: yes. this means you can unlock your bootloader
to unlock your bootloader you can use the sony flashtool and run a bootloader unlock , from then you can install custom kernels compatible with your ROM and your Device
-roms
installing some roms means you sometimes need a custom kernel (like i said earlier unlocked bootloader) there are instructions to install on Almost all ROMS/Kernels, YOU MUST FOLLOW THEM ALL otherwise you may encouter problems (example wifi not working because mis-installant of kernel)
-Dual Boot
having a dual boot system on your device may make it alittle more laggy thats only just after installing i have noticed once its run through everything a couple of times its less laggy
-memory cleaners
most memory cleaners can cuase problems ive had a few issues with apps being damaged by a ram clearer of sutch
-Bare results
Build.prop
touch response= smoother , mild increase in performance
camera quality= less noise , focusing problems
other props= more lag (tested props)
Dual boot= only laggy after fresh install on loop Rom/kernel
Seeder= perfect (dont use android tuner entropy generator and seeder at the same time causes FC on seeder)
anything else , just ask me and ill test it
sorry for bad English, English is my 5th language and it is the hardest thing ive found to learn so far

Hello guys,
VIO is a free Windows Mobile Application based on motion detection
How does it work ?
--------------------------------------
VIO uses the phone's camera to capture and detect any motion.
Motion will be detected by comparing the actual picture with one reference picture that will be automatically refreshed (settings allow you to specify when it must be refreshed)
Two ways of comparison are available :
- Squares
Easy way and really fast ; the picture will be cut to squares, you just need to specify square's width + squares sensibility + minimum squares needed to trigger an alert
- Edges
More accurate but slower ; the difference between actual picture and reference picture will give us some zones, these zones will be extracted one by one, if one contains the minimum pixels needed you set then it will trigger an alert.
When motion is detected VIO will :
- save picture as .jpg
- send mails containing pictures to the email address you defined.
- send sms to alert you anywhere
More descriptions (V1 infos, i didn't updated about V2 now) here :
http://vio-detection.com/index.php?page=vio
Versions
----------------------
V2
==
- Edges detection
- Dead zones
- New menu
- Play sound on motion detected
V1
==
- Detect any motion
- Automatically save pictures
- Send emails with pictures included
- Send sms alert
- Set detection sensibility
- Compatible from Windows Mobile 5.0 to 6.5
- Compatible with all screen resolutions
- Need NET Compact Framework 3.5
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Use it as you wish, Enjoy
how this works ..can u put across more stuff...
tashan
There it is
I didn't give a lot of explications but it's better to try by yourselves.
Tried on HD2, but it does not capture anything. Should I be able to see the camera or?
You're the second one to tell me that it doesn't works on HD2, actually i don't have any clue.
Can you tell me what camera's resolutions are available plz ?
Plus if you find a file like "VIO-Errors.log" in your root can you plz tell me the content ?
Thanks
I will give i a try, because i will test all apps that's support the cam.
But one question i have now:
Which camera is used in this case (back or front)?
Report:
Tested on my phone (signature), but the app will not startup.
I see the cursor animation but nothing happens. Softreset was done.

Hey
No error log The camera solutions - well I dont know but its 5MP...
I will try to run all the solutions in VIO. BUT - should I be able to SEE the camera caoture?
Yep there must be a live preview, don't waist your time by searching if any other parameters will fix it, if you already don't have any preview then it will not works.
I f i got free time maybe i will try to find what the problem is.
Thanks
Thanks for the share. VIO works as specified with no errors on HTC Touch (cdma).
WRITE WITH BIG RED LETERS IN YOUR POST THAT THIS APP VIO CAN TOTALY MESS YOUR DEVICE AND ONLY HARD RESET WILL HELP YOU!!!
Im very pissed my phone was super costumized and etc.. after i install VITO cab and restart... ONLY Blank Screen the Phone even don`t wana START so only Volume Key Down + Volume Key Up + Power Button HELP me!!!
developing
Any app under development can cause problems. It's all use at your own risk otherwise you'd be buying it off an app store. Hopefully you backed up your phone extensively and can restore it.

Works perfectly on my Mogul. Awesome!
In my HTC HD2 log file, show something about cannot find Pinvoke on Native.dll
Works fine on my Diamond but only after installing it to the main mem. Doesn't like being installed to internal storage.
Thanks!!

Theoretically couldnt this app be used to emulate an accelerometre on devices that lack the hardware, or am I completely wrong?

Hi, it's probably linked to the file "\Program Files\VIO\settings.conf", please try to delete it and start the app.
To Uppy => yep it can be done somehow but it's really hard to make something reliable for some reasons :
- how do the phone know his start position
- only slow motions can make it works because of the slow fps
- etc..
I see, still an interesting idea, even if it's not practical.
Great app, none the less
Great app with much potential, thank you.
I think this is a great app. But there is one thing I am missing why not send the email through wifi. In that case you can put your phone any where in the reach of your network. (great for spare phones)

[Kernel]Touchscreen Fix for m1ndh4x8r Sense 2.1 and 3.5 and other GB 2.3.5 ROMS[3-28]

Sense only, not for cm7
Remember that I made a GB2.3.3 Gaming ROM cause GB2.3.5 have multitouch issue in games eg. Nova, Sandstorm it's like playing on a keyboard with a broken mouse, whenever you try to look right thumb, while left thumb is still on screen it will look only once then unresponsive.
We'll if your still on m1ndh4x8r roms or other GB2.3.5 roms, and likes to play gameloft games without problems, I have made a fix in the kernel that would remove this problem, and fix two thumbs simultaneous use, and not worry about hitting your enemy while running.
Download
Code:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dhznbecb42u2k9d
V2 update
Add IO schedulers
Add Governors
V3 update
Clean and recompiled
No wipe, just flash it.
Also compatible with Gaming ROM
Please hit thanks if it works for you.
im using your gaming rom
but as same at the m1ndh4x8r, my WFS still freeze at the lock screen, it totally not response. It very hard to unclock the phone. And the same issue when i try to end a call.
the important thing is after unlock, it work normally.
So, i dont know its a hardware problem or because the ROM?
any way to fix that? Thank
Sorry for bad english
For your information it is not related to kernel or rom, it is your digitizer that is broke
search google "wildfire s digitizer".
Also I don't have that problem in any rom or my rom.
better luck next time
OK, everybody it's ready for download. it's final version of fix.
I'll test this out ! Thanks for sharing.
(I'll edit here to report)
In stock firmware 2.14.401.1 cyclic rebooting. Or, after turning the device completely freezes. (no answer on the screen or keyboard)
P.s. S-OFF, CWM

well. i had this problem, too. on one earlier rom (dont know). But reinstall solved this problem
some phones dont support overclock thats why it freezes. sorry.
Hi i have a problem with this kernel not with the fix itself but after flashing this kernel each time that i try to turn the WiFi it says error and does not connect
Can you make a fix?
This just doesn't work at all when I tried it with CM7. It essentially broke the touchscreen - wasn't working at all. Artefacts were also coming up on the screen
cm7 is has a different kernel from sense. this is for sense only. also if you have wifi issues the zip wasnt flashed right. flash it 2x to be sure it overwrited the files.
Well, not editing since there were quite a number of replies.
It works much better than before, thanks ! It used to lag like as fu*k when unlocking the screen, and sometimes just randomly. Now it still has glitches and some slow times, but nothing compared to before. Nice job !
F*ck this sh*t "fix"/. Installed it 10 times but the same.. doesn't boot. My phone was with 2.1 m1ndh4xer and it was overclocked and was very good...

If it was so good, why'd you do it ? Anyway, you just have to flash the kernel back from the ROM you were using...

Thanks a lot for this! Flashed this kernel after doing a nandroid backup. With your latest GB2.3.5 stable / premium features rom it works fine, showing a lot more governors and i/o schedulers to choose from.
It seems that with this kernel I need to reduce OC one step. It seems to be more hardware demanding...
Had to reduce from 806 to 787 MHz in order to complete Antutu latest version benchmark. If I don't reduce OC, Antutu freezes at 7% testing (cpu).
Quadrant doesn't freeze phone and doesn't force me to remove battery...
Tomorrow I will test the gaming abilities of this kernel and will post results as soon as I can.
Thanks again for your constant work.
Edit: gave up using this kernel due to cpu instability.

Because of the multitouch in AirHockey game. It's wrote that it fixes it.. but nope.. And after flashing the kernel back all my data was deleted. However I've already reflashed mindhexer's ROM and now I'm ok
I tested this, and the multitouch works great, and the overall touchscreen experience is much better. However, this kernel's underclock is higher than my old one (m1ndh4x8r's) and my device freezes randomly. Also, there is a bug where the sound goes to mute and you can't bring the volume back up until the phone lets you do it (15 minutes - half an hour later). Not worth a better score in Fruit Ninja, in my opinion, but if you can fix these bugs it'd be a great replacement kernel
does it have overclock to 825mhz
really fix my multi-touch issue cool and i love it
Can somebody upload this somewhere else?

Battery effiecient settings tips for our 1X (May help some with battery problem)

I am on Stock Rom (Forgot to mention this)
I average about 3.30 hours of screen time with my settings everyday, today I had 4.30 hours, 1.4 Internet surfing, 30 min voice calls, and 12 hours of wifi, total time 22.54 hours.
This is my best so far: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...79392&page=114 (I think I can reach better results (Have better average results now)
Also please feel free to share your settings.
My settings:
Unlocked and rooted.
LED Notifications off (except for SMS).
Fastboot in power settings unticket.
Sound Settings - Turned sensors Off: Quiet ring on pick up, Pocket mode, Flip for speaker.
Brightness Control using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...rightnesslevel (I mostly leave it at 15% its more than enough for my vision at least, then if out and its really sunny I just switch to 50% its a widget so its easy to use).
All vibration settings, haptic feedback and stuff off(except for phone calls).
All auto-sync off (everything updates when you enter it like email and weather and others so no need to be on).
All animations Off (you won't notice any difference after awhile so it might as well be off).
Phone dial, keyboard and other tones off.
In developer options-> Background process limit set to 3. (Reverts after reboot/restart)
Using Core Control, can be found here (Must be rooted) http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1652136 and I have it set to 2 cores. (Reverts after reboot/restart)
Have the backlights on the 3 capacitive buttons on the bottom off at all times using Tasker using a mod made by backfromthestorm, credits go to him and nobnut, mod can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1657619&page=3 (Reverts after reboot/restart).
Another mod from backfromthestorm (which can be found in the link above aswell)is better multi-tasking which changes the values in sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree file to 1536,2048,3584,5120,15360,20480, I set the values using Tasker. (Reverts after reboot/restart).
Another thing I do before going to sleep or not going to use the phone for a few hours is I use the built in app Task Manager's and kill all tasks and then turn the screen off, by doing this I have noticed that battery percentage doesn't mysteriously drop without using it.
Can't remember what other settings I may have at the moment but will add if memory allows
I have frozen the following apps and others:
I thought this way would be quicker and easier, I hope at least excuse my laziness otherwise

Old thread could not be re-opened so I copied the contents, I hope people that comment here keep it clean and to the subject.
Decent stats:
This was pretty much hardcore non-stop usage.
This was pretty much not letting the phone rest from the moment it finished charging.
Will do some video tests later to see how long it can last while watching some HD flicks.

Thanks for all the tweaks, I have never had more than 2.5 hour screen time. Ill shall now use some of your settings to mix my own frozen yogurt (edit Ice Cream yogurt) . So far CM9 seems to be my bag, but I bought the phone for the camera...
Very useful thread, thanks
Just one thing though, the LEDs used for the LED Notifications use so little power that you can leave them enabled and it will drain next to no power at all! Not sure about the capacitive LEDs though, I can't imagine they use much power either!

You are welcome, yeah I know that the LEDs may not save much battery at all but one thing I like about the capacitive lights is that I have the options as widget shortcuts on my screen so I can turn them on when I feel like I need them, but most of the time I keep them off

Ok, the build.prop edits he mentions,
busybox echo "debug.sf.hw = 1" >> /system/build.prop ----- renders UI with GPU
busybox echo "video.accelerate.hw=1" >> /system/build.prop ----- Increases responsiveness of the video
busybox echo "ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1" >> /system/build.prop ---- this is to force the default launcher into memory. I excluded this because most launchers already stay in memory and this tweak is known to fail when the launcher used is heavy. Probably why the line has been striked off in the OP's post but seems to still be there in flashable zip
busybox echo "persist.sys.use_dithering = 1" >> /system/build.prop ----- this is to enable surface dithering, in other words this may improve visual quality but is also known to cause banding in some devices that's why I didn't include it in my post. It's safe enough to try but you know what to remove if it gives you lines across the screen whenever the color contrast is changing.
Other than that the graphics library included is essentially a touchscreen driver to re-calibrate the touch response, this will definitely work, it is not a placebo but I cannot say if it'll actually make it better or less responsive.
As far as the script included goes, there's a good chance that it won't work.
The script is referring to "/sys/class/touch/switch/set_touchscreen" but we don't even have a touch class

And even if we did, I'm not sure I would use the same values as he has.
As far as the antutu score goes, I don't trust the scoring system even a little bit
It's highly unreliable in terms of accessing the exact performance index, but it is good for dividing the phones performance in quadrants confirming you have a better (or worse) hardware than other phones
Conclusion : You can flash this if you want to, but I wouldn't.
Build.prop tweaks can be manually tested and removed.
You can recalibrate your touch on your own although you don't really need to.
And like I said, the script is referring to an address that doesn't exist at that location in our phone.

busybox echo "persist.sys.use_dithering = 1" >> /system/build.prop ----- this is to enable surface dithering, in other words this may improve visual quality but is also known to cause banding in some devices that's why I didn't include it in my post.

Haha, it's no trouble at all. You didn't make poor judgements, you shared something that you thought would improve performance for our phones, and if this was our device specific there might have been improvements in atleast the touch rendering through GPU.
You asked me to comment on it, so I opened the code and explained each part to the best of knowledge . That's what xda is for, to learn new things about the devices we use everyday and explore what more can be done with them!
This is a thousand times better than the usual spam that flows through grand duos community, so keep exploring XDA for useful threads till you know enough to start developing yourself

Obi sf1 after 6 months

Hello guys
i got the 3 giga byte / 32 internal for about 80 dollars
wat's good about the phone
1- 3 giga ram - 32 internal storage
2- excellent screen coloring and brightness + gorilla glass 3
3- very good in gaming
4- free ram is about 1.2 gigabyte so multi tasking is very good
5- rear cam take very good pics in good lighting, front camera with flash wide angle and it's very good as well and the camera app is simple (copy of snap camera).
6- network and call quality is very good
7- wifi signal is better than my brother s7 edge
8- Material is very good and design is cool
wat's bad about the phone
1- Dailer bug (when i try to call sometimes it works from the first time sometimes two times sometimes three sometimes i get mad) i googled it and found that it's a problem with android 5.0.* i tried every thing possible to fix it but couldn't, got more than 50 bootloops and still trying.
2- the ui animation is slow even with changing the launcher and lowering the animations from developer mode still sucks
battery is below normal and full charging time is about 3 hours i wish if the screen was HD it would be better i decreased the resolution using app called ituner (tried alot of apps and this one is the best) but it didn't help with the battery or the animations
3- the speaker quality is good but very low, if the phone is ringing in crowd you won't be able to hear it.
4- GPS is not fast and the signal sucks and drop alot, it's maybe software problem.
5- take long time to boot
6- no cases and no screen protectors no updates no support, the company left the business maybe
I rooted the phone and installed xposed
couldn't fix the bugs but got some new features
i also tried to port roms from devices with same specs, i tried more than 10 stock roms none booted
i kept searching and trying till i found two rom booted successfully
drive.google/uc?export=download&confirm=gCAD&id=1ct6TCHxTeYUxy89Y5pFxNhURrgrh7dsZ (this rom is better)
