Best kernel xperia S CM10?Battery life... - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hi guys,
i know that this question been asked already but being not so smart would like to ask first before doing anything..
Running CM10 FX210 on xperia s at the moment everything seems fine pretty much it's just battery seems similar to official ISC ..main reason for using custom rom was to improve battery..now I've been reading that there's few other kernels you can flash in recovery with better battery life..problem is which one i dare to use..some people getting stuck on bootloops after flashing ...also people suggesting that should stay away from custom roms such as CM because they use more of battery since they preform really good..maybe I shold try any stock rom?Any suggestions?
appreciate any response on this silly questions...
p.s. so my point just need rom or kernel for cm10 with good battery life...no need for playing games or to be superfast etc...:silly:

The only custom kernel for CM10 I think is Nova... It should be better than stock but... The best is relative. At the first 4 versions of KA kernel, for example, most people loved it, phone was way better, but mine never liked it... So it wasn't the best FOR ME.

thanks for reply mate..
I'm trying to download latest which is NovaKernel-nozomi-1.6.zip but it doesn't want to start download..any mirror link for this?
Should i go for latest or read somewhere that 007 version is the best battery friendly but seems way to old to 1.6?

one more question..
How to install stock rom over CM10 in my case? Do I have to use flash tool as well just put zip on phone and flash it?
thank you...

Go ahead with nova 1.6, it was giving me great battery life on aokp ROM.

Using the stock CM10 kernel. Battery life is much better than stock ROM / Kernel.
I use WiFi only when needed, 3G is off and brightness is 50%. Don't use much CPU except for a handful of widgets.
Will try Nova too.

I would recommend you the Nova Kernel
Switch your governour to "intellidemand".
I got appx 3 days with 4-5 hours screen time, by using 2G when screen is off and flight moder over night for 6 hours.

I can recommend Nova and KA as any othes of you, too =)

So Nova is the best .

I have problem with GPS when using stock rom, so I decided to flash custom rom. Thank you, but I don't think stock rom is better than the custom rom
And you think GPS will work better on a custom rom ?
Try CM7.2 if you want so much a custom rom
Yes, I think so
Use 7.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1381355
It's fast and stable.
Maybe your GPS working good. You should check its work in the open area. Not in the flat.
Use CM7.2. It's stable and fast, improves your battery life and so on.
If you want a ROM based on stock rom I would recommend GioPro 1.4
hi
i tried the cm7.2 and was a excellent ROM and the GPS pick up in seconds
but now i´m trying the cm9 lol xD
Before you go trying custom ROM's, make absolutely certain that your phone is a GT-S5660. If you've got the "other Gio", you're in for a suprise. Cause all the custom roms on this site probably won't work on it.

I have "the other" Gio and CM9 Beta 1 works fine. "Probably" you should try the ROM first before saying it won't work. The only difference between the GT-S5660 and the GT-S5660M is the radio. Mine appears to connect fine on Fido and finds Bell/Telus networks so it doesn't look like flashing a custom ROM had any impact on the radio. In the past I have flashed the wrong baseband on a number of phones and sticks and the fix usually is to just reflash the original.
Use CM 7.2! In 7.2 there's many more features worth looking
Definitely the best Custom ROM out there for both performance and looks (with appropriate theme of course)
CM 7.2 is the best so far.
well, Cm72 is the best ever, but if you see yourself a noob.. use cyanoobs

ICS on telus sgh-t959d

If you are looking for a rom/kernel for the Telus SGH-t959d try cyanogen 9 build 16 and semaphore kernel(0.9.1)-working 99.5%!!! The only thing that is not 100% is the battery drain-I only get about 1 1/2 days max-with darkys rom I got 2 days plus no problem.
No home or back button issues, all apps restored with Titanium without issues....
Have Fun!

link to Semaphore http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468795
updated to build 17 without semaphore kernel-battery so far seems longer, but I did have 1 random reboot though.
.

Now have drZMIUI ICS with semaphore 090 kernel-updated to 095b- working pretty good at this time-couple of force closes nothing major, only thing that seems to keep re-occurring is the settings/superuser permissions sometimes get reset.+Don't use deep idle-keeps locking up phone.
Gonna keep trying this one and CM9 for next couple of months to see what is the best

Hi, can I have a kind of status of your usage?
IS the CM rom better than the MIUI one?
I'm currently using glitch kernel with miui 2.3rom and I have a huge problem of signals.
I would really like to upgrade my phone with another kernel and rom, but I want to be sure that it work before.
Thanks for your answer.

Super Slow Xperia Arc

Hi All,
My Xperia Arc ( LT15i) is super slow.
Its much slower than my old HTC Desire.
I have done a Factory reset and a fresh update but still slow.
I am on Android 4.0.4 and using stock Rom build 4.1.B.0.587
Please advise any workaround.
If nothing, I'll try to root it and install AOSP Jelly bean rom.
I do not care if I have Jellybean or ICS, I just want the phone to be fast.
Does the custom roms really make a big difference ?
Thanks .
There are many custom roms for xperia arc/s which are faster than ICS and GB.
They are stable/alpha/beta roms. That is your wish to decide to install which ROM.
Look at the following thread - complete guide about kernel/roms/root/guides........
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653188
Hit "Thanks" if anyone helped you.:good:
Xperia Arc LT15i
Rooted/Bootloader Unlocked
Running Jelly Bean - FXP139/CM10
I've tried Milans ICS, it's quite fast.
timescape ui is really laggy. do vanilla android like cm9/10 or aokp will do
cm9 --- interactive governer, overclock to 1.6ghz through settings -do not use task killers, they are pointless and eats some resource away even if they do get the job done
yes 1.6ghz is safe, i have this setting for a while
although cm9/10, aokp kernel drain a more battery than stock firmware

The custom JB roms are really fast compared to ICS.
I've also got a LT15i; here's a quick overview of the steps needed to get JB on your phone.
unlock the bootloader (there's an official sony website to talk you through this)
flash a decent baseband (use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688049).
Flash a rom of your choice - I suggest the latest AOKP from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859518
Things you have to know: -
How to get flashtool installed on your computer, and your computer connected to your phone.
unlocking your bootloader loses your DRM.
So my advice is read up on the stuff you need to know (if you haven't found out all this stuff already).
Then backup your SD card to your computer.
Then do the steps (1-3) to get the latest AOKP rom. This rom is officially in testing, but it is stable and fast.
Good luck.
P.S. I'm using Baseband 77, but most people recommend baseband 72.
I'm using Lupus kernel, but you should start with the kernel included in the AOKP rom.
After you are comfortable with CWM backups, you can experiment a bit more without worrying too much about data loss.
(more good luck )

I don't think so my friend...
I have switched from cm10 to Milan ICS for 2 day and i am dissapointed
I change because i want to use a stable rom and every functions r working great
But my decision is wrong, stock ics is the most stable but i can't play any games without lag :banghead: Ram is low and it very annoying
P/s: i miss my cm10
Hit thank button if i helped u
CM 10 with Lupus Kernel and besttt fix is rock solid.
Fast, stable (no random reboots) and everything works.
And u dont need 1,6 Ghz. 1 Ghz is enough on CM 10.
Go to arconium gb rom
Possible to root without unlocking bootloader
Thanks all for such nice advise.
I am not new to rooting, had a rooted HTC Desire for 3 years
Though, I do not want to miss on the DRM ( if it has any use ).
Is it possible to root without unlocking bootloader ?
I think it is but would be great if you nice people can advise me of the advantages and disadvantages of rooting without unlocking.
I would go with CM or AOKP.
Edit: As mentioned by ironlady, does AOKP/CM drain more battery than stock ?
Why ? I would assume that with all the extras of the stock, more batter should be consumed.
AOKP/CM are almost nearing AOSP and are no frills, why they drain more battery ?
This was my observation with HTC Desire. The HTC Sense based roms always consumed more battery than AOSP.
Thanks again.

Well, I don't know what DRM is for - something about "digital media rights"
(It hasn't affected playback of movies or sounds on my phone.).
It is possible to root without unlocking bootloader, but then you can't have an AOKP/CM rom.
You need the unlocked bootloader to flash the custom kernel required by these roms.
(
Flashing a kernel requires running "flashtool" from a computer. before flashing the kernel you must copy the rom to your phone's SD card.
After you flash the kernel, boot the phone and press the "volume down" button when the buttons light up.
This gets you into CWM recovery where you can flash the rom
)
I'm pretty sure that the battery drain depends on how you set up the kernel. If you over-clock, then more battery drain. If you under-clock then better battery life.
After all of this two more points of advice: -
If you try CM10, then use the Lupus kernel, and instructions posted by "besttt" to set up your phone nicely. This is a more tricky install.
If you try AOKP, then install it normally as described in the 1st post of the thread
(the custom kernel is a file called "boot.img" in the rom. You need to extract the file, and flash it with flashtool when you're ready to install the rom).
This is an easier install.
Enjoy

[Q] So I rooted my phone, now what?

Hello again guys,
I sucessfully rooted my phone but now I have a problem. I have read through alot of forums and sites and I guess the next logical step is to get a new rom and kernel. Now I have done alot of reading about all this but I'm getting quite confused between the pair. From my understanding the kernel controls all the complex stuff like making your phone run faster/slower and increasing/decreasing battery life.... I'm stumped at what a rom is,it's like, the operating system but custom ones are more streamlined?
So what I'm asking for is a little information and some suggestions of what I should put onto my phone, I read something about a smartassv2 which is supposed to keep the phone more balanced, now im sure if it is a kernel or a governor?
Any help would be apprciated.
Have you put cwm or different recovery on your phone yet. Also do you have the CDMA or gsm version

Yeah, the utility I used to root it also installed cwm, I checked it out and did a backup which should be on my SD card now.
beleive it's gsm, it has a sim card and is on T-mobile.
Ive just installed link2sd and partitioned my sd card, was able to move over a game that I couldnt originally get over to the sd card, saving a bit of space.
Also with link2sd I was able to delete preinstalled bloat like twitter, friendstream, news, weather, stocks, etc.
So far a good day

smartassv2 is governer you can use cfq scheduler with it.
about suggestions:
after rooting you have two options:
use cyanogenmod roms:
cm9.1/cm10
(original modpunk cm9.1 ,speed droid,jelly king,miui etc)
use stock sense roms:
(wildchild etc,sense 3.5 etc)
these all are main roms after there are many variations like pacman rom, aokp build cm9 but they are not much stable at this time so.

Sorry to be a pain can you give me a little info about the listed roms? You put cm9.1/cm10 then the others in brackets, are they just like the same roms but with slight differences or is cynaogenmod a kinda name for those type of roms?
EDIT: Just looked up CyanogenMod.org, doesnt show that it supports HTC Wildfire S.

official cyanogenmod isn't support wildfire s.so dev made here unofficial cynogenmod which support cm9.1 and cm10 with some bugs.

note:
cm=cyanogenmod
cm9.1 aka ICS 4.0.4
cm10 aka JB 4.1.2
ps there are many other roms based on cm10 like pacman, miui and also slimroms ,paranoid(its tablet ui rom you can change dpi of any app widget its benefit of this rom)
but i havent tried them but you can.
Personal oppinion
When I rooted my wildfire s I was exactly like you. I started wondering what I should do or where I could find it.
After testing a few roms I will tell you what worked for me: Test different roms till you find the one that suits you.
Anyway, I'll tell you my advice:
- WildJOY joyOS First rom I tested. No bugs found.
- Modpunk's CM10 As far as I've read the rom every one uses as the base for their own ones.
- JellyKing This is the one I'm using right now. Active development and really smooth.
Jelly King V2.0
I flashed my phone with Jelly King V2.0 4 days back. Its working very smoothly.
You get 69 MB of internal space to install things.
Panorma mode in camera etc. Try it. you'll love it.

Kantry 123 made amazing job i really appreciate his hard work :good:
I don't find it that laggy as you say. Maybe it's because i don't spect too much from my little device. If i were you i'd try the kernel to test if it goes smoother or not.

from some reason, I prefer the CM 10.1, he works faster, more over, the CM 11 is not stable as CM 10.1 because it's newer,
When I was on stock rom my battery performance was much better,
My battery in 100% finished totaly after one phonecall or even taking picture with flash light on.
I buoght new battery from ebay, it's shipping right now to me and I hope it will fix the problem.
I have some questions:
1. which rom is better right now? (cm10.1 or cm11)
2. why the battery drains so fast? is that overclocked roms?
3. Do I have to download stock rom for my country? why is that matter? Im from israel and I think that in the stock rom there are apps of the Cellular operator (cellcom) and i hate that, i want clean stock android, I dont want these dirty apps and heavy widgets.
4. which rom is best for the battery performance?
thanks a lot!

I recently used:
Mokee OS 04/11 + KhaN Kernel 2.0 = 100% stable
Paranoid Android 4.3 BETA1 + KhaN Kernel = Just installed a day ago, but seems stable and the fastest KitKat rom yet.
Keep in mind to configure kernel settings for better performance and battery life and disable pocket detection / WLAN notification / auto sync / IMPORTANT: silly google background services using "disable service".
IMO i prefer CM 10.1 because its very fast, and stable, i think Kitkat is not ready yet !!
However im using a 2450 mah battery on CM 10.1 and geting good battery lifee, but if u use the stock batery with 1500 mah, CM 10.1 wont last much , so u need to go with stock or Kitkat
What's the point about KitKat is not ready yet? Performance is better than Jellybean as far as I tried nearly every rom available
