Hello guys!
I just received a LG Nitro HD P930 phone. Its ATT branded and running Official 4.0.4 ICS android.
Please help me just in few words:
1. How to root this phone? Name the pro
2. How to install CWM recovery?
3. How to install Cyanogen mod 10.1 (or the most stable custom MULTIlanguage rom)
I read a few threads about this, but they are old or not that described. I read the superoneclick can root the phone, and then just install CWM, put the CM 10 zip to SD card and flash it via recovery?
Is it that simple ? I'm not new to android, I rommed a lot on my Sam Galaxy S, just don't wana brick my new phone.
Just in few word, is it that simple really? you would same me a lot of time
Thank you.

I'm no expert, but I think if you have ATT ICS you can root, but you can't install CWM or custom ROMs because of the locked bootloader.
You need to use one of the unbrick guides to downgrade your phone to rooted GB, then you can flash custom ROMs like CM10.1.
I'll let someone else post the link to the best unbricking guide... I ended up starting with one and finishing with another because I got stuck halfway.

As for a ROM.... I am using miroslave__mm's ROM 4.2.2...... Its extremely stable... No reboots, BT works, the screen locks without an issue... The one thing I'm not happy with is that I can't OC my phone or control the voltage, which is a big thing for me to be able to do that..... I tried a couple different kernels and they either don't work, or BT won't work.. I need BT so I am stuck with this one for now.... If I could OC with the kernel that's supplied with this ROM , I would consider this ROM near perfect, for my use.
I use the same guide on windows 7 64 bit it work on the first try

Thank you very much guys, I'm gonna do the update today, and report back. I hope I'll succeed !
BTW I have win 7 64bit
Hello guys! I succeeded !! Everything went smooth following that guide. Only problem was that KDZ update since I have win 7. But fortunately I have a windows XP pc here, and I do that step there.
I installed miroslave__mm's ROM 4.2.2 recommended by trauma101, thank you very smooth rom, no problems at all yet.
Once again thank you for saving me time of reading hundreads of threads about update.
Have a nice day !
If you end up having issues with Wifi/LTE, then make sure you're using the proper baseband (the unbricking instructions as linked loads the P936 baseband), if you're not then I suggest you load the P930 v20c baseband available at this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842763

So since I am new to this forum I assume this is where I am able to post since I cannot post in the dec sesction. I am trying to root my lg nitro which i just got form at&t july 2012. It has 2.3.5 android on it and I have rooted my other phones np but this one is annoying. Ive tried all versions of super one click and unlock and doomlord as well.
I assume my nitro just cant be rooted at the moment? ive made sure debuggin is checked and have tried them using card mounted and unmounted. have factory reset and tried fresh still a no go. I noticed in doomlord that i get chmod read only and cannot write superuser.apk reado only as if my phone chmod is set to read only.
Just asking here if anyone knows for sure if my version of nitro can be rooted so i am not banging my head against the wall....though at&t tech upper lvl told me other day lg nitro gets ics at end of july for sure but ya know how that goes.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hi talrune,
Welcome to the community. Unfortunately, you are not the only one that has had problems rooting the 2.3.5 ROM. AT&T has done a good job at locking it down. Several people have just given up on it.
The best way to get root on your Nitro is to head over to the Development section and flash a pre-rooted ICS ROM. You might also try the method I have listed in my signature. I haven't tried it on 2.3.5 so I would be interested in knowing if it works with it or not.
root ur phone
Hi Guys,
I had the same issue.. tried several times.. with doomlords, tsparkys and superoneclick...
But after multiple retries. finally managed to root 2.3.5 using SuperOneCLick 2.3.2.. and it is fine now..
Never give up,, keep on trying.. ur phone rooting time wud be just round the corner.
Yes I did download honos which i assume it is the prerooted ics and i put it in root directory of my sd card but dont i need phone rooted to put a rom manager on there to then flash the prerooted ics rom?

You can follow the unbricking guide that will take you back to 2.3.4 which was extremely easy to root.

Yeah i would have used his but as i said I cannot get my phone to root with any of the methods listed even the ICS version I cant get it to root either. I guess ill have to find a stock 2.3.4 rom to flash to but i assumed ya would have to have root to downgrade to 2.3.4
End our misery
If you get it to work please let me know because im in the exact boat as you. Tried every method many times.
What would be nice to see is someone who has done it on the AT&T LG NITRO HD, upload a video or screenshot slide show of step by step install of ROM, since other instructions dont seem to work for everyone. If i get it to root il be sure to make a better step by step instruction video.
This is the Official ICS V20e from Bell
ClockWorkMod flashable
I did not remove or add anything this is really stock.
Enjoy!

It's rooted, though, right?
Thanks! Hoping to give it a try either tomorrow or Saturday.
Do you have to unbrick your phone in order for it to work? Like the other official ICS releases?
@RealyPssd,
If you have ever done the unbricking guide in the past, you're good to go, just flash via CWM.

yes for sure it is root
I haven't ever unbricked before.
Then yes, you will likely end up with a non-booting phone (but a still working CWM) if you flash this rom. I'm currently trying to figure out which partition the bootloader is on the Nitro HD so that we might just be able to give users like yourself a bootloader that will allow you to boot these ICS roms with CWM. Right now it appears the SU640 Gingerbread bootloader, which is flashed when you do the unbricking guide, is the best bet for this. It'd be nice if we could also get one of you guys to donate your stock Bell/AT&T bootloaders once we figure out which partition it's on.

The only issue with this is I'm not sure if it's safe to overwrite the bootloader using a method other than LG's tools. Or even if the phone will let you overwrite it using any other method.
That's very true, it's somewhat risky.
Flashing this on my phone right now = after selecting reboot in CWM the LG logo pops up briefly then I'm brought back to CWM automatically.
So if i flash with the LG tool it'll work fine? I'll just have to unbrick if i want to switch ROMS?
And if i unbrick now, this should work fine with CWM staying installed?
Just follow the 40 steps of the unbrick guide and all should be fine?
Which guide should I use?

Follow Malnilion's advice, unbrick first. I was in the same situation (logo-CWM sequence) until I unbricked.
Both guides work fine, only problem I had was rooting using ROOT.bat. Didn't work and
I don't know why. So i rooted using SuperOneClick 2.3.2 from Machzalet's guide.
After unbrick no problem flashing this ROM in CWM, everything wen smootly

No, you don't.
Well I unbricked and such don't think I'll be sticking with this ROM.
Is there any way to disable the search bar at the top using the stock launcher?
Thanks for the CWM version though HONO.
Going to give CM10 nightyls a shot.

I'm visiting Israel for a month and neither stock nor CM9 nor CM9 Full Throttle work here. The Nitro's frequencies are exactly the same as my GS2, but the GS2 works perfectly. There are several carrier networks here, each using a slightly different combination of frequencies, but the GS2 works with all of them and the Nitro with none of them. It works perfectly on AT&T in the US. It is SIM unlocked, of course.
Is this likely a problem with the modem? Will the ROM in this thread likely fix my issue because it's meant for Bell (presumably a non-American carrier)? Any other suggestions of what I can do to get the phone to work on a foreign (but frequency-compatible) carrier?
good job!!

The ROM that guide gets you on isn't meant to be ran permanently, at least I didn't think so but I also won't do stock. Just find the appropriate ROM after finishing the guide.

I'm sorry bro just call me stupid but it's ok to treat me as a newb cuz I am too this device but what part of that link involves me and rooting, like which parts should I follow to get me rooted plus installing CWM or some type of recovery and I did install ROM Manager already just want to know where to go to make it easy to do step by step?
Take this guide one step at a time. Read through it a few times, slowly, if need be. It's not a difficult one; just may look intimidating to some. A new guide came up, which u know about, that does the same thing but keeps the original build id. If u ask me, pick one and go. Don't over think it.

Installing ROM manager on stock ICS does nothing more than, well, installing ROM manager on stock ICS. You must have rooted Gingerbread to be able to flash a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP; which is required to enjoy any of the ROMs in the developer section here. And to downgrade stock ICS to Gingerbread, you must follow one of the unbrick guides. What particular section should you follow to get root + CWM? From the 1st word in the OP to the last period.
Like X0dus said, read through whichever guide you choose to use before you do anything; get familiar with the process and what you're going to be doing. Obviously, keep the directions open while performing the process, and don't skip around. Each step is essential and must be followed in order.

If all that is needed is root privileges then this may work; but if a custom recovery is the objective this will not work. And when it's all said and done, why not go ahead and do the unbrick process and install HO!NO!'s rooted CWM flashable ICS or Liquid Nitro if you want all or mostly stock... get rooted stock ICS and also the ability to try out all the other options available?
Any true root for our devices or any out that are 'proven' to work for ours and sorry if I have missed it, I know there are many or at least one that some have been helpful in pointing out as root guides but need some proof that the Canadian devices have root too please? I am on the latest 4.0.4 ICS and ready to perm-root/CWM or TWRP if thats what I use for recovery, please lead me/us in the right direction?:crying:
Thanks

If you are on stock ICS you have to go through the unbrick guide to be able to install CWM or TWRP. There are a couple here on the first page, they all essentially do the same thing with slightly different methods, and i would assume they take about a equal amount of time. Just make sure you download the required software and read through the instructions once at the very least before you attempt to begin the process.

Hi dudes,
I've got a used Nexus 7 (2013) on android 4.3.1 firmware but rooted ...
I'd like to go to the lastest firmware 4.4.2 I guess, so I wonder if I can do a upgrade using the wifi as an unrooted tab or not ?
My tab is rooted , is it a problem for upgrading ?
If so, I'd rather unroot it, I prefere tablet as brand new ...
is there a way to brick my tab using the official update (by wifi) ?
Thanks !
If you are not receiving the update, just unroot it, and return it to stock. You can use the Nexus Root Toolkit by Wugfresh. It's really simple to use, and the help section is really good. Goggle it.
Have you tried going into settings, and going into system updates? Just having the tablet rooted, should not prevent you from receiving updates. Now, if it's routed with a custom rom, that's a different story. Good luck
--=={BSnapp} ==--
hi, it is rooted with the official firmware 4.3.1 I Guess( is there a way to see if it's a custom or official firmware ?)
and I've got the notification of the 4.4.2 upgrade ...

band base version
DEB-G00_2.25.1_0802
kernel version

apparently, trying to do a recevory using the POWER and UP trick, it seemes the guy before me has installed clockworkmod recovery v6.0.4.4 so what should I do ?
You could flash a 4.4.2 ROM using Clockwork Mod recovery. NOTE: Please research and double check every step before flashing. The basics are: make sure that you have plenty of battery life; make a backup of your current ROM; do a factory reset in Clockwork Mod; select a 4.4.2 specific to your device, e.g., Paranoid Android for DEB; download a zip file of SuperSu 1.94; download Gapps; then flash the ROM, Gapps, & Supersu. Again: read, read, read through XDA before flashing anything. EDIT: Make sure that you have the most recent Clockwork Mod version for your device.
