Hello,
I'd like to know if it is possible to make a nandroid backup of my galaxy nexus directly on OSX because I don't have enough free memory available at the time on my phone.
Cheers
You could use adb backup and adb restore to achieve similar things as a nandroid. Searching around should allow you to find some documentation on how to use it.
I'll try that then.
thanks

Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone could advise me on the quickest/easiest way to restore my 200 or so backed-up apps from the sd-card after I reapply a stock RUU (which I'm doing so that I can install a recent OTA update)
A couple of things I've considered (with my extremely limited knowledge) in advance:
1.) Reinstalling Titanium Backup and trying to use this. Just not sure whether it can do this, ie: does it work from a log (which presumably would have been wiped after the RUU was applied), or does it simply point to a folder on the sd-card (in which case I imagine a fresh new installation of Titanium would be able to retrieve everything)
2.) Installing each and every one individually via the backed-up APK files on the sd-card. (Not my preference, for obvious reasons)
3. Rerooting the phone and then getting R/W access to /system/apps to just paste everything in there (also not my preference, as I am not confident in my knowledge or abilities of this stuff).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Titanium backup should work fine, if you've got 200+ apps though I would recommend getting the pro version since it is going to take you very long to restore them one at a time.
Wow, I'm surprised that the free version doesn't do a batch restore, as I was able to perform a batch backup of absolutely everything, and really easily.
Thanks for the heads-up and response, mate.
How do you backup the progress of games? Like Jelly Defense?
I want to root but you can't root unless you unlock your bootloader, which resets everything.
Is there a way to backup the progress of games and restore them?
Would making a copy of the internal SD card and then restoring it later work?

Not sure if it will work but this is probably your best bet.

I used titanium backup, the pro version allows drop box storage I believe

Titanium backup requires root.
Adb backup / adb restore maybe ? I havent tried it though
Personally, what I find is most reliable is forgetting to backup the progress and then getting really frustrated every time I have to start playing from the beginning all over again.
I have 100% success with this method.
root required
To backup anything in the /data/ folder (which is where app\game progress is stored), you need root access.
However I bet avesik is right; if you run adb backup, it will store your apps and settings in the cloud. Then when you unlock the bootloader and boot back up, running adb restore should pull those apps and settings back down. <pray>

If you don't have root right now, make an adb backup with -apk option, and better install first the apps from play store before actually restoring the adb backup, because if the app is not installed sometimes it's skipped. Restore the adb backup on a new device before deleting the old one and see if everything is there. If you don't have another device, try Nox App or Genymotion, which are android emulators for windows.
To know which games allow to backup and restore savegames on the cloud you need to check one by one. I always use Titanium backup by the way.

My boss has a Galaxy Nexus and he was wondering how he could easily make backups, to a Windows PC or internet. He was mostly worried about text messages but other stuff should be backed up too. Apparently the Google backup thing in the phone doesn't cover SMS. I guess an SMS backup tool could work.
Other than that, any ideas for a simple backup tool? As in no rooting, no toolkits that focus on features other than backup and restore and not adb on the command line? I noticed Holo Backup but it's in beta and apparently requires separate setup on a Windows PC (i.e. drivers + adb).
Personally I root and use Titanium and Nandroid and rsync but I don't think that's the right way to go for a busy manager.
Carbon
SMS backup +
Neither requires root and SMS backup + will backup SMS and MMS to your gmail account and label everything to keep it nice and neat.

there is another app called "g cloud backup" in the playstore that backs up everything to the cloud. only comes with 1gb of storage but worth a look.
I just installed ROM Manager on me Nexus 7 2013 last night after rooting with King root and things have been great. I even flashed Cwm recovery through it.
I backed up my existing ROM (which I think is a nandroid backup) and even though it gives me the address of where it is saved on rom manager, I don't see it. The address given is /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup but when I go there using root Explorer I dont see the backup folder.
I have tried searching using root Explorer and my computer but no luck. I can confirmed that the backup was indeed there by going into Cwm.
I'm trying to place the recovery on my computer or USB stick because it takes alot of memory.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Also do I need nandroid backups or is Titanium shell enough?
Thanks your assistance.
Hi, on my previous phones I used TWRP to create full backups of my phone. My A2 lite is rooted with Magisk and I decided to keep the stock recovery to simplify OTA updates (also there is no official TWRP build available supporting encryption). The phone is already setup completely and I don't want to start all over again so formatting is not an option. Still I want to be able to create a full backup in case something goes wrong or the phone gets damaged. Is there a way to do this or do I have to continue with SD and TB backups? Thanks in advance.
nice q >>>waiting for an answer ???
I used Titanium Backup before. But now I'm using Migrate for backups.
My backup is TB and rsync of /sdcard to a server at home (automated overnight).
I never bothered getting anything else setup. I try not to brick my devices
I did have to restore a few times when I first got the phone, until I figures out how to recover from Magisk/xposed errors without factory reset.
i prefer Titanium Backup method with batch file to backup folders i need from phone memory to PC. of course i backup Titanium Backup folder too,
minimal adb&fastboot package is installed (portable) so i can perform below backup:
backup.bat
these example lines inside
adb pull /storage/emulated/0/DCIM
adb pull /storage/emulated/0/Download
adb pull /storage/emulated/0/Pictures
...
