How do you backup the progress of games? Like Jelly Defense?
I want to root but you can't root unless you unlock your bootloader, which resets everything.
Is there a way to backup the progress of games and restore them?
Would making a copy of the internal SD card and then restoring it later work?

Titanium backup requires root.
Adb backup / adb restore maybe ? I havent tried it though
Personally, what I find is most reliable is forgetting to backup the progress and then getting really frustrated every time I have to start playing from the beginning all over again.
I have 100% success with this method.
root required
To backup anything in the /data/ folder (which is where app\game progress is stored), you need root access.
However I bet avesik is right; if you run adb backup, it will store your apps and settings in the cloud. Then when you unlock the bootloader and boot back up, running adb restore should pull those apps and settings back down. <pray>

If you don't have root right now, make an adb backup with -apk option, and better install first the apps from play store before actually restoring the adb backup, because if the app is not installed sometimes it's skipped. Restore the adb backup on a new device before deleting the old one and see if everything is there. If you don't have another device, try Nox App or Genymotion, which are android emulators for windows.
To know which games allow to backup and restore savegames on the cloud you need to check one by one. I always use Titanium backup by the way.

Using Titanium Backup:
1. Menu -> Batch -> Select RUN Backup all user apps + System data
2. The backup will be in the folder on ur SD card. Copy and save it in case u earse the entire SD card
Using Recovery:
To backup enitre ROM which ever you are currently using. Reboot into recovery..
Currently I use Clockword Mod, so I know how to do it only by this one
1. Reboot into recovery mode.
2.Under Backup & Restore do the nandroid Backup which backsup the currently using ROM with data.
3. This will also be under the folder ClockwordMod in ur SD card backit up in case u do SD card formatting
For SMS, Call Logs & Pictures I use McAfee Wavesecure which I bought long back and backsup all the data.. not sure about Titanium backup for SMS & stuff...
I think this might help you.
Excuse a newbie question, but doesn't the nandroid recovery just take a snapshot of the current setup with ROM and all?

You use the nandroid if the new rom doesnt work or you of some other reason want to go back to the old rom.

Don't backup System Data if you are changing from one ROM to another, you will invariably get problems backing up system files that won't work smoothly with the new ROM. Just backup user apps.

No, that's fine. You can back both up and just restore apps and app data with no problem. I've never backed up system data I really don't see the point, I guess you could backup and restore to the same ROM, but i'd rather just start afresh each time.

Being able to backup system data selectively isn't a bad idea, i.e. Wi-Fi access points and literally one or two other things, if someone is after a system backup this is where nandroid comes into play, in my opinion.
I do agree backup for user apps. Also I would prefer Nandroid to restore the old ROM fully. Since I have been using some CM7 RC builds & also nightly builds.. i started to restore system data as well, which literally helps me to have all settings as well.
Also he can run Restore apps with data alone...
But it is upto OP which method he prefers..

This is for sure, things like bookmarks, user dictionary, wifi are nice to be able to just restore.

Open the app and select Backup/Restore and long press on the system data you want to backup. You should exercise caution and not backup system data that will potentially disrupt another ROM. Wi-Fi Access Points, User Dictionary etc can all be found in there. Hope this helps.

Or the way I did it was just go under the backup/restore tab and scroll till you find what you want to backup ie. Bookmarks, wifi, etc then you are just backing up what you want and need

I have a question regarding Titanium that I hope you can help with...
I've just upgraded to the Gingerbread RUU, so I lost root and can't get it back, or frankly want to have it back, but I've backed up a number of apps with Titanium Backup, and is there any way to reinstall them?
They're all saved to my SD card, and Titanium Backup obviously refuses to work.
I can't and don't want to get root back, so is there any way to manually use these backups, or use them with another program?

You can recover the apps by searching the TitanuimBackup folder and extracting the APKs from the Zip files. It's obviously not possible to recover the data as it's zipped up in a tarball and it requires Superuser rights to access if using Titanium, however I don't know that it's not possible to manually replace the data. If you unzip the tarball and extract the folder to your desktop. If it's the BBC News app for example the folder should look like this after you extract it.

-----------------------------------/shared_prefs'
I don't know if you can access Data/Data from the phones internal memory without root, I am using Root Explorer. Try with Astro, I am guessing you can read/write to Data/Data without having S-Off as I am not getting prompted to switch to R/W to delete files (I have Root and S-Off).
If you can read and write to Data/Data without root and S-Off you can manually copy and paste the data over after installing the app, it will take ages to do if you've got any number of apps and I am not ever sure it will work, but I suppose it's worth a go.
I hope this makes sense, it makes semi sense to me as I read it back!

I'm thinking about the change the ROM. What is the best way to keep all my apps and files? Can I just backup with Titanium Backup and restore it? I'm not sure if the SD card will be restored too through a factory reset.
I use MyBackup Pro - Paid app but does all the work for you in theory. Backs up everything. Quite cheap for a backup app.
And what's with the SD card? If I'm not completely wrong, I think the SD card is going to be deleted...

Not unless you want it all to be deleted. When I flash a new ROM and wipe data, it doesn't delete the files on it, all my wallpapers are still in there and APK's I want to install.
I use titanium backup, a complete backup tool for root users which works really well

Titanium Backup all the way mate.
There is a special partition layout that prevents the SD card (/dev/media) from being wiped. The only exception is if you flash a stock Google ROM - that will wipe the SD card.

my backup root is the way to go saves all apks and data as well as photos, txts, call log, and most settings only have to redo a couple things whenever i flash
also think about using a custom launcher to preserve your homescreen setups, most people are loving NOVA launcher available here in the forums and it allows you to backup all your home screens so that after you push your new rom you wont have to re-set up your shortcuts.
I use both Clockwork and TiBu. I have never flashed a ROM that alsoformats my card, but I suppose its possible.
However, I have not always had good luck with TiBu restoring all icons and widgets. Apps and data always come across fine, except in cases of dramatically different ROM versions, like jumping from Gingerbread to ICS where data like contacts can fail to transfer. No big deal because I just re-sync with Outlook.

For those using MyBackupPro, anyone have issues when backing up just data?
When I select data and use the default directory, /mnt/sdcard, I get "Error during backup:unable to open database file." Using version 3.0.6. I usually just tell it to backup SMS,MMS,Call Log.

I think you can use ADB for BackUp your files, but i know only how to do this with System Apps and not Internal User Apps.

Install Adb,open command prompt with the folder which contains adb, use
"adb pull /system" to backup your internal memory.

Just use Titanium Backup to backup all the apps then transfer the Titanium Backup folder to your computer.
Ill try the adb one, never used adb before though, ill google the download for it
I always use titanium pro. It backups the apps AND their data.
Pulling the entire system folder and reinstalling manually later is a lot of hassle, and you might lose data/settings that titanium keeps.
Plus when you move to a new device, or if you have more than one, you can hotswap the SD card and transfer backups between devices.

I restored 48 apps in about 15 seconds. Don't know how long it would take to back them up, since I did them individually at different times.

It also depends on the app size and amount of data per app. Backing up is easy with Titanium Backup's batch function.

Its the first time that i've had a Samsung phone, coming from iPhone > HTC ONE X > SN2.
i havent put in a MicroSD card yet, as its on its way to me soon.
So i presume that all the app that i downloaded from play store is stored on the OS memory?
In this case how can i put my whatsapp backups to? so that it can detect it and restore accordingly?

Use titanium backup to backup the files. Install TB on your new device and backup one thing (a single one you want). This will create a titaniumbackup in your root of the sd card.
In your old device search for the same folder and copy all the files there. Paste the in the new folder created on ur n7100.
Now, if you launch TB you should see the backups there, simply restore first only app and after only data. Thats it.

Youre telling the Root way to the dude...he isnt rooted, or may not want to root.
@OP: you will have to put the backups to /sdcard/whatsapp/databases
And for sms backup and restore, there is an app SMS Backup and Restore from Market. You can use thay
My contact was on google accounts, so they came back with sync
For call logs, SMS and MMS, i use MyBackup PRO or Titanium Backup (very useful, but not a very friendly app and root needed)
For apps, i use again MyBackup PRO or Titanium Backup, but if the phone is not root, you can't restore apps setting along with the app. And even with root, some games setting can't be restored. It's the case with all my Gameloft Game, i restore game, setting and even the big game data folder, but when i start the game, it's an all new game that start
It's really a pity there is no standard backup and restore app in Android, and that you must root your phone to do such a useful task But yeah, Android is for geek

I can see my 156 apps in google playstore.... But reinstall them one by one would be very boring !

Just open Playstore in computer...sign into playstore and click my android apps in the upper right hand corner...there you will see which all apps were installed on your device...jst keep pressing install and things will be installed on to your phone...!!

I am in need of a similar solution, I just flashed and did a full wipe, but android/google play refuses to sync my apps like it did before.
Is there anyway to automate downloading and installing all the apps listed in "My Apps"? I do have root access.

How about downloading an macro recorder or similar program on PC and make it press install in every app you have in play store.
And to prevent this from happening again, use titanium backup. You can even transfer your titanium backups to pc in case of full wipe.
For future reference why not get a backup program like Mybackup Pro or Titanium Backup? Titanium offers scheduled backups and has a lot of other features like only keeping 3 backups, or 1 if you prefer.
To reinstall most apps the simplest way I find is to login to my Google account, turn WiFi on and after a few minutes it starts to restore them. Remember to check the box that asks if you want it to keep your device backed up.
If neither of these are what you want then I don't know what you can do. I normally backup a ROM and the apps separately so I can always recover if an update to a ROM requires a full wipe.

The formatting of the SD card means that everything will get deleted but i guess the important folders are made by system again which are required for the system to run...!!

Formatting sdcard alone will not format system and user data (unless for some apps on asec).
Format system and wipe data thru CWM will delete them

I had and loved to use titanium BUT
When my all phone was erased by updating firmware, titanium has also gone !. So titanium isn't the solution in my case .

Nah it wont brick..unless you totally wipe it through CWM and then no rom is loaded onto it, it would not start but thats not bricking it..!!
If you just normally format your SD card it means only your music n things like that will be deleted..no chance of bricking i guess..!!
