Xperia ion in call volume (yes again) - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Rooting, booting, writing code, and participation in all manner of software hacking is so common place on this colorful forum,
yet no-one can simply answer how to boost earpiece in call volume ??

No real answers in these threads, or countless google searches.

That program has one really useful function which automatically turns the external speaker on when moving the phone away from your ear, but saddly it doesn't actually increase volume levels.

Really! but in my Xperia S, when i used it, it actually increases the headphone/earphone volume quite a bit.

I'm using an ion. Good phone, except for the low earpiece volume. The external speaker is loud enough.

This review complains about in call volume levels, so I know it's not just me.
(1:25 into video)
Other than that, and hard to use hardware capacitive buttons, this is a good phone.
There's got to be some kind of a fix for this volume problem. (or maybe there isn't ?)
Somebody please help.

Why you refreshed this thread? Nobody knows solution. You can't increase earphone volume. I think this thread should be closed.

Your statement that in call volume can't be increased, is useful information to me, and as such justifies this thread being open.
Your the first to suggest that there isn't a solution.
(but I still think there has to be some kind of a fix)

I'm in agreement with this reviewer:
http://allthingsd.com/20120628/sony-xperia-ion-entertainment-filled-but-running-on-empty/
"I’ve been testing the Android smartphone for the past two weeks, and it offers some great features, such as a rich multimedia experience and zippy data speeds. The affordable price is also a plus, but it comes with some tradeoffs, including an older version of the Android operating system. But the smartphone has bigger issues — namely, poor battery life and low call volume — so it’s hard to recommend the Xperia Ion, even as a budget pick."

Am I gonna have to run out and buy the new S4 or HTC One ?
There has got to be a software fix for this problem. When people talk really loud I can hear well enough thru the internal speaker, so I know the phone amp and earpiece speaker are capable of good levels.

[Q] looking for quality wired headset with inline mic

Like the title says, I'm using this one right now:
http://www.amazon.com/Body-Glove-Pr..._1_5?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1327906766&sr=1-5
Everything works as it should, but the sound quality when listing to music sounds like a cheap 1.99 pair of headphones. I am an audiophile when it comes to sound quality especially with headphones, this particular pair is unbearable.
Can anyone recommend a pair for under $50 that has quality sound? I really like the convenience of the inline mic and the call button. It works well with Vlingo too.
I too would like confirmation on which headsets work for our phones. My previous phone (Epic 4G) would not work with several different headphones with mic. More specifically the buttons did not behave as you would want them to. For example: music controls, volume controls, voice control, etc. I have tried Bose headphones(AE2i and Quietcomfort 3) and earphones(MIE2i), Klipsch S4i, and several skullcandies. None of the inline buttons worked for the Epic 4G and I'm afraid these iDevice headphones will not work for my E4GT as well.
Instead of making a new thread, let me just ask here:
Is there anyway to hack/mod or phones to recognize the inline buttons? I'm not familiar with how an iDevice interprets these commands, so it may be completely out of the question, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Those do look nice though. The thing is, like the Body Glove ones they use words like "premium" and "high quality" and a big WTF/Facepalm when you actually get to use them. I don't want to get suckered again so I want to get some recommended ones.
Ya know, maybe of I could just find the cord with a mic and button with the 3.5mm jack I can put my own headphones on that would be a great option too, I'd need a confirmation that it works with our phones though.

Opinions before I break some plastic in my Galaxy Nexus (Speaker Mod)

I still like my Galaxy Nexus even with the newer handsets (Galaxy S III, HTC ONE X, Sony Xperia Ion..etc) out in the wild now.
Pure ICS, customizability options with the virtual navigation buttons (custom ROMs), likely to have the JellyBean OS update before others.. many things makes it a keeper y'know.
The external speaker, however, is something I still can't get used to in my GNEX. Too weak! If i'm not mistaken, it got a little better since the 4.0.x updates (can anyone confirm?) but still it's way in the quiet side.
For a while, I've been thinking if breaking the plastic of the speaker grill can actually make it louder. Wanted your opinions or experiences of something similar with other phones before I maybe decide on doing it. Thank you

franco's kernel updater app also has a sound increase function.
since installing aokp, the speaker has been louder too.
Put a finger in the middle of a PC speaker. Notice any difference? Of course not. That's not the reason why the speak isn't louder.

Franco Kernel is pretty much all he needs. I have zero issues with the speaker now.
I see what you're saying there guys about DSP and Vol+. I was thinking if such mod can make a better "headroom" and not just a volume increase.
I purchased the Vol+ app in the past. I just re-downloaded it to try more settings, I don't know if it's the app updates or the new tweaks I just worked on but I'm liking the results. Thank you
I've noticed a bit of a volume boost since going to 4.0.4 but I still prefer using Volume+ which gives it even more of an increase.

ANY way to set a volume limit? (JB)

My ear is still ringing... I'm honestly surprised that volume limits aren't baked right into every android ROM.
Please, please, please help me find a way to prevent anything from potentially damaging my ear drum while I have my earphones in.
Yeah... I've got a headache now. No fun. No fun at all.
Any and all tips are helpful, I guess...

Thanks asshole. I also would love the ability to change the top end volume. I use IEM a lot and having the volume at 1 is already a comfortable volume and by notch 4 or 5 it's already too loud. I would like to be able to set the mid volume level as my max and have more leeway in the middle for fine tuning. Any apps that can do this yet?
With that kind of attitude no one's going to help you. So how about you get some manners and come back? Thank you.

I did find a solution that works, the app is "Fine Volume Control V2 (Trial)" - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=opotech.finevolumev2 It's a trial so you can see if it fixes your problem but it lets you set the volume much lower than android normally allows so it works well with very sensitive earbuds/IEM's.
Thread cleaned, edited and closed
Profanity and disrespect will be dealt with harshly as there is NO reason for it on a developers site.

[Q] Xperia S (ICS) - poor audio quality compared to Omnia W

Hi folks,
I just got a new Xperia S, having already a Omnia W. I wanted to get a good music phone and considering gsmarena showing a better rating for Xperia S than Omnia W, I got this one. I am using Phone's speaker, not headphone for playing few songs. However my Xperia S does not sound great and cannot be compared to OMNIA W at all. I played the songs simultaneously and certainly Xperia S is no match. The Xperia S seems a little jarring and as a result the vocals aren't as crisp and clear as Omnia W. It isn't too bad, just that I find it hard after having a omnia w. I have turned on XLoud on and off, no difference.
My Question: Anyone else observed audio issues with Xperia S? I have already seen few folks complaining about ICS, but it does looks like an inherent issue rather than a software. Or is gsmarena wrong to give a high rating for Xperia S? Any thoughts?
If you remove the backplate, the audio will get MUCH better. It is awful, though... low-end phones like the Galaxy Ace have better speaker sound than the XS.
they use proper tests
ur better of trusting them than youre own hearing
i say get a doc involved
The Xperia X10 Mini and X8 had awesome speakers and I think thats what your looking for
But...you are referring to music and when they do those tests they are not done through the Phones speakers but through headphones
Thats where the confusion is, slap in some decent earphones and you'll see the difference compared to your Omnia W

The stock codecs are also a factor. Try Nuetron MP. The UI takes a bit of getting used to but I always end up going back to it for external playback qualities. Nuetron relies on its own software instead of the stock Android build. It makes a difference to not only my seasoned ears but to the average listener as well.

I only want to ask some suggestion from the community about this..
i owned a Sony Ericsson W580i and i'm thinking to transplant it's speaker to Xperia ZL (before this, i already succeed to transplant this speaker on my Allwinner A13 tab and now i want to take the speaker back and place it on Xperia ZL). The speaker better than stock Xperia ZL speaker i think so.
