Here is the mod for stock MA7. This is not a flashable zip, you will have to extract it and add it to a rom, or replace it in system/framework.

It should work fine, but it is based on MA7 stock w/ the multiple reboot options only(from my own rom), so if it doesn't work.....don't blame me.

To use this with a rooted stock ROM, would I have to create an odex file from this file? If so, anyone have one handy?

No, its a jar....there is no odex

There is no odex or no odex is required? My stock ROM has an odex of the jar. Thought it would be necessary. Or, maybe my impression of odex files is wrong. I thought odex files are created from the jars.

<sigh> I thought odex was for apk's. I renamed the odex and restarted, but now my phone is stuck on the Samsung logo.
I renamed the original jar, installed the new jar, set permissions to 644 and renamed the odex.
How can I name the file back to what it was? Possible from standard recovery?

push the original files back into the proper location from the boot loader through adb.

Applied to my phone on Synergy r50 i'll try to remember to report back i'm mostly interested in battery life.
EDIT: So far I'm going to probably have to switch back. The wakelock works flawless and the phone seems to turn on faster as well as overall seems a little more responsive (probably just a placebo effect) but my battery is down to 79% with 23 minutes of screen-on time for the day.

By boot loader, do you mean the screen with the word "ODIN MODE" at top and it says "Downloading..." in middle of screen? I get no devices when I issue adb devices.
In the recovery menu, I get feedback on adb devices. From main menu, it says device ID and "inactive." If I select to update via adb, it says ID and "sideload."
UPDATE: Never mind. Not sure what the deal was, old sdk tools or something, but I tried recovery again and "adb devices" properly showed the device as "recovery" rather than "inactive." I am up and running again. Whew!
So as I see it, this mod won't work with odex ROMs. Right?

There is always a Odex

[MOD]CRT animation + Overscroll glow for stock deodexed XWJVH+XXJVO+XXJVP

I figured I should post this as I think there probably are others who don't want a custom ROM or a whole theme but still want the CRT screen off animation and the Overscroll Glow effect on their Gingerbread.
Here's a preview of the Overscroll Glow effect color:

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
Installation:
Flash zip from recovery.
If you don't like the color, the easiest way to change it is to use UOT Kitchen. Select "Glowing" -> "OverScroll Glowing" -> the color you want. Under "File upload", upload the framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk from the zip.
When it's done cooking, you can either flash the zip it gives you on top of my zip or extract the framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk from it and replace it in mine.
Thanks to dhiru162 for Overscroll Glow sources and _JKay_ for the CRT screen off zip.
This is only for DEODEXED JVH, JVO and JVP. (Check [Ramad]:s thread for a stock deodexed ROM).

This won't work on odexed roms and you'll probably get either bootloops or frameworks crashes if you try flashing it.
can anyone tell me how to use these on stock JVH rom then?
This is exactly what I needed.
crt +glow effect only.
I just flashed to JVH yesterday (stock) so I guess mine is odexed.
please advise

Download the deodexed stock ROM from here and flash it. After that, flash a kernel that has CWM recovery (not sure if ROM Manager works) and install the zip the from the recovery. If you don't want to flash a kernel you can also extract the files from the zip and manually copy them to the correct folders with Root Explorer.

Hi,
thank you so much for the direction.
Can I ask you if there's any downside using deodexed stock roms?
any security issues or stuff like that?
it's just that I've never used deodexed rom before and want to make sure it's safe
Thanks heaps

The only downside is that a deodexed rom is slightly slower than an odexed one but the difference is pretty minimal.

As I wrote in the message, this works ONLY with DEODEXED roms. If you have the official stock rom installed, you have an odexed rom.
sorry,,, what does that mean by "odexed rom"?

Here is a good explanation of the terminology. You can find a link to the thread with deodexed stock roms in the main post.
i kinda know whats the diff between odex n deodex,,, but i still dun get the meaning that i have an odexed rom,,, i m sorry cos i m a new "flasher" which had been using stock rom from Samsung HK for a year,,, so i dun really know the "rom thing"

If you know the difference between odex and deodex then you shouldn't have a problem understanding what an odexed rom is.
But basicly all official stock roms are odexed, meaning that you have .odex files in your system application folders.

[APP] Dark themed MMS 4.0.4

Please be nice, this is my first APK.
Big thanks to the other developers who I have learned from to make this APK.....
This is a Dark themed Stock MMS application.
Just download the apk in to your sdcard and then with a root file explorer, copy and paste in the system/app directory
4.0.4 has been out for a few weeks, and no one updated their version to work on it, so I took 4.0.4 stock apk and made the needed changes.
If you use it please click thanks!

just a heads up. your mms.apk seems a little light at about 400KB. MMS.apk are usually ~700KB. I did try using your mms.apk just to try, but it doesn't load, even after a reboot following replacement it in the system/app folder. you might have recompiled it incorrectly. gl.

This appears to be for odex'd (ie stock) roms. There's no classes.dex in the apk, which is probably why it's smaller than deodex'd Mms.apk's.
Thanks OP.
all .apks that have been modded and recompiled will be smaller in size. this is normal.

Download your full rom to your computer, extract mms.apk from /system/app and push it to your phone from adb. All better.
Is there any way to get the Icon to be normal size? on my stock-rooted GNex its about 25% smaller than the original apk. Is there a way I can edit that myself?
EDIT: I found an earlier dark-themed MMS apk and just ported the icons over.

EDIT: For future reference, you don't need to recompile it. just change it from a .apk to a .zip and open it like normal. then put that picture in where the xdpi icon folder is. A .apk is basically a fancy zip file.

[MOD][Battery][8/7] - Percent Battery Mod - JRO03D BASE

Ok, someone requested this so I figured I would knock it out real quick for every to have.
Its basic percent battery mod by 1% increments with stock charging animation.
Thge image size is about 2px bigger than the stock ROM but if its gets any smaller you cant read it, lol.
This is for De-Odex ROMS. It can be flashed to Odex ROM but you must delete SystemUI.odex first.
THIS IS BASED on JRO03D and flashing on any other ROM is at your own risk!

They can but you have to change a few files to make it work. A custom kernel that supports it is recommended. However if ur on a stock kernel,
Go to /system/bin/ and find the file called "samsungani" and delete it. Then find the file called "bootanimation", and rename it to samsungani. Place the downloaded bootanimation.zip in /system/media/

needs to be a stock DeOdexed Rom.

oh that sucks. will have to convince my wife to try a custom rom at some point.
josh, any plans to put out a custom kernel with freeza's fix integrated?
No. I'm not a kernel dev.
In fact I have found the most stable kernel with best battery to be the stock LG8 kernel. U lose custom boot animation, but its such better battery.

HTC one lockscreen

Two days with this phone and I'm pretty happy with it, I like the new sense for the most part but one thing I don't like is the horrible lockscreen ..
I know I can use a lockscreen app but idk

if you go into settings / personalize / lockscreen you will find different choices .
Yea I tried them all, none make the locksreen better imo, I don't like the clock there at the bottom like that

There is the option for no lockscreen at all, which is what I chose. I don't like the default one either.
I'm not too much a fan of the lockscreen either. Right now I'm using default ics theme on widgetlocker and using clokr for the clock. Looks and feels much nicer.

If you have root, you can get the AOSP lockscreen by renaming all of the Idlescreen_*.apk files to Idlescreen_*.apk.bak or to anything else that does not end in apk

Would these hold on reboots? I thought \system\app wouldn't hold on reboot due to write protection.
Lastly, if they do hold on reboot would I be able to return to stock by changing it back to .apk?

Those are great questions that hopefully CNexus can answer for you because I haven't a clue. In fact, I've been waiting to hear back on your experience before trying it myself. =)
It seems to me that it should work as expected if the files were renamed but I'm not sure about the write protection though.
Flash aroma file manager in recovery and rename from there. If you do it while the system is booted it will not hold since there is no kernel source to disable system write protection at the moment

I just tried this, but it does not show /app under /system. Only /bin. Any idea why?
Just saw this in the Q/A forum. Props to XPEric who stumbled upon it.
Without root you can get the ASOP lockscreen.
1. Go to system/apps
2. Copy HTCLockscreen.apk
3. Paste in /sdcard
4. Try to install (it will fail)
5. Reboot and you will have the ASOP lockscreen
I have no idea why this works but it does.

Yeah, the problem is there doesn't seem to be a way to reverse it if you were to change your mind (except with a backup of course). The solution here (if rooted) would allow me to rename the files to get the HTC Lockscreen back if I changed my mind.

I just tried this and my phone locked up right before the initial splash screen ended.

Were you able to get it to work by renaming the 7 idlescreen APK files to .bak? I made sure I got all 7, but it never booted into the phone. I had to change them back for it to boot.
