Am thinking of purchasing this phone. Held a dummy unit at the phone shop in my hand and liked it alot. I do have an S2 but never use it as I need a smaller phone. This looks to be ok with me.
However, what is the official Android version for this unit? And is it country specific, or all countries are pretty much on the same version?

I believe it's region dependent since I think Samsung didn't roll out the new version for all carriers and regions yet.
But as ipromeh said, latest versions for SGW are indeed 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 with very little hopes for Android 4.x.
But hopefully for us, there was someone kind enough (arco68 and the CM team) to release a few great versions of Android 4.0.4 - ICS (CM9) and 4.1.2 - JB (CM10). All the respect in the world for this people.

There is only 2.3.6 latest android for W. Today I finished my new rom with 4.2.2...
Oh wow ok. I'm so new to Android that trying to understand all the custom ROM stuff is doing my head in. How do folks decide on a custom rom? then even more confusing kernels, recovery and all that. I need a real noob guide to understanding custom roms.
Now the only other question I have is whether one can flash the I8150 roms onto a I8150T unit. I suspect probably not as the modem is likely to be 850/2100 and I need 900/2100.
Is the hardware actually different, or is it just that the modem firmwares are different?
Here are the update for Wonder:
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I8150
I hav this problem as well I wanna install cm9 on my i8150t but the modem are different
Can't we just put the modem "driver" into the rom nd I believe that everything else is the same
An official from samsung just for Android 2.3.6 with codename Gingerbread.
But with much developer around the world now you can use android 4.2.2, but still it isn't an official ROM.
what's the benefit on official than un-official??
it's not that much, so i will always use arco ROM than google.

Custom ROMs such as Cyanogen does not include radio (modem). Only the OS itself. Radio images are provided by the manufacturers like Samsung. Some have extracted it and made zip flashables. You can find it in the threads if you want. Flashing CM ROM will not touch your radio.

I know it's a few days after the last reply, but I'm going to assume that the OP still needs advice....
So here is my (in a nutshell) noob guide to firmware and roms.....
Your "official firmware" is what you will have installed on your phone when you switch it on for the first time.
A custom rom is an unofficial version of that firmware that has had all of the "bloatware" removed.
Bloatware is/are apps that the manufacturer and network carrier have installed on your phone at the time of manufacture. These apps usually serve absolutely no purpose other than to use up the phones processing power.
The most well known supplier of custom roms is CyanogenMod (commonly referred to as CM) They have produced their equivalents of most of the more recent android OS versions......
Gingerbread 2.3.5 - 6....CM7
Icecream Sandwich 4.0.3 - 4...CM9
Jellybean 4.1.2....CM10/CM10.1
These CM roms are unofficial because they will never receive endorsement from either Samsung or Google. But just because this is the case, it does NOT mean that they are in any way inferior to the official....in fact, the opposite applies.....one of the reasons that Samsung refuses to upgrade the W beyond GB, is that they say the W is incapable of successfully running ICS or JB....I guess Arco68 proved them wrong....lol
Arco68 has had to make these versions of ICS and JB far leaner and way more efficient than their "stock" equivalents in order to get them to run on the W....this in my book makes them superior to their official counterparts......

Hello there peeps, I'm an X Note I user, really enjoyed the experience until my phone got broke heh! And then I bought an S3, my current phone. Im currently running CM10 on my S3, runs good, but because of the close sourcing of the Exynos processor, its still not THAT smooth as it should be. But my taste always is a bigger screen, so I want to get back a Note II. I highly DOUBT that Im ever gonna use Touchwiz....
So the question is, will the Note II get a hands on from Teamhacksung? And we'll get an official support from CM10?
Besides, Samsung has finally decided to give devs some documentation of its Exynos4 source !
Replies would be appreciated as I'm considering to buy the Note in few days, still not so sure! Hope you can help
The current CM team isn't touching any future exynos devices besides the S3 and the Tab if im correct. But if someone new want to come in and start developing for the Note 2 than it would be possible, which we already have a few members here working on CM10 for the note 2 and made some progress. CM10 in the works
Don't expect any official support for CM tho on the Note2..
Running a AOSP build just goes against everything the Note 2 was meant for

Then why did we have a CM10 support for the Note 1 ? Same idea, the whole idea about the Note was with the pen. And yet, the Note I got an official CM10. I dont care about the pen features, Im after a gorgeous 5.5 inch screen actually...and run AOSP rom on it. I can't bare touchwiz.

because it uses a older processor than the new Note 2 and GS3 (Exynos 4210) we use Exynos 4412, the GS2 even have problems with CM and other aosp roms. (Didn't some of your roms the menu button didnt work?)
Also the US version of the Note 1 came with a snapdragon processor..
Samsung just don't want to release the right docs for the Exynos line. you can build a AOSP rom for the note 2 it just would be a a$$ to get everything fully working with out the sources you need.
Reb0rn and simone are both working on an unofficial CM10 for the note 2, and I believe Entropy said if they get it working and all their gerrit **** is OK there's no reason for it not to be made official with them as the maintainers.
I may be wrong about that last bit though, it's best to just go read that thread.
I believe cm10 is a downgrade from the stock software. Multitasking for example separates this phone from the rest. Never thought that I'll say a phone out of the box better suits my needs than cm10, aokp, or paranoid. Sorry

hey i have been having some wifi problems with CM 10.1.2 Aka Android 4.2.2 Jelly BEAN. anywz i have decided to go back to STOCK CUSTOM TOUCHWIZ 4.1.2 and it has been smooth, stable no problems but i like CM on 4.2.2, since Samsung is realising 4.3 for Galaxy S3 next month and 4.4 is already here but 4.2.2 is the most stable and since Sammy will not give out 4.2.2 for Galaxy S3 i had to try with CYANOGENMOD, AOKP, PARANOID, CARBON ROMS to get the feel of 4.2.2 on my S3 which i will never for touchwiz (FU SAMMY, SO MAD THAT I WANNA GO AND PUNTCH SOME SAMSUNG OFFICIALS)
the point is, idont wanna lose TOUCHWIZ and latest stable 4.2.2 with CM so how i can dual boot this two roms, i have read and searched and the only thing that came up was for the old HTC phones like Desires HD, S, Z, EVOS, INCREDIBLES, INSPIRE, MYtouch, Nexus One, Sensation, Thunderbolt and HTC'S stuck on 2.3, or ice cream sandwich, the International Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 right here on XDA, the international Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100, I9100G, the SGS 2 EPIC 4G sprint variant if am correct and some Moto droids plus
wats the big difference or hype that the international can dual boot or can do better than the American Variants???????????????????
anyone finds how to dual boot on the Galaxy S3 I747 PLEASE REPLY ASAP, am sure there's some file, answer or something hidden on this XDA forums that can help me, its just too hard to dig up hundreds of pages just to find a software or programme or app that can do this
any suggestion, idea, solution or ANYTHING is allowed i just need to dual boot, i cant KEEP BACKING UP, RESTORING ROMS WHILE IT TAKES TOO MUCH TIME AND SPACE, MONEY, ITS TOO STRESSFUL, Sometimes it might or might not work cuz of a MD5 file mismatch which makes me wanna hate android more
so help anyway if you can, reply, we can solve it who knows
THIS IS SAMSUNG FAULT THAT AM STUCK ON 4.1.2 ON TOUCHWIZ cuz i cant upgrade and have to USE CM 10.1.2 TO USE 4.2.2 and guess what 4.3 is out and 4.4 will be out sooner than later so arghhhhhhhhhhh it makes wanna get an IPHONE 5 and use their IOS 7 which almost looks identical to gingerbread-ICS-windows PHONE FEEL and its apple its smooth like a baby butt and simple enough 50-60 year old gramma to use it
get yur $h!t TOGETHER Samsung the S3 is just a year old, update it or am done, NEXUS 5, S5, NOTE 3, ONE or even the LUMIA 1020 with the odd couple at the back 42 megs
sorry for the rant but i need to dual boot customs roms
Need Rom Touch Wiz based Kitkat or 4.3 :/
Possible?
Not possible... if you can't live without dual SIM and still want the Kitkat goodies, you can always download Google's apps on Play Store and apply some cosmetic mods to make your stock ROM feels a lot like Kitkat.

Its possible actually..but no devs today i think will take interest to develop/port the whole OEM...it will not just be buggy..but also alot of time consuming..as all it needed is a base rom and port rom of same android versions (we got 4.4.2 cm11 as base already),there is a mere possibility to do this..
But i dont think anyone will do that mahn..

Dude he was talking about "Touchwiz-based" Kitkat. Basically a CM11 on stock ROM. This is like wearing shoes on your head. Not possible.
But what you're talking about is "Kitkat-based" Touchwiz, which is possible but not feasible due to massive amount of work needed to convert the whole Touchwiz framework to Android 4.4 API...
Even Samsung itself (which is a giant company with hundreds if not thousands of coders) still need 3 months to port Note 3 Touchwiz to Kitkat... with our manpower here (about 4 active developers) this will take forever..

WTF.!
Old story. We know that already.
What else would you have expected from sony. At the time of release it had one year old cpu and gpu and 2 year old android version. It's rivals the galaxy s3 is receiving 4.3 and the one x has 4.2.2 and the reason this has 4.1.2 is because they purposely put the old cpu and gpu so that they can release the xperia t which also could have had s4 pro and adreno 320. But they purposely used old hardware again so that they can make more money by releasing the flagships every 6 months and guess what. The xperia z still had outdated hardware for its time.

Hi,
I Am wondering about Xperia ion Update? Specially LT28H(HSPA version), I live in the Philippines, My Wife's Ion is stuck at Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 build 6.1.E.3.7, is this the last update for LT28H? and Ion LTE version have Android 4.1.2 update available?
everytime i connect it with PCC or SUS, it says that "You have the Latest Software" , but if I look at Sony Webpage, Android 4.1.2 should be available for Xperia Ion
File System Version: WORLD_6.1.E.3.7
Phone Software Version: Generic - user
is anyone also having a problem updating their Xperia Ion to Android 4.1.2?
So unfair they will do this and not release a final update that unlocks the bootloaders. I'd expect these tactics from Apple, but very disappointing from Sony - giving users the choice to either stay stuck on archaic versions of Android, or go out and buy a new phone

I find this pretty sad as Sony phones are my favourite ? I know that a lot of them on stock firmware have a lot of bugs, and are sometimes fixed but then lead to more which they are then forgotten about as Sony focus on new devices and what not, this frustrates me as the Xperia S on JB 4.1.2 stock still has a few bugs. I understand the phone is old but we pay money for the device and like most things you buy you are often provided support of some sort. I hope my next Sony phone isnt like this, if it is then I guess I will resort to a 90's phone lol.

C'mon guys, stop blaming Sony for this. Look at it this way: Galaxy Nexus inspite of being supported directly by Google saw only 2 versions of Android (ICS + JB ) while we saw 3 (GB + ICS + JB ). Plus Qualcomm never supported our chipset beyond 4.1 so Sony cannot do anything. AND the last firmware we got was stable and bug free.
So if you want latest Sony goodies, flash eXistenZ and if you want the latest Android, there are a lot of options for that too.
To put it in a nutshell, stop pretending as if Sony cheated us. We did get support for 18 months as promised. And use XDA to get the most out of your device.
Peace

Not to argue with you about the support Sony has given us, but I don't think the comparison with the Galaxy Nexus is a good one. You say that phone got 2 Android versions, but 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 aren't really the same are they . That makes 4, not 2, which is more than u, but we got a much more classy phone .

I dont know how requested it would be, or even possible it would be.
But ive been thinking... i am using the samsung captivate glide, on touchwiz....... my freind has the samsung galaxy S4 mini, on a newer version of android on touchwiz..... the screens are about the same size
I was curious at how possible it would be to kind of mesh the 2 and create a touchwiz based rom for us captivate glide users, based on the 4.2.2 (or maybe even newer than that i just read that thats what they come shipped with) that the S4 mini comes with, but the touchwiz version?
(i know there are touchwiz themes, but those dont change the notification drawer, which i HATE the look of on stock android... plus the separate home and lockscreen wallpapers, the sounds.... i love all the touchwiz based features).
i dont really *need* a new version of android.... i was just wondering, for in the future, if that would be possible at all. hmm....

ok, your mean is you want port android from other device for us?
this is not posible from S4mini. becous our chipset of phone is Tergra2. and changing binary to binary is very deficult
It is hard to port manufacturer skinned ROMs, let alone porting when you don't have official 4.2 as a base.
Just let the Glide rest in peace, Tegra 2 can't handle much more.
