[Q] AOSP GPS lock on LTE - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

First, thanks to everyone who has made tolte based AOSP roms so amazing. I have been using them as a daily drivers since 4.1.1 and have seen how quickly they have stabilized. Nice work! I have one remaining issue that someone can hopefully help me out with.
I cannot get a gps lock when connected to LTE. As soon as I enter LTE coverage it loses the lock and searches until I re-enter 3G.
I have tried several AOSP ROM variations (clean flashes), different modems (currently on MA7) and different Network modes with no luck. I currently work around this issue when I need a GPS lock by Setting the Network mode to CDMA / Evdo, and Airplane Mode On/Off, forcing me to stay in 3G/1X. Sprint is finally rolling more 4G out here in Baltimore and would like to take advantage of it.
Any suggestions? Anyone else having/not having this issue? I have captured logcats both entering and leaving LTE. The results are way over my head, but can PM them if they might help.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

I know all about the 4g growing in Baltimore. Unfortunately, I am kind of fond of the tw based roms and can't answer the question in full for you...
However, no gps fix on lte.... hmm... I'm going to have to think on that one...
You had pretty much answered everything I would have asked, and I know this might sound like a pain but does it work ok on a tw based Rom?

TirithXiato, thanks for the reply.
I haven't tried Twiz in awhile, mainly because i like PA and Xposed per app dpi. It used to work on mine and still works on my wife's stock note 2.
I have looked all over for someone having the same problem and at known issue logs... but nothing.
I'll try Twiz again and see if it's something with the phone.
Meanwhile is this working for anyone?

As I said, I'm in the Baltimore area and haven't had a problem. I am on stock ma7 deodexed though... I like the stock s pen apps and xposed works lovely for me...
I'd give it a try, if it still fails on a tw Rom, I'd say it's probably something hardware related

Did anyone solve this problem?? I am having the same issue here.
Gps doesn't get lock on lte. It gets locked just fine on 3g tho.
I'm using Minitab rom.

Tried this lil trick yet? Worked for me when I couldn't get a GPS lock at all, although in my area its all LTE, so hopefully it'll work if you haven't gone this route already.
1. Nandroid your rom.
2. Download a TW ROM, I used Lab Rats.
3. Flash the TW ROM, get a lock (and stay where ever it is you got the lock)
4. Restore your aosp ROM
5. Profit
If it doesn't work you may just need to do all the afore mentioned steps up to step 3, but then reflashing your aosp ROM. I know, I know, a pain in the @$$, but if you want your GPS working properly then you might wanna give it a go. And hey, if it doesn't work you have you Nandroid. Hope this helps.

I know this is an old thread, but maybe this will help someone in the future if they Google search (that's how I found this while looking for a solution). This advice worked for me:
Use root browser to edit the last line in
/etc/gps.conf
The last line will be
LPP_PROFILE=0
Change the 0 to 3. Save and exit.

^thanks. Helped me!

[Q] Universe S4 Rom IPService has stopped

Okay so i flashed the ROM and no other bugs other than the fact that where I live I get such crappy signal that i depend on wifi calling so turning that off is NOT an option. I keep getting the IPService has stopped running any other suggestions to make it stop/fix?? Keeps going even after fix permissions and turn wifi off and back on.... I would post under the ROM but apparently I havent asked enough questions to get to do that.. Sorry for understanding instructions ....
OMG
Okay so either no one has an answer or they think that I am an idiot. the obvious answer for me is to go back to my prior ROM of choice but I like this ROM and would like to give it a fair shake but I do need my wifi calling intact. In my home (the apparent second circle of hell) I get crappy Tmo reception so I depend on wifi to push my calls through. I tried flashing another kernel but the wifi calling is not kernel dependent. Is there something that is being worked on????? Or shoudl i just give up and go back to my old rom?
I don't think anyone thinks you're stupid. I can tell you that I've never seen this error before. Have other people reported this issue?
I dont have wifi to test but you could download the modified mms.apk and see if that helps you. Let me know if the problem still there after that
i just flshed today.. and i get this all day long.. while on facebook... and just having my phone on.. i dont think its an app it might be bad coding?

the message is only when wifi calling is checked regular wifi works fine when unchecking wifi calling ip message goes away. This ROM is great its fast and battery life is good would like to use this rom but wifi calling is important to me because and to many others if you find time in version 3 to make wifi calling work that would be great. Is there anything that we can do to make this service work something that needs to installed or modified? Where do we get this modified mms.apk when searching for this it only mentions modified mms.apk for AOSP ROM's? Will the AOSP modified mms.apk work on this ROM? Thank you so much for all you do and time to make ROM's.

[Q] Another wifi bug thread, I've tried everything possible.

Hi!
I know there are plenty of threads about the wifi on this phone, I've read every one of them, posted in many places and have had no good outcome.
Here is my (lengthy) story.
Had annoying wifi bugs on stock 4.1.2, seemingly general lack of interest from the phone in connecting to wifi, but would generally connect after a reboot of both modem+phone+ disabling PSM (even then, not always )
6 months on stock go by, thought flashing a custom rom would fix everything and all would be well again, so I flashed PA.
An even more annoying bug showed up,
Turn wifi on > doesn't automatically connect, so I manually go to the wifi settings page and try connecting.
Before trying to connect - Full signal.
While trying to connect - Goes down to one bar while connecting > fails > then goes back to full signal.
Does occasionally connect, but it's rare. Rebooting both phone and the modem does nothing at all, seems to have a mood of it's own.
It's not just my wifi, but wifi at college too, other devices connect to the same access point just fine.
What would fix this? Will pretty much try most things now,I tried flashing NEAK too.
I don't have a data plan either, so my phone is basically useless without wifi, I've resigned to using my laptop all the time.
Thank you for reading this so far, I'd be thankful for ANY advice.
TL;DR :- Annoying wfi bug, tried every 'solution' I've heard of, nothing worked, never buying a Samsung again :crying:
(Attached images of the phenomenon)
UPDATE:- Just like stock, it will only connect if I am a foot away from the router, irrespective of how much signal I have. Even if I have a full signal elsewhere, it won't connect

We meet again!
Like mentioned in the post, the only reason I flashed an aosp based ROM was in the desperate hope it'd rid the phone of its WiFi problem.
Thought a custom ROM would do what Samsung refuses to do.
Hope someone has a valid solution for this.

Anyone?
I forgot I already had the range issue for quite a while, even on stock.
I had tried everything, including static IP, wps, and whatever else was stated to work.
Does anyone know of a working solution to this? Is this a hardware/software issue?

[Q] Wonky 4G / LTE Speeds with any CM 10.1(2) based ROM

OK... get ready for this doozy.
Any TW ROMs, just fine on 4G, and I mean JUST fine on 4G (MC2 Radio). 4mbps and up (I've had 21 down and 7-12 up at one point in certain areas).
I noticed that 10.1 ROMs started giving me issues with LTE about a week and a half ago when I swapped out to a S4 (just for giggles, it was so painful... I'd rather let you guys kick me in the nuts for 2 straight hours than have to deal with that phone again). That phone was giving me 4G issues on 10.1/2 CM ROMs (100 kbps downs and 5000 ups) but again working well with TW.
At any rate, 3 days later I went back the the Note 2 and I was still having issues with LTE... clean wiped. I tried Rootbox, PA, CM 10.1, etc... LTE was again in the double digits with down and in the thousands with up.
Like I mentioned before, TW roms are just fine... solid numbers in both directions. I have assumed this is my issue, I am not registered on the Sprint Network for data when I am flashing a AOSP ROM. I have my profile updated along with my PRL while on TW (which shouldn't be much of an issue any ways). How can I get this to work without Dialer Codes working? I hate TW with my soul... literally hate. I don't think I've ever hated anything more... maybe fish sticks and butterflies but, it's a close third.
TIA!

So, youre not getting booted to a 2XXX prl when you flash to asop? A week ago that happend to me, i had a 2XXX prl and i had to go back to TW to change it, and that fixed my problem, im sitting inside a building as we speak running slimrom getting 12000Kbit down and 4200 Kbit up.

If I am understanding you correctly:
1) Flash TW (any ROM?)
2) Update PRL / Profile
3) Flash AOSP
3) Check PRL for it to not be 2xxx
4) Profit
I have tried this, but maybe I'll have to manually force a PRL while in AOSP...
Edit: Currently with my TW Rom, I am on PRL 2000 and getting decent LTE speeds (nothing in the 10mb range however).
Which PRL are you currently running with AOSP, because I now have 2000 with PA and sure enough, back to crap. I'll have to force a PRL in AOSP. Not the first time, maybe I'll use a special roaming one
EDIT: yeah, I'm going to go 56XXX but at anyrate, I'll report back once it gets fixed.
What is odd is this... 2000 will work LTE speeds with TW but not AOSP even though it is considered an Emergency PRL (or listed as such). Further more, it seems like service reps know nothing about it (upon further reading).
I appreciate your help but I will let people know since that isn't a common thing around these parts here...

My first attempt with a restore brought back the 2000 PRL

Yeah i had that problem before, i guess try a combination of different things, maby do a clean asop install after changing your prl, and turn off mobile data before you leave tw?

Yep, my next step was a clean install and a restore of apps (not really necessary because that's how I roll) via TB.
I have yet to find an AOSP ROM that I am truly in love with, although Rootbox came damn near close. It's just that Rick is pulled in so many directions that it's hard for him to keep up with that.
jd14771 said:
slimrom is damn near awesome. check that tihs out! prls are tough. it took me 2 days to get a prl other than the 2000 to stick. just keep trying different stuff you'll get it.

4.3 Build? It's pretty much what I'm looking for in the description and TV puts out quality builds.

yeah ive never had such a clean asop experience, dpi mod right out of the box, no force closes, gps, bluetooth and lte work flawlessly! couldn't ask for more.

Man with those 4.3 directions... Blink and you're dead... no wait, that's not right. Just odd, def not the same as other 4.3 builds.
As far as PRL... we... have...LIFTOFF!
I appreciate you helping me out.
So folks, to recap:
1) You should back up your AOSP with a Nandroid (this might not work later as previously stated in this thread).
2) Flash a TW Rom (I usually use the smallest one I can find, Pinky's is decent)
3) "Flash" whichever new PRL you want, not an update, you'll probably keep getting 2XXX, there is a thread in the GS3 forums on how to do that all.
5) Restore your nandroid (this is where it didn't work for me, so I had to basically start from scratch, real men do anyway).
6) Check to see if your PRL stuck!!! It might take a few go arounds.
7) Profit!
8) Did you notice step four was missing? Damn, I wonder if it was important...
Cheers to jd14771, Thanks again!
Sadly, this didn't remedy my issue. I wasn't able to test LTE right away due to my location and when I finally did... Blah. Same results... TW ROMs are on the money and AOSP are rubbish, regardless of PRL. 2000 TW runs with great speeds, so I'll gladly take any other suggestions.
I thought for sure that was the issue when I saw the SG3 PRL thread description too.

I have noticed it as well. When I was using TW, 4g speeds were really good. I reached 20mbps at times. With cm10.1, on 4G, I get around 4-5mbps.
Hopefully there is a way to fix this problem. I don't want to permanently go back to TW ever .
Also just wanted to add... The speeds have nothing to do with the prl...I'm using 56015.

You're getting 4-5mbps, I'm getting double digit kpbs... something is way wrong with mine.
Further oddity, XenonHD (AOSP based), works great (well better, I'll d field test on the way to work... however, last night I was getting 10mbps out front of my house).

[Q] ROM's, PRL updates and all that fun stuff

Hello all. I'm Trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong here. I lost my IMEI and all, did the stock ROM to get it all back (which was a 4.3), rooted it and then got rid of KNOX. I have flashed to various custom ROM's since then and continue to have the same problems, which are bad GPS locks (or no GPS locks and its using cell tower and wifi for a position) and loss of mobile data (no 4G or 3G, think it happens when I'm on 3G for extended amount of time or something). I've tried AOKP, Cyanogen, and other various AOSP ROM's, different modem's, and different kernels. From what I understand you can't do PRL updates on AOSP after 4.2, and to accomplish this you have to flash back to stock, do the PRL update, then restore your previous custom ROM from a backup. Anyone have any idea where a good tutorial or where some info I could use. Also I would like to get a better understanding of some other things, like why flashing the ROM does not change the modem, kernal, prl ect. for starters (writes to certain portions of the file structure, while leaving others alone?) I need to start understanding Linux and stop trying to relate it to a Microsoft O/S. Any help would be appreciated (even a really big flow chart). Thanks.

Personally I stopped using ASOP and AOPK roms, because you lose a lot of the key functions of what the phone was designed for mainly SPEN features... If you flash a TW rom and it has the sprint app, you can update prl and profile that way.. I personally us goodness 3.03 MC2 the last one that was made.. It comes with the prl write function, so you change your prl any time you want..
I'm starting to look into the MIUI ROM's out there. I want to keep some of the Samsung functionality (like screen mirroring), but I guess I want my cake and eat it too.

First I have heard of this.. Plus many users have stated the same thing.. So what is the reason behind the lousy sound with these roms, plus the unstable connection issue.. Two more reasons why I switched back to TW..Now the roms themselves look real nice, but somethings still need to be worked out before I would even consider trying them again..

People repeat the same wrong thing often enough, they start to believe it. About the only thing you can't do is the useless air command crap as of now.
Don't know about "unstable connection issues", just about any ROM data either works or it doesn't. Sound issues are often kernel related. Latest Plasma does wonders.

[Q] Network signal drop

Hello guys, first off I have an ATT S3 running the latest PA beta with quantum kernel.
Now my query, sometimes i have a strong signal and then it suddenly disappears, i mean from a strong signal to a no signal and it takes approximately 2 minutes to get it back again. My baseband is the latest anyways and i always have LTE on.
Btw even though i tried switching the signal mode it still doesn't work, any help would be appreciated thanks.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747
It has something to do with a LTE bug, many people have had it. I actually have it currently on my S3 with Quantum ROM.
From what I have found and read is that we have to go back to stock ROM, though it is "complicated" that it might brick our phones with an increased percentage... I am looking for guides on helping me go back to stock, but everything is so unorganized on here and many more experienced users don't like to help others who have problems. They just tell us what is needed without the aide that might help prevent a brick..
What I do know is that you need to go back to an old bootloader but you can't go back to an old bootloader..
I will be following this thread for some help, mine didn't get any help.
I have the same problem. Anyone have a fix?
I had the issue in the past. I fixed it by going back to stock with Odin. Some have said you can also fix by flashing a TW ROM. I have not tested it that way though.
Not sure but I believe going back to stock depends on which bootloader your on.
