Since everyone here is essentially on the same hardware and network, I want to know if anyone else is having the same issues I am.
I can not get the 1.fm app to work on the Sprint network (3G or 4G). It will only work if I am on a WiFi network.
I enjoy listening to Chillout Lounge, and I'd like to listen to the station in my car, but I keep getting a message saying "Internet Connection Lost.....Reconnecting".
I want to see if it's a problem with my phone, a problem with the sprint network, or maybe a problem with my modem firmware.
If anyone can get it to work, let me know what Modem you have.
Thanks.

Well considering the first 3 post on the download page talks about connection issue I doubt it is just you. How is your 3g and 4g connections? Do you have a problem with other streaming apps?

My 3G and 4G connections are quite good actually. I've even tethered my laptop through 4G and used RDP to connect to a remote machine and it seems quite stable. RDP can certainly have issues if the connection has issues.
But I've also seen issues when tying to use Rad.io. Which makes me think it's not just a software issue.

Okay what about like Pandora or Ihart or any of those? I could be a memory issue on your phone but I doubt it. It just might be how those apps work are written etc.

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the help, but have you taken a moment to load the app I mentioned? It would be a lot more helpful if someone can test this app on their phone.
I honestly don't care about Pandora. It's not the program that is giving me a problem. What I need is for someone to confirm they are having similar issues that I am having with the programs I am trying to run. I don't want to run a ton of tests on my phone before it is determined the issue is even in my phone.
Just to let you know, Pandora does seem to work, but I'm not trying to get that program to work.

I would if it wouldn't lead to more questions. My point is your phone and your connection seems to work fine with another app. So my diagnosis is a app issue not your phone or network

How on earth does that lead to more questions. You are seriously over-complicating a simple request. Download the app, try using it on the cell network, let me know the results. That's all I am asking for.
I'm just trying to collect information. You are doing everything except give me the information I am requesting. So if you aren't willing to help me by doing this simple task and give me the results, then please go away.
Thank you.

I'm sorry, sometimes the only way to get the message across to people is to just be blunt about it. I was just trying to get some information that he was refusing to provide.
He was making suggestions that were aimed at diagnosing my phone. Before I can take that step, I need to determine if the problem is even in my phone. For that, I need people to try the app on their phones. If the majority of people that test the app say it is working for them, then I can determine my next step and go from there.
I'm not asking for anyone to do anything that would harm their phone or have them invest more than a couple of minutes of effort. The reviews on the Play Store page do not provide the information I am looking for. They are just commenting that it doesn't work. I am trying to find commonality.
If you were cooking something and go up to another person and ask them if what you are cooking needed a little salt, and without even doing a taste test, they start asking if I used a lot of garlic or have the temperature set up to high, then they are not being helpful. And having to remind them that all you want is their opinion on the salt, and they still refuse to do a taste test, it gets a little annoying.

Thanks,
I just noticed something new when I tried to play that station
While at home, when I play a station, I get a little message saying "Lost Internet Connection....reconnecting" and it does try to reconnect, but just keeps looping the same error. Now that I'm at work, I get a new message saying "Internet Connection Error. Please try again later" and it stops trying to play anything.
This kinda leads me to thinking it might be an issue with the actual sprint network in my area. But I'd still like some more people to try it out to get a clearer picture.

Other streaming apps are NOT working. I already stated the Rad.io will not stream the same stations in post #3.
And those reviews don't have enough information to conclude it is a problem with the app. Only that it is not working for them. If I could talk to those people I would, but I can only talk to the people here, which is why I want to see if anyone else has the same problem. If I can find someone with the same problem, then we can go to the next step, which would be looking for the common elements (modem, rom, location, etc)
Knowing if the app works or not for other people is far more helpful for me. Through all this, have you even tried the app on your phone? Hell, you might even like the app because most of those stations play some really good stuff you don't normally hear on a typical radio station.

Trust me I understand what you are saying in post 5# you answered Pandora another streaming app is working. I know you don't want or care about Pandora it was to test if Sprint was the issue which appear to not be the case. And honestly at the time I was not in a position to d/l or test had crappy reception at where I was when I answered you the last time. And at home is bogus because I have a Airrave. I am at work now and d/l to test. To me reviews show a possible issue seeing one was like 2 days ago complaining about the same thing even some of the good comments suggest connection issues. (did have another review but after rereading it the user had other issues)
Testing right now got 5 or 6 bars 4g and same issue and I am in the bean. So I stand by what I said in post 7 (See screenshot)

GREAT!!** Nice variety of styles rangeing numerous channels w/crystal clarity! [**SOLE negative] I can/able to get internet access/connection ONLY via community TWC WiFi "hotspot" (@times: mobile network... barely!!) Thus, constant buffering / gaps occur. But, my connection limitation aside, 1.FM still allows for great listening!! {{ especially after phone's positioned for optimum reception }}

Thank you. That screenshot tells me a lot. I am assuming you are rooted, so I'm hoping someone who isn't rooted can try it (fat chance of that considering this is XDA, but I can hope).
And one of the issues with those reviews is there is almost no mention of what network they are running on, so I can't use them to determine if it's a problem with the program on certain networks.
The reason I didn't care for Pandora is because it doesn't work like the 1.fm program (or other internet radio station apps). Pandora can't tune into the broadcast stations I like to listen to.

I understand they don't work the same but streaming is streaming proves network is good (which is my only point). I know there is a lot of unknown with the reviews but it can be a indication that it isn't you.
And to answer your question yes I am on TPR a stockish ROM.

I seem to be having the same problem also.
Me too. On my Evo, when I switched to 2.2 I had this problem. The fix was to toggle wifi while trying to start a station. That fix doesn't work on the Epic. I think this is going to require feedback to the developer.

I heart radio not working for me either.
Do you have Tunein from Radio time. You should definitely check it out it has tons of stations search-able.
I'm thinking the developer has either coded it to only work on WiFi, or made a mistake in the application so it doesn't know how to use 3g or 4g networks to operate.
I use Slingbox and police scanner apps on 3g so I doubt it's an issue with the phone itself.
i had iheartradio connect to a station ONE time, ever on my epic. i've heard its a terrible app and clearchannel never fixes, updates it. and whats worse is a like a clearchannel station which cant be pulled up on tunein or other apps. bogus....
it doesnt work on wifi or 3g for me and nothing fixes. and i get stream podcasts on other apps while on 3g or wifi no problem, def the app.
I have it working WiFi only on an Epic. Strange...
My understanding is that this really an issue of a proxy server inserted by Sprint to filter our internet traffic. Instructions for removing the proxy server setting can be found in the "fix for skyfire" thread (my apologies for not posting the link)
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I actually found a work around on accident. I knew that it was wifi only. My other post was my suprise with the FC issues. Ill post the work around on my site tomorrow when I'm not on my Epic (which is flashed to Cricket).
So apparently sprint thinks this is the iphone and we want our traffic filtered and/or proxied. This causes skyfire not to work with its flash video feature (and possibly other video/streaming apps, like a radio app I tried). But you can fix it and here's how (credit goes to sdx thread for the moment, will try and post link when back at pc):
##3282#
Multimedia
Input your msl (find it using adb command getprop, look for msl in readout)
Change rtsp proxy to 0.0.0.0 and rtsp proxy port to 0
Enjoy your unfiltered traffic!

awesome thank you!
iheartradio is kind of sucking on both wifi and 3g. Happens with both the Epic and Droid X. Pandora runs very smoothly though. This leads me to believe that this app isn't that good. Anyone else experience this?
If you apply the fix referenced in this thread, from the skyfire thread, it makes it work, but ya the app itself is kinda crappy, mine buffers every few min even on solid 3g

So myself and the wife are at Applebee's. She gets on WiFi no issues and I can't. See below screen shots. I even rebooted my device to no avail. Mine was always unstable and would drop. Hers was solid see.pics below. Mines the N900T and hers is the N900A. Both using Att sim cards.

You can see the 5Ghz version of the AP in the list as well.
You might have to go back to factory rom, or turn your wifi off and disable always scanning. It may be trying to find a better network.

Unfortunately, i think its just the hardware. Your phone might have two antennas and if you find your correct kernel, you could change it to run off the best antenna possible. might take some testing and such. if all else fails go to your service provider for a evaluation

Yes, correct. Once after connecfting to the Wifi Router I need to launch the stock Samsung browser to accept their terms and conditions, this process in itself takes about 5 mins or hangs proir to terms and conditions screen it boots me off the WiFi and says its unstable or too slow per my original post.
Its just that theres too many people on the network, Thats the only issue. It mainly does this on public networks. So it is not a phone problem its a client network problem
I had this briefly on my home WiFi. Wasnt a client network as I allow 10 objects to be on mine. Its water under the bridge but that is a possibility on a public network.
sent from my sm-9005.
I had this problem in spades.
It has nothing to do with a public hotspot or router.
I'm not entirely sure it's not on some type of pattern yet, like 7 or 8 days.
I'll bet you that if you had powered off your phone for a few minutes and turned it back on, the problem would have been gone.
I am pretty sure this is something going on with the Radios in these phones.
Everytime mine gets flaky it usually resolves with a power down for a few minutes.
The other problem I've seen is that if I shut down wifi a number of times in a row because I want to use Mobile data, it will then start not staying connected when I want to use it.
I have to power off and power on and re enter the WPA2 password.
After seeing another thread with some other strange issues, I'm convinced there is a HW or SW issue related to the wifi radio.
I have seen the message exactly like you have here on a AP at my house that only has 2 clients on it and performs flawlessly.
It wouldn't connect to attwifi at Sam's yesterday for some reason.
This is one of the reasons I won't ROM it yet either. I'm still not convinced that it might not go home to the mothership at some point.
I would like to know if I can have WiFi and Mobile Data on at the same time. I do not get MMS messages til I get off WiFi and also I can't get on my T-Mobile App to check minutes and data. It Keeps saying "Sorry, no data connection is available" I looked in my settings and said Mobile Data is disconnected.... Is this normal? Thanks In Advance.

Hmm... to be fair sometimes a lack of response is more a lack of confidence in any particular response that might be given. At times repercussions get ...awkward... for saying things that others might find ill informed, and as such a tendency to not say anything unless rather certain on the answer develops.
Anyhoo - I hadn't noticed the fact that the mobile network state listed itself as disconnected when connected to wifi... but ultimately (opens self up to possibly saying something stupid...) I can think of no good reason certain functions of the phone (at least mms or the tmobile app) would depend on mobile data being connected while wifi disconnected. Doing a quick test on my end - both of these functions seem to be behaving as expected while on wifi (tested with wifi calling NOT on, not sure that would throw a wrench in anything but you never know) - does the issue exist across wifi sources? That sort of thing might be something to bring up to a TMo service rep - not sure they will be of any help but given the response you've had here it couldn't be much worse, right?

Thank you for your response. I finally called Tmobile and they told me that their apps will only work on mobile data and are not meant to work over wifi even though they say my mobile data will always be on it just goes into a low power state and that MMS has to be set to auto receive which somehow was not checked. Everything seems to work fine. Just one question for you. Did i read that you said you could get on your tmobile account app with WiFi on? Again thank you very much for answering me back. Just was have a bad morning because i get alot of MMS messages for work and it got to me... Also I'm one of those guys that no believe in a stupid answer. I was able to, but perhaps it was just a trick of app cache as opposed to it actually working... strange they require data, you'd think if it was that much of a need they'd force it to engage and wake up the low power state instead of forcing you to turn off wifi. Ah well, learn something new everyday Sorry I wasn't more help

Thank you for your response. I finally called Tmobile and they told me that their apps will only work on mobile data and are not meant to work over wifi even though they say my mobile data will always be on it just goes into a low power state and that MMS has to be set to auto receive which somehow was not checked. We have given our young daughters Galaxy S ll’s. Our cell provider is kajeet.com which has decent parental controls on phone usage including Internet access via the cell connection. But kajeet doesn’t affect the wifi connection. Hence, Internet access is available.
We would like to shut down the wifi and have the phones used only for texting and talk. The girls have other forms of (monitored) Internet access.
Does anyone have a solution for shutting down the wifi connection?
I have done quite a bit of research on the web for an answer and haven’t come up with anything that is largely within our control.
Thank you in advance for your help.

First up, what model phone are we talking about (sticker on the phone chassis under the battery) ? Reason I ask is, I noticed Kajeet uses Sprint, which means there's a good chance you're in the wrong forum. As the I9100 wasn't sold in great numbers in the US, various carriers have their own variants, which have their own forums here.
I honestly doubt you can do it (I'm not aware of any way to block access outright), you can probably use one of the myriad security apps on Google Play to block WiFi access to individual apps (I.E all of them). But that might be different for different SGS2 variants (being an I9100 forum, I only know this for the I9100).
If you do have a different variant, we'll have the thread moved & maybe those who have the same phone might be able to tell you something different.
Months ago on cm10.1 i had managed to completely disable wifi by accident on numerous occasions by flashing old versions of dorimanx kernels that update the wifi drivers, then flash stock cm kernel again that uses old drivers, couldn't turn wifi on or off until I reflashed cm, so it is indeed possible. Not sure how you'd go about this. Maybe remove wifi drivers from rom if you are rooted? Sorry I'm not much help, just thought I'd share this.

my opinion, disableing wifi from a young kid will not stop him to access internet from any other place instead it will make him search and found more just because he dont have easy access to information he want. soo this is not the right thing to do but start takling to him and understanding his
needs will do more good. But this is just my opinion it seems thees days there are too many ways to find out things and there is noone who can shut them all off. Cheers!!

It does look like I belong on a different forum.

You are correct. My phone is a SPH-0710. Can you please port me over to where I am supposed to be?
Thank you for your help. This has been a frustrating experience, and it is reassuring to have someone take it seriously. I appreciate your taking your time to head me in the right direction.

I'm a Moto Atrix 4G and HD user. I know from development on the 4G, we could disable the wifi by not installing certain packages or flashing a kernel without the required lib/module files. I'm in the middle of fixing a friend's S2/Epic 4G touch and I saw this thread. I would think that something similar would be available here, but i am just starting out with this process of helping my friend out so I'm not sure what files really affect the wifi. I'm sure you could root the device and delete the files that enable wifi access, but I'd have to do some digging for that before i advise any further.
It appears that my wifi is very unstable. After transfering around 250mb, my connection stops working. Usually the connection requires me to cycle wifi in order to get it working once more.
I initialy thought that the issue could be fixed in the tmobile software update, but that was not the case. The issue persists after the update that took place last night.
Are any of you experiancing this? Any thoughts on how to resolve? I have setup a warranty replacement but id rather just send that back and keep my already setup device.

Same issues here on AT&T.

well i guess my search skills are lacking compared to yours. There is 1 post that is in the troubleshooting section that is titled with a [fix] tag. but that is not really a fix. it is simply a workaround by not using the 5ghz band. this makes it so that i cannot use my ac connection.
but since you are so much more in the know and your search skills are far better than mine. can you please point me to the threads about this issue?

I don't need to do your searching for you. You maybe saw one Thread on the FIRST page, but there's pages and pages between General and Questions about this.

i suggest you stop assuming anything and search yourself. Also stop being a ****, its unnecessary. But i am sure it helps you feel so much more knowledgeable and better to post a "lrn 2 search" reply.
my guess is that you seen wifi blah blah blah and were like "this is the same as wifi calling not working or wifi turning off after the screen turns off" or some other basic issue.
but hey you know, here is a great search http://bfy.tw/J57

I don't need to search myself, I'm not creating the thread.
Doesn't make me feel good at all. It's rule number ONE in the forum rules. GUESS what rule 2.1 is? Language.

I've been having the same issue. It seems to be primarily in the 5ghz band. One suggestion I saw that seems to have helped is doing a factory reset.

Another thread mentioned FRs don't fix some issues and I have issues on 2.4 so it seems different for all.

I don't see how this thread is redundant, there's no need to police the forums.
OP's issue is something I've had - a factory reset, TheClefSLC, seemed to do something productive, though I still get drops when data is being transferred on a moderately large scale. As of now I think we'll have to either wait for a software/firmware update or, once the device is unlocked, experiment with ROM modifications...

I'm returning mine tomorrow.. this is unacceptable. Wifi just stops working.
I have 5ghz off on my router, so it is doing it on 2.4 too.
Try changing the channel on the router. I had about 8-10 instances over 24 hours where the phone just stopped transmitting data with the router. I had to toggle Wi-Fi to fix it. I changed the channel on my router and haven't had an issue in 48 hours or so now. Seems to have worked.
Yes... I noticed this since day one and everyone thought I was crazy... I did make a post b4 about this but it was chalked up to i need to reset my router but my nexus 5 works awesome on the same network

I think that this may just be the fix to our WiFi problems. I put my 2.4Ghz on channel 6 and my 5Ghz on 40. Seems to have done the trick, and my speeds seem faster on the 5Ghz on channel 40. well see how it goes over the next few days.

The problem is when you try to access networks you don't own. [emoji29] but hopefully there'll be a solution!

True that.. Hopefully we get a patch soon or root and a custom ROM that fixes this!!

YES! Just changed to channel 6 (what someone else said) and it's been much better for me!

Well, it seems to put a band aid on the problem. It works fine for a little while, maybe a few hours. But after that the problems return. At least they did for me
I just tried the 2.4:6/5:40 setting with my Asus RT-AC68U. 2.4 ran a bit faster according to the Speedtest app, but 5 ran at pretty much the same speed (both were set to auto channel select beforehand). I am going to tinker around with it some more and see if I can improve upon it.
I have noticed the same issue on both 2.5 and 5ghz. I stream music thru chromecast and frequently experience lost connections. Very annoying. I hope this is an issue that is addressed soon in an update.
