No signal or data but working 4g - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Last night i disassembled my E4GT because my power button was sticky. Ive done this quite a few times so its not i dont know what im doing. After pulling out the button and cleaning it. I reassembled the phone and have no service. It goes in and out of roaming with no bars whatsoever. Also loses all network all together by showing the cicle with a line through it. I do have working 4g as im sending this message using the device. Gps works and i cant test wifi as i dont have it. Im probably going to go to my sprint tepair center but just curious if anyone could provide some feedback.
Edit. I can get a signal roaming but will not connect to sprint network. Also updated prl from a custom corporate prl. But cannot update profile

Sounds like your antenna isn't making a clean connection with the motherboard. You will need to disassemble it again to check that. Hopefully the leaf springs that make that contact are not damaged.

Thank you for your reply. I disassembled it and nothing appears to be damaged. I carefully pryed up the leaf springs cleaned the connections and reassembled with the same results. Luckily i have insurance and am still.under warranty.

Thanks. I'm sure you know but was just checking to make sure everything was as it should be. (The smallest things get over looked and all)
On the bright side, I had my phone replaced last week and they didn't lie when they said it was over nighted. Got it quick. I hope you have the same experience with them.

Went to the sprint store today they said it got wet. I have no idea how this happened. There was a dried up water drop around the connectors. So I fuess I have to make an insurance claim. This is my fifth E4GT I have had in 8 months 2 where insurance claims this is getting pretty old. Thanks for the help it is appreciated.

Sauna bad for the Evo?

Is da Sauna bad for the EVO? Just curious if its safe to use in the sauna after working out.
Thanks ahead of time
Probably wouldn't do that ... what with all the ... you know ... humidity?
Ya...was thinking the same thing. But sucks ...would love to show case the Evo --- the phone that can withstand heat. Lol

I would not do that without protection. Are you wanting to be able to talk on the phone? or just txt, email, etc? I bought a waterproof case that would protect the phone from the moisture damage and allows the touchscreen to be used.

Huh ...interesting. Just wanted to use it music and playing games. Today, I sat in there for about 15 mins and the temp (SetCPU) didn't get higher than 130 F.
Moisture ... humidity ...
That's what you'd probably want to worry about the most.
Good look on that link though, above.

NOT A BULL**** STORY
A friend of mine was in the shower, when AT&T called him. He answered and keep on bathing. The rep even ask him, sir are you in the shower, he said yea, she said do you want me to call you back later, he said no. She then told him how it was bad to take it into the bathroom at shower time, more less shower with it. Funniest part she was calling to sell him a something. It was an iphone, and it no longer works. Moral, i would not take it in the sauna, the moisture alone is gonna kill it.

The case is pretty bulky but works well. I bought it to use when I go biking, camping, etc to protect the phone. I bought it at Eastern Mountain Sports... tried out the phone in the case in store before buying and was happy to see that the touchscreen worked great. If you needed to talk you could use a cheap bluetooth headset.

I experienced it today for about a minute and, it was just a yellow tint over the screen. My screen went back to normal after a minute or so. So the question is has this ever happened to any of you guys???

This. I used to have an E4GT and then I got the YSOD and 5 minutes later my phone exploded, shrapnel flying everywhere. Still have a piece of the screen lodged in my groin, doctors said they can't take it out because the risk of losing my junk was too high. Was going to replace it but honestly, it's not worth the risk. Decided to play it safe and got an iPhone 4S instead.
Be careful OP, the YSOD is serious sh*t.

A yellow tint over the screen can be two things. Either your ribbon cable connecting your screen to the board is loose or damaged (new screen will fix the problem) or the GPU on your board was overheating (whole new phone if it burns up). Are you running any custom ROMs? What were you doing when it happened? Have you dropped your phone?

It happened about 20 mins. after using odin to go to stock ek02 I was reading an article in wikipedia and all of a sudden everything had a yellow tint I thought it might just be the site but, then I found it was the entire phone screen. I wasn't doing anything that could have overloaded the gpu and, I haven't dropped my phone at all. After a quick google search I found that it could be a software problem since some other people have also had this problem but, it could also be a defect with the screen.... If you have any ideas please let me know.

Horrible signal in a good signal area

OK so for the past few months my signal had been getting worse and worse. Areas that I use to get full signal in I only get like a bar or two. I had a friend with a stock dinc 2 pulling full signal and I was only getting a bar. Any idea as to what my problem could be?
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA
I don't have a cure but I have been noticing more and more signal loss as well as 1x. Also, data seems to crawl even with full or almost full bars.
Tempted to call Verizon.
Fried has a DINC2 and says his data is slow too most of the time.
Are you running stock rom?
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA
Yep, sounds like a radio issue, although the degrading over time thing actually sounds more like a failing antenna.
Flash another radio, or return to stock, and see how you get on
I'm on the 1111 radio. Should I flash 720?
The bottom of my back cover is all banged up. Would that have anything to do with it?

Have you got another back-cover somewhere, even one you could borrow? Here is a shot of my rear cover (I have a DInc2, also). There are two sets of contactors for what I assume are the cellular and WiFi antennas.

If the bottom contacts link to the cellular antenna, it is entirely probable that the belted-up back cover has compromised the antenna (usually a very thin, conductive 'sheet' attached to the plastic). This would explain the degrading over time.
I'd try flashing another radio first, then start the hunt for a battery cover if no dice
Had this problem before with my extended battery/cover. If you look closely @ the copper lines on the inside of the back cover and can see little cracks, this is what is causing the signal loss. I put a different cover on and my signal returned to normal. Still thinking about a way to restore the other cover so I can use my extended battery again I thought about using a thin coating of CPU thermal paste to repair the connection but haven't tried yet...

Thx guys ill give it a try and let you know

Tried a new back cover. Didn't seem to help much. I'll try the radio next
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA
Another suggestion I received when I had the problem before was to(very carefully and slightly) bend the pins on the phone out so they contact the back cover more solidly. Also check the pins and copper paint on the cover for cleanliness and clean with a very small amount of rubbing alcohol and a q-tip.
OK signal didn't change with the 722 radio but I had no data. I really think it is the back cover because I believe the antenna is showing on the outside

Well I tried pretty much everything. I guess my only option is to get a new phone.

[Q] Need advice on replacement

Morning all!!
I need your advice on getting my 4G Touch replaced. My wife and I purchased both our E4GT on December of last year and it looks like mine needs repair or replaced. We did not opt for the insurance which is my issue.
My accelerometer is not functioning correctly so it can no longer tell how I'm holding it anymore and rotates any way it feels like. I have disabled screen rotation, but that doesn't help with the camera app. Most of the time it takes pictures sideways or upside down. I know it's not a software issue as I have run multiple roms and even set it back to a factory rom (unrooted) and still does this.
I have a couple of months left on the one year warranty, but I cannot send it in for repair as, like most folks, I need this phone every day and can't go without it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!!
Take it to a local Sprint repair center if its able to be repaired they usually get it done in several hours and if it needs to be replaced they order a new one and give your phone back until it arrives. They may charge you $39 though
I assume you have tried a sensor calibration?

Make sure you unroot before taking it in. If they have to replace it its $35 granted that there is no liquid damage or corrosion in the charging port.

Yeah for sure. ATT brought that to my attention REAL FAST when I messed up my last phone. But wouldn't that be a warranty issue?
Just wondering, why can you not send it in for warranty repair if you still have a couple months left?

It's not that I can't, it's just that my wife and I are looking to buy a house right now. My realtor is calling/texting me sometimes 3 or 4 times a day about seeing a home. In this market, you have to be fast to view one or it might go pending before I get a chance to look and make an offer.
My wife has choose not to deal directly with our realtor and that leaves me as the point-of-contact....go figure!!
I have unrooted and odin'd a stock rom and have an appointment at noon today with my local repair center. I will let ya know how that went. I know there is no water damage as I take very good care of my phone, so it shouldn't be an issue with the warranty.
I read somewhere that the e4gt has water damage stickers inside in other words if they try to say it haz water damage u can tell by those stickers they have insida.

How did you claim it with warranty? And how long did it take? I have a note 2 as well, I replaced the glass. It was perfectly fine before I replaced it. All that was broken was the glass. And once I turned it in on became hazy I can still see but it's really annoying not having good clarity. Any help would be awesome. I posted a few pictures of what the screen looks like at start up.

Ensurion
If everyone is paying the $7.99 a month for the ensurion insurance, they cover loss. You have to pay $50 to get a new/refurbished device. But $50 is still cheaper than replacement cost. In lamens terms take what you want off of your device chuck it and claim a loss.
