LinuxDeploy and distros - Nexus 7 Themes and Apps

Anyone using this. I am using this and jump, pretty awesome to have Linux on my nexuys 7. Anyone get CentOs to work. Also, all the other distros seem laggy but Debian (maybe not arch Linux too). Am I missing something?

I setup Cygwin inside my Win7 x64 Lenovo T420, worked great for playing with my Flyer ROM and learning how things work as far as ROMs go.
Read this, there's a great PDF that explains it complete with pictures:

(Q) Remote shutdown

Hi,
Do you know any easy and fast way to shutdown a PC remotely using our Android phone?
I can turn it on remotely using Wake On LAN app.
But I cannot find a simple way to shutdown.
Thanks

If you have Linux or OSX you can connect to the pc through ssh and give a "sudo halt". To do that you can use ConnectBot.
If you have windows it's more complicated.
EDIT: With windows try Phone My PC
Exactly, use a shell (I use connectbot) to ssh for Linux or Mac, for Windows I use Remote RDP Lite.
Both work like a charm on your Galaxy Nexus.
I use vnc and I can shutdown using that.

Winows 8 on your Tablet (Jump Desktop)

Jump Desktop looks very promising for a Windows 8 remote desktop. It will allow for you to essentially use the Metro UI from your desktop as if it were installed on your tablet.
Jump Desktop is not updated for Android just yet, but it is coming soon.
Obviously this it running on iOS but it definitely looks promising.
Very cool. Hope it comes soon.

should be here shortly with all the amazing people here at xda!!
Jump Desktop is working on Android...I'm using it on my Nexus 7 and my Sony VAIO laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium.
Works a treat with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse connected to the Nexus
I'm am also just trying Pocketcloud instead.... Jump Desktop is slightly laggy...but it might be my connection....
Is this better than Splashtop 2?
It need to come ?

I have Jump Desktop and it's not very usable. It refreshes every 5 seconds which is too slow.
I'm a firm believer in Jump Desktop. I use remote desktop often and this is the best I've found. Really designed for tablets in mind.

Jump Desktop 4.0 is currently what is in the app store 5.0 will be the nice update seen in the video.
The 5.0 update adds touch support for Win8. You can essentially use the start menu as if it were Windows RT on the tablet rather than fussing with an annoying mouse cursor on a touch screen.
I haven't seen other remote desktops going that route. It is a new feature for W8 to be able to do this so the others may implement this later as well.
Jump Desktop has just been updated to version 5.0 with full Windows 8 support. I'm using it as we speak.....
going to test this it sounds awesome...

Just bought it and installed. Hands down best rdp app out there! The best thing is that it is not a CPU hog on the PC. Splashtop would max out my old dual core but this program runs at like 40% anyone know why?

Is there any way of running a small virtual machine (150MB Debian .iso web server, just boot it and it will run in background in console mode) in Android?

Thanks but that's not exactly what I need. I want to boot/run that .iso from/in the phone like a virtual machine.

Java on galaxy note 8?

So recently ive been trying to visit Keepvid.com on my tablet, only get the following message:
" Java is not installed or has been disabled. Get Java here:*http://keepvid.com/java*and enable it in your browsers plugins if necessary."
I have adobe flash installed which I thought would cover these internet features, but apparently my understanding of java and flash are completely off.
My question is:
How can I view java content on my Galaxy Note 8.0?
I use "Internet", "Chrome", and "Firefox".

Remote desktop such as VNC, Splashtop, Chrome Remote Desktop, etc.
It is possible to do Java _software_ on Android in a chroot. A debian chroot for ARM supports a fairly full JDK. But Android web browsers DO NOT support Java....and very likely never will.

yes it is possible to run java jdk in chroot and it even runs well on newer devices. See link for scripts to run and readme for full instructions;

Welcome
Just got JDK hard float install script tested too; so both forms of Linux are supported to install Java's JDK.
We can now run full Java on devices over six years old!
I'm using LilDebi app for Hard Float and Debian Kit app for Soft Float Linux testing.
